I've been coming to this taco spot since 2014 and I used to really love it, but over the years the experience has gone downhill. One of the biggest issues is with pricing. I've noticed that certain menu items are listed at one price on the board, but when I go to pay, the waitress suddenly charges me something completely different. For example, I've been ordering the chicken salad here for years, and it was always around $13-14. Then one day when I ordered with her, the price jumped to $20. More recently, I ordered chilaquiles that were posted on the wall for $9.50, but at checkout she rang them up as $15.99. Not only is that misleading, but I'm pretty sure it's not even legal to advertise one price and charge another. On top of that, the quality of the food has become inconsistent. When I come at night and a certain cook is working, my meat is often burnt. They also never seem to offer specials, and it feels like prices just change whenever they want. It's really disappointing because I've been loyal to this place for years, but the way things are being handled lately has made me not want to come back. read more

This place is still good, but prices have shot up 33%+ and the portion I received today felt about 15% smaller. I can understand paying more if you're at a sit down restaurant, but this is largely a take out place and doesn't warrant such a high price increase. The prices in their board ($11 for a huarache) are not reflected with what they're ringing you up for - $16 w/ tax - which feels very disingenuous. I think such a high price increase will severely reduce their clientele or at least limit their return visits. I know my family and I won't be able to come here as often as we used to. The owner should have done their homework regarding the price elasticity of a take out meal. According to USDA "The price-elasticity of demand for restaurant meals is about 2.3, or very elastic. (That means that if the price of a restaurant meal changes by 1%, the quantity of restaurant meals sold would drop about 2.3%.)" This loss in the number of meals purchased can be made up by the higher prices, but restaurants like Taco Sabroso thrive on repeat, local customers, and without any incentive to go there outside of their food, there's not a real reason to pay such a high price when you can instead pay the same price for a much nicer sit down experience. read more

Tried out the restaurant for the first time since I moved to the area (10 yrs) & I wasn't pleased. Ordered asada tacos & asada burrito. The meat was okay. I could taste the seasoning, but it lacked salt & bit more flavor. Tacos were average, nothing memorable. The burrito was on a diet if I compare them to what other Mexican restaurants sell, which were my expectations. I would expect a bit more filling for a $10 burrito. The salsa was really good though, but I don't think I'll visit this place anytime soon just for the salsa. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the food as it wasn't what I expected. Went in today 1/11/2022 and I ordered 2 Chicken Taco dinners which I was charged 29.79...I was told that now they're charging for the Cheese and Sour Cream .50 cent per item for each Taco which would have added another 6.00 to the bill for a grand total of 35.00...now granted the food is decent and I understand that Cheese and Sour is not free BUT that's the purpose of purchasing a dinner so you WON'T have to purchase extras...now if I was purchasing 6 Tacos I could see the extra charge but I'm paying you 30 bucks for two dinners and you still want me to pay extra for the Sour Cream and Cheese?? Great spot for cheap, authentic Mexican food! My friend and I came here on a hot May night and sat outside on the patio. There's not much room inside the restaurant, so the patio is perfect for a late spring/summer night. We had the beef, steak, chicken, and chorizo tacos as well as a steak Gordita. The Gordita was by far our favorite!! Essentially, the Gordita is just like a taco, but with a thicker corn tortilla. Definitely coming back for the gorditas! read more

Okay so this place is teeny tiny, but somehow they managed to fit tables inside and seating at the counter. When I went in on a mission last night there was a patron at the counter enjoying his meal & 3 young ladies waiting to order. I'm sure that the establishment was at capacity including myself.lol. I do however appreciate their outdoor seating, if had come with my entourage we would've enjoyed this. Service was A1, the lady that took my order was sweet and had a mom vibe. She was friendly and smiled, people aren't as happy as they should be when serving others, so I appreciated this. They were quick too! Even with multiple orders ahead of me my wait was only 7 minutes! So to the food and to the point: I got horchata, rice and beans , steak tacos. Horchata was 2 thumbs up. On the sweet side, but very yummy! Rice and beans were a hit! Rice was soft but not mushy and the beans actually had flavorrrr. It was a lot of cheese on the beans, but I think for most that's a win. Steak tacos were kinda a let down :( I was so excited because my co worker raved about this place and I waited all week to travel to this side of town ( anything for good tacos ) they were ALRIGHT. I had this place bookmarked off of another Yelpers review, and I am really happy I checked it out. This is a tiny stand-alone building on Pulaski, but has great signage out front, so you will not miss it. By tiny, I mean if there are 3 people inside at the counter, waiting to order, it is crowded. They have outdoor seating for about 20 - which is great if the weather is nice. Otherwise, this place is strictly take-out. I hit them up around noon on Saturday. There is 1 table with 2 chairs inside, and 2 stools to sit at, at the counter. There is a window to order from and the menu is posted on the wall. I just went with 3 tacos to get a baseline - a carne asada, a chicken, and a chorizo - and an order of guacamole. The space where orders are taken and food is prepared is probably 8 x 4, with 3-4 workers maneuvering around each other. They have this down to a science. Everyone was very friendly. The place quickly got crowded and me standing inside waiting for my food was not an option, so I sat outside. It did take about 15 minutes, and in that time, people that came after me received their food. I wasn't in a hurry, so I just enjoyed the gorgeous weather. When they brought my food, they did apologize for the wait. I couldn't wait to get home and try these. The tacos steamed in the wrapper and I am sure only got better during my 5 minute drive home. They were AMAZING. The chicken was probably my favorite, but all were so good. The guac was average, but at $3.50, a good deal. I will make this a destination spot for take-out authentic Mexican food. They have a pretty decent size menu, and I look forward to trying more options. I've been here a few times and it has been decent. My last time was horrible. I ordered a burrito and the flour shell was horribly burnt. I could not eat it. Also noticed my friend had gone there a week earlier and noted there were no prices posted on their menu. They were taped up but on their paper menu had prices on them, but didn't match what they told us. The prices they quoted were higher. When my friend asked about the price of a steak burrito they said it was $9.00!!!!!! Pretty shady. My friend was not latino. Maybe that's why the price was higher. Won't be returning and will not be recommending this place except to the City of Chicago Health Department. read more

Not a very big place, but don't let looks be deceiving very good authentic Mexican food. I always get the chicken or steak tacos and yet have I ever been the slightest disappointed with the food. I've been to this restaurant plenty of times. It's a very tiny restaurant so I usually do take-out. The chicken enchiladas verdes are delicious and very inexpensive. I am very picky when it comes to Mexican food, and this place more than satisfied me. My boyfriend and I shared some carne asada sopes as we waited for our entrees. The quality and flavor of the steak was fantastic. For our meals I had the carne asada plate and he had the tampiquena plate.. wow. Just wow. Portions were very generous. Comes with quesadilla, large portion of carne, beans, rice, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and plenty of tortillas. Their house salsa verde was also on point. To top it all off they have a nice little outdoor patio area that we were able to dine at and enjoy the nice weather as we ate. Will definitely be back here very soon! read more
