This was my first time here and this was a pleasant surprise. I didn't take pictures of all we order but we had the shrimp tacos, steak tacos and chicken tacos. The sauces were so good that came with it. I'm not sure what is green sauce is, it's like a pureed avocado really nice. I will be going by here again for my dining experience. I gave them 1 star because of their terrible customer service!! The lady taking orders is terrible. When you call and try to explain what's wrong with the order she gets loud and overall just says she does not care. I work for a big company that has been buying from them FOR YEARS. They over charge and yet cannot at least re make the order. Terrible customer service. That's exactly what keeps a company going. They need to take her off the phones but the old lady is no better. They do not value their customers at all whats so over. The quality of the food is going downhill too. McDonalds has better service than them. read more

The food is pretty good! They have quesabirria - something that can be very hard to find. The meat was tender, there was the perfect balance of cheese between the tortillas and the consommé was well seasoned. I even poured my other tacos! I would definitely suggest trying them. I've been here maybe three or four times now, plus had some carry out tacos a few times. I can't believe I haven't written a review before. This is an odd little place in a small strip mall on Western. I think the strip mall also has another Mexican place and a Chinese place in it. The decor is nice and festive if not cozy, and they have a full bar with bar stools, as well as about 12 or so tables. Seating has not been a problem when I've been there. The staff is extremely friendly. They don't all speak or understand English very well, but they do their best to explain the items on the menu. On the weekends they have some more traditional Mexican fare, like birria de chivo (goat meat), pozole, and menudo. The goat meat special is amazing, I haven't tried the pozole or menudo. They also have a house special taco called albañilero that is the best taco I've had anywhere. It's a blend of different meats and special seasonings. The grilled chicken is their special (the pollo in Pollo Locuas) and it's tasty, basic grilled chicken on the bone. with sauces. They also have a great fresh juice bar, and fantastic micheladas. Did I mention the price? Two people can eat here and have a michelada each for around $25. Pollo Locuas is a keeper. read more

This restaurant is slowly declining. I come here all the time but this particular time I brought my mother-in law here for her birthday. It's was a group of 5 and we experienced the worst possible service. Drinks were not properly mixed, orders were wrong, the server never checked on us to see if we needed anything. It was beyond horrible. The worst part is that they charged us $4.95 for shots that we normally buy there for $2.00. When we asked why they were so much they said they changed the prices. In my opinion they need to put up a sign or inform the customer before they buy 4 rounds for an entire table. I use to love Pollo, but I'm so disappointed in this business now. I hope it gets better because the owner is great. FYI: If you want a blended drink, they will tell you that the machine is broken if the person who knows how to operate it isn't there. I would give them 0 stars if I could. They are RACIST & rude! I was accused of stealing food. I bought $30 worth of tacos, an old lady brought out my food FROM THE BACK I said thank you & left out happy. I came back to tell them I noticed it's the wrong food (it was chips & dip) the lady told me they have CCTV & seen that my boyfriend grabbed the bag himself & we left out "laughing" why would I spend $30 & then so called steal $10 worth of chips & dip... I told them show us the camera of us "stealing" she didn't want to & said she'll give our money back & to never come again. The lady that gave us the food was sitting to the side watching us go back & forth & didn't admit that she gave us the wrong food. I would really like to sue for false accusations of theft/ Defamation of Character. I believe they thought we were stealing because we are young (in our 20s) & black... I've seen they have treated other blacks like crap as well. Never in my life have I have been accused of stealing & I'm always polite & joyful when I walk into anyone's store. Now I have to say that I have passed this place up many times and i am kicking myself for taking so long to stop in. I actually was here a few days ago to order a tray of rice for my son's Christening. The rice was excellent, people at the party thought it was homemade, lol.. of course, I did point out it was the only thing we DIDN'T cook for this event. Fast forward a few days... Back at Pollo Locuas to try some more food and to take advantage of the half pice margaritas, $5 for a large margarita.. Can't beat that!! (Tuesdays and Thursdays are half price margarita night) I must say that for $5, the mango margarita was worth it, but I am dissapointed to say that the MANGO flavor was NON existent. Another tiny detail, we ordered the drinks "frozen" but they came to us frothy and with no ice. Now this is my first time trying their drinks, so I am not sure if they had an off night, or were short a bartender, but I would be extremely unhappy if I was brought this drink on a regular price night. But like i said previously it was $5 so I gulped down a few, which I must say were pretty strong and not cheap on the tequilla. Maybe that is why i spyed about five "paisa" looking Mexican guys downing strawberry margaritas.. i guess i was not the only guy willing to man up and drink the girly drinks, lol.. Finally, the food was really good, the my carne asada tacos were on the small side but the meat was flavorful and not fatty, and the enchiladas my wife ordered were very good and very filling. The prices were great, cheaper than other Mexican restaurants in the area and the service was good. Three stars.. I am really affected by the frothy, flavor challenged mango margaritas.. My favorite Mexican restaurant in town! The staff is very friendly. Love coming here for a girls night out (margarita specials on Tuesdays and Thursdays!) for a quick dinner out with my husband. Love the variety on the menu. The guacamole is excellent as. Love their specialty tacos, abanilero. Normally, I am not wowed by refried beans too much, but these have to be the best anywhere around. They're addicting! Keep them in mind for any catering too. The owner/staff are very accommodating to all your party needs. We've used them for our summer parties for 3 years now. The taco cart is PHENOMENAL! Everyone that comes always comments how their's has the best variety and food all around compared to any other taco carts. They really do an outstanding job. This used to be one of my favorite Mexican restaurants but not anymore! I went in last Thursday and was just myself, a man, and a group of three already sitting at a table. I was taking mine to go and was wondering what to get, seeing that I haven't been here in a while. I ordered the 3 chicken taco dinner and elote (Mexican corn in a cup). This should only take a couple of minutes right? I watched the people leave that was already in there and saw 3 people walk in and get their food before I received mine. While I was still waiting, I forgot I wanted to order some sopes. I asked 2 different people in which they couldn't help me nor understood what I was saying at all! I received my food and asked if I could order something else, she still didn't understand what I was saying. Then I asked if I could order some sopes and her response was, "we don't have any." When I went to eat the tacos, the meat was dry, somewhat flavorful. The best part was the elote! I will not be returning unless I'm in the neighborhood and want some great elote in a cup! read more

