I had the vegetarian (bean) tacos and a large horchata. I sorta fell in love eating and drinking it. I was very impressed. I'm from Chicago but live in Atlanta. The food in Atlanta isn't nearly as good, so it was a breath of fresh air when I ate Chicago Mexican food. The horchata was 10/10. Tacos were 8.4/10! If I could give 0 stars I would. We ordered from here for our weekly company lunch and although the order was accurate, one of our employees meal was completely raw. He ate about half of his chicken torta before noticing that it was completely raw. Not just a little pink on the inside...but it looked as though it was freshly defrosted. We have no idea how he will react to eating raw chicken and are hoping symptoms of salmonella do not begin to occur. This also puts the rest of the office at risk...along with every customer for that matter due to the possibility of cross contamination throughout the kitchen. Given that the meal was under $10, my main reason for calling was to express my concern of health for every one of their customers, of course including my office. On the phone they immediately offered to make a new torta but didn't even give an immediate apology or sign or concern. Her next response was "oh we got a new chef." When I asked about a refund they said I can come pick it up in store or they can zelle me if I have the app, both of which seeming inappropriate considering it was a delivery order and we are a business. The associate I originally spoke to eventually called back and said that the manager was sorry and that she will supervise better next time. This is not the first time we received undercooked meat, but it is the first time it was chicken, a dangerous raw food (last time it was steak). Overall very disappointed and will be hoping for the best for our staff. read more

If it weren't for these fantastic yelp reviews, I would have continued to pass by this place like I have for the past 3 1/2 years that I've lived in this neighborhood. I would have passed by because it really doesn't look like much on the outside. Plus there are a ton of mom and pop Mexican places in the area. The El Pastor tacos are amazing. Sometimes the pork can be fatty, but not here! It shows that the quality of meat is a lot better. I think it was $1.75 for each taco. My friend got the 3 taco meal for $7. You get a lot of food for the money. The guys were really nice and friendly. Since it was our first time here, we had to look at the menu for a while and we felt no pressure to order quickly or anything. The food was ready in less than 10 minutes! Open until 2am! Reading between the lines of the reviews it seems most rave about this joint cuz its late and they are drunk....ahem..well, I tried this place SOBER and early and it SUCKS - BIG TIME. All I tried was the much tauted El Pastor...I gagged on the first bite. It tasted like it was marinating and mixed in with cheap chorizo..Its hard to find good chorizo btw, and to me, most of it is like eating dog food flavored with lime. Worst ethnic sausage known to man. The pork was greasy and too finely chopped. WAYYY overkill on the cilantro. NOTE: If places like Lalos and Altotonicos is one's idea of what good mexican food is - then I fear your obviously D.O.A tastebuds just might hit another jackpot with this joint - Y.U.C.K Once again, for an overall great variety of mexican food go to LA Fiesta just before 87th Cicero, (they also have really great three milk cake slices) Zaca Tacos and even Pepes is better than then El Gallo, Lalos and Altotonicos. read more

Shitty food shitty service!!! The woman who works the pm shift is soooo ignorant i dont know if shes the owner or not. The first complaint i ordered over the phone and she messed up our order on everything i ordered....now 2 days ago my husband placed another order over the phone, i get there and it was a packed house like all tables were taken but 2...and there was a line to register , fine..i wait in line i get up to the register and i tell her i had a phone order and then she asks me what i ordered so i tell her. Then she walks away and starts helping her tables fine i understand ur the only person there i worked in restuarant business i know how crazy it can be. So i stood there patiently waiting she comes back and tells the cook i need a torta and burrito i guess for her table..well im still standing there with my money in my hand she turns her back toward me and just stands there staring at cook.....another guy walks in and she tells him his total while im still standing at counter waiting for her to acknowledge me and my order....i ended up walking out....because if i didnt i would have made a scene like how rude can you be to a customer, to top it off the food is not good but its the only taco place open late. I will not be returning!!!! I was here, again. This time at 1:30 am on a Sunday. Shame on me. What the hell? We went after a wake in my husbands ole neighborhood. This may sound strange if you are not aware of the Southsiders native customs. Be assured that although to all non-southsiders this seems strange perhaps even in appropriate to be out boozing untill the middle of the night after a wake; to the Southsider it is not. The review: The good part, it was open. The bad part, apparently they do not believe in any sort of seasoning. The guys were nice, and they fed me which was sorely needed, so thanks for that. Come on though, how about some seasoning, even salt!? The pickled carrots and jalapenos were great, biggest darn carrot slices I have ever seen. This place serves up solid Mexican food. The tortas are good and pozole is great. Three things I don't care for about this place: #1 - If it's not on the menu, you're not going to get it. Example, their breakfast is really good, but some morning I could really go for Chilaquiles, but it's not on the menu. There are not many places you can go to get great Mexican food anytime at night... as long as you can handle the neighborhood it's worth the trip. the food is always good and we visited again this past weekend after our night out. Okay I use to go here when it was el gallo tapatío and it was good then but now when you dine in you get soup along with your chips and salsa. The food here is good nothing too spectacular. I like going to small holes in the wall and this is what kind of place it is. The workers usually only speak Spanish but I'm okay with that because I speak their lingo. It's still cash only.
