Mandato ofrece rica comida y platillos típicos mexicanos. Mi única observación con este lugar es el ambiente. No hay ambiente. Al entrar, el lugar aparece estar muy oscuro. Más luz alumbra y traería un mejor ambiente familiar. También al entrar al lado derecho hay una altar enorme de la virgen María. Sería bueno considerar poner algo más pequeño para usar ese lugar para mesas y sillas adicionales. Lo que en verdad me incomoda de este lugar es que no hay profesionalismo. Los dueños aparecen ser buena gente, pero yo soy cliente por muchos años y vi desde cuando la señora estaba embarazada, luego nació su bebé y ese restaurante se convirtió en una guardería. Hubo ocasiones donde cargaba el bebe en el canguro mientras tomaba la Orden nuestra. No creo que su bebé que ahora es un niño pequeño debiera de estar en el restaurante todo el día. Los juguetes del niño están allí, la cuna del niño está allí en el restaurant, y el niño tiende a aburrirse y empieza a correr o gritar en el restaurant mientras los clientes comen. No es un lugar para tener a los niños de uno, sería mejor contratar a una niñera así para dar la mejor atención a los clientes y que el ambiente sea cómodo. La última vez que fuimos a este restaurant, la señora vino a tomar nuestra orden y el niño la acompañó queriendo ayudarle a tomar los menús y queriendo nuestra atención. If I could give it Zero Stars I would. The nastiest, saltiest, least fresh Mexican food I've ever had in my life. Don't even bother. It costs an arm and a leg and is inedible. Tinga burrito comes with fries and salad. The fries taste freezer burnt. The tinga is over salted. One bite, then a second to check and into the trash. The guacamole is runny and flavorless. I have no idea how they could even serve that. It splashed on my couch. Straight liquid. And the chips were stale and seemed reheated. $37 in the garbage. 2 tinga burritos and 1 guac. read more

On my last delivery I had to call them when my order did not arrive within the expected time frame & turns out oops they didnt even make it. Arrived an hour late & GrubHub refunded me. Food is delicious and fresh! This is a hole in the wall we stumbled upon on our way to Catrina's a few doors away. Lucky for us Catrina's couldn't seat us. We took a chance here and were not disappointing at all.. Don't let the lack of decor fool you. These cooks are top notch. The skirt steak was like butter which is not an easy feat. We had canned sprite. This is very low key and it's so hard to believe they can produce such delicious food but wow!!! Rice and beans on point too! Another excellent Mexican restaurant around my apartment. How did I get so lucky?!? This place is great for a variety of reasons, but I'll keep it brief and leave it at: 1) the food is great, and authentic! I'm not sure what they put in it (crack, perhaps?) but it is slammin'. 2) delivery is quick - no one likes to wait long for food, especially not if they're prone to getting hangry like I am. This place does not disappoint. 3) the price - you can eat your heart out--figuratively, but perhaps also literally--and it will only cost you about $14-15. I'm extremely bored so here I am leaving reviews on restaurants I grew up eating at. Mandato has the best chorizo hands down and that's a hill I'm willing to die on. They've never let me down. The block they're on has 2 other taquerias that are good as well but they don't compare to Mandato, who also has a grocery next door where you can buy their chorizo. Too many people don't know what TINGA is but they should because even though their grilled chicken is fire, their tinga is even better. I ordered two tostadas from this place an hour and 15 minutes ago and still haven't received them even though I live all of maybe five blocks away from this place. I tried to call the restaurant and the girl who answered only speaks Spanish and hung up on me because I couldn't remember how to say "Food is not here" fast enough. This neighborhood is hardly characterized as a Spanish-speaking enclave. How is this acceptable? How is my food still not here on a Tuesday night at 11:45 at night 15 minutes before they close? Review based upon take-out and pick-up, only: Mandato is the only place within delivery/walking distance of my apartment that's open past midnight, and they are *the* most authentic Mexican in Bay Ridge - hands down. Delicious burritos. Delicious tacos. Delicious quesadillas. Sadly, I originally gave Mandato 5 stars but have had to lower it to 3 stars for 2 key reasons: #1: Their burritos are very hit-or-miss. Sometimes they're down-right orgasmic (5) sometimes they're just "ok" (3). Never bad, keep in mind - just sometimes not 5-star worthy. Depends which day you go, and which chef is working. #2: Even though their take-out menu claims they're open until 2am, when I called at midnight to place an order, they claimed they don't deliver past midnight. I know this isn't true, because I've had them deliver to my place at 1am over a dozen times in the past. When I said I'd gladly pick it up, the woman said "uhhhh... the kitchen is closed". This place just confirms my long-standing belief that those holes-in-the-wall places are the best. Yes, they occasionally make a mistake on an order, and it typically does take an hour for delivery. But I am all forgiveness for their minor flaws. Their food is delicious. BF and I love their tacos, burritos are excellent, and I am a repeat offender of the fried porgy. Love the salad too, that comes with it, the blend of cilantro and vegetables they use. The prices are very decent as well. There was a time we were ordering from there every night! Now we've calmed down a little. The soups, although having good flavor, are too spicy for my. But it is Mexican food, what can I expect. Definitely one of my faves in Bay Ridge. read more

