Truly awful experience. Waited 30 minutes for a take out order for 2 because there were 3 large parties ahead. Then they claimed to have messed up our order and had to wait another 10. Went to the car to find out that they gave us the wrong order. Went back in to ask for a refund, told us the owner was in the bathroom, made us wait longer. Also was never offered water or anything else while waiting. The chicken sandwich is a dry piece of chicken breast on a hamburger bun. Burrito is super dry. Salsa is not good. Worse than de taco. It's alright. Wouldn't come here again probably. Portions are massive. Unfortunately, the food is made to be extremely saucy/cheesy and overly rich to make up for the lack of good ingredients. We stopped at El Ranchito today around 4:00 p.m., on our way back to the OC from Lake Tahoe, and were pleasantly surprised. We were looking for some good authentic Mexican food after being in the car for a few hours (with kids). The food and customer service were both great! It was more than we expected. I don't know the gentleman's name who helped us but he was very patient and helpful. We ordered a Chile Colorado, a Borracho Burrito, Classic Nachos and two bean and cheese burrito kids meals. My fishing buddies wouldn't let me forget this mistake that I recommended from the yelp reviews. Let me set the stage me married to a Mexican for 22 years 2 of my fishing buddies 2nd generation Mexican with Mexican wives and one Gringo. There was nothing about this place that resembled real Mexican food or that was palatable. I had the chile rellenos,rice and beans,Gringo 2 carne asada taco's rice beans,the others both had the chile verde green,rice and beans. Everyone thought this wasn't even mediocre Mexican food. To make thing worse 2 of us had to empty out our colon before leaving the place. Then I had to endure 3 days of ribbing over suggesting this place.needless to say someone else was put in charge of finding a place to eat after this debacle. I want to personally thank all the yuppies who have rarely had a decent home cooked meal for leading me astray. read more

Great food at good prices. Newly expanded seating area so no waiting or a short wait. My favorite is the breakfast enchiladas and on weekends they serve home made Menudo. El Ranchito is one of the best restaurants in Bishop where you can receive quality food with amazing customer service. The staff treats their customers like family, which I love. It's a family oriented restaurant with a welcoming vibe. Great prices as well as portions. They're also making many improvements to up the quality, from changing the interior and menus, adding made to order cold pressed juices (YAY) and agua frescas to making their own English muffins. This is a great place to eat in Bishop. It's clean and comfortable with friendly service. We had the camarones al mojo de ajo and pork flautas. Both dishes were really delicious. The sauce on the shrimp was rich and full of flavor, and the flautas tasted so fresh with a nicely spiced filling. read more

Don't go here. If you're looking for decent Mexican check out one of the other places in town. My boyfriend and I just left there, unimpressed and with uneasy stomachs. The chips were good but the salsa tasted like they used canned tomatoes and it was really watery. I ordered the grilled shrimp salad and got a bunch of shrimps with skins and tail on a plate with some chopped tomatoes, onions, cucumbers and a lot of filler with onions and lime. Our group of 12 annually passes through Bishop. This was our first time not having a place to eat (our usual spot became very disappointing) we found El Ranchito on yelp. Immediately called to see if they could accommodate our large group. Ginger answered our call with a sweet welcoming voice told us she would reserve our table. As soon as we arrived we were greeted with a very hospitable staff. The food was fresh and delicious!!! The prices were reasonable. The menu had a great variety of choices. We tried many dishes from denver omelettes to chilaquiles. Not one complaint! Our coffee cups were constantly being refreshed. The environment was clean. The owner didn't even apologize for the service. The is not the first time they have been slow with our food but it is the last time we eat there. Once we found this gem on the main road, we were set for all of our meals. We find that good food is hard to locate in Bishop, so we were thrilled with this warm, family-owned restaurant. Awkward from the kitchen staff was extremely friendly. They reminded you of your typical warm welcoming Asian/ Mexican/ Latino families. I ordered the carnitas plate. My food came out in a timely manner and everything was delicious. The carnitas wasn't over cooked & it was extremely tender. Our waitress brought out 4 different sauces & introduced each one to us.
