This Mexican restaurant is a solid choice for a casual meal. The food is flavorful and satisfying, with classic dishes done well. (2/5) We stopped in hoping for some great Mexican comfort food, but the nachos left us a little disappointed. While there was plenty of cheese, it was way too much -- almost smothering everything else. There were barely any beans & not enough tomatoes for my personal liking, so the flavor ended up being kind of flat and one-dimensional. The salsa was just okay -- almost mild with only a tiny hint of heat. Service was a bit slow, but our waitress was friendly and the kitchen got the order right, which we appreciated. Overall, not terrible, but not a place we'd go back to for nachos. Overall, place is festive but cold use a deep cleaning.

We found this restaurant while visiting Page, AZ. We walked in and were seated right away. They didn't look too busy at that time. The menu is huge and the tables and chairs are very colorful. We were given chips and salsa right away. For entrees, I got the enchilada suiza and my husband got the seafood fajitas. They were both large portions and tasty. The food came out very quickly as well. If you happen to be in Page, I would say this is a good place to try out.
Mixed Experience at Tapatio - Great Guac, High Prices, and Spotty Service I've visited Tapatio in Page, AZ twice recently with a party of five. Our first visit was generally enjoyable. The fresh guacamole was excellent, and my friends raved about the birria. I ordered the molcajete, but personally didn't care for the flavor profile. Still, the experience was decent overall. The real shock came with the prices. In my opinion, nearly everything on the menu is 25-50% above market value without a noticeable difference in quality. For example, a soft drink costs $4.25 and only includes one refill. One couple in our group--visiting from Europe--suggested we return for a second visit. They don't have a local price reference and aren't as concerned about cost. On our return, the food was similar. Another great $15 bowl of guacamole, and my wife and I split the fajitas for two ($41). A single margarita ran $14. However, service took a major downturn. Our fajitas arrived without tortillas. When I asked, I was told they were on their way. I asked again after a few minutes--same response. Eventually, I turned around and saw seven servers standing around a computer, including ours. My wife finally had to walk to the kitchen herself before the tortillas were brought out. In summary: If you're okay with fairly good food, indifferent service, and inflated prices, this may be the place for you. For me, it was a disappointing return visit and probably our last.
Very pricey! Food quality very average. Service was spotty. Atmosphere was cool. Came here for dinner one night. The restaurant looks pretty cool, whimsical decor. The menu was extensive. Since this is the only restaurant with more affordable prices in town it was crowded. Ordered 2 entrees to share and they were average in terms of quality taste and portion size. I can get the same meal in California for half the price. Service was fast and efficient.
We were looking for a quick dinner before visiting horseshoe bend for sunset, and hoped we'd get in and out of here in time. To our surprise, we were immediately seated, immediately served with chips, salsa, and the most delicious pico de gallo. Our server was super-friendly ("ola amigos!") and more than willing to accommodate our group's special requests. We ordered steak and chicken fajitas for two, and it didn't disappoint; we split between my husband and me, and had plenty left over. (Came with guacamole.) My daughter ordered the crema chicken enchilada, and the plate came out bigger than her head! Seriously, we couldn't stop laughing about how huge the portion was. She declared it the best Mexican food she's ever had, and we've been traveling the SW for a while now. Our other two children ordered chicken enchilada and chicken quesadillas off the kids menu (chicken was extra). All the servers looked like they were having a good time, and twice they came out to sing happy birthday to other patrons. The decor inside is colorful and vibrant, definitely adding to the ambiance. Everything, from the speedy service to the yummy food to the giant portions was above expectations. So we came back the next day and ordered churros and sopapillas to go (hence the styrofoam containers in photos). They were delicious, as we had hoped for, but honestly they didn't taste that different from each other (except the churros had a vanilla filling that elevated them above the sopapillas). Our kids are already asking when we'll be back, so I'd count that as a win!
For this area, El Tapatío seemed like one of the best restaurant choices around. We showed up around 7 PM on Friday night and there was a 20 minute wait. But the wait staff were running around like crazy busing tables immediately and turning the tables over very quickly. We were seated within 20 minutes as promised, and the food was ordered and on our table within the next 10 minutes. They really turn the tables quickly during busy time and everyone was busting their butts. GREAT SERVICE! The food was pretty good for what it's worth and the portion sizes were massive. I did leave there smelling like a Mexican kitchen permeating through my clothes, so they could probably use better ventilation in the dining area. Very cute festive atmosphere. Lots of private booths. Huge menu with every kind of Mexican dish you could want. Great choice if visiting Antelope canyon.
Ok, parking out back is kinda tight, but if you can find a spot, the food and service is great. Our "local" Upper Antelope Canyon guide said this is one of his favorite restaurants in Page, so we gave it a shot. Very "mexico" kind of vibe in the restaurant with colorful tables and chairs plus a crazy large menu - with EVERYTHING! Typical chips and salsa, but they also brought out a small bowl of spicy slaw that i loved. Food was outstanding, but my only complaint (and it's a weak one) is i had a carnitas taco and a carne asada tacos platter and the plate was so hot i couldn't pick my taco up to eat it. I had to lift the edge of my tacos up with a knife to slide a couple of chips between the plate and my food so my food could cool enough to hold it. Food is amazing though and next time I'm in Page, I'm stopping in again.
Not a huge fan of Mexican food but this place was great. Came here as there were not many good choices based on reviews in this small town of Page, Az. Place was loud and had a fun vibe the moment we walked in and the service was friendly and attentive. I had the whole fried fish, mojarra frita and was satisfied. BF had the trio fajita and loved it. We also shared the birria de res (beef soup) and it was fantastic! Portions were perfect and everything was priced reasonably. A good choice in this area.
This place was recommended by the hotel concierge. I should say, this place is good! The service was fast. I noticed they have a lot of staff working from receptionist to waiters. The food came out real hot! The food is good. I ordered the combinaciones biria.. love it. My husband ordered the tacos, he was impressed too. The place is family-oriented! read more

