Updated: Our AC went out and I called on a Saturday morning for assistance. A technician came by within an hour and got things running again. Woohoo! Original post went under a random log in for some reason. Reposting. We hired Element to replace our furnace and add central air. This was a large project that involved removing old vents, patching drywall, relocating the furnace from the crawlspace to the attic. It also meant taking out some huge (20"?) piping that had occupied a whole closet. The drywall patches over the old vents were done well and aren't noticeable after painting. Everything is working well and we have inspections scheduled for tomorrow. Everyone was professional and safe during the shelter in place. I ultimately was disappointed a bit though. The closet had a huge hole in the floor from the old piping. They patched it with what looks like leftover wood. I understand it was a difficult spot, but they didn't even ask if I wanted to pay for some quality wood or just leave it undone since I had to get a separate contractor to install a wall to cover the new piping. Ultimately, I'd recommend them, but just be sure to work out details like this ahead of time. read more

This was an extremely fast, yet thorough job. We obtained 3 bids, but Element was the only company whose representative (Caesar) crawled into the attic and under the house to measure ducts and explain a comprehensive plan. On the day of the installation, 8 guys showed up, tarped the house, tore out the old ducts, installed the new ones, added a second return, installed the unit, and completed electrical work in 1 day. The clean up was also very impressive. We passed county inspection on the first try. Price-wise, this was in the middle of the three bids. But we went with Element because of the thoroughness. We were impressed by the knowledge and customer service of César Eduardo who came and assessed our home and provided us with a quote. The work was a lot and he suggested a comprehensive plan and still tried to meet our budget and needs about getting the work done in a timely manner. Element did both structural and less substantive repair after a previous contractor had really messed things up. The team worked for a total of a day and left an in tact, transformed HVAC system. My rating (a 3) is not a reflection on the staff. The installers were courteous and professional as were the workers sent to check on the performance of the equipment. The rating is, rather, a reflection of the equipment. We had a Mitsubishi 2-stage heat pump installed in August. The cooling function met our expectations. When the temperature dropped to the mid-30's and below, the heating function did not meet our expectations. We reported to Element Home Solutions that the heat pump required 3 to 4 hours to reach and then maintain our desired inside temperature when the outside temperature dropped. Maintenance workers came to inspect the unit and let us know that the unit was working as expected. Should you decide to buy a Mitsubishi heat pump you should insure your expectations match reality. read more

This updates my review from 11/10/2020. Bottom Line Up Front: I complained, they fixed the problem with no charge even though it wasn't their fault. This business reads Yelp and they got back to me ASAP. The problem was the thermostat. It may have been mis-wired when initially installed but it turned on the AC compressor at the same time the heater was on. Thus, no heat. I never had AC before so this never came up. EHS replaced the thermostat gratis and it took an hour or so. They said they would be here between 10am and 12pm. Got here at 9:56am and all the work was done by 11:15. So be sure to check the AC and the Heater at the install. "Mack" is your POC if anything goes wrong. Would give five stars but, as I've discussed with "Mack" there needs to be better control of the dust from the fiberglass insulation. "Mack" has since instituted new controls. But that's after my install and subsequent itch-fest. Maybe they should go with the non-itch stuff? So, that's it. And I highly recommend EHS. read more

