Just rude and unpleasant. We come here all the time and spend hundreds of dollars a year here, and I just dropped a $20 tip in the jar two days ago as a New Years gesture. Today their credit card machine is down but instead of saying so when you order, they put up a scribbled sign inside the window. We waited for our sandwiches and went to pay, only to find that they can't accept cards, have no ATM, and are rude about it. The guy behind us also didn't have cash and the man said, "the sign was up here the whole time you were ordering." Wow. Whatever happened to, "I'm sorry, we should have mentioned it when you ordered and before you stood here for ten minutes to not get the food because our systems failed." Or maybe, "just give me your name and I'll write you up an IOU. Pay us next time you're here." Like a friendly neighborhood place would be expected to do. So we left our sandwiches on the counter. First things first, the conversation you have with the customer should be strictly professional. You should never make a comment that you "wouldn't be able to tell the difference between what you want and what I give you" If someone is asking for something particular that's what they should get. If you don't have it than that's fine but snickering comments are never appreciated as to what I want being the customer. Coming from someone who works in the customer service industry this was just an instance of an establishment being unprofessional and sub par. Whether it's deli meats, bread, sandwiches, or catering orders ever sale should be professional and handled with the upmost respect. Unfortunately this was not one of those cases. read more

I've been coming to Atlantic Avenue Deli since relocating to Baldwin from Oceanside about 3.5 years ago and I'm so glad I found them! Let's face it, Long Island deli staffs are about as a hungry fat kid on a day long express bus trip. They're bitchy, rude and can make the whole experience miserable. That said, the people at Atlantic Avenue Deli are all about "service with a smile." They even sound like their grinning when you phone in an order. This is the only area Deli I know of that makes breakfast sandwiches all day. Yes, 3:00 PM Bacon & Egg sandwich hangover remedies are readily available at Atlantic Ave Deli! That alone would make for a great experience, but their other sandwiches, paninis and entrees are wonderful as well. About the only problem I have with Atlantic Ave Deli is the wait. Expensive but good.. but expensive. Nice big deli, seems to do lot of business in the morning for their famous "mess" sandwiches. I love the triple mess -- 3 eggs, bacon, sasuage and friggin' ham on a roll with salt pepper and ketchup. Yep... a fat kid's dream breakfast minus the pancakes. They seem to have a regular crowd -- everyone is known on a first name basis -- I was the only dope that was clearly an "outside" from the deli's morning club. No matter though -- fast service, abysmal brown water coffee, awesome sandwich and I was on my way to work. Can't make this a daily habit. Why? I was recently visiting a friend in Long Island and happened upon Atlantic Ave Deli. What I thought was a nice family establishment turned into an uncomfortable situation. One of the employees (an older bald guy who reeked of marijuana) started bragging about not being vaccinated and was not wearing a mask. It was really alarming for someone to make light of such a serious situation during this pandemic. Not surprised if these other negative reviews are about the same guy. Matt makes the best breakfast sandwich hands down. No matter how large or small the order is, Matt nails it every time. Place is always clean. My normal wait is about 5-10 minutes, which is outstanding because there is always a crowd of people at the counter awaiting their delicious breakfast. Im always greeted with a smile and I always leave anxious waiting to eat my meal. Sometimes I race to work a few miles away just so I can eat it sooner. I work very close to this deli and we ordered for a meeting at my job and the guy was very nice when I called, they came right on time and the food was ok. So I figured I try them again and I ordered home fries with an egg and cheese sandwich on whole wheat toast. The home fries were burnt and too many seasonings on it and by seasonigs i mean like some orange seasonigs were on the home fries and they tasted more like crunchy small french fries. I did not like them. The egg and cheese sandwich was ok The cheese wasnt good. It tasted like the sliced pre packaged cheese. The service was very good. They were smiling, quick and efficient. One of my favorite places to go for sandwiches. They make the best bacon egg and cheese! Their rolls are so soft, makes the sandwiches extra delectable! I try to order ahead of time so that my sandwich is ready. Only once did I have to wait and instead of apologizing the lady told me "it happens!" REVIEW ABOUT CATERING ... because who doesn't love the deli. Full disclosure, I used to work @ Atlantic, but years ago ... I'm not sure if Lou is still there, but Joey sure is. Awesome. That said, I have had Atlantic cater a few parties, and the service and products are excellent. BUT - and here's the basis of the five-star review - the food is surprisingly good. I say "surprisingly", because really, what do you want from deli-catered food? The food from Atlantic is really delicious. For the most recent party I had the eggplant rollatini, the chicken francese, and the sausage and peppers. Wow, was that good. Even the macaroni salad was amazing. I also had a party catered recently by Happy Hostess. The staff was great, but the food was barely edible (also surprising, but in a bad way!) Do not hesitate to call Atlantic for your catering needs. And like I said, even though I used to work there, this is -not- a shill - the food really is delicious. read more
