I really did not know what to expect from this place. Especially since I really haven't heard of it before and when I drove past it's just in this random parking lot with other businesses. Yet, they have an incredible rating on yelp (after giving them a try, the good rating is very deserved) The staff and food are incredible 5 stars right off the bat (As far as atmosphere? There's nothing wrong with it. Nothing fancy, just your regular locally owned and ran burrito place that does a lot of take out. It was really clean) It's a build your own. So kind of like chipotle but 100000 times better I ended up getting the boss burrito (build your own. Birria, beans, rice, cheese and lettuce. I also got it wet style) We also got the chicken enchiladas Chips and salsa are not included, we ordered two orders of chips and salsa They have a kids menu They have a breakfast menu that is served all day They also have different sodas and etc in the fridge They even have hot dogs, onion rings, burgers and etc if you don't feel like a burrito (Even though I highly recommend the Mexican food route) The prices are really good as well. I did have to pay more for the Birria in the burrito but it was still cheap in my opinion and everything tasted fresh. It was clearly worth the money It's been a little bit of a tradition that I get a burrito after I recover from surgery. With that being said, I wish I could have stood up and gotten some videos of them doing the - build your own process. The food behind the counter all looked extremely clean. I wasn't able to stand there for very long to even see all the options. I already know I have to come back because, I - it was delicious 2- I need to get more pics of inside the burritos It's in a shopping center but does have private parking. After you order you pay at the counter and get your food. Esteban and victor were the greatest. I don't know if they were the owners (it's owned by two brothers) They have a few tables inside I do think their main source is take out. I really can't stress how fresh everything tasted and they were cooking nonstop. The meat, beans, rice and etc all were extremely fresh, not greasy and were not overpowered by salt. Sometimes the refried beans (this place had a couple bean options. I did get black beans but I tried my friends refried beans from her enchiladas) can especially have that overly salted taste. But not here, it was literally perfect They also had a couple different salsa options that tasted really fresh and homemade (that come with chips or with your food) then they also have your standard hot sauce in the bottles at the tables along with napkins and etc They also have specials and they have TVs in here. I went on a bean and cheese burrito kick a few years ago and remember this one beating out all the others I'd tried by a long shot, and finally got around to coming back to this place! Got the bean and cheese again and it's JUST as good as I remember! The tortilla is nice and soft, buttery, and well grilled. The bean and cheese is salty, smooth, with nice and melty cheesy goodness. So simple but so well done! They have lots of tasty sauces on the side too - we loved the cilantro and the chipotle mayo sauce. We also tried their new quesabirria tacos which were freshly grilled. Meat was tender and nicely favored, but wish it came with a side of consome for dipping! I def recommend this spot in Long Beach located near cherry and Anaheim. I would describe this as a chipotle dupe serving real Mexican food. They have all the Mexican goodies bowls, burritos , quesadillas , tortas , fries etc . Plus they have great toppings including queso fresco , chipotle sauce , and guac . obviously they have other great topping but those stood out to me. additionally, they have the option for red Mexican rice! I ordered both the fries and bowl with Al pasto and carnitas. Both meats were very tasty . The al pastor tasted like carne adobada and the carnitas were carnitas . the portions here were great , I definitely was able to get full off one plate . little note , if you're getting the fries to go , as for the fries on the side . it was just too much grease in the bowl with the fries and the meat ! nonetheless, the food was still really and fresh ! I had an online meeting to attend and needed lunch delivered, so I opt in for an online order. The chicken taco salad was full of ingredients you actually get to customize side toppings to be included in your salad beside your meat which is a define plus. I selected chicken and found the salad to be delicious. On the other-hand I found the actual shell seemed to exist only around the perimeter of this salad. The taquitos (Qty3) the fried tortillas were filled with a large portion of dry unseasoned dry chicken meat. I came here for Cinco de Mayo and got the Surf and Turf burrito, a potato Taco and the Pineapple drink. You get to pick and choose your ingredients and they are very generous about how much the put inside your burritos. Everything tasted