Good spot the menudo here is probably one of the best I've ever had. I highly recommend if you like menudo. If not then I suggest getting the barbacoa tacos. read more

Great hole in the wall Mexican food! Don't miss this hidden gem. Fresh ingredients that taste great. We tried the cheese enchiladas and carnitas tacos and we are impressed! Definitely stop here! read more

Need to keep up with the salsa bar better. Also the bisteq had gristle. Slow food too.

The best place to eat tacos me and my boyfriend love to go to El Taquito. You have to try chicken fajitas. The juice is very fresh and delicious. I'm definitely big fã of that place!! read more

I came in after seeing this place on Eater's list of 24 tacos to try in Austin. I ordered the Barbacoa taco, al pastor taco, and carnitas taco, fully loaded on corn tortillas. The carnitas was juicy, but lacking any real flavor. The Barbacoa was tender and juicy, with just a small hint of flavor. The al pastor was by far the best of the 3, but not in the category of the best in Austin. The dining room was dirty and the salsa was empty. This place is average at best. read more

Do you want some good real MEXICAN food, come here. This place has the best Mexican food by far, unless your driving to Mexico anytime soon. Sometimes there is a wait, but all is forgotten once those tacos hit your mouth. Al Pastor was was amazing and you have to try their horchatas, very yummy. My son got their enchiladas, and they were very good also. You have to make it out to this place at least once. read more

The food is amazing. Every time I visit Austin I make sure to make a trip here. Love the margaritas as well. If you're in Austin, do your self a favor and make a stop here. read more

Ventured to El Taquito after a long night of celebrating a friend's wedding. Someone in the group recommended going and getting, the "especial". Despite the long wait, we were not disappointed. The especial was amazing. 5 tacos with delicious fajita meat, cilantro, fresh avocado and crumbled queso blanco. Phenomenal. The perfect late night grub...I also liked the salsa bar. read more

We stopped in on Sunday night after checking Yelp for a good place for a 'late' dinner. There were a couple people in line, and the line took forever to move. There was zero urgency by the cashier to get the line moving. We ordered a fajita and caritas plate. The food took a long time to come out, and when it did, it was warm, but not hot. It's too bad, because it was really good! The reason why I gave three stars was because of the wait time and how dirty the place was. We had to clean our own table. Only a couple tables were occupied, and the rest were covered in plates and cups. I saw there was Pico at the salsa bar, but it was gone when I went over. I realize it was 9:30 and they closed at 10 I believe, but why not put more out while you're still open? It looked like they had plenty of staff in the kitchen who were joking around, it's too bad they didn't send someone out to help clean the place up. read more

Found my way here with a big group of friends on a Saturday night after most of our food options on Rainey Street had closed (it was around 2am). Man, were we relieved that this taco joint was open until 3! Although the ratings were good, I was concerned that they may have been skewed by the drunken late-night population (whose standards are substantially lower). I was pleasantly surprised that these tacos really were delicious! I actually think they were the best tacos I enjoyed during my entire visit to Austin, and I wasn't even drunk or very hungry when I had them. The menu looked so appetizing that I couldn't decide between 4-5 options (and my plan to only get one taco quickly expanded into two). Fortunately, the extremely friendly staff guy behind the cash register was happy to offer his recommendations. I ended up getting the fajita beef and the pollo asado, both of which were very tasty. They also have a fun unlimited salsa bar. Bonus!! I only wish that they had labeled some of the salsa that were hard to identify (e.g. the bins other than pico de gallo, cilantro, avocado, etc.) so I didn't have to try them all to know which ones to get for my tacos. It gets a bit packed between 2-3am with drunk people, but that's to be expected from any place open that late! Also, it seems like it would be hard to get here without driving or taking a cab. But, other than that, I'm a big fan! read more

Decent little taco joint - when people from out of town want more authentic Mexican tacos, this is where I send them. Overall though, I've found their meals to be fairly inconsistent - the things I remember being good from last time are not, and the things that I am trying again despite my recollections because they still _sound_ good, end up being than last time. This guessing game has been what's kept me from eating at the little taco more often. read more