I got a prompt response to my initial inquiry for an AC install, and Eduardo acted as my point of contact from initial estimate through installation. He did a great job explaining everything to me, and providing options. Unfortunately, the flippers who sold us our house had installed our furnace incorrectly and all the ductwork was the wrong size. Eduardo laid out good options for us to either repair or replace the furnace, and the pros and cons of both. We ended up going for a new furnace, ductwork and adding AC - they were able to install everything in one day. The crew was great, respected COVID protocols and wearing shoe covers whenever they entered our house. Our 3rd party inspection 2 days later was quick and all the work checked out perfectly. Ernest helped us navigate the complexity of updating our hvac system. We had old rigid asbestos air ducts that needed to get replaced. He was able to oversee that and he pointed out that our vents and furnace location was inefficient and caused a lot of noise. Ultimately our furnace was at the end of lifespan too and at the last second we decided to totally upgrade ti a heat pump and he made it happen the night before. I live in a tiny, awkward cottage and had many HVAC professionals shaking their heads. Not Ernest. He was realistic and reassuring in his thorough assessment of the particular challenges. I felt safe with him. And isn't that what we all really need on these big, overwhelming projects? His estimate was emailed to me by the end of that very day and he told me he preferred to communicate by telephone as emails get lost or delayed or forgotten. I had two other companies come out and evaluate what we needed, but in the end we decided to go with Element Home Solutions. I don't usually write reviews, negative or otherwise, but I was so flabbergasted by the way I was treated by the woman who answered the phone today, I just had to do this. I suppose the 5-star reviews are for the technicians, but don't they understand that customer service starts with the first contact? She apparently doesn't get that. I am a property manager in Novato with tons of connections - clients, tenants, colleagues, other vendors. I called and left a message on Tuesday. I got no response. I called again on Thursday. I finally got a response on Friday, so I called back. I have never encountered a vendor who was unwilling to reach out to a tenant. This woman said I needed to have the tenant call her to set up the appointment. I said they shouldn't have to. They are the customer, after all. She said "Maybe you need to find a vendor who can accommodate the way you like to work." I beg your pardon???? Maybe I do. And when I do, you can bet that I'll be referring my clients, tenants, colleagues and other vendors to that HVAC vendor instead of Element Home Solutions. Epic Fail, guys! He is very very professional, very knowledgeable and takes his time to look at each and everything thing before giving recommendations. I could not be more pleased with the services I received from Element Home Solutions. They are the epitome of excellence and have set the bar for the quality of service I will expect from now on (tighten up your game, other companies!). Element was one of three HVAC companies I interviewed to replace our old furnace, as well as install a new AC and an IQ Whole House Air Purifier System. I met with Eduardo, who was to be the actual contractor doing the work as opposed to some random sales guy sent out to pitch prospective clients. I found Eduardo extremely knowledgeable; he thoroughly explained the details of all the work to be done and never tried to upsell me - in fact, he talked me out of unnecessary upgrades (insulation in the interior walls, a higher cost unit that wouldn't give a reasonable return, a pricey whole-house humidifier that could cause problems down the line). He even went beyond that, pointing out that the reason the wall between my laundry room and bedroom had been destroyed was because of an improperly placed duct (moisture was trapped inside the walls), and then offered to replace and redirect the duct outside at no extra cost to me (I would just pay for materials). Amazing! Most other contractors wouldn't care to involve themselves in anything other than the work at hand. He also made arrangements to have asbestos professionally removed by a certified company before installation at an extremely reasonable price, something I got quoted for considerably more from the other two companies. During the time between our meeting and the installation date, I had a ton of questions and concerns (owing to a bit of OCD on my end), but both Mac and Eduardo were extremely responsive to all of them. I definitely felt like they valued me as a customer and were running a tight ship of highly competent individuals. On the day of installation, Eduardo and his team arrived right on time. They got straight down to business, taking care to protect my hardwood floors and clean up their messes as they went along. The installation was a little more complicated than expected, but they didn't ask for more than they quoted - they just bucked up and did the work. It took them the entire day, but they left our house spotless and with a brand new spanking HVAC system. The next day, they called to let me know that they had a contractor who could come by and repair my damaged laundry room wall for me (again, this was a wall they had nothing to do with whatsoever), who also turned out to do excellent work as well. I plan to have him back to tackle on more home repairs and projects. Finally, today I had a professional home inspection done, and my inspector said that the installation of the HVAC system was "excellent" (he mentioned that he often sees installation issues on new systems). Some businesses are like people, they deserve a second chance. This second attempt is much better, so 5 out 5. The other day, the owner of this company reached out to me via yelp messenger and wished to know what happened to my experience and I showed him the estimate and general info regarding this visit. After talking to him on the phone, he offered for a second evaluation/estimate and I agreed. Surprisingly, they had an opening the next day and the window was from 9am-noon. That morning Caesar/Eduardo called the house stating he was going to be early, 8:30 am early. So sort of nice bonus not waiting around for a few hours. Anyways, Eduardo which is his preference instead of Caesar, inspected the attic and asked a few questions. While the previous inspector asked a few questions, Eduardo at least to me gave off a more relaxed and not rushed kinda of vibe. He actually pointed stuff out about out heating system that no one else has brought up, along with a few suggestions and even to my happiness that agreed the initial estimate on the square footage was a possible mistake due to a possible thought that the garage was a living space. The second bid was fairly quick to crunch and send to our email addresses and with that plenty of questions via email and phone calls to the owner. The owner was very informative and friendly in our talks and I appreciated that, even the upfront honesty that our other bid from another company was a very good bid. I called Element because I had a rat issue (yuck!) and they had chewed through 2 year old vents under my house! Jerry came out, looked at my issues and recommended new insulation as well. (I knew when I bought the house it had no insulation in the crawl space and crappy insulation in the attic.) And I decided to bite the bullet and replace the 20 year old furnace. Jerry and Element aslo helped me secure financing for the job from California First/Renew Financial - $0 down and a low fixed rate. I could not have come up with the money out of pocket for the entire job. The financing was so great that I also added an attic fan! We also added a moisture barrier, since they were working under the house anyway and we've had some moisture/water with all the rains. (Moisture barrier was not covered by California First.) The team from Element was amazing - really - they were prompt, professional, courteous and cleaned up after themselves every day. The job was started on time, finished on time and the entire process was E.A.S.Y. He also referred me to an amazing company for rodent-proofing my home and they were also amazing to deal with! Hire this company - they are honest, professional and made the entire process from estimate to install so easy. I'm super excited about how these investments are going to make the home I already love so much more energy efficient - cozy in the winter and cool in the summer! read more

