Usually, my bank will slow down processing credit card transactions when something triggers fraudulent activity. When I did my monthly bill relook, I noticed that the math was not mathing between the receipt that was brought to my table, and the final receipt that was given to me by the cashier. The final bill at the cashier added $1.38 to it. Most of us don't pay attention to what is going on with small amounts like that. The reason why I was able to figure out the difference is because I always photograph the 'table receipt' out of habit, just in case. Well, snapping that photo paid off this time. I don't know what went on with the credit card charge that Carnitas Tio Juan sent to my bank, but it begs the question of whether some questionable charge was attempted on my card. BE VIGILENT!

Are you closing? No, open until 8pm. Just closing section. Management: customers turn away when chairs are up on tables. "Food for Thought"

We stopped by Good Luck Cafe on a Monday morning while waiting for relatives before a nearby…read morecemetery visit, and we're glad we did. This place is a classic El Paso institution--serving up no-frills, satisfying Mexican diner fare that hits the spot. I ordered the machaca burrito, and my daughter went with the chorizo burrito. Both were delicious, flavorful, and generously portioned--exactly what you'd hope for from a neighborhood Mexican cafe. The prices were very reasonable, making this a great value meal. The service was friendly, though understandably a bit slow with how busy the place was. Still, the staff managed the crowd with warmth and efficiency. The atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect from a well-loved local spot--laid-back, packed with regulars, and buzzing with conversation. Even on a Monday morning, the place was full and parking was hard to find, which tells you everything you need to know. The restaurant was clean, welcoming, and had a classic diner vibe that made us feel right at home. It's clear this is a popular go-to for locals--and now, we see why. Would definitely come back next time we're in the area.

The food, especially the double cheeseburger, has always been something I looked forward to. Unfortunately, over the years, both the food quality and the customer service have steadily gone downhill. Today's visit was the final straw. I ordered a double cheeseburger, but instead I was handed a single cheeseburger and told they could give me the second patty later. If I ordered a double cheeseburger, then that's what I expect to receive. I'd much rather wait a few extra minutes for my full order than be given half of it. On top of that, I had to ask for condiments and silverware multiple times. Forgetting once is understandable, but having to remind the staff three times is frustrating and shouldn't happen. I left still hungry because I never got what I actually ordered, and I left disappointed with the overall service. It genuinely saddens me because this restaurant has been a part of my life for years. I really hope management turns things around, because this place used to be great. As of now, I don't plan on coming back anytime soon.

We also ordered the Bacon wrapped Shrimp dinner. Each shrimp had a slice of green chile or jalapeño tucked inside. It was so good! The bed of Spanish rice was like my Nana Lúpe used to make! The website says open until 8pm however when I called to make reservations, I was told they close at 7pm. We arrived within the hour and the ladies and kitchen served us without rushing us. Another couple walked in for dinner 15 min until 7pm. They too were welcomed and served without being rushed.

We ordered the flauta plate with the homemade queso sauce and they truly hit the spot. The cheese is scrumptious. The flautas were freshly made and had the perfect amount of crunch and meat filling. Yum yum. Now, my absolute favorite food item that we ordered was the Tripas Tacos, they were not overly fried to were they are too crunchy or undercooked and gummy. They were perfect and ohhh soo good! The salsa and chips were very good also. The salsa was flavorful but VERY SPICY, I couldn't stop eating it although my whole mouth was on fire! If you don't eat spicy food BEWARE! As far as service goes, our waitress was friendly and greeted us with a smile. She gave us a few item recommendations once we told her it was our first time eating there. Everything she recommended was on point. The atmosphere was ok, it was a relaxed and quiet, granted there were only two other customers when I visited. This place is a hidden gem, nestled inside a small neighborhood and next to a school. If it wasn't for Yelp I wouldn't have known this place existed even though it's been here for 50 years! Definitely give this place a try and enjoy a small piece of El Paso history.
