This sandwich shop has been an institution since 1970..parking and seating is limited, CASH ONLY..the service is good very friendly everything was prepared accurately. After hitting the gym, I was craving a sandwich and stumbled upon My Hero on Yelp. With all the good reviews, I put the destination into my map. It's on a main road and I believe there is parking behind but I snagged a spot along the road and went in. The deli itself has an old school vibe to it. There is no seating inside but there is some outside. It was cold so I devoured my sandwich in the car. I crafted my own hero while my bf ordered the Cuban. Mine had chicken cutlet, pepper jack, lettuce, tomato, pickles and Russian dressing. The weight alone to the subs was insane! And quite frankly if you get a large consider yourself fed for at least two meals. The food was soo fresh, delicious and you can tell they do homemade chicken cutlets which is a huge plus. The Cuban was also really good and unique in flavor! The service is fast and I want to note they only take cash so make sure you have some before stopping in. I can't wait to come back here and try something else (or knowing how good what I got was, maybe the same haha). read more

My hero was a staple in the community and went there for dinner the other day and was so disappointed. No line and just 2 other people there. Not what it use to be. The chicken club was so dry, barely any lettuce or mayo on it. The new owners have changed how the heros are made and not in a good way... if it's not broken don't fix it.. change it all back then there would be lines like it use to be. read more

This place has been a staple in the community since I was a kid. Always would pick up hero's for family and friends esp when heading to the beach. This new owner has ruined a successful business by nickel and diming as well as the skimpy hero's. They use to be huge and plentiful. If you don't believe me , just look at others photos on here. I would be willing to even pay more money for a quality hero packed with meat.. theirs is like a crap subway sandwich.. I tried a few times since the new owner took over and it continues to suck.. Amazing, family run business!! Food is the freshest as they are cooking it to keep up with the crowd!! And, yes, it's crowded!! But the line moves fast as they have many behind the counter preparing customers orders... A hometown eatery with a few indoor and outdoor seating that we visit sometimes more than once a week!!! Chicken Club is a must try. Excellent choices of sandwiches and abundantly packed with meat, served relatively quickly especially if you can get through the endless busy signal on the phone when pre-ordering, My Hero does sandwiches the old fashion way, which translates to the right way,great business model just don't look for a hero for Sunday football games in the fall because they packem in all week long and have no need to be open on God's day!!! My go to is Large Roast beef melt with melted mozzarella on a garlic bread hero with extra meat and extra garlic I promise you that you won't be disappointed by this or any other sandwiches in this joint! My third time here and I'll probably be back as the other sandwiches for my family come out good but I ask for "shaved" cuts for the meat every single time and they never come out shaved not even thin. In fact it's always thick. I don't know why that part is so hard. I see them slicing fresh cold cuts. It's just a slight turn of the dial! Look at my photo. Bought a $85 - 4 foot catering sub, the condiments provided wasn't nearly enough for the size so asked for some extra. They proceeded to charge me $2 per extra container. Wasn't asking for a crazy amount just to justify size of the sub, hate nickel and diming esp when spending that amount. Can tell new ownership going down hill- plus they changed the honey mustard which blows!!! read more

An 85 degree October day called for a visit to the beach. Lunch on the beach seemed even better. My Hero is located about 1 mile off the Southern State Pkwy, so it was an easy detour while heading to Jones Beach. Arriving during prime lunch time, there were people eating outside and a line inside. While the line was about 10 people long, it seemed to move at a good pace. Sandwiches are offered in 2 sizes, small and large. Let me just say the small is by no means small and at $5.50, its a much better deal than a $5 foot-long. The Champ is an Italian cold cut sandwich; get it with the Works which adds lettuce, tomato, onion, salt & pepper, oil and vinegar. A well made sandwich with high quality ingredients. Delicious. The Chicken Club, was outstanding. Moist chicken cutlets with crispy bacon, lettuce and tomato. I asked for hot sauce to be added and it was amazing. Sandwiches are bursting with ingredients and by no means skimpy in any way. The bread is soft and chewy which makes for quite an enjoyable eating experience. This is a great spot and I'll be sure to hit it up again for my next beach day. read more

I've been a customer for decades. It's been my go-to for parties, days at the beach, or just for a quick bite. Unfortunately, under new ownership nearly everything has gone downhill. The bread used to be one of the best I've ever had and now you can barely chew it. The sandwiches are significantly smaller and thinner for the same price. The ingredients and deli meats seem to have changed for the worse also. I truly hope the new owners reverse course and bring this shop back to its old glory as it was the best out there before these changes. read more

I'm so disheartened to have My Hero purchased by different owners and have the quality plummet. The honey mustard was the BEST of all time and the switched from an artisan honey mustard to kraft. It's just not the same and I won't be going back unless they change back to full size subs and the real honey mustard. read more

We have been coming here for years... 12 to be exact. Today as running around hubby asked if we could stop in... big mistake!! HUGE MISTAKE!!! When we got home to eat the turkey with lettuce and tomato sandwich we knew immediately that something was very different... first the turkey is now shredded so they can use less... next it was awful. And I mean really really awful. Tasted like old turkey laying around for a few days to many... No flavor at all. Then my hubby took some of his side salad...his words "this is disgusting"!! We then threw it all out. We called our son and asked if by any chance the owner sold since he knows him. Yup he did!! We will not be going back for terrible food and we are now both feeling sick. If this place lasts with this new owner I will be surprised. read more

On top of that, I waited almost 30 minutes for a $15.50 sandwich that didn't taste good. What really threw me off, though, was what I noticed while waiting. I saw employees vaping right in front of the food, and I watched them handle money and then touch the food with the same gloves -- which makes wearing gloves pointless. On top of that, the staff seemed irritated with each other the whole time, like nobody actually wanted to be there. The place feels rundown, the service is uncomfortable, and the food didn't deliver. Based on what I experienced, I wouldn't recommend it.

I had the pleasure of visiting My Hero restaurant today, which has recently undergone a change in ownership. Excited to see what the new management had in store, I decided to try their renowned Bang Bang Shrimp sandwich. Let me tell you, it was absolutely delightful! Yeah so if I wanna grab a hero I come here. I love coming here especially how welcoming they are here. Everything is fresh by the way. I usually come n get my chicken cutlet hero with lettuce, tomato, mayo. It is prob my favorite thing ever besides getting regular ham, lettuce, tomato, cheese and mayo. My Hero is amazing! The line gets long but it is so worth it! I like making a wrap here with chicken cutlet, lettuce, tomato, cheddar, and ranch! So good. Old school place. Love eating outdoors when it is nice out. The guys who work there are super nice and remember your face and order after a few visits! I don't live that close to this hero place, but its worth the drive. I love the Champ with the works and my wife just loves the Chicken Club. Every so often we will take the ride and pick up a couple of hero's and have half at lunch and then we swap and I have her other half for dinner and she has mine. Love it!!!! read more

Very disappointed in the quality and the service since covid. They overcharge every time. They never get all the sandwiches correct. And the last two times we ordered there was grey hair. None of us have grey hair, yet the guy who took our order does. Yuck. C'mon man. read more
