Checked out this pretty small Mexican restaurant in Alsip. It doesn't look like much from the inside or outside. Burrito Alegre is one of these hole in the wall places that usually isn't busy. Has pretty limited food choices. The prices are okay for this it seems. Be sure to have the correct expectations. It's nothing fancy. This is seriously a bare bones type of place. Has limited options. There's no margaritas or any other alcoholic beverages, so this part about it sucks. It's about $2 for Jarritos. There's also some other kinds of pop. Food is limited. It's about $3 for Chips And Salsa. A lot of the menu is meaty. There's tacos with beef and pork. Even though it's not much it's still okay for a pretty authentic experience. It's located just off Pulaski. They close pretty early so it's not a late night kind of thing. read more

When my husband and I went there for dinner yonight, I saw a hugh cochroach and when I brought it to the attention of the cashier, she did absolutely nothing. My wife and I were on an all day road trip from Madison, Wisconsin to Detroit, Michigan and were very pleased with the quality of our burrito al pastor. It had some subtle, remarkable seasonings. This is a clean, happy, order-at-the-counter, family-run place. Food quality is nearly perfect. Ambience shows a woman's touch I think: it's very homey, full of interesting plants, humble but handsome. One note, be prepared to see some folks on the streets here who are a little down on their luck. This is 2019 I shouldn't have to try to dig up a menu online. I called to ask if they have an online menu/ or at least a social media menu to see what they offer as well as pricing, cashier told me "no no menu." I asked if she could fax me a menu so that I can place an order, she told me to hold on the phone, after 6 minutes of holding I hung up called back twice with no answer. If this is how you treat customers by not answering a phone call that is horrible customer service. I mean what business doesn't have a fax machine or an online menu now a days? I finally found out how the lamb is cooked. It's barbacoa, which generally means slow cooked over an open fire. Barbecue is actually derived from barbacoa. Generally beef is used for this, but here, they use lamb, and it's spectacular. Just make sure to call ahead if you're in a hurry, 15 minute waits are common! read more

They have lots of plants in the window and hanging around. and great tacos. and wonderful salsa. i dont like how huge their chunks of chicken are though in the enchiladas (yes i just complained about a food being too big!) but theyre tasty as well. also, during the lunch hours it has taken way too long to get your order filled - maybe they have a very small kitchen or not enough help, but 35 minutes for 3 tacos is too long, especially when youre at work and dont have time to sit around. the girls up front are always nice....i always look forward to going to this "hole in the wall"! if theyd take that giant old (non-working) tv out, it would open it up a little, making it seem less crowded. read more

I was hoping for more. It was alright, not bad, just not outstanding. Very cliche rice and beans, chips and salsa were ok, people were very nice. Visited (02-23) after co-workers recommended. I order a chicken Gordita and 2 chicken tacos while my friend ordered 2 steak tacos. I thought these were the most tasteless tacos I have ever had. Seriously, how can you mess up a taco? Meat was not seasoned and food was made sloppy and filled with lettuce. Sauce was grossMy friend shared that her steak tacos tasted like sausages. Don't listen to the reviews that don't know a real Taco from Taco Bell. This place has excellent food and super hot excellent Salsa. Probably the best Salsa on the southside! They may be a little slow on preparing your food during a lunch rush but it is worth the wait! A+++++ in my book! It is in my Top 5 fav Mexican joints! read more

I got the burrito , it was moist and tasted good. Smaller than the standard size burrito, but probably better tasting. Price is good on the menu, but I got a mixture of steak and chicken, and seems I was charged extra 2 dollars. No problem, I like the the burrito ! Honestly all authentic Mexican fast food places are par with each other, and this one is as good as any other burrito place! They are better tasting but on the smaller size. First let me say the food is very good. The portions are sizeable and filling. You get a good value for portion and flavor. The décore is ok for a small place and a decent amount of seating. Downside is the long wait for food during the lunch break, so allow some time. read more

My son loves the burritos here. Whenever we are in the area he requests we go for lunch. They are delicious. I always get steak which is very good. My son has had the beef, the chicken, and the chorizo, and he liked all of them, but thought the chorizo was a little too spicy, and couldn't finish the entire burrito. But these burritos are enormous! Whenever I get a burrito here I am done eating for the day. I have also gotten steak tacos, and chicken flautas, which were tasty as well. I don't recommend taking home flautas though, eat them there while they're fresh as they don't hold up well as leftovers. The platter has 4 flautas with rice, beans, lettuce, and tomatoes; if you eat the flautas and get full take home the sides and garnish? That's what I'd suggest. It happened to me, after waiting 15 minutes for my food to be re-made, the girl came out and said she was sorry, but the cook "didn't feel like" making my food, he was too busy. Like any self respecting Chicagoan, I eat a ton of Mexican food. Like gross quantities a lot. With that on the table these tacos are a solid 8.5/10. I'd say better than just about anywhere though. OK so we come to this Mexican restaurant alot, the food is always good. Today we come here for lunch and we order two enchiladas dinners. The restaurant started getting busy with the lunch crowds. We waited for our order that never came out so Lauretta asked the waitress what the hold up was, she said the cook messed up the order so he had to redo it but the grill was full so it would take 10 minutes. No problem. 15 minutes later the waitress came out with our money and said the cook messed our order up again and now didn't want to cook it. In other word you have to leave. Reluctantly we left but I was very upset that one of our favorite restaurants treated us like this. I want to kick the cooks ass. Never will we go there again. Terrible customer services read more

It used to be are go to Mexican food joint but now they're getting cheap. They never have bread for tortas and they put more beans than meat on there. In the menu it states that the tortas come with avocado but it's been plenty of times that they don't. Just not the same quality as it used to have. read more
