I stumbled into this spot during a Saturday night stroll through the neighborhood. They have their outdoor seating set up and were complying with social distancing guidelines. Masks are required upon entry, but can be removed once seated. All of the servers and workers in general had on masks and gloves, which was great. We ordered the shrimp ceviche, which was about $12, and some frozen margaritas. The ceviche came with 4 packs of saltine crackers that were a bit stale. I would have also liked a few more pieces of shrimp. They were split in halves so there were probably 4 shrimps total. The margaritas were really good. The strawberry one was definitely made with real strawberry purée and tasted really fresh. I appreciate the efforts made at this establishment and will be back to try more menu items and other drinks. read more

You can't judge a book by its cover, o you can't judge a restaurant on how it looks outside. The colors outside looked very fated, however inside, the colors were so brght. The interior designer probabl had alot of fun! My friend and I came here on a Thursday afternoon around 3pm. Besides us, there was another person dining alone. First came two glasses of water, and complementary chips with sides. We ordered the small Nachos ($4.95)- vegartitan version. A large spinach burrito ($9.95), a combination of steak burrito, torta pollo and taco res. It's basically a chicken sandwich, chicken soup and a small burrito. ($9.95) and a Iced tea ($1.50). The time we spent here to get our food was ridiculous. The drinks were given to us approx. 21 minutes after we sat down and only after we asked for the drinks. Over an hour later, we got our food. The place was not busy at all. I don't think anyone should have to wait over an hour for just okay food. The music kept skipping and it's volume kept increasing and decreasing. It wasn't very pleasant. EDIT: after over an hour wait, the waitress gave me the wrong order... EDIT AGAIN: once we received our bill, we were overcharged for our drinks. We were also charged 18% tip which I don't think it was well earned. This might have explained the bad service. In addition, they wanted to charge me 4% processing fee to pay via credit card. So this place is nice. It's okay. You can make reservations. There's a bar and bigger seating/ eating space for about 60-75 people or more in the back off to the side in a semi secluded area of the main restaurant space (I know a tongue twister). My sister-in-law and her brother- my husband made reservations for 20 of us to celebrate their father's 76th birthday. Anyways, the ambiance is nice and it is family oriented. There are diverse customers here - from African American, Indian, Asian... everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves tonight. We came with about 20 family members tonight adult and kids. It's a kid friendly restaurant. The Mariachis start playing their instruments from about 8pm until 12am. The music was good. I enjoyed all of the music they played. The mariachis also sung happy birthday to their dad. He was very sentimental after the mariachis performance. Now on to the food: According to most of the family members, one being my daughter, some of the food needed a little bit more seasoning but other than that the food was good. I love the jarrito drinks. If you never had a Jarrito try the orange flavor. You can actually find that in any family run Mexican corner store. Basically it's similar to any other orange soda... The food on the lower end from what I saw in the menu- for $10 you can get a simple salad with avocados, or some tacos, or for like $17 you can get a pollo y rice dish with beans. On the higher end I didn't bother looking at anything passed 17 bucks so I can't comment on other dish prices. My bf and I first ate here last year after deciding Cinco de Mayo just wasn't up to par, and it has become our favorite local spot for Mexican. The decor is very surreal and colorful, like being inside a pinata, and the sangria was good. We tried a bunch of different things, most of which were above average and all of which seemed more authentic than most Mexican places I've been. Two polar opposite things worth mentioning: 1) GOAT TACOS!! Outstanding. Perfectly cooked, buttery roast goat, topped with just a bit of fresh cilantro and chopped onion in fresh tortillas - the flavor of the goat is so good that these tacos really need nothing else. Our #1 favorite and the main reason for rating this place highly. 2) Pork stew tacos - not good. We each tried this expecting, I don't know, some stewed pork inside a taco. What we got was some kind of pork-flavored gelatin that had no actual meat in it at all. We both hated the texture and could not eat these. I don't mean this as a criticism to Los Mariachis, as I'm assuming this is probably a very authentic dish which our gringo palates just couldn't handle, but I thought it worth mentioning. Ever since that first visit, we've gotten delivery which is fast, accurate and always comes with sides of pickled jalapenos, guacamole, and if you get an actual dinner, refried beans and rice. I love this place! Didn't really know what to expect coming here because of the mixed reviews but I was pleasantly surprised. The guacamole was delicious and so was the crispy chips that come along with it. The server was very friendly and attentive. I also love their quesadilla, the wrap is fried and ohh so delicious! The inside comes with lettuce, tomatoes, chicken and cheese. I wanted to eat a bunch of quesadillas, but I stopped myself to make room for the tamale which was also tasty. We just wandered in off the street and didn't know what we were getting ourselves into until we walked in--needless to say we will definitely be traveling out of our way to come here again. How could anyone possibly give this place less than 5 stars? So good and really spectacular and super inexpensive for how over the top good it was. The place itself is also stunningly beautiful, the people who work there are nice, and the food is presented with a certain theatricality that is beautiful and really makes the food feel special. I may not be in the service industry, nor do I have my own restaurant. I do however, STRONGLY believe that when consuming edibles at an establishment one should not receive HAIR in their food. Should a customer happen upon that (as I did), it IS customary for the manager to make his/her way out to apologize and remove the price for the item that had the hair in it. Not only did the manager NEVER come to our table...we were only offered drinks (we didn't want another drink). Hair was found in two (yes, I said 2) of our dishes! Unless you like eating hair from a complete stranger in your food and bad Mariachi (their instruments were beautiful to look at though), I'd say RUN to Los Mariachis. Worst Mexican food I've ever had. Dry tacos, overpriced chips and salsa, and burrito with a weird spaghetti sauce