El Taquito is tasty authentic clean place w a well designed menu. Ordered carne gusada which was delicious & rice water was not too sweet. The layout for the sauces could be elsewhere because its located where orders are being placed. Telemundo is on all tvs, place was crowded which is always a good sign. read more

This is my go-to for tacos, nachos and some really awesome chicken tortilla soup. The employees mostly speak Spanish so If you don't know Spanish, don't throw a for because they had a hard time understanding you. That's the beauty of this place. Everything is delicious and incredibly affordable and it feels like home. read more

The service is very slow. I went on a Friday night, very late. Few patrons, lots of workers. I ordered 2 tacos and a agua fresca, the tacos took like 40-45 minutes to come out. Everyone,s food was taking a long time and I saw some patrons fall asleep while waiting and i saw a guy at a large table get his order last, all his friends were almost done with their food. i don't think they are operating very efficiently in the kitchen. I can't be the first person to bring this up, owners, please take a good look at how your kitchen is running. read more

There's not very many places I bust out my Spanish in ATX. But at El Taquito, it's only fitting. Their whole staff is bilingual and I always feel treated like family. My fiancé and I come mainly for the drinks. The micheladas and margaritas are the best. Add chile chamoy to a mangorita and it is to die for. Chips and salsa are basically unlimited. Tacos are small but definitely tasty with their variety of salsas. The place is a gem! read more

Stopped by to grab some dinner to go. The wait was about 10 minutes for 3 tacos. I got a Fajitas "Originales", Pollo Asado, and one with Carnitas. I really liked the first. The latter two were respectable, which does mean that they were delicious. I got corn tortillas, which I have to mention did not immediately fall to pieces as soon as any salsa juice got in there. This I am extremely thankful for. They have an open salsa bar for you to top your items as you wish. I tried a couple of them and they were really good. The tacos were good, but you gotta put something else in them to really get the best experience. The bill came out to 5.55. It was enough food. But not the full I'm used to. Next time I'll get at least 4 tacos, probably 5. read more

The tacos here are good but not amazing. I usually get the fajitas originales with cilantro, onion, and avocado. I haven't tried the rice and beans with the plates, but two of my coworkers said they weren't very good. The staff always seems confused and unorganized and getting your food is pretty slow for a place that basically just makes tacos and queso. Overall the food is on par with most taco trucks but you have a place to sit inside and eat lunch. The 6 mini taco combo is always good for lunch. I would have definitely given them at least 4 stars if they didn't stop serving breakfast at 11 AM. I used to frequent the breakfast tacos for lunch, but stopping at 11 killed that. Try the breakfast tacos if you haven't, they are cheap and good. read more

Very authentic! I've had the Barbacoa, pazole, and carnitas and it was all amazing. Would continue to give this place my business.

I use to love this place, but sadly something has changed. No longer are they efficient with their two line drive through. Instead they have reverted to an inefficient 1 line system that takes double the time of other drive throughs. One of my main reasons for coming here was the chips. They use to be served warm and greesy with minimal amount of salt. However now they are served room temperature and overly loaded with salt. At the end of the day, this establishment no longer serves anything that makes it worth dealing with the hassle of the drive through. read more

The food is delicious. no joke. the food lets you down. the problem is the service. The service is SLOW and horrible. the place is not kept clean even though the building is new. pretty much, management issues. not enough employees for the high demand they have. The food is great, but waiting 30 minutes to an hour for your tacos is just not worth the time read more

I wish Yelp had a 2.5 star option. Some good, some bad. We ordered the fajita plate, al carbon plate and enchiladas. Based on the reviews here - we probably would have fared better had we ordered only tacos. The fajitas and al carbon were dry, dry, dry. The tortillas were very definitely store bought flavor. Can't describe it - a little plasticky maybe? Enchilada impact from our friend: "Meh. I've had better." All the salsas were delicious. Try them all! The dining area was very odd. Some high bar style seating around the perimeter and then several low tables. A bit cramped. The metal seats were weird, lightweight and awkward. We sat one of the high bar tables because the low tables were taken and we found ourselves too close to the people behind us. For the price, I guess this place is just alright? We won't return or recommend it. Still looking for our "go-to" Mexican place. read more

The most horrible chicken fajitas of my life. This place makes Taco Bell look like fine Mexican cuisine. Run the other way!!

