El Primo is, well, PRIMO (cousin, in Spanish, but in this case, top quality). Probably the best breakfast taco I've had in Austin. I ordered two - migas on corn and chorizo on corn and only ate the migas taco, which was absolutely to die for (see photo). I'm saving the other one for my husband. When I got there, I parked in the shopping strip, and there was one person ahead of me. I noticed the QR code to order via Toast Tab and figured I would do that while walking over to Once Over to get a coffee. As noted in other reviews, any time I visit Austin, I try a new place for breakfast tacos. Unfortunately, this time, I did not recognize during my search that my family and I had been here before. Even more unfortunate was that I was reminded why I did not care for it the first time. This time I ordered the migas with bacon instead of ham and a taco de pastor with all the trimmings. I was told it would be about 15 minutes. 15 turned into 20 and eventually 30. 30 minutes was an extremely long wait for 2 small, mediocre tacos for almot $9. They lacked seasoning, especially the migas, which also did not have any meat. The pastor was slightly better, but both failed in comparison to other places. I've been a Burrito Factory loyalist for almost 20 years now, but had never tried El Primo before. Only reason we decided to come here is because Burrito Factory was closed on Thanksgiving week. I had three of their tacos, and they were all pretty good. I enjoyed the lengua the most, and also ordered the pastor and asada tacos as well. Pretty simple with cilantro and onion, good sized portions, and overall excellent value. The only reason I give it a 4-star is that there are tastier tacos out there, and Burrito Factory burritos are far superior imo. The EXACT type of breakfast tacos I was looking for. I've been to both Torchys and Taco Deli and El Primo blows them out of the water. What I love about these tacos is that the meat is all chopped and mixed in with the egg. I can't stand when they just add eggs and bacon in a taco. What's the fun in that? It's not much to look at, as an establishment, but the food and prices were great, so the rest will have to suffice! We ordered some breakfast tacos, a torta, and a quesadilla. The quesadilla was mid, but the tacos and torta were full of flavor. There's really nothing better than a breakfast taco. The tacos don't have any fluff (no onion, or cilantro on top) so the star for me was the torta, which was creamy and delicious. They offer a variety of protein options - be sure to try the asada and barbacoa, for sure. The service was okay. They are a cash only establishment, but the website doesn't mention that. When we arrived and found out the only option was to place an order online and pay through the app. This was a longer process, with a longer wait time, but better than not having an option at all. The website only allowed you to pick a time 30 minutes out, but the person taking orders was able to speed that up a bit. We didnt see an option for drinks on their menu, so we ended up going into the nearby coffee shop while we waited. TLDR: I'm not rushing back tomorrow, but for a flavorful, quick, inexpensive breakfast taco, there are 1,000 worse choices in austin. read more

Stopped by on a frigid morning to pick up a few breakfast tacos. I was the only one there and when I ordered, he told me it would be a few minutes. I got two bacon, egg and cheese, one sausage egg and cheese, and one beans and cheese taco. The gentleman quickly prepared my tacos and I was on my way. The El Primo crew was very nice, and I'll probably try it again if I'm in the neighborhood, but the tacos were hit or miss for me. To be completely up front, I did order them and take them home (about a 12-15 min drive), so they weren't 100% fresh when I ate them. I ordered migas, pastor and barbacoa. The migas, which I was most looking forward too, was my least favorite. The eggs seemed dry & over cooked and there wasn't much flavor, so salsa was required. I've heard things about how stuffed the migas tacos are, but it seemed about average, maybe a bit less less compared to my favorite spots. The barbacoa was good. Basic, but the onion and cilantro is really all you need. It had less flavor than some barbacoa I've had, but it was moist and I think the corn tortillas were good; thin but held up to the moisture. I think I would liked a bit more or the richness that beef fat often provides. The pastor was probably my fav, and they were pretty good. A nice savory/peppery flavor, moist, and nicely complemented by the onion and cilantro. I didn't love the salsa, though if I were to choose, I'd go Verde. It has a more fresh flavor to it, good with meat. The Roja was hot I was warned it was a little too hot for my taste. read more

