Unfortunately, I couldn't actually eat here because right as I started to order, they turned on a gospel station, too loud. This wasn't the classics or even Christian rock, but the "bathed in the blood" type. I asked the waitress if they were going to leave this station on and she said yes. So I left. Everyone who was there was over 60 and seemed to be locals so presumably they knew what the deal was. If this is not your thing, you'll need to go elsewhere. read more

Our first time to Elvira's and not through lack of trying, every time we come by, it's closed. Turns out they only open for breakfast through lunch, closing at 2 (not 2:30 as it currently says on Google) and then on Fri & Sat they reopen at 4:30 - 8:30pm. Now that the hours are out of the way, IF you can get there when they're open, the food is delicious and fast. The flavors are rich and the portions are generous. They do seem to run out of a lot of things, so try to get there early. Some other locals recommended that we come back for dinner in the evening as they said the liver and onions 'can't be beat'! That sounds like an invitation we will take them up on. It is pretty high priced and one negative (beside the lack of hours) is that the coconut cream pie does not have a meringue top it is more like a sweet cool whip or fake cream. That is minor though and no doubt just a difference in taste. The decor is great and it is exceptionally clean. We saw them emptying, taking apart the nozzle and washing out the tea container with great diligence and that was impressive. We will be back. read more

Saw this restaurant listed on a couple of lists for "Best Restaurants" so we decided to give it a try. We went on a Saturday in the late afternoon. I had checked online and found their breakfast menu and a lunch menu...no dinner menu, so I assume that their dinner must be the same as the lunch menu...it's not. I had my heart set on the adult grilled cheese sandwich and we were told they didn't have the supplies needed to make one. So...don't go after 4:30 and expect to eat off the menu listed on their website. Not a big deal but it would have been nice to know ahead of time. This place is definitely worth the drive but is a bit of a drive from Pigeon Forge area. Their service and food was really good but make sure to read the menu fully in the descriptions! My food came mixed up and I was not expecting that. Need to get the hash brown casserole it's amazing! read more

This was a nice surprise. Everything we ordered was tasty and the service was excellent. I had a spinach, egg and feta crepe for breakfast and it was amazing. Hear me out: Have eaten here for years. The staff are friendly and vivacious. It's kinda a ritual for our trips. Always on point. Two things were diff today and I will not be back l, unfortunately. I'm laid back and pretty easy going until I feel greed or disrespect is present. My wife ordered chkn and waffles, and the chicken presented resembled a portion and size I've seen my niece get from Dennys for $2.99. $15 for 2.5 children's strips. (And waffles are waffles : low cost) She asked me not to say anything, I complied but good golly I can't believe the person who plated it, and serve it, thought that was a good value and presentation for a consumer. Just my opinion and it may be wrong. Then as I went to pay, I now find a notice on my receipt that says I have to pay for the businesses cost of taking payment. I have not and do not care for nor accept that a business thinks it's appropriate for a consumer to pay their cost of commerce for credit cards. It's 2023, I don't carry much cash and use a credit card like 80% of people. I felt I had to choose between paying the extortion amount I was notified about AFTER engaging in business with the place or scrap what cash I could then go find another ATM for emergency replenishment. No joke, I would NOT have entered into business with the place out of principle of them feeling entitled to charge the customer their fees. I feel it's pathetic and greedy, just my opinion. Had I not been with family and friends who would rather pay ridiculous and greedy tolls rather than risk confrontation, I would have refused to pay with cash and refused the fee and been glad to see where it went from there. Elvira, I may be wrong or you may feel I'm a Karen but I feel these two issues were greed and/or absent minded business practices. I'll seek business elsewhere. Thanks for reading! read more

My family stayed in a cabin walking distance from Elvira's Cafe and after trying it one morning we went back the very next day. The food was amazing as well as the atmosphere and service! I highly recommend stopping here for a quick bite if you are in town or just passing by. read more

Unfortunately I would not recommend this location. To be rated so highly and have a restaurant in 2022 but not offer any vegan options besides a mediocre salad is a shame. Never have I ever been so disappointed in a place, the salad they prepared I had requested the boiled eggs and cheese to be on the side(for my family who isn't vegan). And she still had them on the salad when she brought it out, aside from how blatant it felt she disregarded my request. The 1.75 extra I paid for avocado, left me wondering why I had. It was so mushy and the lady told me it was half of an avocado. Sure. Aside from my terrible experience, my family said the non vegan food was good which is why this place even has stars. Immediately greeted by a wonderfully kind gentlemen, he seated us rather quickly. Our server was bubbly and very nice, coming to our table to take out drink orders less than 5 minutes of sitting. I was shocked. They were pretty busy so I figured it would be a little wait. Nope, drinks came quick and our order was taken. We sat and admired the cute and quaint restaurant, then the food came. The freshest food. My chicken and waffles were perfect, my daughters grilled cheese couldn't have satisfied her more. My husbands burger was delicious (I had to taste it) it looks too good not to try. On our way out to pay we admired the local artwork and enjoyed the porch like we were sitting at home. I absolutely love Elvira's! If you don't check this place out it's your loss. The food is outstanding. The service is second to none. It is one of the most well managed restaurants in the area. We had a cabin about 5 minutes from there. I would order breakfast takeout. I would literally order it and leave and it would be ready when I got there. Always hot! I had the privilege of meeting the owner ( because I had to find out how it was so well run) She is a migrant from Russia and knows what tyranny really looks like. We talked about how we may lose our country if the American people don't wake up. Loved talking to her. She's spot on. She knows.....Support these local businesses. It's our support that feeds their families. Why wouldn't you support a business like this? Can't wait to come back to go here again. We come down about twice a year. read more

