Factura

Great home-cooked style food, timely and efficient and friendly service, authentic Mexican ambience, yummy menu.

We think we have found our go to Mexican place in the area! Portions were huge and everything was just so delicious and well seasoned. My husband tried the steak quesadilla and I got the chicken burrito Al mexicano, which came packing with plenty of savory chicken, rice, beans, and fried broccoli with mashed garlic cactus. I had to get mine without dairy this time but it was already so good - I can only imagine how extra dreamy it would be with cheese and sour cream. Husband usually isn't a huge fan of Mexican food, but he inhaled his dish and finished mine. Will definitely return to try more of the menu selections.

Mexican restaurants and food in the Sheepshead Bay area has always been quite limited and it's unfortunate that there aren't more considering it's one of my favorite cuisines. (And Taco Bell DOES NOT count folks). I've been going to El Mexicano for many years now on the corner of Avenue U and East 15th Street, but not really because they ever served amazingly delicious food, but more because they were just plain convenient. Being one of the few Mexican restaurants in Sheepshead Bay and probably the only one within the surrounding blocks, El Mexicano always served solid food, but depending if you dined in or picked up, the experience could be painful. The restaurant is very small with just a few tables, but believe it or not, they actually expanded within the last few years. There are 2 flat screen TVs in the restaurant, which are typically turned to the Spanish sports stations. They serve your usual Mexican fare in Tacos, Burritos, Cemitas, Enchiladas, Flautas and misc. meat entrees and it's all reasonably priced. In the past, I've tried their different tacos, burritos and enchiladas and all of it has always been decent. As I usually say, none of it will blow your mind, but it's solid and considering there aren't many Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood, it will do. For some of the tacos, shockingly, in the year 2020, they are still priced at only $2.50, while the more desirable options are priced at $3. Meat options include goat, chicken, beef, salted beef, fried pork, tongue, marinated pork, shrimp and lamb. The meats have always been real fresh and there is plenty of it to fill the tacos. However, the lack of other supplemental ingredients (cilantro, onion, tomato) has always been noticeable. Don't get me wrong, there was some, but just not as much as I've seen from other restaurants. As for the burritos, they are MASSIVE. They definitely don't skimp on any of the ingredients, especially the meat and rice. In addition, they include tomatoes, lettuce and a good dollop of sour cream. However, at times the flavor can be lacking, so its hit or miss. The enchiladas are my wife's go to order here and once again they definitely give you your money's worth. The order always includes 4 enchiladas and a ton of rice and beans. It's actually pretty good and tasty, but the serving can be overwhelming. Overall, the food at El Mexicano is really a hit or miss. I've always liked their tacos and the meats inside, but they skimp on supplemental ingredients. And my note about dining in versus picking up. If you do decide to dine in, be prepared to wait a while as service is very slow at times. On our last visit, my wife and I just waited, waited and waited before we were able to flag down the waitress to take down our orders. The restaurant wasn't too busy, but every time the waitress came out or we got her attention to come over, she was busy doing something else. The food is a solid fix for anyone craving Mexican food, but the lack of attention while dining in can be a turnoff if you're in a hurry.

Hidden gem!!! This place is literally out of sight but once found you will really appreciate everything. Great portions and amazing seasoning and taste. We came here randomly after getting bubble tea because we were hungry. I love Biria tacos and they had that option so I figured why not give it a try. I'm so glad I did because it was BUSSIN lol my girlfriend loved her chicken and we even took half a chicken to go. I think the best part was the price. Outside of the food being really good, our meal was ubder $40. I'm really happy we found this place and will definitely come back.

My go to place for burrito. For less than $20 I got a chicken burrito ranchero, chorizo gordita, and a goat taco. Literally this place could charge so much more the amount they give, but thank god they don't. I order so much without worrying about the price and I end my meal there without feeling NOT like I was cheated, but they were cheated. The burritos are humongous. It was my first time having a gordita and my verdict is that the bread part tastes like chinese fried dough. Wouldn't get it again, but again, I don't feel cheated at all. The gordita was huge as well. Even though it wasn't my cup of tea, I didn't think that I lost anything from trying this dish out. I do wish that my orders are better wrapped in the aluminum because the oils spill out and gets all over the aluminum. If you're slightly on the clean freak side, you'll end up not knowing where to grab. Update: they started doing so! we all love a restaraunt that grows :) The quesadilla tasted like the burrito plus more cheesy flavors. It has the same ingredients inside which is why I said that. I'm use to a two ingredient (one meat, one cheese) quesadilla. 10/10 would recommend this place. For all my local followers, this place is more of a bang for the buck than el gallo taqueria and it's small but tasty pulled pork burritos. In fact, el gallo taqueria's burritos are half the size of el mexicano restraint & coffee inc's. If you're trying mexican food for the first time, come check this place out... or if you're simply craving mexican food then come here and get MORE than your buck's worth

Chicken Quesadilla & Chicken Enchiladas

The food here always hits the spot! This is the only Mexican food nearby avenue u that I really enjoy. They have delicious tacos, but also really good enchiladas and quesadillas. The meats are always seasoned very well and the sauces they provide are spicy and add tons of extra flavor. They are very kind and timely with the orders too. They never messed up my orders or took too long to make food. Definitely support them and check them out

Kevin H.

