It was tasty. A little greasy and messy but good. The onion rings lacked something. They were a little over fried in my opinion. Really good breakfast place. We were staying in a hotel next to Elmer's and decided to give it a try on our last morning in Boise. I had an omelet and my boyfriend had potato pancakes, and we were both very satisfied. Not to mention, the coffee was 100x better than our hotel's coffee. We only go for breakfast, which is served all day. The lunch and dinner dishes we tried are so-so but we haven't tried much so we can't really say. The service is really fantastic and we are regulars. The coffee is good & strong (no espresso drinks) and the breakfast options are plentiful - omelets, pancakes (including German pancakes), benedicts, and of course the standards. I got the avocado Benedict, this was a bad choice. My avocado looked to be days old, it was black and it was not pretty. They tried to cover it up with the sauce and it wasn't covered well. I could hardly finish it. Other than that service was good and food was 'okay'. read more

Our party of 8 waited for 1.5 hours before being seated. The entire time we watched as servers and management allowed a group of 3 people, who were not eating, occupy a 12 seat table for the entire time. After 1.25 hours I asked host if they ever ask people to move to a smaller table to allow seating of larger parties that are on the waiting list, she got the manager who told me she thought asking people to move was rude. Finally our party was seated. Ordered food and things did not improve. Service was slow and inefficient. Four of the orders were delivered to the table, the rest of the orders trickled out so slow we practically ate in shifts. Young Child's order was one of last to arrive at table (child's order was a single pan cake, give me a freaking break) One order was forgotten and came after most were finished eating. One order was cold and another had a hair in the hash browns. The food quality overall is poor, very low quality ingredients. Would not recommend Elmer's; however, people apparently love this place. We have visited Elmer's twice since moving to Boise. The first time was fantastic, we ordered the California Omelet. The service was a bit slow but very friendly, the place was busy so we gave that a pass since our waitress was so nice and kept our coffee hot. Upon our first visit we were given a $10 gift certificate towards our next visit, so we were very compelled to come back and check it out. The second time we came with our teenager, who ordered a burger with bacon and onions no cheese. It came with cheese already melted on it. Our kid doesn't really complain and ate it anyway, but wasn't too happy about it. We ordered a bowl of Vegetable Beef soup each and it tasted like it came from a can. We sent our soups back and left hungry. A hometown place like this should have "from scratch" soups only, not canned. Honestly there is no excuse for canned soup ever. Our waitress was very friendly and we haven't experienced bad service, but the food definitely leaves room for improvement. read more

I thought this place was great for early morning breakfast on a Sunday-about 11 am. The service was excellent, we received our food and it was great. Serving sizes ridicules and over priced. Ordered 2 prime rib dip sandwich's, fries and 2 mimosa's. The mimosa's were 8.00 a piece and the glass was only filled a quarter of the way full three sips and it was gone, picture showed the glass three quarters of the way full. There is no way what the sandwich meat was prime rib, more like cheap roast beef lunch meat and very skimpy mostly just roll and you would never no we where in Idaho home of the potatoes. Because we where lucky to even have fifteen fries on our plates and to pay 12.95 for that. Total bill for two adults and one little boy $48.00 before tip. BS on this place do yourself and your wallet a favor and find someplace else. read more