Hard work + determination + passion = living a prosperous life you can be proud of. Apply that to tacos? Well of course I'm down for that! They are known for their breakfast tacos which are always available and they don't disappoint with the well-seasoned egg mixed with the protein served in that warm tortilla. The egg/chorizo and migas/ham/egg breakfast tacos were some of the best breakfast tacos i've had. Also got a lengua taco which was also succulent as the meat was super tender with that grease dripping from the taco when you're about to devour it. The staff is welcoming and full of grace as you can see with the way they take your order and serve it to you with a smile and warm thank you. This truck continues to be a staple for Austin's taco scene and it doesn't surprise me people rave about it and keep returning. In my personal view they have the best tacos in town. I live far away now, but whenever I get the chance I stop by here. The flavor is amazing and I highly recommend adding a combo of the green and spicy red salsa to anything you get. Wow! It's amazing. Yum!! Had a tripe, lengua, and el pastor tacos. My daughter has the quesadilla and was very pleased. It's cash only if you are ordering there, you can also order ahead online, but it's slightly more. Would definitely go again. The tripe was crispy, the lengua has a good chew. They gave you salsa on the side. There are a few different tables to sit at for the food truck. The rumors are true! I was worried the hype surrounding this place would overshadow the food, especially since we went out of our way to come here, but thankfully I was wrong. We got a variety of breakfast tacos as well as an al pastor taco and all of them were fire. It was a pleasant surprise that none of them were too salty either. The only one I probably wouldn't get again is the bean, egg, and cheese taco simply because I realized I'm not a big fan of refried beans (clearly not from Texas). I would also have tried more of the lunch tacos as I really liked the al pastor taco. I also wish their salsas had more of a kick. They only do online orders right now which I usually prefer, but there is a 10% convenience fee upcharge. With tax and tip, our order came out to just over $4 a taco. read more

2-stars = Could've been better and that sums up my recent experience here today at El Primo. It used to be a 4-star place but now it's not as good. Mostly due to their tacos are so surprisingly small now, no longer Primo, but El Petite is more like it. I've known this place for few years and it used to be a great go-to taco place. There was always this young dude cooking - or at the register - and he got to know my faves which were usually Migas or Chorizo with Egg and Cheese. I was a regular here and would come every weekend or bi-weekly, tacos were always large marge and heaping with ingredients. Fast forward - it's been a while since I've been here, but now during the pandemic I was in the area and read up on the recent reviews and went for it again. Different staff, different cook. I got my usual - Migas w/ Ham n Cheese, Migas w/ Cheese, and Egg w/ Chorizo and Cheese. After getting my order I was quite taken back at how small these tacos are now - they have shrunk by at least 30% - no joke. I can palm one of these now w/ my hand, and my hands are normal sized, and I've never been able to do that. You can see past pictures from other Yelpers and I'm telling you - they have shrunk significantly. What's also disappointing is that I didn't get - or taste - any ham in my Migas w/ Ham. So they're not only skimping on the overall size, but short changing the ingredients as well. All 3 tacos were so small and flat that they can hide completely under my iPhone 6 (see pic). I used to eat 2 of these tacos and got pretty full, but today I had 3 and still had room for more (WTF?) ! And my appetite has decreased somewhat since my last visit here (to be honest - aging sucks I tell ya). The taste was good, but nothing out of this world. It's quite disappointing that they reduced the portion size and ingredients. Unfortunately during this pandemic I'm coming across quite of few places that are cutting corners - either with quantity or quality - all the while they raised their prices. That is not good and IMO it's the wrong way to do business because you want to delight your customers and exceed expectations, and nickel-n-diming customers isn't going to make or break the bank (in the grand scheme of things). In the end you will lose customers - and that could break the bank. I call these places the "Pandemic Penny Pinchers" - - and unfortunately El Primo is now one of them. There are plenty of other places to get a good breakfast taco, Granny's is still one of my faves and they are maintaining. I'm not sure if my bad experience was due to a new cook or whatevs - - so I might keep up on their recent reviews and go back to give them another try - but with a different cook. They are definitely not 1-star because it was not a horrible experience and the quality was okay, but they are certainly not as good as they used to be and that's very unfortunate. However, it lacked that deep smokey flavor and charred texture that I usually look for in an al pastor taco. Overall, it was still a solid taco. Austin loves little food trucks and so do I, so when I ended up at El Primo for a breakfast taco I was pretty darn pleased with my friends decision to take us here. This little food truck is right on the side of the road and even though it was down pouring when we arrived, the gentleman working had our tacos made fast and made just the right way. I ended up ordering a breakfast taco with chorizo, cheese, and egg and it was quite possibly the best breakfast taco I have ever had. Always wondered why there was a line, but decided to grab a few tacos to go. Beto (Umberto) who was a one man crew was super nice and must have a phenomenal memory as he took orders and cooked them all on the large griddle. Just the smell of everything got my stomach growling. We got our tacos on flour and all the fillings were cooked and then the tortillas were wrapped solidly against the filling. All breakfast tacos came with a little cheese on them. Here's a rundown: Breakfast: Bacon/Egg Sausage/Egg Migas Lunch: Asada (onions and cilantro) Pastor (onions and cilantro) These 5 tacos were $15 totes. Super tasty tacos and the hot sauce that comes with it has really good bite (I think it's a red sun-dried or roasted chili that has a kick).
