Absolutely delicious. I regret not finding this place until the last day in Austin. I was so happy with the prices of everything I ordered. Their chips and extensive salsa selection was amazing. They brought out my food so fast that I was sad that I had to put the chips away. The food was amazing. I ordered more to go because I knew I would crave more a few hours later. The people were friendly and happy to help. I absolutely 100% recommend this place. It will be the first place I visit when I'm in Austin again. read more

El Taquito is my hidden gem. Tucked away on a hill on Riverside, this is my go-to taco joint. My favorite on the menu is the carnitas tacos, loaded up with cilantro and onion. Wash it down with a Pacifico Michelada. Perfection. read more

the food was ok but they gave me the wrong order , i will never come to this place again

Hands down one of my favorite taco places in Austin! Margaritas are really good! Tortillas, both corn and flour are fresh. Tastes like I'm back in Mexico! Service is great! read more

Favorite taco joint in Austin! The al pastor is almost as good as this little Mexican cantina I love in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The tacos are sold singularly around 1.75 a piece. They are served very traditionally with corn tortillas, cilantro, and onions. This little cantina tastes just like the little taco stands around Houston, but much cleaner. :) This place is Central Mexican cuisine, not Ranchero (Tex Mex)- point being that their queso and burritos are not so great. Their salsa verde is spicy, addicting, and pairs perfectly with their savory barbacoa. Also you have to enjoy a glass of horchata or tamarindo aqua frescas with your tacos- delicioso :) This place is very authentic and traditional. Don't go expecting gobs of sour cream and everything covered in cheese, you will be disappointed. read more

Yes! This was my favorite taco place on my road trip through America. I wouldn't mess around too much and just order their four most popular options which I can't remember the names of now. The salsa bar brings a smile to my face, too. These are just really simple and well made tacos. read more

El Taquito - Taco mountain - Mexican Near Me - Austin, Texas

Been loving this place for 3 years and going. Clean, open early, open late, great salsas, great house made agua frescas, al pastor roasted on a spit (not pre-marinated from the meat market and flash sauteed), and best of all: tacos gringas. If you haven't had one before, do it. White jack cheese on tortilla grilled face down on the flat top till crisp and melty topped with meat (your choice). Authentic is a passé term I try not to use in regard to Mexican food, it's common place here and there a lot of good places to get it but El Taquito is consistent and gets high score for the degree of house made items. One gripe: the people taking phone orders sometimes forget certain items exist on their menu; Breakfast Gringas exist and they're killer! read more

This place is the worst taco place in austin. The service is horrible and the manager does NOT care about customers. They cleaned dishes in front of us and it was disgusting. The cashier is rude and she rolled her eyes when we asked for. our order after it had been 30 minutes already. The cashier lied and told us we could only get a small margarita when they were giving everyone else a large. Horrible never going again and my food came out cold. read more

Clean, low key taco joint with great service. They gladly customized our tacos to be vegan and the margaritas and salsa bar were amazing. Price point was right on. read more

Delicious food! The atmosphere on the patio was nice. Friendly staff translated for us Michiganders :) beer was nice and cold.

Wow! These are the best tacos I've had since I relocated from California to Texas! The Al Pastor is A- mazing and I love the Mexican soft drinks in a bottle. Overall very authentic and delicious. I will definitely be coming back! read more

So glad they were open compared to all the other places around that are closed. Food is really good and there natural juices are really fresh. Highly recommend if it's on the go or to eat in. We have a big party and everything came out right. read more

El Taquito easily has the best barbacoa tacos in Austin and their habenero sauce is the best tasting and savory, spicy sauce in Austin. The way they prepare the barbacoa is objectively the best and most authentic. read more

No longer worth driving out your way to visit this establishment. Menu is limited. Atmosphere is dull and depressing. I had the Enchiladas with Red sauce. Again not worth the drive. Now most restaurants have hand sanitizer, forget trying to get some. Eventually I found it behind the the drink display. Risky Business! I don't plan to return. Sorry read more

