I came in late night and thought that this place was a hidden gem . Ordered 1taco and had to wait 30 mins for it . The restaurant comped an extra taco for wait I guess, but honestly it was worth it at all. The steak taco was unflavored and the sauces were watered down in my opinion. I will most likely never come back here again. read more

El Gallo Tapatio is one of my boyfriend's favorite restaurants so I was eager to try it out with him for the first time but was disappointed. The chips and salsa we received were very stale and cold so we couldn't really eat it. Then we waited an hour for our food which wouldn't be too bad if we ordered a lot but we just ordered a steak sope, chicken taco, a quesadilla, and a lengua taco. We waited too long so we ended up just asking for it to go. When we got home the food wasn't even worth the wait. The sope felt soggy and the chicken on the taco was dry and flavorless. It's a nice place with a lot of space to eat. I ordered gorditas Here and they were ok. We had ordered it without bean and cheese and they still added the cheese. The service was nice and the employees were nice. The Mexican rice was salty - we didn't eat it bc of it being super salty. This is the only downfall. Didn't take pictures of the food bc we were so hungry but I will next time. read more

Walking in the service was very welcoming and friendly. They get to you fast and the food is made fresh and in a timely manner.

Used to be so good for so many years. Not the case anymore. Went a few times in the last 2 years and saw a rapid decline with some hit or miss. Went back today and now they tack on an extra 4% fee for credit card purchases. Saw the big sign next to the big pile of carrots in the bags that said carrots $1.99. Was starving so ordered them anyway, got home and found they didn't actually put the carrots in the bag I paid for. She just grabbed them as was looking when I ordered them and out of site didn't actually put them in. They shrunk the sauce down to the tiny solo cups I was wondering why, until I saw others recent reviews on google, they charge $0.50 each for them, and 4 cups was still not enough for 1 burrito. Asked for a receipt so I can see if I realized any crooked restaurant scams then I can check, but she purposely put the credit card receipt only with no itemizing. Finally get to the burrito and it was mostly beans very small and very little steak or anything else. About 1/2 the size it used to be. Not even fluffed up with a bunch of lettuce with a gumball of meat in the middle at the cut line like last time. read more

I bought chiles rellenos and sopes, and the food was terrible. The chiles rellenos didn't have the red tomato sauce; they were dry, and the sopes were small. They were nothing compared to El Gallo Tapatio #2. I'm not sure if it's the same owner, but the prices were higher as well. Came here today the food was amazing!! I ordered a chorizo quesadilla with both sauces but they had tons of things on the menu that sounded good. I love the Southside for places exactly like this!! Went to the Sox game followed by a few other establishments, and I knew what I was craving around 3:30 in the morning. Yes, a steak burrito as big as my head! It was flipping delicious! The guacamole is the bomb too. I would love to try more menu items a little more sober. I betcha everything is delish! I don't know what type of meat that they use, but there was so much inedible gristle in there that after eating like one third of the burrito, I threw it away. Didn't even try to taste the taco. I'm not a fan of any of the other El Gallo's in the area, just this one. And I can't comment on their meat as I have never tried it. I get avocado tacos on corn with beans, lettuce, tomato and i pour extra hot sauce all over it. Great rice too. 5 stars for the service and the tacos I always choose. Definitely will make this my go-to mexi spot for a good taco salad. I wasn't sure what to expect but it definitely exceeded. They have order-to-go as well as tables and booths inside.