I've lived in Boise for almost 5 years and I'd never tried this place before but pass by several times a day. My Mom moved here last month and I've been trying to show her some local flavor so we decided to come here for brunch a week or so ago. It was delicious and the service was very friendly. I had the Lemon Poppyseed pancakes with strawberry sauce and cream cheese icing. The lemon flavor was light and fresh without being overpowering. The cream cheese icing was drizzled on without being heavy. We liked our food so much that we went back for dinner this past Sunday. There weren't as many selections for dinner options but what we selected still ended up being very good. I had a bacon cheeseburger with onion rings on it and my Mom had the fish and chips which she said was very good also. Overall it's a nice little place that has good food and isn't too expensive. This, to me, is what a "real breakfast" place should be. A good-sized, old-style restaurant serving a variety of reasonably-priced offerings. I had traditional buttermilk pancakes (stack of 4, large-size) plus delicious side bacon and eggs. $9.99, I think. My wife had the German pancake, a huge plate full of lemon and butter deliciousness. The waitresses had obviously been there awhile, like the restaurant itself, but that's a good thing -- they were pros, knowing how to take care of a lot of customers at once & get everything right in a prompt, efficient manner. That includes the piping hot coffee, which never got more than half empty before a refill came. Went for breakfast at 925 on a Tues. morning. We had an appointment at 11 am so had to be out of there at 1030 or so. We didn't get our food till 1020. The supervisor came out and apologized for the delay and offered to cover our check. We gobbled down our food which was delicious and we were out of there by 1040. So disappointed! Sunday afternoon; 2 adults and 1 child. Our server waited 10 minutes to take our order, even though we were ready (with menus stacked at the edge of the table) before the beverages arrived. She or the hostess had either wandered by or made eye contact with us, three separate times before stopping to take the order. Our food did not arrive until 40 minutes later, and then it showed up without eggs or bacon on the two adult meals. The eggs and bacon arrived 5 minutes after the crepes, but the bacon was overcooked so much that it was dry and gray in color. The scrambled eggs on one plate were so undercooked they were soupy. After seeing DH's eggs actually skating around his plate in a pool of raw egg, I couldn't even gag down my cooked ones. Beware of the server asking if you want "fresh strawberries" on your order of strawberry crepes. I thought she was making absolutely sure that we wanted strawberry, not apple filling. Well, she wasn't. It won't look like the photo in the menu because there is no strawberry sauce; only dry crepes with chopped strawberries and about a tablespoon of powdered sugar and vanilla glaze drizzled over top. I think what's worse than not getting what we ordered and waiting for it for an hour, is that no one cared that we weren't happy with our food. Because we ordered the exact same thing and neither of us ate the exact same things, the server should have immediately identified a problem. Since the food took so long to arrive and we had a show at the Morrison Center to get to, we requested the check when the food was being delivered to the table. It's almost funny... the check is the only thing we didn't have to wait for. Leaving a minimum tip was simply out of respect for the industry (having worked it many years myself), and not an accurate representation of the service or quality we received. We do expect a lot from Elmer's, as we've been loyal customers in two states for over 20 years, but quite honestly, the quality has slowly been diminishing and it won't be long before we give up and start going somewhere else. read more

After 15 minutes of just sitting there with no help, water or drinks we left. Nobody even noticed on our way out. It wasn't even busy. I ate breakfast at Elmer's before I left Boise to head back to AZ last week. I ordered the Crab Benedict. The English muffins were nicely grilled, the eggs perfectly cooked, sauce was creamy and there was enough crab that you could actually taste it The coffee was hot, fresh and delicious. Although the service was very good, my only complaint was my server was wearing so much perfume, it took my breath away each time she came to my table. The pancakea are always perfect, the bacon avocado omelet is amazing, the visits are very good and the gravy (i'm very picky about gravy) is good too. The crepes are quite tasty as well, but I've only tried the sweet ones. The kids breakfast it's very reasonably priced and the portions are good sized. Went there for dinner. I didn't mind the decor or atmosphere, seemed kinda home-style cozy. It wasn't busy when I went there. My girlfriend got the chicken caesar salad. The chicken was flat out awful, tasted like it had been taken from a frozen TV dinner, left out too long, refrozen, and then microwaved. Was barely warm. Rubbery, off taste, and generally unedible. The salad itself was mediocre at best. I got the chicken fried steak. Imagine a truck stop diner where they don't have to care about the quality of their food, where the CFS would be cooked barely to code, swimming in a watery sauce, and lukewarm. Elmer's chicken fried steak was just, and barely just, above that. I ate it, but I didn't like it. The potatoes looked like they were squeezed out of a tube, the vegetables were completely tasteless and undercooked. Overall? $30 down the drain. I was hoping to find a regular spot close to my house to go to. This is not it. read more