Great experience. I ordered the fried shrimp with coleslaw and potatoes with onions and my wife ordered the fried catfish with mash potatoes and fried okra; both were great. The place was clean and pretty. Good service. We came during Christmas time and they gave us a private room and we're able to fit our group of 21 people with no problem. I literally am shocked about how high of a rating they have, more like dumbfounded! My son and his two friends and myself wanting breakfast. Well, it was 11:00 and they said no at first. It wasn't even busy. After we got our drinks, I honestly wanted to leave had a bad feeling about this place. Waitress came back said yeah we will serve breakfast. Boys got breakfast and I got a philly cheesesteak sandwich which was ridiculously small looked like it was on a hot dog bun. No seasonings or anything it was bland. For the side I wanted their fried green tomatoes which you cannot get them anymore, not even as an appetizer??? Weird. Take it off the menu! So I opted for hashbrown casserole and believe me it was a small ice cream scoop for nothing more. I also got their bean soup with ham it was a half full cup. My son got a crepe. It was a tortilla not a real crape and it was half of a tortilla with it thrown on a plate. It was weird. Crepes are egg batter and very thin, bot a tortilla! It was overpriced. My sons friend got chicken and waffles.... they ran out of syrup?!?! Omg. Again way overpriced. My sons other friend got French toast with 2 over medium eggs and bacon, small portions for the price. I'm not from here, and was expecting a lot better of food and portions for it to be dang near $60.00 and that's not even worth the boys having any soda or anything. They had water and I had a tea. I will never go back! This place should have costed about what waffle house costs not 60.00 it was unreal. I was so upset that they had the nerve to charge that much money for nothing great! Elvira's Cafe was recommended to us by the motel operator in Townsend so we thought we would give it a shot for breakfast. I read the lofty reviews and a short piece about a Russian exchange student who fell in love with the Smoky Mountains, Townsend, TN.....and America. Our visit was around 9:30 a.m. on Palm Sunday, 2021. The parking lot was packed so we were anticipating a long wait. The hostess took our name and informed us that it would be 15 to 20 minutes which made us very happy. We meandered back out to the covered front porch and found plenty of seating facing a spacious front meadow and a beautiful Smoky Mountain Foothill across the road. It was too early for dogwoods but I spotted two redbuds waking up to bloom in the Spring rain. Two elderly border collies roamed free and smiled at diners as they made their way from the parking area. Our front porch experience was cut short by the hostess calling out our name. It was a very fast 10 minutes. Our waitress was pleasant and accommodating. Our food was delivered on the quick side of fast and everything was hot. My scrambled eggs loved the fresh cracked pepper mill. The French Toast (gluten free) was light and perfectly complimented by the maple syrup. What happened next is what prompted my review. A very busy waitress in a red Elvira's sweat shirt began to clean the table next to us. She was obviously happy and smiling and she turned to us and said something about "8 people and 10 people...." I didn't understand but I knew she was not a Tennessean. I asked her what her accent was and she said "Russian." This was Elvira! As busy as she was she responded warmly to my request for a photo with my wife and shared with us how much she loves America. She left us only briefly before returning to our table to remind us to take a copy of the United States Constitution with us when we leave. Our hearts were "on fiya for Elvira." We stopped at Elvira's on our last day visiting the Smoky Mountains and it was our best meal of the trip. In stark contrast to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Elvira's is peacefully nestled in the valley away from the crowds. We sat on the spacious wrap-around deck and I got the mountain omelet while my boyfriend ordered the chicken and waffles. Both were good but the chicken and waffles were phenomenal! Their lunch menu features hamburgers, sandwiches, soup, several side items including interesting ones like pickled beets and fried okra, salads, chicken and waffles. Everything at my table looked fresh and well-prepared, and we all enjoyed our lunch. Service was prompt, and orders were accurate when delivered to the table. They have art of local scenery and t-shirts and other Smokies memorabilia for sale. It's a bit noisy, with an open kitchen. Our waitress came up to us and gave us the daily specials and was reading them off to us and a table next to us & neither table could understand a word she said because she was not speaking directly to any of us.