I almost wasn't going to leave a review but decided I should at least give my opinion to warn others... the reviews on yelp seemed solid enough to try this place. Everything was less than mediocre at best. Chips: very stale. Salsa: way too much cilantro (and I like cilantro). Then I order something simple, Veggie Enchiladas. It was composed completely of frozen veggie mix (string beans, lima beans, cauliflower, carrots, etc)! Think high school cafeteria quality. I had almost ordered Veggie Fajitas. I wonder if they would have just dumped this mix into a skillet! The best thing on the plate was the rice. Service was fast but... scolding hot plate (not warm) was merely dropped off at my table without mentioning this. I found this out when I tried to move it. Ouch! Really no reason for it to be this hot. I was never checked on. I don't usually care about this (I'll ask if I need something) but other waiters seemed to be attentive to other tables. I did finally ask another waiter for my check. Lastly, middle of the night wake-up call and my stomach tolerates most things. read more

This was a pretty middle of the road mexican place. The salsa & chips were complimentary but mid quality. I thought it was a little expensive but portions were huge. The decor was vibrant, and we liked how each table was different. Service was quick and the food came out quickly. The veggie enchiladas didn't strike me as authentic with lima beans and celery in them, but they weren't bad. read more
The food was great. They were starting to get busy when we came and it was great to be sitted right away. We ordered regular and blueberry margarita. Had complimentary chips also. Ceviche and Birria was okay. The Grilled food for 2 was huge servings and everything was savory and tasty. The churros though was not okay. The check was placed by the server right away even we didn't have yet the churros. *Note on the receipt a Credit Card fee (if you don't use your card, no fee but need to pay in cash- who brings a cash always ?)even if the bill is more than $100 or should have been considered in the food cost given this area is tourist spot area too. read more

Stop at El Tapatio if you want a legit Southwestern meal experience while in Page. We experienced a 20-minute wait as the place was popular, but the folks working were hustling like you wouldn't believe. It was wild. I ordered the taco salad and enjoyed it. It was kind of weird eating beef while looking at artwork of a cow on the booth, but beyond that, I had a good experience! Reasonable prices too. read more
On our 1st night in Page, we decided to dine here. Service gets 5 stars & very quick on food. The guac is a must! The star of the evening. The steak fajitas were just ok - I wasn't familiar with the marinade and I thought it dried the steak out. My sister said her margarita was good. read more
NO FLAMING FAJITAS! My wife and I stopped in on a Sunday night. Atmosphere was good with colorful decor and good lighting. We ordered the Flaming Tapatio Fajitas because we saw the videos of Fajitas on fire on Yelp. When it came it was not on fire and we were told they don't do that. Huge disappointment. Nothing was cut on the fajitas. We had to cut everything ourselves. We couldn't bit through the meat. Even the shallots were whole and long. I almost choked on one. The drinks were good and huge, which was the only redeeming quality. If we ordered something different it might have been great, but don't expect anything on fire like the videos. Quality otherwise was average. Lower your expectations and you might enjoy it. read more

