Great breakfast on a Monday morning. Not too busy, staff were friendly, and food came out quickly. Lydia took good care of us and we enjoyed the 80s music playing overhead. The TVs had on sports and news. Location is accessible but there are 2 doors to pull open to get to the gender-specific bathrooms - could be difficult for someone in a wheelchair or with a walker. The desserts looked great in the case but they are not house-made, but might be made somewhere locally, hostess was not sure. Lots of "order by number" choices on the first page of the menu - hubby had #2 and I had #13. Lydia let me sub a pancake for the toast and home fries which was a good choice. The pancake came with butter and warm syrup. My coffee was hot & the omelette was delicious but looked more like a scramble on the plate. Hubby liked his meal too. We would definitely stop back when in the area.

This is always my go-to area diner. I have been going here since the 90s. The food is always good and consistent. I usually enjoy breakfast food here. Also used to do the turkey burger deluxe with fries and onion rings. Always a win. I really enjoy coming to breakfast. There is something about their pancakes that are eggy and moist. The syrup hits these just right. I usually get a scrambled egg with cheese and some hash browns. I have never been disappointed The two brothers that own the place are always friendly and amazingly do not seem to forget a face. I hope they stay in business for years to come

Everything was fine except the food. Ambience is nice, the people are friendly, and the service was good. I give 3 stars because my husband, liked their waffle and pancake, but my omelette had no taste at all--I couldn't eat it. Even when I took it home for my dad, he couldn't eat it either. I tried some waffle and chicken from my husband's plate, which were okay. Overall, the service was nice, but the food was just okay.

One of the top Hempstead Turnpike diners, for sure. Colony Diner is what I think of when I think diner. Stainless steel counter seating, mirrors everywhere, and a warm host welcoming you into an oversized booth, placing down a menu that looks like it could be a novel. I came here on a Monday afternoon for lunch with my mom and brother. All of us were in the mood for something a little different. My go-to diner order is a cup of matzoh ball soup and turkey cheeseburger, which is what I ordered. Unfortunately they'd just run out of turkey burgers, so I had to last minute switch to the turkey club as my back up. The matzoh ball soup here was a bit of a let down. It was a little overdone, not much flavor to the broth and no carrots, celery or onions, just the broth which really lacked. My turkey club made up for it, piled high with turkey and just the right amount of mayo. They brought out complimentary coleslaw and pickles which I appreciated. My mom got the cheeseburger deluxe which came with fries and two onion rings and looked delicious. My brother got the eggs benedict that was absolutely smothered in hollandaise in the best way. I'm still shocked at how high diner prices are in general these days, but for the state of the economy I think Colony's prices are pretty fair. I'll be back next time I'm in the area and need my diner fix.

WOW and WOW! You can't tell from the pictures but the portions are humongous and everything tastes great! The interior is very aesthetic and inviting . The staff are really friendly, attentive and accommodating! I can't say enough positives and believe me, I know my diners! For diners it is def 5 stars ! They still have a huge menu and lots to choose from. Very accommodating to children. They have lots of booths, round tables for 6 and large booths that can hold prob 7-8 people. Very comfy. Good parking lot. Near Eisenhower park, so convenient. 9 minutes from museum row. Needless to say , we all took home doggy bags! Sorry no picks of interior but it is attractive.

Apollo had gluten free penne that could be used with any of the sauces they had. My friend decided to get her gluten free pasta with white clam sauce and she seemed to be satisfied. As for me I got the eggplant parmigiana that came with a side pasta and soup or salad. Portions were generous and I had enough for lunch the next day. Eggplant parmigiana was executed well with thin sliced, breadcrumb coated eggplant that was properly fried, coated with a mild marinara sauce and topped with melted cheese. Side pasta was overcooked. The red sauce was standard. The size of the plate made it difficult to mix the sauce and pasta without spilling some off of the plate. Had a sip of another friend's Bloody Mary that was decent and was spicer than others I tried. She also offered to try some of her baked clams that had a nice blend of breadcrumbs, clams and spices. I didn't get to try the buffalo burger. My friend seemed to be ok with it but not thrilled either. Service was average. The bathroom was clean but the major issue was the temperature inside which was at least 15 degrees colder than the rest of the restaurant. Not sure why that was the case.

