Lousy experience all around. We met up with a group for dinner here. Problems right from the start. The breadbasket had burnt rolls. Next the soup was cold! A most serious offense to a Jew. Then my wife's lemon sole which really was tilapia, was cooked to hell. So dried out you couldn't cut it with a fork. We sent it back! Sides of veggies were old and cold. Mashed potato looked like a tub of wall spackle. Thought it was best I didn't try it. My moussaka was average at best and they gave me enough of it to have leftovers into next week. Desserts were not much to get excited about either Chocolate Mousse & Cheesecake were cafeteria quality. We would not return. read more

I brought my mom her for a late afternoon meal. The waiter barely spoke English. We he brought our food, he knocked over a full glass of water in my lap. My pants were drenched. He never apologized. He handed me a few napkins and wiped the table. I had to call him back to mop the floor. He handed me the full bill. I called over the manager and he looked at my pants and said that is nothing. I have been going to the Embassy Diner for years and years. Super convenient because of its location on Hempstead Turnpike right before the Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway. It's open 24 hours, which is great when you're in need of your midnight snack. It's a diner, and you really get what you expect there... burgers, fries, breakfast food, some decent dinner dishes, etc. The Manhattan clam chowder is excellent (if you're a fan of the red chowder), and their coleslaw is addicting. Stay away from the desserts as they can be sitting in their display cases for ever... And a lot of the time they are stale. If you are in need of something sweet, I would stick to the ice cream. The best waiter they have there by far is John. He's been at the Embassy diner for as long as I can remember. Started as a busboy and worked his way up into serving and sometimes being the host. I would ask to be seated in his section if you can. Bobby the waiter used to be great, however over the past year, he's really developed into a waiter that's not really caring. One thing that you would want to do is avoid sitting in the back room when it's closest to their shift changes (a lot of the time around 9:00 PM-ish). If they seat you there during this period of time, good luck with ever getting served... and once you're finished, good luck with getting a check. During shift changes, I would always recommend asking to be seated in the front section. Why do I think the embassy diner is only three stars?? Because the management (I think that they are the owners / men at work behind the counter / hang around there all day) definitely take for granted that you're special and that you are a paying customer. Much of the time it feels like you are doing them a favor in coming to their diner. When you go up to pay the check, you mind as well profusely thank them for serving you, rather than them just squeaking out something like, "how was your meal" and "thank you". It just feels like you are a bother and a hassle rather then an important customer. I guess they can get away with it because they are constantly packed and busy. One of the guys even drops the lose change on the counter, rather than putting it in your hand. However, there is one fellow behind the counter that always says "have a beautiful night" after he hands you your change, so I do appreciate that. Just to give an example of how the management could care less about your experience.... There was a night that it was pouring out, and we were sitting in a booth in the front section. There was a leak coming through the ceiling / window area, and it was dripping all over our table. When we went up to the front counter to ask the guy if we could move seats because of the leak, his exact response was, "just get an umbrella".... And then he walked away. Now mind to you, I've been going here for years and years, and he knows exactly who I am. For second I thought he was joking, but I soon realized he was not. So the moral of the story is that the Embassy Diner is super convenient, decent diner food, diner type atmosphere, and open 24 hours. Other than that, not so great. read more