Honestly some of the best Mexican food and margaritas I've ever had (and I've had a lot)! The service was amazing, and everyone was super friendly. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but would highly recommend the fajitas and Mexican Molcajete. read more

El Tapatio offers delicious Mexican food with generous portions. The service was very friendly and spoke to us in both Spanish and English. We were seated promptly and the food came out pretty quickly, too. The restaurant is colorful and has a lot of painted booth tables and wall decor. It's very lively. The music is cheerful and fun. The guacamole is delicious and has huge chunks of avocado. We loved it but only made it through half of the portion! I had two tacos: the quesabirria and the carnitas. Both were great! My husband had one of the Specials that included chicken, beef and bacon-wrapped shrimp. It was a lot of food, and it was all nicely plated and very tasty. We were super happy with the food and the whole experience! We would definitely recommend eating at El Tapatio. read more

Visited the restaurant after 12 years on its first day of operation! Previous time uploading its first yelp picture of menu. What can I say, nothing had changed.. same good tasty food!!! Good service.. same nice colorful ambiance.. read more
Place was quite busy on a Tuesday night. The decor is very bright and lively. We were seated right away as a party of 5. Bonus points for having a NA beer option! The menu is big and offers lots of options. It is pretty pricey, but at least it's the food was actually pretty good with 2 exceptions. The tripa and the queso fundido app. We ordered: *Shrimp cocktail - very good, like most places...it gets better when you add salt and spice to taste. *oysters - fresh, good taste *campechana tostada - very good and big! No wonder one costs $14 *tripa tacos - disappointed it was mostly fat *queso fundido - VERY runny/greasy plus the only time I've ever ordered it (in US and Mexico where they don't give you tortillas w it) read more

The service alone was 10/10!!! We were seated right away (party of ten). Our server was so nice, funny, and accommodating! The food was amazing! At first we were a little shocked at the prices, but the amount of food you get is insane! So so good! If you're looking for good mexican food in Page, please go here! This place is definitely the hot spot in this very small town. It was PACKED! When we arrived they told us it was going to be about a 30 min wait, they gave us a buzzer and we went to wait in the car. We were called within 10-15min. As soon as we sat down they already had warm chips and salsa waiting at the table. The waiter quickly took our order and our food was out with 10min. Quickest service I've ever experienced. They were non stop! I ordered the veggie burrito and we had the guacamole for appetizer it was delicious. It's more of a chopped avocado salad which o loved. My husband had the alpastor tacos which he said they were really good. Not pictured but it was a huge plate with rice and beans. If you're visit Page AZ I highly recommend. read more

Food came out quickly. It was good and portions are huge. 1 person had a vegetarian plate but the rice has chicken broth- we always check before consuming, so it wasn't eaten by this person. The service in our section seemed fast, except for our table. read more

Here's my rundown Pros: 1. Close to Hyatt Place where we were staying 2. We were seated immediately. 3. Guacamole is delicious 4. Food came out quickly and portions big 5. Friendly staff 6. Colorful place with giant menus Cons: 1. NOT peanut allergy friendly-there are warnings all over the menu and they even use peanut butter in their enchilada sauce, which is odd to us because coming from Texas, we have never experienced this with Tex-Mex, so it was new to us 2. Prices are higher than what you would expect for a restaurant in a town and not a restaurant onsite at a resort. 3. Food was good, not amazing, but the guys finished their plates. As you can see, there are more pros than cons, so maybe it's worth giving it a try, if eating peanuts won't kill you. read more

If there was a 0 star option, I would pick it. I travel the country trying out Mexican joints and this was by far one of, if not the worst I've ever been to. Carne asada tacos came out. They were so greasy I couldn't pick them up for 15 minutes from all the grease being so hot. Shells were soaked and wet from all the grease. Shells were also the cheap soft corn shells you buy at Walmart. Like the exact ones. I finally ate one taco and had to stop there. All the grease was all over my face and just waiting for it to screw my stomach up. I can't believe they even brought out a plate with that much grease on it. Do not recommend. Save your money. read more