There is a particular kind of restaurant that understands its job is not to dazzle you into silence…read morebut to make conversation easier. The Shed, on Merrick Avenue, is that kind of place. The dining room is anchored by an olive tree that rises improbably from the center of the floor, its branches catching the light from a constellation of milk-glass globes. Along the bar, bottles glow against whitewashed brick, and the marble counter is set with striped linen napkins. The effect is part farmhouse and part supper club, and it is more inviting than either would be on its own. The menu favors familiar dishes executed with care. A glazed salmon arrives lacquered and deeply caramelized at the edges, resting on wilted spinach and a bright hash of corn, peas, and shallot, all bound by a butter sauce worth chasing with a fork. The fish sandwich is a study in restraint: a well-seasoned, pan-crisped fillet, a soft brioche bun, and a tangle of slaw, with a plump pickle and coleslaw alongside, as tradition demands. Dessert is where The Shed allows itself some indulgence. A dense, fudgy brownie, dusted with powdered sugar and set beside a scoop of vanilla ice cream melting into chocolate sauce, recalls childhood without apology. Notably, the restaurant takes its non-alcoholic drinks seriously. The mocktail list is broad and thoughtful, a welcome gesture of hospitality toward diners who would rather skip the spirits without skipping the fun. Service, led on this evening by a warm and unhurried server, matched the room. Tables linger here, and no one seems to mind. The Shed isn't trying to reinvent anything. It simply does the familiar things well, in a room that makes you want to stay for another round of dessert and another hour of talk.

Dear sunrise Diner Management,…read more I wanted to take a moment to let you know what a wonderful experience I had at your diner. From the moment we walked in, the service was outstanding. Your staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome throughout our visit. It's refreshing to receive such excellent customer service. The food was absolutely fantastic, but I have to give special recognition to your homemade chicken pot pie. It was one of the best I've ever had--perfectly seasoned, full of tender chicken and fresh vegetables, with a delicious flaky crust. You can truly taste the homemade quality. I brought my friend, Gene with me, and he couldn't believe how great everything was. He was just as impressed with both the food and the outstanding service. We both left saying we'll definitely be back. Thank you for providing such a memorable dining experience. It's clear that everyone at sunrise Diner takes pride in what they do, and it certainly shows. We'll be recommending your diner to our family and friends and look forward to visiting again soon. That being said, on September 23rd I was in search of something new and exciting and I was guided to Thomas's Ham & Eatery. I have passed Thomas's Ham & Eatery over a dozen times, and thought that the parking lot was rather small so I just kept it moving. Driving into the confined area, I found parking immediately with room to spare. Stepping inside of Thomas's Ham & Eater, a wave of happiness hit me--bright, sudden, and uplifting, like the effervescence from a freshly popped bottle of champagne. The happy atmosphere of the dining area was so contagious I immediately followed suit and put on a happy face. Looking around the restaurant and soaking it all in , I saw tons of people enjoying their meal while listening to groovy sounds such as; The Eagles - Peaceful Easy feeling, Bonnie Tyler- Total Eclipse of my heart, and so much more, but I got overly excited when Elton John & Kiki Dee's- Don't Go Breaking My Heart came on. I was in full sing along mode as I was seated. Now I would love to talk about the food and service. The restaurant was clean and tables were freshly wiped. My waitress provided impeccable service as she stayed in catering mode. She supplied everything that I needed with kindness and passion. She was very patient and did not mind coming back to see when I was actually ready to order after looking over the menu. I went totally off the grid and ordered Cajun Omelette. It consisted of Louisiana Andouille Sausage (LAS), Tomato, Scallions & Green Peppers, and served with Home Fries& Toast- $16.45. Despite the small amount of LSA, the omelette was a grand slam. I really enjoyed it, the home fries had a few peppers and onions and just enough burn to let you know that they were not entirely overcooked but you will have that crunch. I did ask for lite butter on the rye toast, instead I received enough butter to lubricate bicycle gears, I scrapped it off and kept it moving, no harm no foul. The coffee was just as good and I really enjoyed it as well. I give Thomas's Ham & Eatery 3 1/2 stars but the atmosphere and tone boost it up to 5 stars, I will definitely be returning for another HAPPY MEAL! Inspire more, Yelp more!