This place is the real deal, over the top, Mexican goodness that you've been looking for. Perched high on the hill, in scenic east Austin lives the legend of El Taquito. Recently busted in through the door and ordered the 'Especial' which consisted of 6 small taquitos with choice of filling for under six bucks. Al Pastor and Barbacoa filled my plate, and I must say that it was some of the most delicious tacofood I have ever put in my pie-hole. The attention to detail on these little guys was incredible, complete with crushed fresh pineapple on the pork tacos and slivers of avocado on the beef joints. As a side, ordered the 'Queso Fundido' Which was thick and tasty with the orange sauce on the salsa bar. Frankly, after one bite, I just wanted to go home and smack myself right in the face. Mexican food is always grand after a case of the high life, but this place is even fantastic sober! Unlike other yelpers, I did not find the wait for food to be out of control. Visit took place on a Sunday during lunch and the wait for a couple big plates of food was around 10 minutes. Overall, El Taquito is a great way to put food in your stomach anytime, and I can't wait to get back up in that piece to try some other things. read more

WOW! ok. So, I order beef enchiladas with NO cheese and double beans ala charra. It was sooo good. My husband got like a half a lb. of fajita meat and half a lb of pastor meat. Avocado slices and corn tortillas. I normally don't like fajita meat but, this meat was just so good. The flavors were great and it wasn't tough or crunchy. Just perfect. I would def go again and again!!! You'll need to go early or way late because the lunch line will get long but, so worth the wait tho! read more

Best tacos since the ones from Mexico. I loved working here and I also love the food. So I can say that the food is fresh and they makes las aguas frescas from scratch. The fajita gringa and the tripitas tacos are my favorite, a cold horchata or dos equis and your set :) the salsa's are great. If your short on time order ahead, they get reeeaaaaaalllllyyyy busy at night time. Trust me you won't regret it read more

Really good! We did wait a while, but got a free taco for the extra waiting and the staff was really nice. The horchata is OK, not great like other reviewers state. The tacos though are awesome and their warm salsa "quemada" is the best. I am from a border town and this is the closest I have come to authentic Mexican food in Austin. We will be back! P.S. If you really want authentic Mexican food then you can expect that not all the employees will speak perfect English and that is fine by me! read more

Food poisoning... I ordered the mini tacos with Al Pastor and a horchata, should've known when there was no air conditioning in the middle of Texas summer that something would go wrong... When I took a sip of the horchata one of the workers came up to me and asked if it tasted okay, and I glanced over and saw another worker sniffing the clear container with horchata. Thinking that maybe they were just adjusting the sweetness or something I said it tasted fine. Looking back I should've just left the establishment. The tacos tasted pretty good, but both my roommate and I got the runs after eating them. I got full on food poisoning and I drank more horchata (maybe a 5th of the cup) than she did (just a couple sips.) A giant wasp fell into our food halfway through our meal so we left early without finishing the rest of the tacos and horchata. I'm pretty sure if we had finished them, we would've ended up in the hospital or something. Not saying that everyone who comes here will get food poisoning, but it's been a whole week and the only thing my stomach can handle is soup, crackers, and toast. read more

Excellent food and excellent atmosphere. We were passing through and looked up restaurants on the navigation in my Ram Truck and just picked the first one we saw. Glad we did, it was EXCELLENT!!! read more

Food was okay. Tacos are expensive. No servers only a walk up counter. The queso is awful. It's just cheese dip you'd find at a baseball game. There are tons of other better places in Austin. Won't return. read more

Most authentic tacos I've tried in Austin! I always get the tacos de trompo with cilantro and onions. Delicious. Their margaritas are amazing as well, mango with chamoy is my favorite. The only thing is the tacos are a bit overpriced, compared to those in South Texas. read more

Walked in. Restaurant was empty except for 1 person eating at a table and about 5 or 6 employees behind the counter. The above head menu was incomplete so we started to look thru the kiosk menu. We kept looking up into the kitchen to see if anyone was going to acknowledge us so we could ask about the menu and possibly order some food, but after about 7 or 8 minutes no one cared to say "Hi" or "Can we help you?" So, at that point we decided that this place sucked and we walked out. Went across the street to Baby A's. Food wasn't that great but at least the service was way better than this place.... read more