freshly cooked and they had 4 kinds of hot sauce at the table to enhance the flavors. I was very happy with my food. I appreciate that someone came to check up on us while we were eating. El Jefe is a small joint that would probably fit less than 20 people. Came here on a Saturday around 10am no wait to order. Plenty of seating one tv. Sauces on tables. And canned and bottle drinks. No restroom from what I saw small parking lot. Ordered the small breakfast burrito it was good and eggs made there and then. The small al pastor burrito was good too. Its like a cafeteria style so you choose what sauces veggies and protein you want. Ordered the Jamaica agua fresca it was refreshing not too sweet. You basically build your own meal the way you like it. No more removing items that you dislike. The proteins are cooked to perfection as you order so its freshly made not sitting in a tray waiting to be used. The staff is friendly and patient, while explaining the process to customers. With only a few tables available inside you might have to wait. Many choose to go orders. Ice cold beverages are available along with Agua Fresca in 3 flavors. I got the Surf and Turf burrito. It was all right. It was a little on the wet side and could have used a little better balance of ingredients so that it wasn't so soupy. It got the job done. It was steak, it was shrimp, checked those boxes. I got the hottest hot sauce they had and it could have been hotter. Also, it was over $20 for the burrito after tax and a modest tip. I know things are getting more expensive these days, but that was maybe $3 higher than I was expecting. Parking is a little tough. They have a private lot, but at lunchtime it fills up pretty fast. I might try another one of their burritos that isn't a Surf and Turf just to give them another try. Long Beach has a lot of great burrito options. This place used to be called The Boss Burritos and has been on my queue for a while. I ordered three breakfast burritos and they had two sizes... small (which is actually the regular tortilla size you typically see) and large (if you are absolutely hungry because "WOA"). When you order a burrito you order the "base" and then you can add what you want from a plethora of options. Kind of like Chipotle but WAY better. The service is fantastic to boot! Our boss treated us to lunch and said this place was really good! We ordered food here but took it back to our office to eat. Got the Boss Burrito with Asada. Once the protein has finished cooking, you will let them know what you want to accompany your burrito. I chose beans, guacamole, cheese, pico de gallo and cilantro. I enjoyed my burrito. The meat was flavorful. I really like the consistency of the refried beans. I got the mild green and red salsas. Both were equally good. They have 4 tables for dine-in. Writing this review so proud of the owner of this establishment! Came in for some nachos because I was in the area and business is booming! There was a line... but it went smoothly... even a police officer was getting food! Inside it was airy and even though it's small it felt more spacious than before. Nicely painted. Cafeteria style. You can see all the fresh ingredients to choose from right in front of you. Cooks preparing meats cooked to order. I ordered customized chicken nachos and it was hooked up just as any other time I've ordered. Food is great. Vibes are great. Owner/workers are great. They have the best burrito you can get at this price. Flavorful, full of salsa and good stuff. They have a chipotle-style setup BUT they cook the meat fresh so you wait a little longer but the result is 3x better. It's always super fresh , hot overstuffed burritos without that cold sad feeling you get from chipotle. This is my go to burrito spot. Be warned they're abit messy cause there's always so much stuff in the burrito, but that'smy fault cuase I ask for it haha just eat it there. It's really good, salsa it great too. This place is delicious! The location is small and in a busy plaza. They have a pretty unique layout opposed to other Mexican places. They have a line where you choose what goes into your burrito. Figured it'd be chorizo, eggs, beans, maybe some salsa. I also added guacamole just to mix it up. Pulled up right as they were wrapping my burrito--perfect timing. Place looked clean, kitchen looked clean, staff was friendly. Took a few bites... flavor was decent, but then I started noticing stuff that threw me off. There was shredded lettuce in it (not a fan at all), then corn, and I think sour cream too. Basically ended up being one of those loaded "everything in it" burritos, which isn't what I asked for. Everything tasted fresh and had a decent serving of all the toppings I picked. It was nothing memorable but too bad. The taco was a great size and had a good amount of Pastor. The eggs are made fresh to order, so there can be a bit of a wait if there's a line--but it's definitely worth it. Everything tastes great, and the salsas are a highlight.
