I have ordered the same meal in a dozen diners, and all are fairly consistent. It was sub-par at the Embassy Diner. Maybe it is unfair to rate a diner on a holiday evening. I play in Long Island rock band Wonderous Stories and I've been to diners in every corner of the Island after thousands of gigs. We're going on 30 years for the band. I don't know the new owners from a hole in the wall. I received a birthday gift of a gift card from my friend and music fan Yossi. We went there last night and my wife immediately noticed the beautiful decor for Valentine's Day. We mentioned that we got a gift card from Yossi and we were given the red carpet treatment. I noticed the father and son team of Peter and Gus were treating everyone with equal respect. They were extremely crowded on a weeknight (Wednesday) which should tell you something. There were about 10 dinner specials and a large menu. I chose one of the specials (ragu and noodles) and Sue chose a full turkey dinner. Both meals were excellent and were huge so we will get 4 meals out of 2 dishes. Salad or soup plus veggies and or potatoes on the side. Plenty to eat. It was our first time there and they gave us complimentary desserts. We took them to go because we were stuffed. I don't expect to get free stuff when I go there again and we will go again, but the treatment we got made us feel great. I have nothing to gain by giving a good review except that they deserve this review. I haven't been to every diner on the Island although I've been to a lot of them but I would have to say that this is absolutely one of the best if not the best. Service, food choices and kindness. Growing up on Long Island, living in Jersey for a bit, and now living in the city, diners have always been a staple. This one was pretty standard if you are looking for a diner. Nothing special, nothing terrible. Eggs and toast were good. Hash browns were a bit flavorless with no crisp. Would stop again if needed food in the area. read more

Went this morning, and it was terrible. They were very busy and it shows the quality is lacking over the amount of people they are trying to rush in and out. Food was terrible, eggs were over cooked (brown) the bacon was raw, salad was horrible scraps that was supposed to be a greek salad with no red onions, no Greek olives just lettuce and peppers with "some" feta cheese. The gyro was made with grilled onions and peppers that is it. When we questioned they said that's how they make their gyros. When we asked to speak to the owner he was nasty and never came back. I went to the bathroom and passed him. When I met my husband to go pay, he said the meals weren't taken off and the owner left. I literally just passed him. He came back out and was nasty screaming at me I am here 50 years. I know people are trying to make up for pandemic loss, but as customers and the inflation cost is going up, to take a family of 5 out is costly and you expect decent food that is editable. This was absolutely disgusting, and the owner handle it very poorly. He was so angry instead of apologetic. Run!!! read more

Totally horrible experience. Only decent part was the waiter expect for his excuses. First I ordered a chicken gyro and I do not know what country they get their recipes from but both the waiter and manager said my pita filled with grilled onions and peppers and bland gyro meat was a gyro. Sorry but I have never had a gyro like that. Second my daughters scrambled eggs were totally hammered, they were all brown on one slide. Again both waiter and manager saw no problem with that either. Lastly I know it is not tomato season but sending out a salad filled with white and green tomatoes is still unacceptable. Besides all these issues again the way the manager/owner handled it was totally horrible and rude. Last when I went to the counter to ask for the manager one last time to have the cost of my daughters eggs removed from my bill the lady told me he had stepped out. When my wife asked what's going on I told her and she said no he's right there. His response was again a terrible excuse of I stepped into the kitchen, well she said you were not in the building. I know this place is very busy but if you want terrible food then this is your place. Oh and lastly when I handed the manager money to give the waiter the tip he took it and threw it to the side. Very rude and I guess he can not handle he has zero control over the quality of food being served and that his cooks just throw whatever they want into dishes that are completely wrong. Having lived on LI most of my life, I grew up coming to this diner over the years. I recently came back after moving away and this place isn't the same. The food was fine, nothing special but I don't know if it's under new ownership or about to go out of business but something was off and the place felt like it's getting outdated and going downhill. The breakfast we had was a standard diner breakfast of tea/coffee eggs, toast etc. and that was fine. When I went to pay I was told it is cash only. I have never gone to a diner that was cash only in NY. They had an ATM there but I was annoyed I had to pay an extra fee to take cash out. The front desk manager said there was a sign and "didn't I see it on the way in?"... I did not make any complaints or anything at all, but I did not see any sign posted outside and looked on my way out. The only thing I saw after I was told cash only was a small barely noticeable sign on the counter that says they charge a 3.5% credit card fee! There was nothing about cash only... it didn't make any sense, as the sign says they are charging a fee for card use but then I was told cash only. If you do end up going here, bring cash. read more