Um, I'm really confused about what just happened. Recap: Went on Seamless and searched for some new takeout options in my area. Came across this restaurant and decided to order from here. Our order: 2 large soft steak tacos - They are so tiny, my Dad is pissed. Shrimp cocktail - I really don't even know what this was; it was more like a soup involving diced avocados and mushy shavings of shrimp, I don't understand. Shredded chicken taco - The only subpar part of our order, it was okay. Chicken tostada - It looked old and sad. Mexican pizza - It was part of the combination I ordered and as I've been wondering for several years, I'm not even sure why this concoction exists. Linguine with clams - My boyfriend really enjoyed the pasta, but claims that the clams taste "dirty", whatever that means. This order came to around 50 bucks and it saddens me to realize that I could have spent less than half of that money at Yummy Taco on Church Avenue and been far happier. They also sent 4 packs of Premium crackers with our order - WHY and FOR WHAT? Never again. read more

A little random, a little out of the way, the decor was colorful but not necessarily cozy.... a bit garish you might say. The chips and salsa platter and guacamole was excellent but the rest of the food was only just ok. My fish taco had bones in it and was a bit 'fishier' than I would have liked. My chicken burrito was ok... didn't have quite the flavors I was looking for. I wasn't bowled over by the look or taste of any of the food my friends ordered, either. Beware: though certain items on the menu are cheap, our bill came to over $300! They charge almost $10 for a margarita (!!) and many dinner items are $17-$20. I really think this place is about a 4 to 4.5. But I'm puzzled by the other reviewer (Peter D): he admits he went there often and had a good time, then after 1 bad experience dings them w/ a 2. Then others don't go there and so it's self-perpetuating. So I figure if more people go there, as they should, a consensus will be reached. I've been there 4 or 5 times, and basically I think this is very good Mexican food. It's on a desolate stretch of Coney Island Ave (redundant, I realize), but the inside is warm and, literally, very colorful. There are usually many Latin American types there, and I suspect they know more about this cuisine than I do. While I haven't sampled a wide range of the menu, I've had nice experiences, and I'm guessing it's more authentic than Rosa Mexicano. read more

The service was horrible, we waited 1 hour for our meals. The waitress didn't even check up on us or offer a free drink for being so patient (I had them take our drinks off of the bill in the end) . First of all, I don't understand why people loved the guacamole, we thought it was bland, it needed salt. I tried ordering a combination the same way I do at most places, but they won't let you, I should've left at that point knowing it was going to be a bad night. Apparently, a chile relleno is a separate dish and can't be part of the combo. I go to Mexican restaurants all the time and that was a first for me. The combinations themselves include rice and beans, but not on the side like most respectable places, they stuff it into the burrito like a side of the road lunch truck might serve it! The quesadilla was fried in this god awful thick dough....yuck! One more important thing for me was the obvious lack of a good hot sauce on the table, the only thing they had was some watered down bland not spicy homemade crap! Most places offer you the red or green stuff that comes in bottles, not something you have to spoon out. Before I forget, they have a TV on in the background, what kind of dining experience is that?!?!? If you want some of the best and affordable down home Mexican cuisine, I whole heartedly recommend Rancho Allegre in Park Slope (204 Garfield place, off of 7th ave), you won't be disappointed! I went to Los Mariachis with a couple of girlfriends, had a great time, and I probably will be back, but there were some issues... The food was marginally adequate. The tamales lacked flavor. I loved the guacamole, though. I had a basic roast chicken dish, and again, found it to be dry and uninspired. The waitress seemed to disappear from time to time, and so service was sketchy, but friendly. So why will I return? First off, it's nice to go to a local, fairly reasonably priced restaurant that doesn't rush you out the door, let 's you party with your friends, and has cool, live Mariachi musicians serenading you at your table. The musicians were all attired in traditional Mariachi garb, they sang and performed very well, and it was just plain fun. Maybe next time I will try the seafood dishes. I don't know why there are so many bad reviews. I live a couple blocks away on Cortelyou (near Cinco de Mayo, I think they're tied for quality, but good at different things) and we have eaten here and gotten takeout numerous times. Eating in is kind of fun, it's like a Mexican psychedelic lounge. LOTS of colors. The food is good, dependable, and I think well priced, though it's not dirt cheap. A few favorites: The nachos (NOT YOUR TYPICAL NACHOS, they are individual tortilla chips with cheese and bean and chorizo and guacamole, if you're expecting the usual mass of chips with tons of stuff you will be disappointed - go to 5 de mayo for these) are delicious, chilquiles are very solid, my boyfriend loves the burrito, the tamales are quite good, and the enchiladas tasty. Mole good on anything! And the "special guacamole" is worth it. read more

I rarely get out of my way to write a really good review, but I've been coming to this place with my husband for our date nights since March once a month and we really love it. The food is so good and the prices are nice too. The servers are always extra nice and we never had a problem. They have a little outside area for the summer that we really enjoy. Last Friday was my second visit to Los Mariachi's and I was again impressed with the food and the environment. The colorful décor and the traditional attire of the waitresses and mariachi band (that plays on Friday evenings) contribute to the feeling that you've stepped through a portal and left Brooklyn. Of course, if the food was only average it might not be something to do twice, but I have definite plans for future visits. One real advantage of having seven children is that I get to sample a variety of items off of a menu. One real disadvantage is the affect this has on my waistline. However, for purposes of this review, I can tell you my impression of the following: Nachos - very good; Fried chorizo - very good Platano maduro - excellent Chicken burrito - excellent Quesidilla - excellent Shrimp in garlic sauce - excellent All of the kids (age 5-18) were very happy with the food and look forward to going back. The mariachis were also rather impressive. They were not five guys who were looking to make some extra money playing mariachi, but they were professional musicians and were pleasantly non-intrusive.
