I would definitely not recommend this place for travelers. Not only was our waitress on the phone the whole time. The menu's were dirty to the touch. Not sure how clean the kitchen was because my fiancé had a burrito and his stomach was bothering him later. Waitress never came to check on us because she was always on the phone. Ordered to-go and food was ready and hot for pickup however, food was very average. Portions are huge and over sauced. Ordered 2 Chorizo Breakfast Burritos but each burrito is big enough for 2 and came wet (although not in the description...which makes it hard for roadtrip food). Ordered the Breakfast Enchiladas and again big enough for 2 and basically eating scrambled eggs in pepper-marinated sauce. Each came with a side of hash browns that were wet and undercooked. They also have a selection of "aguas" Horchata, tamarindo, piña, and jamaica with a touch of good old American goodness, pancakes and French toast! We sampled this spot for Breakfast lunch and dinner it is very consistent all day long, the staff is extremely friendly consistent with the town the establishment is clean and the seating in comfortable. There is ample parking behind and on the side of the restaurant. It's great to find places like these 300 miles from home but most important after your ciesta you can go play up the road in mammoth or just stay in Bishop and explore its natural beauty enjoy! read more

So my two friends and I went there for lunch today. The service was very poor and slow the food on the other hand we each had some thing different and we were all very disappointed. The chicken was so dry and hard it was tough to eat. I had shredded beef, that was very overcooked and dry my friend had a ground beef tostada and they forgot the beans it was decided that we would never patronize the place again. Came in for dinner around 6pm on a Thursday, plenty of tables available before it started filling up. I ordered the carnitas and al pastor tacos which were amazing, along with the carnitas chimichanga that my friend ordered. The shrimp taco was just okay. This little gem located on the main strip of downtown Bishop will not disappoint. I was raised on a tradition of La Casita down the road, but this new find has me switching. The prices are good and the food is delicious. They start you off right away with super fresh, still hot, tortilla chips and some fresh salsa with a bit of a kick. The waitress we had on our most recent visit was a bit no-nonsense, but I don't mind curt service as long as I am getting what I want. In fact, I prefer it over that sugar coated phoniness (hate those phonies) that is served up at a lot of places. El Ranchito has all the usual menu items as well as some stuff that is a little more rare (i.e. chiliquiles). They also have a section of burgers and more American style dinner food. El Ranchito didn't even exist on Yelp! until now?! Blasphemy! These are the best tortilla chips I have ever had, they are fresh and homemade, and they keep 'em coming. I honestly have thought about them everyday for two weeks now. The chips alone are well worth the trip. I ordered the cheese enchiladas with green sauce. Very good. The sauce was amazing. In fact, all the sauces were amazing. The hot salsa the chips came with was chunky and fresh, obviously homemade. Then, my old man got a burrito and they brought him a trio of sauces with it. All three were excellent, and the verde sauce was different from the verde sauce on my enchilada! And the red sauce that came on his wet burrito was different from the four other sauces on the table as well. So..they have at least 6 different sauces here and they are all excellent. The menu has the usual mexican fare at the usual prices - slightly cheaper, actually. The bean and cheese burrito, which came wet, and was huge, was less than $5. I think my two enchilada combo was around $9. I will absolutely be hitting up El Ranchito every single time I drive through Bishop from now on, and that's a fact! read more

Was in town for the day and stopped in here for breakfast! This place was delicious. Best Mexican food I have had in a long time. The food is all homemade and authentic. I got the Chorizo and eggs. Chorizo mixed with eggs and peppers and I couldn't stop eating it, it was that good. You could tell the corn tortillas where home made and their threes homemade salsas where just the perfect thing to top the food. If you are in town and like Mexican food.
