Was on the hunt for some Mexican food and this popped up. When we entered, the restaurant was a bit dark and the waitress was speaking in Spanish to us. This review is for their delivery orders, ordered dinner tonight and ordered 2 sides of rice and beans and decided to forgo the beans little did I know they would forgo half the rice too. (I was not expecting more rice for less beans... Not the great experience I expected Was recommended to go by a friend, I invited multiple family members to go. There were some mistakes with the food orders when it was brought out which I understand because was a big table. However, when it came to the service I had a terrible experience with the waitress. She barely showed up asking if we needed water or any spoons, plate or anything. We ordered the mixed ceviche tostada, carne asada tostada, and the pork chops with salsa verde. The pork chops came with rice, beans, and tortillas. The portions were large and the prices were decent. I really liked the carne asada tostada. The tostada was crunchy and there was a lot of toppings. The pork chops were a bit dry but there was a lot of salsa verde. I really like their salsa verde since it was actually spicy and not too watery. The green and red sauces were super liquidy unfortunately. The tortillas were also on the dry side. But taste wise, they had that taco taste we so crave: saucy, tangy, with that kick of cilantro and onion taste. The Carne Asada and Pollo Asado came with guac, which you know, makes everything taste better. Ordering can get alittle difficult if spanish is non existent, but it can be worked around. The place gets super packed at dinner time and the ambiance is definitely alittle hectic but hey that's place is bustling with people so you know it's good. The taste is good and the portions are ginormous so you know you get your moneys worth with tasty food. It's going to get real messy, so caution for the white t shirt cause they got sauce on top of sauces. What can go wrong with them rice and beans, and meat like straight up can't mess that combo up. I had Pina colada and a margarita and the the alcohol was so weak and extremely sweet. The guacamole for $7 was very weak. Portions were tiny and they gave a lot of chips for a tiny amount of guacamole. Molcajete $24 has pieces of steak, cactus. sausage, cheese, pork, chicken and shrimp in ranchero sauce-comes with rice and beans. Wow, where have you been all my life Matamoros? As a recent transplant to NY from San Diego, I've been longing for good Mexican food. My housemate told me about this spot and we decided to go together. I got 3 tacos (adobada, carnitas, pollo asada) along with a verde tamale. The meat was tender and flavorful, especially the carnitas. The meal came with a verde and rojo salsa, and I have to say that though it wasn't phenomenal, it definitely did the job. I'm not a huge tamale fan, but the tamale here was pretty moist and tender, overall really tasty. The best part? Tacos were only $1.75 each, while the tamale was $2-something. I met my lady here on a Tuesday around 5pm since she works a few blocks away. After reading a glowing review from Peter D, I figured we couldn't lose. Service was pretty good. We didn't have 1 person, but it seemed like whoever was available came over to take our order, clear plates, deliver food and pick up the check. They were hot, very crispy and dripping with cheese, guacamole & chicken. A great start to the meal. For dinner I ordered beef fajitas which was super filling. A ton of veggies, meat and about 5 or 6 tortillas. It also came with a side of rice, refried beans, pico and guacamole. My date got 2 tacos (carne asada and chicken). They were HUGE and had so much creamy guacamole slathered on top. You just can't lose with that much guacamole. Overall, the meal was filling, hot and very tasty. I'd definitely go back. The only 2 small less than perfect things I noticed was: 1. There were a lot (about 1/4 of the meat) of chicken pieces in my beef fajitas. Don't get me wrong, it tasted great, but if I'm paying extra for beef, I expect to get all beef. 2. The meat & vegetables on the fajitas were super oily. Quesadilla was $8 small tacos start at $2, large at $3, entrees aren't expensive either I just had a bunch of apps. I took some great pictures. It pains my nimble little fingers to do this, but I have to keep it 100 for all of the good people out there relying on Yelp for their important choices in life. Tacos Matamoros has always been my go-to, quick, and all-around favourite taco spot in NYC, but it's just not what it used to be. I've been a happy patron for the better part of my adult life, but my recent order was underwhelming and unlike any experience I've ever had with them. I ordered 6 small Al pastor tacos and a small seafood ceviche for takeout. When I got home, I was shocked to see what was NOT there. I was expecting an aluminum foil abundance of limes and radishes as per usual, and the classic green and red-brown salsas, but to my dismay I was given 3 like wedges and only the spicier red-brown salsa. I tried not to let that sour my dinner, but when I opened the Styrofoam boxes, I realised that they cut corners there too. The, once crispy, perfectly seasoned pork meat was replaced by a characterless soggy facsimile that was not as flavourless as their past tacos. I'm really disappointed in how this most recent experience went, but I hope it was an anomaly. We sat and offered nacho chips and dips. Was good chips. The grilled pork chops rice and beans were good and tender. Chicken and pork tacos were really good. Definitely order their rancheros guacamole. So good and big portion. We ordered virgin pina colada and mango margarita. Both were really good. We enjoyed our dinner and food was good. There are tacos on the menu, and there are Super Tacos on the menu. I don't know who in their right mind would order a non-super taco given the choice, but at the risk of redundancy, I want to tell you that you need a Super Taco in your life. (Preferably al pastor or chorizo, but it's your choice if you want to get an inferior meat.) In addition to just being Super, these thoroughly stuffed, juicy and flavorful tacos come on a 6" flour tortilla* with quesillo, lettuce, pico de gallo, queso fresco & sour cream.