Definitely a bang for your buck. For $2.50 a taco they give a generous amount of meat and they also include some veggies. The tacos also came with some hot sauce they put into tiny plastic containers. The torta weighed as much as a rock. It was surprising they could fit so much into a roll. Avacado lovers will definitely enjoy the torta here, I felt like they added one whole avocado. Although there was plenty of food, I felt like the flavor was a little bland. The hot sauce that came with the taco was only a little spicy, with no other flavor. The only flavorful part of the torta was the avocados. Everything else kind of blended into each other and was bland. TLDR: A lot of food for an affordable price. The flavor is a bit bland.

Our reservation was for 8:30pm, but we arrived early and Alejandra, the hostess, was incredibly welcoming and accommodating. Even though she was ready to seat us, we decided to hang at the bar until the rest of our party arrived and that was the perfect move. Alkarys behind the bar was top-tier. She recommended the Siempre Reposado, and let me tell you... smooth, clean, dangerously good. If you're into tequila, that's a must. Now let's talk about the food. We ordered the quesadilla, rajas, tamales, tacos, and the queso fundido and every single dish hit. The queso fundido came out bubbling, rich, perfectly melted with that pull you want when you scoop it up. The tamales were moist and packed with flavor, wrapped beautifully and clearly made with care. The rajas had that perfect balance of roasted pepper sweetness and savory depth. The tacos? Authentic, well-seasoned, and layered with flavor, no shortcuts. Even the quesadilla stood out, crispy on the outside with that perfectly melted interior. Everything felt traditional, elevated but still true to its roots. You can taste the authenticity. Service was attentive without being overbearing, the ambiance was super casual and laid back, the kind of Brooklyn spot you pull up to for a real dinner experience, not just a quick bite. Highly recommend this place if you're out and about in Brooklyn. Definitely coming back for the tequila, the queso fundido, and round two of those tacos. I'm gonna try eating at the bar to check out the spot in the front of the house.

4.4 and rounded up. Ambiance 4 stars…read more Food 5 stars. Service 4.3 stars. AMBIANCE: Walking to the restaurant from the subway, it's located on an unassuming block at the corner of 4th St and Havemeyer in Williamsburg, front of store doesn't particularly stand out. Walking in they've decorated with creative, crafty (in a good way) touches--the multitude of ropes draped from the ceiling add dimension to the ceiling and the bar back wall is composed of wood pieces forming a multi-colored herringbone pattern. Textured glass pendant lights hanging from the ceiling throw mini geometric patterns across the dark walls, and vibrant canvas artworks add pictorial interest along the walls. FOOD: YUM. I can see why this place was jam packed on a Saturday night, and reservations are needed. Strong recommendation for their tasting menu at $58 pp, what a delightful meal! 8 sharing dishes and 3 desserts were perfect for a party of five, and drinks are separate though you can add a cocktail pairing for $47. For each main they provide a serving per person, and the desserts are shared. I came hungry and was so full by the end of the meal--everything was delicious! - grapefruit guacamole w/house-made chips: the grapefruit chunks were "meaty" and surprisingly went really well with the guac, it added a different citrus element than the usual lime. Comes with a small bowl of maybe 6-7 chips and we asked for two chips refills since the chips to guac and salsa ratio was low. - spicy faroe islands' salmon tartar: tasty and I liked the latin flavors and corn, snow peas, a touch of wasabi. Flavors of the sesame-soy-truffle-lemon vin and crema got a little muddled. Relatively more "generic" dish of the evening though I was here for it! Any dish with fresh tender salmon, I can't complain. - blue crab and carrot tostada, generous shredded crab salad on top of freshly crisp blue corn tortilla. Topped with pumpkin seeds, dill, cilantro, and saffron-orange aioli. - three cheese & artichoke 'queso fundido': served in a very hot ceramic pot and super melty and delicious, eaten with the fluffy grilled pita and green apple slices + salsa. One of the top picks of the evening. - roasted bone marrow and chorizo, served as tacos with fresh blue corn tortillas, and added a sprinkle of pickled onions--does that sound amazing? Bc it was AAHMAZING. - spicy chipotle-guajillo shimp 'diablo' (not spicy): served with pumpkin tortillas and three accompaniments on the side--mushroom chile crisp, horseradish crema, celery 'salsa macha". Part 2 to make your own tacos was another hit! Our entire table agreed if they sold the sauce for the shrimp we'd all buy it. - heritage pork osso bucco 'carnitas' with Fall-spiced black mole, sour cherry mostardo, calabrian chile pesto: cue drooling now. This part 3 of the tacos was served on pumpkin tortillas; the meat was practically falling off the bone, tender, juicy and flavorful. - buffalo-style com 'elote: sooo good too! A little messier to eat since it comes drizzled with spicy hot sauce butter, feta, lime aioli, cilantro, though totally worth it! - Desserts: --green tea matcha churros: comes with two little pots of spiced mexican chocolate & passion fruit sauce. Warm, sugary and crisp without being too sweet. --pumpkin spiced-vanilla flan: topped with sour cherries, cocoa nibs & toasted seed 'trail mix", if you love flan you'll love this, so smooth and creamy with a bit of crunch and tang from the cherries. --pistachio tres leches cake with cream cheese frosting, raspberry, using an olive oil cake: we all agreed this was probably the best tres leches we've ever had. The pistachio nuttiness and the creaminess from the milks paired well. SERVICE: Very friendly and attentive service though it was very loud in the restaurant and they had to really shout. There was a delay in the middle of our meal I think bc kitchen was slammed, after the entree we waited about 35 min for our desserts. Considering they limited the seating to 2 hours and about half of our party arrived 20 min late, and accounting for the long wait pre-dessert, they did us solid by extending our table time by about an hour in total. Also great that they brought the first dessert out with a candle for my friend's birthday.