Rarely write reviews but feel compelled to do so here. There are a lot of things to like about Element: 1. Communicative and punctual. Earnest was able to come out the next day at the exact time mentioned. 2. Accommodating. They were able to do my project (replace furnace and AC, all the ducts, moving them up into the attic, new insulation) all in 3 days and they started the project the very next day of accepting contract. They also managed to let me keep the heat on while they worked. This was really important for us as we have a newborn 3. Honest. From the beginning you can feel the honesty. Earnest spent a long time up in the attic (I had multiple quotes from different places and no one spent nearly that much time). He then explained clearly everything he saw and showed pictures of them. His recommendations was also no non-sense. 4.Good service. Their workers were very courteous and careful. For example they vacuum all the dust away everyday before leaving. I think the house ends up cleaner than before they started. read more

We ended up using Element for a pretty major overhaul of our air ducts, insulation and a new furnace. We first reached out to Element and few other HVAC contracts on Yelp using the quote tool to find out who could clean air ducts. This winter with the fires, all the rain, it seemed as if we the family was always sick, also half our house was freezing, the other half was always warm when the heat was on. Everyone got back to our quotes pretty quickly, but Element was really thorough on their responses, asked a lot of questions. Long story short, everyone noticed we had several issues that had nothing to do with cleaning our air ducts. 22 yr old furnace, jammed next to water heater, water heater piping was slowly melting the PVC piping on the furnace, air intakes were on the ground and in weird places, air ducts were all made with Asbestos (awesome!), and our insulations was this shitty old type of insulation that's made out of recycled newspapers. We ended up getting 3 quotes, Element was in the middle price was, but here's what set them apart. 1) Earnest, our project lead, was just really thorough, honest and communicative. He walked us through 2-3 ways they could repair from least to most expensive, he wasn't pushy on any of them, just listed pros & cons 2) He gave lots of pro-tips on how to self-diagnose and fix issues in future 3) They use NO sub-contractors, except for removal of Asbestos which everyone has to use since it's a specially licensed company that has to do it. 4) He promised 2 days of work and they were done in 2 days, and they cleaned up the place big time. 5) He connected me with a great handyman and electrician for future patch up work if needed since they had moved 6) He knew all the county license laws and was just really clear with what steps to follow 7) followed up via text to give us updates and take photos of the improvements. 8) He's just a good dude! 9) ALMOST forgot, they also were one of the few contractors that install this IQ-Air whole home purification system which is awesome, especially since me, my wife and the kids all have allergies! He suggested some upgrades for the future but didn't oversell, just said something to think about down the line. He knew we were NOT expecting to drop the amount of money we had to drop to get fix all these issues. He left us with some more pro-tips on how to get more out of our Nest thermostat, gave us some estimate on cost savings and our home is like a brand new home. It's warms evenly and stays warm longer and the air just feels clean. They were punctual, tidy and respectful of my home and had super-excellent communication.