I'm giving four stars to give the benefit of the doubt since we visited on cinco de mayo, likely a very busy night for them. Customer service was ok, it was very slow, and the bathrooms were a wreck. The tacos were ok. We enjoyed the blended margs, probably our favorite part. I would probably rate this lower but again, wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt due to the holiday. read more

Delicious tacos!!! I had al pastor, barbacoa and carnitas tacos. The sauces from the sauce bar all were good. Complimentary chips and salsa along with a beerarita. I definitely recommend this place for some good tacos. read more

The nachos were good, the beans on the nachos were a little plain and needs a little more meat. It was a little bit on the expensive side. Overall it was good. I would possibly come here again. Not the worst but not the best. read more

El taquito was my go to when it came to tacos. After months of not going I finally had the chance to go in today. First off the staff is not friendly, we ordered our food my husband order gringas with pastor and I got the especial plate with bistec and pastor. We noticed that on both of our plates we had large pieces of pastor meat that was raw and uncooked. We gave it back and asked for the meat to be cooked properly. They were mad and fixed it and gave it back to us. I noticed the problem is the quality of meat they buy. Both my bistec and pastor tacos had a lot of pieces of meat with nothing but fat on it. On top of that the tortillas were extremely oily. Was truly disappointed in the service and quality of food. To top it off, the aguas frescas tasted really watered down. read more

I was planning on kayaking lady bird lake but decided I was hungry for lunch and needed some energy before kayaking. Did a quick yelp search and found this gem nearby. I got the fajita taco and carnitas. I felt like the wait was a little long but the food was well worth it when it finally came out! I also got the melon Fresca which tasted very fresh. Definitely worth a stop! read more

delicious! I highly recommend the tacos al pastor or just plain taco's however you like them! majority of the time, almost ALWAYS it comes out so good! plus they're open late night and if perfect for eating out after partying out! read more

This is my second time here at this place and I ordered the Al Pastor plate with corn tortillas, where the hell is the pineapple? The pineapple enhances the spices cooked onto the pork. The overall quality was okay, I've had better Al Pastor plates and tacos in The rio grande valley. Their salsa bar was okay, neither one of the salsas are anywhere near spicy so it was bland to me. I do have to say that the rice and beans are really good so at least you know with every plate you have at least two items that are consistent. The restaurant itself seems a bit dirty, lack of moving air or a/c which I think kind of sucks especially if you come in during the summer. If you're okay with Austin Mexican food then this is your place. But if you grew up with better homemade Mexican food then this is not your place. read more

I was so disillusioned by the Mexican food I had eaten in the state of Texas. It was horrible! And definitely, could never compare to the Mexican food in LA. Until I went to El Taquito that is... This place is legit! Delicious tacos of all kinds! Salsa the way it is supposed to taste, and actual soda bottles versus a soda fountain. Also, can't forget, the avocado that adorns every taco... Gah! Too die for! So "hoorah!" for the 1st decent Mexican food place I've found in Texas. Trust me, it wasn't easy... Oh and btw people, it is not "fajita meat" it's ASADA meat. Get it right you Texans! read more

Was not even eatable. Meat felt old and unclean--in fact the barbacoa I had to toss out completely. Would not recommend.

