I drop here every time I come to Page. Bbq plate comes out in about 2 minutes. Live music outside is fun. Food is a solid 4.

Wonderful place to get some Texas' style barbecue. They have inside and outside seating to enjoy their scrumptious varieties of BBQ. We ordered the sample plate to have a taste of all the smoked meats ranging from ribs, pulled pork, brisket and spicy sausage(just a little kick). Also came with baked beans and choice of coleslaw or potato salads. Everything is to perfection. services were great and friendly.

I like how they have a good portion sized plate of everything so I can try multiple things. Pork rib is a little dry and I don't like how the brisket is served shredded. Sausage and pulled pork are normal. Potato salad and cole slaw are okay. Apple cobbler with vanilla is good but a little too sweet. It's pretty nice that they have like 14 flavors of ice cream and they change daily. Food comes out pretty quick.

We were here for dinner, the place is easy to find and has private parking. Also you can choose to dine outside. We choose to stay inside. We over ordered, he got one pound flank beaf and i got the full rack of rib! And it's come out instantly as it has been cook or smoking for the whole day. I think the rib is better than the beaf, full of smoking flavor, even i ate 6 bones that's half a rack! Service is great, we packed the leftover and she also packed us with small container of bbq sauce! There are two huge smoker outside the restaurant make the place very authentic! Love it!

We stopped here after a long day of hiking and it did not disappoint. We went between the lunch and dinner hour so there was no wait. The food was good and pricing fair. The ambiance provide a nice place to sit and eat and enjoy the live music. We ordered take-out. I like that you can get a sampler of all their meats including ribs so you can try everything. Next time!

While driving through Page to look for food, it's hard to miss Big John's Texas BBQ as they have their big smokers out front. After a long day of hiking, we stopped in for dinner and had to wait about 30 minutes for a table inside (they had a covered outdoor area with no wait). The service was quick and very hospitable. Inside felt like a locals-only bbq spot and I really liked the overall family-feel. We shared the sampler platter which was plenty of food for the both of us and at a great deal too! Everything was pretty good and I really liked the pulled pork. With the added bbq sauce on the side, you can't go wrong with any of the cuts of meat. We also finished with some peach cobbler which my gf really enjoyed. All in all this is a great local bbq spot to check-out when in Page!

This is 3 orders of cornbread! The waiter gave to the table instead of to each person who ordered.

So this place has great BBQ meat but that's it! Their sides are sub par and just as expensive. I asked waiter if it was really Kraft Mac and Cheese. He said yes it's the kind in a bag that you microwave! Crazy because as good as the BBQ is they should spend some time making good sides from scratch. We ordered the combo plate. The Coleslaw was ok. Brisket was great. Ribs were good. Pulled pork was a little fatty for me. Wine in a plastic cup. $52.00 all in for one combo plate, wine, and one beer. Also our party ordered cornbread and the waiter who was quite curt brought all three orders on one plate with the 3 muffins which confused the table. This was three orders. Waiter should have been friendlier when they automatically add tip since we were a party of 8. He was very impatient. Not cool.

Full rack if baby back ribs were moist and tender .... highly recommend!

Cute restaurant with live music on a Sunday evening out on the patio where many were already seated enjoying dinner around 630pm. Easy to spot from main road and the aroma if smoked meats filled the air from the 2 smokers right out front. Delicious fall-off-the-bone baby back ribs melted in our mouths. Hubby ordered the full rack and we enjoyed each bite... enjoyed ribs with their original, sweet, and spicy BBQ sauces (on table). I had the brisket sandwich with delicious potato salad and country beans. We ordered a corn muffin which was moist and perfect with our meal. Topped off the great meal with rocky road (our favorite) and pistachio almond ice cream. We will definitely be back again!!

Such friendly service and great ribs! Outside of the establishment already lures you in because of the huge smoky grills in the front that smell amazing! They offer three different bbq sauces: spicy, original, and sweet. All three are heavy in fresh pepper, especially the sweet bbq sauce. The original is more tangy. Spicy baked beans are more savory so you can add more bbq sauce to this if that's your preference. It had chunks of brisket ends inside of it and was great! Ribs was the perfect texture of chew! I don't like it when it's too soft and falls off the bone but this one had a great bite to it. They taste great on their own but of course I like slathering them in the sauces they provide at the table. A roll of paper towels are provided on every table Inside is Texas themed and eve has an ice cream display of different tubs like cotton candy and bubble gum ice cream. There were also a few games at the front area. For the peach cobbler, they were very generous with the ice cream portion which was the perfect ratio to the cobbler.

The waiter here was really nice. We got the sampler and the full rack of ribs! When we went, there was no wait. You sit down, waiter comes, and you make your order. I really enjoyed the sampler and would come again for it! This is a family friendly place. People bring their kids and family.

Stumbled upon this place while traveling through Arizona; I grabbed the sampler plate and everything was phenomenal, especially the pork ribs... next time I would get a half rack. Great service from Michael as well. Highly recommend if you are in the area of Page Arizona.