This place is the real deal. It's super cheap, they give you tons of food, and it is quite delicious. Tonight I had a veggie burrito the size of my head and it came with a salad and FRIES. Did I really need fries with that??? Anyway, it's not the best looking place, but everything I've had from here (full disclosure: I'm vegetarian) has been great. As a transplanted Texan I am always on the prowl for even decent Mexican food, so I was happy to stumble upon Mandato while on one of the ordering sites. Well, I have to tell you... it was awesome! The Chorizo Torta and the Carne Echilada Torta were wonderful and spicy and HUGE. I was told, by those who actually got to eat a taco, that they were on point. The tacos came with a side of grilled Nopales and green onion and any time there are nopales I am a happy girl (to be fair I was busy eating the nopales when the tacos disappeared). The guac had a nice bite and plenty of cilantro and the chips were fresh and still fairly warm when they were delivered, seeing as we are 20 blocks away I consider that pretty good. Will definitely be ordering from here again. I'll try to order different things next time and let you know, but the tortas may get in the way... read more

Easy to miss, hole-in-the-wall Mexican spot in Bay Ridge. I initially ordered takeout from this place and was blown away by their tacos. They come with guacamole which is not a typical free add-on. The food at Mandato is very authentic. I lived in Sunset Park for many years (Mexican food heaven) and it's nice to know that I can get the same quality and authenticity in Bay Ridge. Stopped in last week during a snow storm and ordered the spicy chicken soup and carne asada. The soup was nice and spicy! Although, I wish there was more to it than just chicken and broth. I loved the side of warm tortillas, though! The carne asada was phenomenal! The wait times for food can be a bit long but worth it for sure. I wouldn't recommend eating at the actual restaurant, unless you want to be screaming over the constantly blasting Mexican music on the jukebox. Order delivery. read more

My husband and I were walking in the neighborhood in looking for some Mexican restaurant. Now there is a lot of mexican place around the same bloc and all of them have higher reviews (by the hundreds). But we went there because they were playing mexican music and it looks authentic. We have tacos and rice and beans. The black beans there is HANDS DOWN on of the best I have had. It was just spot on and creamy how it suppose to be. My husband tried their special tacos mandato which was a good choice the only thing is that the meat could have been a little bit more tender. Wandered around my neighborhood after dropping off a package at the UPS store in search for brunch. Spotted the colorful pictures outside and decided to try something new. The woman at the counter handed me a menu and I had no idea what to order. On a whim, I ordered the Carne Asada Sandwich which comes with a side of fries. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much from this small store, but the sandwich was really delicious. Smeared with black beans on the top soft bun, layered with thick slides of avocado, and just the right amount of grilled beef, lettuce, tomato, sauce and a small helping of jalapeno, the sandwich really hit the spot. The carne asada tortas are excellent. A great ratio of ingredients. The tacos come with sides of grilled scallions and cactus. The chorizo ha a good kick. The carnitas is flavorful and even includes the skin. This is my go to Mexican joint since moving to the area. They have great prices and are open until at least midnight. read more

Unfriendly owner, waiter and waitress. They were moody and cold. Red flag, but I wanted to give this place a chance. Ordered beef and chicken enchiladas. The plate arrived COLD. Not even warm. I kid you not. Tasteless beef and chicken, rice and beans. I've had way better elsewhere. The waitress NEVER came around to ask how's everything and she was busy texting on her phone. But that's not the worst part. They served chips and a TINY amount of salsa. I requested some more. When I got the check, I was charged $2 for salsa. TWO DOLLARS! Never till this day was I ever charged for more salsa. NEVER. Bottom line. Bad service Cold and boring food Unforgivable charge for salsa Never again and do yourself a favor, AVOID this horrible place. read more

They mentioned it would take 45 minutes to arrive which was expected. However, an hour and 15 minutes later, the food arrived lukewarm, maybe even cool. Came here last week, decided to try this place as its right across the street from Las Margaitas (our regular hangout). Its not the usual decor for a Mexican restaurant, as there's a statue of a saint near the entrance. There's no free tortilla chips with salsa, and the dish sizes are a bit smaller than the other mexican place. Prices might be a little cheaper, but the quality and quantity just doesn't compare to the business across the street. read more

Best damn chicken nachos I've ever had! Now I must tell you that I'm from New Mexico and I grew up on the real deal food. Chile chile and more spicy chile. I was a little hesitant to come on because every time is walk by it was dead. I figure WTH, let me give it a shot. The ambiance is plain, but then again you're not there to eat the ambiance, Are you?