Gringa Taco is amazing, but it depends on the staff. This can be a really good place if they cook consistently. Weekend are usually best to get good food. read more

They have 2 black cats roaming the back patio. The location seems to be tucked away in a corner. Other than that the tacos were just ok. There wasn't any real flavor other than the avocado on both fajitas. The chicken taco was a step above what you would find at a Taco Bell. The food was just filling. Great if you're trying to get over a hang over. Customer service was ok. They do have quick service. read more

SO GOOD! This randomly popped up while I was searching for lunch. My coworkers said it was super good so we all ordered. All of us were very please with our meal! I read a review where someone was unpleased with the topping being on the side, so I just added "toppings inside tacos" and we have no problems! I will be ordering from here again. I can't wait to taste everything else! read more

Ok so the food was really really good! But the service is below average. We all ate our food but my friend's food didn't come out till way after we were all done. We went to ask two times and they said they would have it out soon. we asked another time and the lady said she had been calling the number but we never heard the number being called. Don't get me wrong, my tacos and margarita were great! But the workers were a little rude. I feel like people who speak Spanish were treated differently/better than those who didn't. I personally speak Spanish and noticed that my non-Spanish speaking friends were treated differently. read more

I lived in the Riverside area for 3 years while I went to college at UT, and I can say that the best Mexican food I've ever had, came from this restaurant. I got introduced to Al Pastor tacos when coming here, and they are now my favorite type of taco! You have to get it with pineapples, onions, and cilantro in order to create the perfect taco. Their bistek and chicken fajita tacos are really good too. And don't get me started on the horchata. I've never had horchata before coming to El Taquito, but now I ask for it whenever I go to a Mexican restaurant. It's that good! One last thing, if you're a fan of salsa, you have to try the bright, vibrant red salsa in the salsa bar. I have no idea what kind of salsa it is, but it's the best salsa I've ever had. Seriously. I wish all Mexican restaurants were like El Taquito. It's fresh, clean, and delicious. Best Mexican restaurant, ever. read more

Within a year so much has changed! I used to love this place because of their awesome prices on a filling amount of food but just recently I've discovered they now charge for avocado and cheese on your food when it used to be a part of the dishes. Additionally the tacos have shrunk! They used to put whole avocado slices on your tacos and now it's half a slice! This is insane! So the prices went up but the proportions got smaller... I'm very disappointed. read more

Pro: The Chicken Enchiladas my mom got were pretty good. Stuffed with lots of chicken & had a flavorful sauce Cons: There were 2-3 other tables when we went before noon for a quick lunch, yet somehow it took over 25 minutes to get our food. We watched several groups come in, order, and get served while we waited. At first, we thought that the enchiladas were taking longer, but it became apparent after about 15 minutes that our food was not coming out. My mom went to the counter to check ETA (because we were actually in a rush) and the waitress only shook her head and didn't say anything or even offer an apology. Fast forward 10 minutes, and they bring an order over to our table, except it was completely the wrong order. They did finally mange to bring over the correct order, but at that point we had less than 15 minutes to eat and get on back to work. The taquitos plate that I ordered was literally 6 tiny tortillas with fajita meat. It looked NOTHING like the nice picture I saw and decided to order from. They tried to say it was because I hadn't ordered it with cheese and avocado, but I simply pointed to the picture on their menu. The waitress then informed me that I had to dress and garnish my own dish, with after everything else was a little ridiculous to me. I paid $7 to make my own plate? and it took over 25 minutes to come out?! Pass, thanks. I will not be coming back Overall: My dish was not worth it. My mom's enchiladas were pretty good, and she ended up sharing with me. We did notice that the rice was cold. My theory is they messed up her plate and tried to remake it hoping we wouldn't notice the time. We would have much preferred they said there was a hold up so we could have ordered something else or at least known. Staff was unhelpful and unapologetic which made an unfortunate situation aggravating enough that I had to share. read more