I have lived in this town my whole life and Embassy was always a staple. I went yesterday after every other place we tried was packed. We walked in. 2 ladies seated on bench, waiting and a couple standing in front of us. Hostess, a short, 50-ish looking woman with long black hair, kind of acknowledged us. While she seated them, another couple came in and were standing behind us. Long story longer, she basically ignored us and seated the couple who came in after us, before us. My friend politely mentioned we had been there first and this hostess lady started getting really loud with her and it was very uncomfortable. We were finally seated and honestly, food and service were fine. It was the "hostess from hell" who made me decide that I will never return. She also was sooooo nasty to the servers and I could hear her yelling at ppl in kitchen when she thought no one could hear her (we were seated right outside the kitchen) Ew. Nasty hostess = no return. And I'm sad about that bc I've been there a million times over the last 30 years but hellll no, I won't tolerate that. They need to reopen Luxe. That is all. read more

If I could give this diner 100 stars I would!! Absolutely the best!! What's not to love? From the moment you walk in, Gus (or Billy) is right there to greet you with a smile! Prior to new ownership, my family has been going there for years. Not so much in the past 10 years. My husband and I have gone a handful of times pre-new owners. Wasn't loving it. Once I told my husband that they have new owners, he said he would give it one more shot. Well, since they took over we are there at least 2-3x a week! They make my girls feel so special. Always giving out lollipops and cookies. Jason, one of the waiters is the best! He goes out of his way to make conversation with my 7yr old. She loves him!! It's the little things that go a long way! As far as people who complain about the TVs and what they put on; I have no complaints,....little bit of everything. If you don't like a particular channel they have on, don't watch. It's that simple. . As far as the American flags, you can never have enough to support our great country. So proud to see their patriotism on display!! I usually eat here once or twice a week in the morning and have meetings with clients. This time I came at night and ordered 2 eggs with home fries and corned beef hash! The corned beef hash was disgusting---it reminded me of ALPO dog food! The waiter was great but the cashier and host just played on their phone with their heads down and didn't even notice when people came into the store. She never asked me "how was your food?" Because I would have told her in a nice way the above!! They could have been cleaning some of the dust off the fans or sweeping the floors but instead just sat on their asses and played with their phones!! I have to agree with Dennis one of the worst experiences of my life!! The silverware first of all is dirty and old also the seats are disgusting!! The older waitress is slow as a turtle never brought out our soda's and coleslaw and pickles! She yelled I forgot what do you expect?? Really?? Her fingernails were in our food as she placed it down! Can one dish make or break a restaurant? That is the question I ask in this review for the Embassy Diner. Embassy has your standard diner look and feel to it and the facility is kept well sanitized (which shouldn't be an issue but you'd be surprised what some Long Island diners look like on a bad day). Service depends on who you have but expect your typical older waiters serving you your meals. I haven't had too many problems with them; nothing spectacular but nothing outright bad either. Your menu options are plentiful as expected so you're bound to find something to pique your interest; unfortunately I have not experienced too many choices on the menu and based on the average score, it sounds that most have had only average to mediocre experiences. Thankfully the diner craving that I get all too often is quenched at Embassy. I'm a huge panini guy and Embassy has some of the best options around as far as diners go! In almost every visit here I get the same order: the Mediterranean Panini (grilled chicken, sun dried tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and peppers) with a side of sweet potato fries, pickles and coleslaw. The coleslaw isn't overflowing with liquid as most diner slaw tends to be and the pickles are solid, packing a nice crunch. The sweet potato fries, though sometimes a tad too greasy, are full of flavor and have a crispy texture. The panini gets me EVERY time though. The chicken is fresh and seasoned perfectly, the toppings are plentiful, and the portions are out of this world. Prices are your average fare but you get much more than you would at most diners; with a panini this good, it reaches addictive levels. I also highly recommend their All American Panini if you decide to stray from this amazing gem. That's all I've sampled at Embassy and I like it so much that I don't feel inclined to order anything else. Others who frequent this place more often than me have mentioned that their burgers and other panini options are tasty as well. Still, I don't doubt that the complaints by my fellow yelpers here are invalid; some diners handle specific dishes better than others and perhaps they fall short in many aspects. At the end of the day, if you're looking for a delicious panini and bring your never-ending appetite with you, Embassy's got you covered! read more

