I found this place on Yelp and was so excited to take my team here when we were in Chicago. I called ahead and scheduled a reservation so when we arrived we were immediately seated. I wasn't sure how busy the place would be, but when we got there, there were only a couple of tables with customers. Our waitress took a while to come to our table, about 10 minues, but when she did she dropped off menus. Shortly after she brought our drinks and didnt come back to the table for almost 20 minutes. When she came back she asked if we were ready to order appetizers. We let her know we waited so long we were ready to order dinner. Everyone placed their orders with some apps and the food came out about 20 min later. The chicken wings arrived and looked good but tasted flat and were dry. As for everyone's dinner, there were a variety of issues. Some complained of the food being too salty, the samon was overcooked, and the seafood tasted gritty. As for my Chicken Madeira, it was okay. The sauce would have been better if it didn't break. It was very oily and the chicken was tough. Overall, it was a cute place but we didn't have a good experience. Every time we've gone to Ash, it's terrible service. And because it's a local neighborhood spot, we keep trying to give them another chance. We went on a Friday night after seeing they were not busy. We were seated quickly and got menus. And that's all we got! We sat there for there for a while. Two tables ate and left. We didn't even get water. We watched as everyone left and we were the only ones left. They began cleaning up and yet no one came to take our order. Not even a drink. We asked if they were closing and the waitress by the bar said no, they were still open. We decided to leave. At this point we are done going back to Ash. read more

My wife and I like to support local businesses which is why we dined at Ash. Our experience was not good at all. We ordered two entrees. Waitress/bartender got 50% of our orders wrong. Whereas this would great if this was your batting avg in the MLB; for a restaurant it was horrible. There were three other tables occupied while we dined, so being too busy was no excuse. I ordered a prime rib sandwich. The meat look like it was grated. Tiny little pieces of meat. The menu describe the sandwich as having shaved prime rib. Therefore i was expecting something resembling sliced meat. In reality is more resembled razor stubble. Our bill was over $100 for a less than mediocre meal. Ahhh-mazing spot! I was traveling between Ohare & Midway on a layover & stumbled into Ash's! Best decision of our trip so far! We had two apps, Brussels & Fries, main The Daily Special - Smoked Short Ribs & the steak, and lastly ended the night with donuts & meeting the owner! We knew that we picked the right place when we demolished the Shaved Brussel Sprouts! Yes it's a gastropub but like, so much more. The flavor on the Short Ribs were nothing shy of amazing! The donuts were still warm when they hit the table - if you told me they didn't have a pastry chef doing their desserts I would be shocked! All the pricing for Chicago are reasonable - and while we didn't have drinks with dinner we did not feel out of place or required to drink! This place was a typical gastropub for me. I came here with a large group and they were fairly effective at getting the food out. I didn't have water for most of the meal which left me a bit parched. I got the chicken Madeira which was a FULL MEAL. It had like 4 chicken breasts, mashed potatoes, gravy, asparagus, and mushrooms. It could have used less chicken. The chicken was pretty bland and really needed the cheese and gravy on top. Salmon and the fries looked delicious but I did not have any. We were there last night celebrating my friend's birthday and had a great time. Luckily we had a reservation because the place was packed with an Archer bar crawl crowd. Last night, I finally tried their burger of the month...OMG AMAZING!!!! A nice thick patty of delicious beef, topped with a healthy amount of perfectly seared shrimp, melted mozzarella and a delicious aioli. And I got mine well-done (don't judge!)...good-god they couldn't have cooked it any more perfect than what I was served! It was soo juicy, no pink whatsoever, which could be challenging to prepare, but they nailed it!!!!! The fries that came with the burger are always yummy. My other friend had their broiled shrimp pasta and it was very good. The birthday girl had the chicken piccata on their specials menu...this left me confused. The chicken looked to have been battered & fried rather than the traditional way of preparing a piccata...maybe it's just their interpretation of a piccata. But the asparagus that came with the dish were a nice large size and cooked perfectly! We had their doughnuts for dessert and they were also very yummy! Freshly prepared and beautiful presentation! Drinks were ok. The service was ok considering the overwhelming crowed due to the night's events. I liked that we were not rushed and enjoyed a nice dinner with friends. Came for the breakfast brunch buffet. Our waitress was super nice and friendly, kept the champagne coming for our mimosas. There were plenty of food options including the basic American breakfast foods (egg, bacon, sausage, pancakes) which were all standard-nothing special. Went here for brunch recently with some friends. Our server was super nice and attentive. We did the bottomless mimosas/bloodies and she made sure my mimosa never found the bottom. My friend said that her Bloody Mary was really good - she described it as smoky. Run down of the food we ordered: Burger - I had the burger and thought it was really good and juicy. The waffle fries were also excellent Chicken and waffles - my friend was disappointed to hear that the chicken and waffles featured chicken wings instead of boneless. However once she tasted them she was very pleased. I tried a bite of the waffle and thought it was delicious. Steak and eggs - Steak and eggs were divine. My friend said it was probably one of the best steaks she's had. And the hash browns(even though they were more like roasted potatoes) had a really good seasoning to them. I tried a bite of the steak and would definitely order that next time. The owner was walking around to tables and chatting with everyone which is always a nice touch. Finally got the chance to go to ASH and we were so impressed! Incredible food, amazing service, fun/lively atmosphere. We had some of the specials as appetizers which were delicious, and I absolutely loved the flavor of the bang bang chicken sandwich. Slowest service I've ever experienced. Went on a Saturday night with my bf, and the restaurant was not crowded at all as it was already 7pm. Despite that, it took ages to be greeted by our server and for our drink orders to be taken. Our server was extremely forgetful - we ordered one cocktail for drinks, and then one plate of vodka pasta (it was the special that day) and one order of the bang bang chicken sandwich. No modifications or anything, but our server came back at least 3 times clarifying the order because she didn't write it down. The food took over 30 minutes to come out, and it was mediocre at best so it just wasn't worth the wait nor the poor service by the waitstaff. I paid with my debit card, and at first the charge was on my account, then it disappeared, and then it suddenly charged it again with my tip included. I find it weird that they processed my payment over a week after I dined in. I won't be returning, and I don't recommend. Had high hopes for this place, and I'm pretty disappointed overall. read more