Our family used to enjoy weekend breakfast there. We got to know Edgar and requested him to be our waiter whenever we were there. Fast service and the food came out as ordered. Anyway, we don't plan on returning. The greedy owner(s) decided to attach a 3% service charge on credit card payments. How greedy can a restaurant get? A group of friends and I were looking for an open diner after an event we were at just ended (around 1am). It's hard to find something open so late in an area we're unfamiliar with as we're out of town but we had found the Embassy and gave it shot. I'll give a little run through why not only were we as a group, upset, but why myself feel the need to give this place one star. At first everything seemed fine, we were served immediately upon sitting down, given water, the usual. After our friends ordered a few of us received salads with our meals which wasn't terrible. During our meal a pretty nicely sized spider was found hanging, chillin, right above our friends head! At least it wasn't in our food... Now for the food, one of my friends was given scrambled eggs when he ordered an omelet. And for myself, I ordered chicken parm. with "potato and vegetables", but I only got a potato (baked) which was cold! The chicken parm itself was hard and didn't taste fresh. I understand it's late night, but if they aren't going to provide fresh food then don't keep it on the menu! The service itself was sub-par aside from the fact that the wait staff doesn't speak English well and there were some discrepancies there. There is no electronic ticketing system so as the waitress gave us our bill it was hard to decipher anyway but the bill came to $194, which caught my friends off-guard. We had 8 people at the table, only a couple of us ordered as a whole over $20 each, the rest were meals under $10 with no drinks. We called the waitress over and said that the bill seemed a bit high and she was very adamant that it was correct as she added it up twice. My friend decides to add up the bill himself and finds that it was at least $50 less ($127) than what was on there (all pre-tax). The waitress takes it and says she'll add it up again and gets a number even lower than what our friends added up ($99). She goes and confirms it with the front cashier that it is $99 and with tax $107. She apologizes at least, but not before all the headache we had gone through with the bill itself. All in all it, if we're ever in the area again we don't plan on going back. read more

Absolutely terrible. I ordered a pastrami wrap to go. Little did I know it was only dry pastrami meat inside a tortilla wrap. No lettuce no tomato nothing but the meat. They handed out mustard packets that probably have been there for years. The mustard was like a paste. I came in disgruntled looking to get my money back. only to meet the manager who argued with me and refused to give me any of the money. Stay far away from this place. it was years since i ate at this diner . mainly because of the the high prices ( high for a diner ) . this summer my dad was in the hospital across the street so we went there for breakfast as well as dinner being it is convenient . it was a difficult pushing my dad up the wheelchair ramp then you have to press the buzzer and stand outside until a waiter opens the back door. once in its a nice but crowded place most of the time . its a popular resturant . i found the service to be slow and not good . its become common that resturants dont ask if you want a second cup of coffee . i ordered 3 pancakes with coffee and juice for $ 5.99 . the pancakes are good and the coffee was ok . the pineapple juice im sorry i tired it . it was warm and just bad but ordered it because it came with the breakfast special. my dad had a cheese omelete and he liked it but didnt like the under cooked potatoes. i dont remember how much it was . i also tried the veggie burger for dinner which was good , fries , onion rings and coleslaw were also good they gave us a lot of food . my sister ordered a greek soulvaki platter and my uncle had a fish dinner . everyone liked what they had . i will go back there again . read more

Sad excuse for diner. Went with a party of 7 at 10:30 PM on a Friday night. They weren't packed to the gills. We has people order dinner, some just dessert. Why serve a ice cream shake so quick that it was finished before the meals were served? I ordered a cappuccino that came AFTER everyone got their dinner. It was ice cold. Asked for a replacement. It was cold too. I mean that I could sink my fingers into it. It was warm at the bottom. I sent it back. Was it too hard to put some ice into the water glasses instead of serving warm water. I was in the area on a business trip and didn't want to eat at a chain restaurant so i picked the Embassy Diner. I was a little early for the dinner rush and was seated right away. My server was very prompt and courteous. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger platter which came really fast. It was way more than I could finish and was cooked perfectly (medium). I took a piece of coconut custard pie to go and it turned out to be ok. The next night I found myself in the area again and went back. This time I ordered the french toast with sausage. The french toast was great but the sausage was a little over cooked. It was still more than I could finish however. I had coffee with the meal which was really good tasting and hot. I work just up the road from Embassy. As a result, there are many times when I want to get out of the office and read the paper. I'll go over to Embassy, grab a table, and order some traditional diner fare. I've had the tuna melt several times. Omelettes several times. I've tried some specials, from fish to meatloaf. The bottom line is this: at lunch, which is a busy time for them, the kitchen is slow, the wait staff is not particularly friendly or diligent (I frequently have to flag people down and ask for my waiter just to place an order), and the food is passable. I've never had anything I thought was spoiled or bad. None of the dishes have ever been particularly enjoyable either. I'm repeatedly surprised at the pricing. A tuna melt with fries and a coffee ends up running me $13. To me, that's an $8 or $9 meal in a diner. If you end up with dinner fare, you won't get out under $25 a person. Given the quality of the food, that's just way too much. As an earlier reviewer pointed out, there is some shadiness to how the servers tally food. I've had some waiters give me fries with my sandwich. Other's say it's an extra charge. I can order the exact same thing two separate days and get a different total. I eat here on occasion b/c it's close and convenient, and I can't imagine any other reason to do so. read more