While attending the Page AZ Balloon Regatta street fair, my wife and I saw this restaurant a block away. The smokers in front of the business were active and the smells were delicious! We entered the restaurant and were greeted by the hostess. She seated us inside as we asked. There is outside seating, but it appeared that the smoke was getting blown out there. A live band was setting up on the patio and a crowd was beginning to gather. Looked fun! I ordered the half rack of baby back ribs with cowboy beans and potato salad. My wife had the spicy link hotdog. Both dishes were delicious. The prices for food are a bit high at this restaurant as compared to other bbq places, but this is a tourist area. Higher prices are expected. The portion sizes are pretty slim. Other bbq restaurants I've been to (which ave been numerous) I've had to take home leftovers. Would I return to dine at this restaurant, can't say. There are other restaurants in the area where you get a great value for the price paid. Those places didn't have smoked meat. One other thing, the other meats are shredded. I do not like my brisket shredded, so I didn't order it. If you do, this place will satisfy your taste.

Stopped by Big John's Texas BBQ while on my Southwest trip because BBQ was a must and it did not disappoint. Food: My wife and I split The Sampler (brisket, pulled pork, chicken, two ribs, and coleslaw since they were out of sausage). The pulled pork and ribs were the standouts -- smoky, tender, and full of flavor, and the cinnamon ice cream for dessert was a surprisingly perfect finish. Service: Our server, Michael, was excellent: attentive, friendly, and always checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. Aesthetic: The setup had a great BBQ joint vibe with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, plus an outdoor stage area that looked ready for live bands, the kind of place that makes you want to stay a while and soak in the atmosphere.

The restaurant has lots of seating and feels very laid-back and great for the end of a long day on the lake. I had one of the craft beers, Camp fire kolsch, which was delicious. For food I got the Hot Honey chicken sandwich, grilled- which was fantastic. We ordered a side of fries as the burgers do not come with fries. As for service, our server was very to-the-point, not quite friendly but not rude. It was okay for me because I was ready to be done for the day, but most of our party didn't feel welcomed by our server's attitude and we're all generally easy going. We paid our bill with cash, when our server came back with the receipt he dropped it with us and left with the change. I try to make a point of tipping generously, at least 20% but I'm not really okay with someone helping themselves to a 40% tip. He came back after a few minutes of us sitting there (wondering if he forget or really took off with our change) and gave us our change- we still left 20% for him because maybe it was just a forgetful moment... All in all, good food and drink, service could use some polishing.

There is one couple finishing up and my friend and I in the place. She asked about drinks and I ordered a soda. When I looked at the menu, I realized that the flat Mountain Dew was costing $5. They did replace it and it was fizzy the 2nd time. It was served in a plastic cup....there were condiment holders on the tables....the fast food restaurant kind with sugar and ketchup packets in it. No salt or pepper. We ordered pretty dang expensive food. Now we are the only ones there so you would assume it would be piping hot and fresh. I can tell you it was the worst burger I have had in a long time!! It was supposed to be 1/2 lb. (Not that I wanted it but that was all they had) and it was smaller than a McDonald's quarter pounder. They advertise extra crispy fries that were sort of crunchy but super pale like they weren't really cooked. Thinking they might be microwave fries. Nothing was hot...in fact barely warm. The cheese wasn't melted. Mushrooms were cold. VERY disappointing. Taste was not good. Needless to say mine is going home to chickens. My friend got the fish and chips. Same weird white fries. And meat that looked kind of like chicken fried steak....we think it was fish. They had no tartar sauce so brought a giant dish of Italian dressing. Hers was also barely warm. Drinks were never topped off. The one girls working ( she may have been the cook too?) was friendly enough and polite. She was the best thing the place had going for it. Save your money and get that $19 burger and white fries down the street. Heck even fast food is served hot. Too bad. The atmosphere could be fabulous. This was fancy restaurant ambiance, prices and nothing else. Sad really....but my advice would be DON'T EVEN BOTHER.... Dam Bar is down the street and they never disappoint!!!!