Place is dirty - menus are sticky with old food and fingerprints. Yuck... Food is disgusting - obviously frozen and thawed and cooked in grease... Waaaaaaay overpriced. $9/$10 for three thawed out cheese blintzes that were obviously purchased at stop and shop with a small side of pie filling? Gross. My mother in law who has Alzheimer's and our friend who helps her on weekends go here every weekend. Two weeks ago they had to leave abruptly and they forgot to leave a to tip. Last week they left double the tip. Perhaps this was not communicated because today they were asked to move out of the section of the crybaby server who they did not tip two weeks ago. Their new server today said he didn't want to serve them. Great way to keep your regular customers. Maybe a long winded story but it's things like this that get people talking about why you shouldn't patronize this place. There are a lot of other diners nearby-try them out first. read more

Love this diner, we go here all the time during all different times of day and night. I live very close, so we're always stopping here for a quick breakfast on our way out somewhere, lunch/dinner when we're just in the mood for diner food or late night bites after the bars. Everything is always consistently good here from the mozzarella sticks to the soup to sandwiches, eggs, and everything in between. I have been a loyal customer of the Embassy Diner for quite some time. I've been going since I was a little kid. I love the people who work there. While the food isn't what you would get at a 5 star restaurant in Manhattan, just remember in most cases you get what you pay for. The food is good. I wouldn't keep going back if the food wasn't good. They have great onion rings(and I am NOT a fan of onion rings at all..I actually don't like any onion products), chicken fingers, gyros and burgers. But my all time favorite is their grilled cheese. Something about the way they make theirs is just so gooey and delicious. This diner certainly beats the empress diner going towards Levittown, The Bethpage townhouse(which is about a block down the road) and the Turnpike diner going towards Farmingdale. read more

N A S T Y ! The worst diner we have been to since arriving on "the island" and we've been to many. The place is really grimy as can be evidenced by the dirty silverware. We had breakfast and it was awful. Scrambled eggs should not be runny nor should bacon, both were. I was able to eat the toast with the "spread" the put on it in a giant lump but it was a struggle. We love this place. The food is way better then expected, and the menu is huge. We have always gotten the same two servers, and they have been very attentive and friendly. The parking lot for this diner is always full so I was eager to give it another shot. I recently went back and had a bacon cheeseburger with fries. The meal starts with a plate of slaw and pickles which were both very tasty. The burger soon followed and it was thick and (somewhat) juicy served with 3 nice size strips of bacon and a plethora of lettuce and tomato. The fries had a good crunch... Lousy experience all around. We met up with a group for dinner here. Problems right from the start. The breadbasket had burnt rolls. Next the soup was cold! A most serious offense to a Jew. Then my wife's lemon sole which really was tilapia, was cooked to hell. So dried out you couldn't cut it with a fork. We sent it back! Sides of veggies were old and cold. Mashed potato looked like a tub of wall spackle. Thought it was best I didn't try it. My moussaka was average at best and they gave me enough of it to have leftovers into next week. Desserts were not much to get excited about either Chocolate Mousse & Cheesecake were cafeteria quality. We would not return. read more