Went in for a quick Sunday Lunch. Waitress was terrible. She wouldn't even stand in the center of our booth, she stood behind my seat asking what we wanted and couldn't hear me. Maybe if she stood in between me and my girlfriend she could hear instead of behind me. Then I wanted a simple request for a wrap which was apparently extremely complicated to just write down. She's huffing and puffing like I'm asking her to make me a 24k gold turkey sandwich with spices from all around the world. I literally just wanted rice chicken and mozzarella cheese, but her dismissive attitude rubbed me the wrong way and I just said forget it I'll find something else. I ended up just leaving without ordering because I don't want to give a place my business if they cant offer common courtesy. Your only job is to write an order down and give it to the cooks...it's very simple. I understand people are annoying, and ask for crazy things and are picky...but that's what you deal with in the service industry. My request was far from outlandish, and I approached it calmly in a joking manner because I understand how picky people can come across. To be perfectly honest the best thing about this diner is the fact that they're open 24-hours a day. I usually order the same thing (French Onion soup - which is pretty good), but the times I have ordered anything different, mostly breakfast items such as an omelet, I have regretted it. Besides the food being mediocre, the service is subpar as well. If you do happen to get a server who actually knows the menu and different options, often times they look miserable and don't even try to be welcoming. I've always loved their food, the fact that they serve breakfast at all hours (chow down across the street does not,) and that they keep their establishment clean and never close... but the 4 words that will having me steer clear: NO TIPPING ON CREDIT. The chocolate cigar was delicious- sort of a combination of a baklava and chocolate pastry! When life hands you lemons, don't make lemonade- order the lemon merengue pie! Best dessert on the menu! Met some friends at this diner for dessert/late night meal. The first person in our party ordered a malted milk shake and was told that they don't have it. The next person ordered jalapeño poppers which also, they were out of. I ordered a root beer float my favorite classic diner item which of course they don't have (it's on their menu). Had breakfast, asked for well done bacon and well done home fries. Bacon came out under cooked and home fires just white potatoes. Gave the meal back and bacon came back cooked in a fryer. Was told could not do anything about the home fries. What an answer from a diner that is supposed to give the customer what they want. I will not return there. read more

I came here after working all night and just wanted a grilled chicken panini with mozzarella and nothing on it and the guy told me I had to order a panini how it was, I waited 30 min just to get a water, and another 25 min for just a cheeseburger that was cooked well done when I asked for it medium. I would of sent it back but didn't want to wait another hour.And the wait staff just kept staring at me giving me no service. I have never had this bad of service and rude service, I wouldn't ever recommend this place and if I could I would give it zero stars. I have to say I am very disgusted by this place I went to this place after work with my friends thinking we could get a quick bite to eat. First the lady who usually works behind the register set us up at the table where we sat for a half hour before given any water then we waited another hour to receive our food. Made the mistake of coming here after a movie for a quick bite - hostess was too busy on her phone to be bothered to seat us. When she finally noticed us she took our menus to a booth, tossed them on the table and said you can sit here. The seats in our booth were not wiped down as there were crumbs on both seats. Our waiter was more than polite (no complaints about him). Food was sub-par. 2 orders of BLT deluxe on toasted rye were just meh. French fries were overcooked while the bacon was undercooked. Tomato and lettuce were good! Bottom slice of bread was not toasted. Cole slaw was good at least. Witnessed a party come in to sit down and because the hostess was too busy to notice them the waiter helping us went to seat them. I will definitely not be returning. read more