I gave my order to the husband while I went to the lady's restroom. The lady's restroom was clean and orderly with 2 stalls and sufficient supplies. Husband says the same or similar regarding the men's room. Came back and went to the table the husband had picked out. I went over and then veered to the condiments bar. Picked up napkins, plastic silverware, mayo and mustard. Husband had ordered a bacon cheeseburger and fries for him and a salad plus chicken for me. Each agreed to glasses of water. Husband said the fella behind the bar was a nice young guy. Visited just a bit, then the food was brought to us. The burger looked good as well as the fries. Not sure if the husband didn't want catsup or if it wasn't available. The salad was filling and good with lettuce, a small bit of diced red onion, quite a bit of diced celery, and some tomato atop a bed of ribbon sliced lettuce. We ate and looked around, we couldn't see the chef and the bartender had gone to deliver drinks to a people on the outdoor deck. Oddities: 2 salad dressings avail: Ranch or Italian? Have you ever heard of Navajo fry bread? Basically, it's a really simple mix of flour, sugar, salt…read moreand lard that's deep-fried and topped with all manner of sweet and/or savory ingredients. Created around 1864 by the Navajo people using the meager ingredients given to them by the US Government at the time. The bread quickly spread to other tribes throughout the country, and is usually just referred to as "fry bread," but in AZ it's always preceded by the prefix "Navajo." My first encounter with it was in a church parking lot at San Xavier del Bac (aka The White Dove of the Desert), where Native Americans had food stands selling fresh fry bread topped with honey and cinnamon-sugar, as well as savoury toppings like ground beef, lettuce and tomatoes in what's popularly referred to as a Navajo Taco. Fast forward to our recent trip to Page, and we stopped into a little restaurant called Steer 89. It came recommended by a local--and I always take local recs seriously. While perusing the menu they had an item called a Navajo Burger ($15) and my curiosity was piqued. Essentially it's a giant hamburger sandwiched between two fry bread "buns," and I really have to say it was easily the most unique thing I've had all year. The burger itself was terrific, as it was seasoned well, had good beefy flavor and cooked expertly. And it was "run through the garden" with all the veggie accoutrements I demand. The hand-cut fries were also a treasure to behold and were everything a fry should be: fluffy, yet crisp and just a bit overly-salted. Of course, we had to get a Navajo Taco ($12), as well, and it too lived up to the hype of the originals I'd had in that church parking lot. While it was nothing fancy, this was probably one of my favorite meals we had on our recent trip and definitely worthy of multiple repeat visits next time we're in the area.

The navajo taco is basically a piece of the navajo bread, which is a thicker, chewier, airier flatbread topped with taco toppings you'd expect from a taco bell, things like shredded lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, onions and chili. The navajo taco was pretty good if you came in expecting that. It is pretty much an american taco with navajo bread. Overall not an interesting find, but nothing too spectacular or mind blowing.

It moves pretty quickly since the menu, full of fried chicken and staple sides, isn't too complicated. Birdhouse is a counter service establishment so the food doesn't take very long at all to cook and assemble. In our case it took only about 10 minutes. Thigh + Leg, Original ($11) - Instead of the advertised thigh and leg, the meal came with 3 pieces of chicken - one leg and 2 thighs! It wasn't just us; I saw other customers also getting three pieces. Finally a restaurant that underpromises and overdelivers! The breading on the chicken is a really dark golden brown, initially making me assume it was overfried. Biting into the breading, a really strong crunch shatters on the teeth. It's a hard crunch vs. the crisp that a normal fried chicken skin exhibits. Perhaps they enhance the mixture with rice flour and evercrisp? It's really quite amazing especially with how thin the breading looks. Even with the dark color, the interior remains moist and juicy; in fact, upon my first bite, a stream of chicken juice shot up onto my glasses! The meat has clearly been brined as it's super flavorful, and there's plenty of salt and pepper mixed into the breading to add even more oomph. The fat is rendered nicely and everything is served piping hot. They really know what they are doing with their chicken! A meal comes with one side of which we went with the Seasoned Fries. These are crinkle cut fries sprinkled with seasoning salt. The fry level isn't the most even, with some pieces being a little more dried out, but most still having tender interiors. I'd probably go with a different side in the future. (5/5) Thigh + Leg, Honey Butter ($11) - I believe this is literally the same fried chicken but with honey butter melted over the top. It adds some richness and sweetness, but is otherwise the same excellent fried chicken. For the side with this meal, we went with the Broccoli Salad w/ Bacon. It's pieces of crunchy raw broccoli mixed with tiny pieces of bacon in a light creamy dressing with a bit of sweetness. (5/5) Birdhouse makes their sauces in house which they supply for most orders. The first is their special honey mustard which, as the name implies, is sweet and mustardy. The second is a buttermilk ranch, creamy and tangy. It's very fresh and seems to have fresh herbs mixed in. After several days eating bland (but very fresh!) food in the Navajo Nation, we finally had a meal with actual seasoning! We were impressed enough that we went back the next day to try the final chicken flavor. This time it was earlier at 5PM and for some reason the line was even longer! Yet it took less than 5 minutes for the food to arrive. Thigh + Leg, Spicy ($11) - The base chicken is the same texture and flavor as above. The only difference is a liberal dusting of cayenne pepper spice mixture on top. They don't use any hot oil, so it's only dry spice on the outside, applied right after frying so it all sticks on. The powder is spicy enough to heat up the mouth and lips, but isn't enough to get me sweating at all. I'd compare to something between mild and medium at a hot chicken shop. There's just a hint of sweetness in the mixture - I actually wished it was boosted up a bit more. Still great fried chicken though! (5/5) Birdhouse really serves some great fried chicken. Reasonably priced, delicious food, great portions, there's not much more I could ask for. It was so good that we ended up eating here both nights we stayed in Page! Bathrooms - Single unisex room outside on the back side of the restaurant.

This was a great little place for a quick bite as we drove through town…read more It's got a lot of charm, the service was friendly and attentive, and the chicken was pretty tasty. Excellent choice!