Once again, I can't say enough about this amazing restaurant. We revisited Elmer's with a group of Boise State Sigma Chi moms and their sons for Mother's Weekend 2016. The food, service, and prices were such a hit the first time, us moms were more than happy to re-experience Elmer's for a second year in a row. My son had spoken to Candace, the restaurant manager, about accommodating our party for Sunday breakfast. Needless to say, she bent over backwards to help him out and subsequently, made our experience quite enjoyable. Our waitress was also top notch, always there with a smile. The Dungeness Crab BLT Salad is the best salad I have ever eaten. Even if the crab meat was eliminated the salad would still be the best. Both my wife and I got this entree and were very impressed. The menu variety is excellent and the prices very reasonable. read more

My son just started college at Boise State and when I dropped him off for school I saw Elmer's and we decided to give it a try on a Saturday morning. I realize that weekends are a busy time for breakfast restaurants, but they should plan for busy weekends!! We got a table right away but that's the only positive thing that came out of that visit. First our waitress was so unfriendly and spilled hot coffee on the table in front of my son and didn't say a word or clean it up. I had to use our napkins (which she never replaced). The food was cold and overpriced. The sausage patty on my egg dish was hard enough to use as a frisbee. She never asked us how our food was or if she could get us anything else. She just dropped off the bill and that was it. For three people having eggs, hash browns and cold toast it shouldn't cost near $50.00 !!! We've been looking for a good breakfast/lunch place ever since Jerry's closed last year. I guess we just keep looking!!! read more

I have never felt more disrespected at a restaurant. My family hadn't been to Elmer's in quite a few years so we decided to take our Dad there for Father's Day. After a 40 minute wait for a table (which is expected on a holiday) we sat down and were unpleasantly greeted by a waitress who asked my father how he was doing to which he replied, "Good, how are you?" She then repeated exactly what he said an extremely condescending tone and threw our forks and knives on the table. We looked past the rocky start and ordered our food and drinks. When my younger brother fought with our mom about what he was allowed to order, the waitress stepped in and said "Grandma said no...or mom or whatever". When she took my order she decided to make a rude comment about what I was going to be eating. My Dad decided that he would rather spend his Father's Day somewhere else and and spoke to the manager saying that he would like to pay for our drinks and leave. The manager could care less and went to eat at Cracker Barrel instead. read more

As a kid i loved going to elmers...it was like homemade made by my mother.....fast forward 12years they closed the one in my home town...and i moved to boise..another five years go by and i realize boise has an elmers. ..im like woo hoo...the good feeling dosnt last...went in for breakfast..and i gotta say.things have changed...ordered ham eggs and hashbrowns....what a disappointment. ..it was one of the greatest flavorless meals i have ever had....the ham steak was cut breakfast style.and seemed to be equally as thin...it wasnt whole muscle..it was a pressed ham....my don got the crabacaddo...the avacado was inedible under ripe and hard as a rock...his side of fruit ...ohh my gosh. ..the bananna was green....ya green..the grapes were kinda soft and squishy..its like they were old..and it was also the smallest portion of fruit i have ever seen...4.1"slices of pineapple 6tiny grapes and 5 1/2" slices of green bananas...this place has joined the rankes of prefabricated food...bland flavorless food with prices a little above normal....i dont see myself or any of my friends or family stepping foot in elmers ever again...the wait staff was great...friendly and seemed happy...but the kitchen staff seemed disgruntled. ...better keep up with the times or we younger generations will close you...i said one star not for the food..it made me rate and didnt give me another choice quit trying to trick us with menu pictures your photographer is better rhan your cooks read more