Moving from the Lakeview neighborhood down to Beverly about a year ago with my wife, I thought we were never going to find a mexican diner that would even come close to my favorite place, Las Mananitas. It took awhile, but we found this gem hidden away in a strip mall in Blue Island. It's definitely taqueria style, so don't expect an extravagant multi-course meal. However, the food is great, the ambiance is pretty authentic, and the margaritas are killer (careful - they are POTENT)! This is my go-to place in the winter, while we normally head to Tenochtitlan in the summer, just because of outdoor seating. I went with my friend to this restaurant on a Friday night, there were maybe 5 tables full but plenty of open tables. We waited 20 minutes to get chips and an additional 5 minutes for salsa. It took 45 minutes for someone to come back to our table after us flagging them down and making them come to our table. The table next to us has been waiting 45 minutes to get a server to come to their table. No drinks, no menus, nothing, no one has been to their table in almost an hour. Well, unfortunately this diamond in the rough has turned into a lump of coal. The first couple visits were pretty good. The last two, not so much. A group of us stopped in after a night out and were truly disappointed. At 1 AM we were one of the only tables (beside the karaoke singers at the bar) in the place. There were 9 of us at the table and none of the food came out together. The last person served was about 25 minutes after the first. When a comment was made to the waitress, she got a bit of an attitude & slammed a plate on the table. That is totally unacceptable to me. I ordered the milenesa taco dinner and was unimpressed. Some of pieces were crunchy and there was more lettuce on the taco than meat. Hopefully they get their act BACK together. They WERE good. Terrible. They served us the tortilla chips before the water. Had to ask for water twice. The nachos had concession stand nacho cheese, not melted real cheese. The menudo was lukewarm. The beans were out of a can. Their margarita machine was down. And they didn't have ground beef like the menu stated. Not to mention they paid zero attention to us. If you are looking for REAL AUTHENTIC Mexican Food, look no farther as Pollo Locuas is the place. Pollo Locuas (123rd and Western, Blue Island). This is the restaurant in the middle of the shopping plaza. Note: this is the only establishment in the plaza that has a full bar. For those who are watching calories they have Grilled Marinated Chicken that is the BOMB. I personally love the Steak options from Tostadas, Tacos, Burritos Tortas or the Carne Asada dinner. I will say that the steak meat is NOT fatty or soaked in gristle. Not like other Mexican restaurants in the area. If I could rave about one dish it would be the Steak Nachos for the price it is a meal for 2 no kidding. Chips are not store bought they are freshly made by the cook every day. The Tuesday special for the marinated chicken is a deal not to pass up. The drink specials are awesome as well tell me where you can get a margarita in a huge glass for $5.00. They also sell Micheladas which my friends tell me are the bomb. (Very Potent) The waitresses are extremely nice..they really are. I have never had a bad experience and the waitress always checked to see if I needed anything else. I don't feel rushed when going to eat as the waitresses are friendly I feel like part of the family. I have seen Pollo Locuas at different sports events and the tacos from the "Taquiza" cart cant be beat. "Once you have one you just can't stop". I give Pollo Locuas "6" stars for the service, quality and the price of the meals they serve. Why go to any other Mexican Restaurant when the "Best" is right down the street. First, let me say the food is wonderful. The refried beans were the best I've tasted in a long time and the tacos were quite filling for being small. On that note, they need to have someone taking phone orders who can speak and understand English a little better. They had a difficult time getting my card number and understanding exactly where to deliver my order at my place of employment. Decided to dine in. Had a chicken and steak burrito dinner (refried beans with cheese and a plain spanish rice, no salad) the steak and chicken were over cooked. Friend of mine had the chicken taco dinner, she said it was ok. The chicken was under seasoned. The service was actually the worst I've ever experienced. No silverware or plates were given for us to eat our appetizer on ( just let some food fall on the table, it's coo). Will not return and would not recommend anyone coming here unless it's for the spicy guacamole. Birrieria the Mexican restaurant next door is a hidden gem. I had terrible experience at this place on 03/15. The customer service is terrible! I ordered a margarita and the waitress made it wrong. I asked her to make me another one and she told me no and ignored me and never came back to the table! The manager heard me complaining to my friends and came over. She never apologized for my inconvenience and had the nerve to tell me the waitress gave me the right drink! After a lot of back and forth and them wanting me to pay for this drink, the manager finally took it off my bill and told me next time make sure I know what I'm ordering, how rude! Needless to say I will never go back to this place! I hope they know that they wouldn't have a business without customers so they should learn how to treat them! read more

Give credit where credit is due! The food is ALWAYS fresh and that is something I appreciate - especially when I'm visiting friends in the area and we decide at the last minute to get something to eat. The drinks are worth the price (cheap if you ask me) ......and I can assure you, I taste the booze unlike other places that give you more juice than booze. The salsa's are out of this world and I'd love to purchase a gallon of their salsa to keep at home. If you are looking for a good place that serves great food that is a hidden gem, you've found it. Margaritas are my favorite and if I could drink the "Michelada's" I would! They are served in a huge glass and they look so good but, tomato juice and I are not friends if only we were.
