They seem like a old hole in a wall place, but it's part of their charm. Their menu is small but big on quality. The chicken club is the best on the island, hands down! So simple but the best flavor, best quality on the best bread. Second favorite is the champ! And they make their heroes so that nothing ends up being soggy...well unless you get one with gravy...but that's expected. They are quick to get your orders out. It is a cash establishment. But they do have an atm. They have picnic tables outside and very limited seating inside. You can park in the back or on the street. I've been coming here for quite some time, it's basically a Long Island institution, but last night we stopped by since it's been a hot second, and the sandwiches were just as iconic as ever. We shared their famous chicken club with melted provolone (you will love that twist), and the breaded chicken cutlets, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and bacon make this club the cult favorite that it is. (I'm all about the bacon for the crunchy, textural, flavorful contrast.) We also shared their Italian sub, aka The Champ, which is filled with Italian meats along with 'the works.' You guys, if you do anything, savor the WORKS. Their blend of shredded lettuce, tomato, onion, oil, vinegar, and oregano is absolutely everything. I've been coming to My Hero Deli for years and was a huge fan of the previous owners, Dominic and Anthony. They created something really special, and I'm happy to say the new owners, Chris and his partner, have totally kept that spirit alive. They're super hands-on and really care about the place. The food is just as amazing as ever actually, maybe even better. Everything is super fresh, the sandwiches are massive, and the prices are still really fair. The staff is great too, especially seeing familiar faces from back in the day who still know exactly how to make everything the way we all remember. The place has had a nice update, and the new kitchen setup is awesome. I think the old owners would definitely be proud of the improvements. Also love that they're open seven days a week now no more showing up on a Monday and being disappointed. This place has always been a favorite, and I'm so glad it's in such good hands. read more

"My Hero" has been a Hero Lovers icon for many years! The variety of hero's are endless and the new owners have been keeping up with the times and adding some trendy new varieties to their menus! However, one of my all time favorites "Roasted Pork, Broccoli Rabe with melted mozzarella" was better than before! Today was the first time I ordered it that it was not soggy from the broccoli rabe. Each ingredient was perfectly placed with symmetry. Every bite was perfection from start to finish! I have to say a few things about this place. For one my food is always on point and consistent, they always have quality food. Another story id like to share is I placed and order on uber min before the store closed and waited patiently for an hour and it kept saying the driver was at the place picking it up for about an hour of it. Then I get a call from the owner saying that he had my order waiting for me and says he hasn't seen a driver but it says they were waiting. Then he tells me he'll come drop it off. He comes shows up and dropped off my food. I was super impressed and this place just went up a few more notches. I will always recommend this place. This hero shop is exemplary. I grew up in the area and I have no idea why it took me so long to go here - maybe bc hero places weren't destinations 20 years ago. But right now, THIS is how you do it, and few do it like this anymore. Great bread, great taste, great quality, and the prices are totally fine. They have a lot of special sandwiches that piqued my interest, including Flounder Parm - that's as local as you get. Next time I find a reason to get heroes for catering, I will pick up from here. Seems like My Hero has been a pretty big local spot for a long time and I've been wanting to try it for a while. With that in mind, I was able to finally get their heroes a few times over the past year. The place is very much a grab and go type of place that is small and cash only. A good thing I've noticed is that their prices seem to include tax. The sandwich I've been getting is the 'chicken club', which has chicken cutlet, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo ($13). I usually substitute honey mustard for the mayo though. I pretty much have nothing but good things to say about the sandwich. First off, the full size sandwich is huge - enough for 2 meals probably. And that's exactly how I like my heroes. The chicken cutlet is breaded nicely and fairly thin. They pack a lot of it on there and the bread also has been pretty fresh every time. It all comes together perfectly and definitely one of my favorite cheat meals in the rotation. The only other deli on LI that I frequent occassionally is Cherry Valley and I think the sandwich at My Hero delivers significantly more quality and quantity at the same price. So I'd give it 5 stars for the time being. read more

Everything they make is delicious and fresh. I'm a big fan of their bread too. I always have to get 2 hero's because the first one I eat on the drive home and I'm getting crumbs and seeds all over my car but I don't care because it's that good. I may have ruined a couple of shirts because my clothes know how well the food taste and they can't help but want to try some. They filled the sandwich, mostly with condiments not the stuff that you actually want. The bread taste like it was 3 days old. I used to go to this place when I went to The Jerusalem avenue Junior high School which was down the street and is now a BOCES, so you can imagine how long all that was. I hate to say it but after being a loyal customer since the 80's and even after new ownership being not as good...today was my last straw. After today I am convinced the new owner needs therapy and anger management. Today is the fourth time that I have witnessed him yell at a patron, use foul language, berate a person and kick them out all while seeming like a deranged lunatic in front of a store full of people. He even walked outside to confront a customer who waiting for his order. Today it happened with my 6 year old daughter seeing the whole thing and experiencing this. But they made such a poor decision when they changed up the bread to save some money. Absolute disgrace to the name and disrespect to the people who have been coming to this place for years and the original owners. For years, our friends told us to try My Hero. After living near it for 15 years, we finally did. Who would think a hero is a big deal? I do now. There's really little ambiance. You go in, hopefully with no line out the door, and wait to be called when your order is ready. You can call in advance which I recommend, but it's sometimes nice to wait as the staff is so nice and rank on each other, so you're laughing a lot. They recently changed ownership, but it hasn't effected anything negatively. They have picnic tables in front to sit and eat or wait for your goods. The Champ with The Works is my favorite sandwich there. They really know how to make this Italian hero so it's "tight". None of the meat falls out. It just stays in the yummy bread. The Cole Slaw also deserves an honorable mention. So good. They cater too. They make anything you want, any way you want. Sometimes I'll go in and get a large (always a large because you'll want leftovers) just because there's no line. So, in a world where heroes (not hoagies or subs. My first time and I will be back! We ordered the: Bocconcini with the works The Champ with the works Chicken Club Tuna The eggplant is the best eggplant, which is hard to find. I like it Sicilian style with flour, not breadcrumbs. I was extremely pleased when I saw it! My one "complaint" is that the works can make it soggy - so next time I will ask for less or leave it off. This place has been a staple in the community since I was a kid. Always would pick up hero's for family and friends esp when heading to the beach. This new owner has ruined a successful business by nickel and diming as well as the skimpy hero's. They use to be huge and plentiful. If you don't believe me , just look at others photos on here. After hitting the gym, I was craving a sandwich and stumbled upon My Hero on Yelp. With all the good reviews, I put the destination into my map. It's on a main road and I believe there is parking behind but I snagged a spot along the road and went in. The deli itself has an old school vibe to it. There is no seating inside but there is some outside. It was cold so I devoured my sandwich in the car. I crafted my own hero while my bf ordered the Cuban. Mine had chicken cutlet, pepper jack, lettuce, tomato, pickles and Russian dressing. The weight alone to the subs was insane! And quite frankly if you get a large consider yourself fed for at least two meals. The food was soo fresh, delicious and you can tell they do homemade chicken cutlets which is a huge plus. The Cuban was also really good and unique in flavor! The service is fast and I want to note they only take cash so make sure you have some before stopping in.