My sister works for DoorDash and was picking up an order today from there. In these pandemic times and even beyond this, no one should see the cooks not using gloves and wiping their hands on their apron. Also taking their bare hands and dipping it in meat and cheese is not acceptable. If you think the food is good, you might want to know how they are preparing your food. Unacceptable and I will never eat there now. read more

I came here with high expectations after being told how authentic their al pastor tacos were. I learned they cook the meat slowly roasting on the spit, serve them with pineapple, the whole deal. This place is popular too and there was a big line as I entered on a Saturday night around 11pm. I was excited as the best al pastor tacos I've ever had were in Mexico City and were like none I've had anywhere before in the states. What gave me hope here was that this was the first place in the US I've been to that has the pastor meat on the spit. Unfortunately, they weren't even close to the ones I had in Mexico and on all levels. The meat was slightly tough rather than the super tender melting in your mouth meat I had in D.F. The meat was actually a tad cold too. I also noticed that the meat on the spit was not rotating and they did not shave thin slices from the spit. Instead I saw piles of the pastor meat on the fryer in the back which they then transferred to a metal bin that I assume they would pull the meat from to fill the tacos. Was the spit just for show? The pineapple seemed like it came out of a can rather than how I experienced in Mexico with it being on the top of the spit slowly dripping over the meat. The tortillas seemed as if they went straight from the package to the plate rather than home made and lightly grilled. Maybe I was spoiled in Mexico. The meat was thinly sliced directly from the spit and in a few swipes of his knife the man making them would catch the meat and pineapple shavings with the tortilla and not 10 seconds went by before that same taco was on a plate right in front of you to devour. Keep in mind, the place I would get them from there was very busy too. I also got their tripe taco and pozole. The tripe seemed much fresher than the pastor, but was a bit chewier than other tripe I've had. It did have a nice combination of soft and crispy texture. The pozole was a larger portion than I'd expected which was nice. I felt the broth had no depth to it. The hominy tasted good and was the best part. Some of the chunks of meat varied in flavor and tenderness. Some were dry. The best part of the meal was that it only cost $10 for a mini feast so it is a really good value. Their salsas were tasty too. They have a sign up near the register that explains how each order is made from scratch upon ordering and that the wait time will be roughly 15-25 mins. Cool to give the heads up, but I did not feel that what I received tasted fresh and made from scratch other than the tripe. As I noted earlier, the al pastor was room temperature if not cold. I feel bad giving them two stars because it wasn't awful and maybe I was expecting too much. They were relatively nice too, but I've definitely experienced/tasted better. read more

Two words: Barbacoa. Tacos. A must order! These delicious bites of heaven come with the perfect portion of juicy, tender barbacoa with fresh diced white onion and cilantro atop your choice of corn or flour tortilla (I usually order corn) The salsa bar here is also amazing. I usually drench my tacos in the salsa verde for an extra kick. I recommend this place to all my friends and they all love it. Definitely give this place a try! read more

Just your garden-variety, authentic Mexican food. They offer simple tacos, taquitos, and plates. When I say simple, I mean they have straightforward meat, cilantro, and tortilla tacos, not the decked out sauce and topping combinations that some of the more hip taco joints offer. Don't get me wrong though, I am a huge fan of this style of tacos, I just was not overly excited or disappointed by the ones here, which resulted in the three stars. The tacos are really cheap, though, so you can get quite the bang for your buck (unlike at those places with all the sauce and topping combinations). I recommend the bistek "los famosos" tacos, which must be a popular choice, since they are deemed famous. They have onions, cilantro, avocado, and steak meat. Don't even think of putting this taco on a flour tortilla; corn tortillas are the only way to go for this one. A wide variety of aguas frescas are served here, as well as Mexican coca cola made with real cane sugar. With large groups, you can order by the pound instead of by individual tacos, which is a good deal, but no matter what you do, you will most likely have to wait longer to put your order in at the counter than you do to get the taco because they seem to have a disordered style of taking one order at a time, leaving the cashier station unmanned to make tacos or fill drink orders, and then returning to take the next order even though I had thought there was ample staff to be doing everything simultaneously. read more

El Taquito - Bistek "los famosos" + an al pastor - Mexican Near Me - Austin, Texas

Good food. Slow service. Incredibly slow service. I actually zoned out from boredom because it was so slow -- I have no recollection of 20 minutes of my life. That's how slow the service is. How many people do they have back there that it takes 30 minutes at a place where you have to stand to order your food then get up again as they cook it, only to have some of it burned? I doubt I would go back since there are so many other places to try when I visit Austin but at least it was authentic Mexican food. read more
