While passing through Santa Fe, we stopped at El Comal for dinner, and we're so glad we did! I ordered the green chile stuffed sopaipilla, my husband had the ground beef chalupas, and my son had the steak and eggs -- everything was delicious. The complimentary chips and salsa were a great start, but the real highlight of the meal was the fresh, warm sopaipillas served with honey. They were easily some of the best sopaipillas we have ever had! The staff was friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout our visit. My wife ordered the huevos ranchero with the green and red sauce and I ordered the migas with a side of bacon and green chili sauce. Ordered the Triple Enchilada: beef, cheese and chicken with beans and rice, corn tortillas. The enchiladas were covered with a red flaming hot sauce, a distracting heat covering the good food underneath. Scrapped chili sauce off to the side and it was all good. We had huevos rancheros and the Santa Fe omelette and thoroughly enjoyed then both. Both red and green chili sauces were tasty. Such a horrible experience here. The food was mediocre, and that alone I was going to give 2-3 stars. BUT we had a party of 6 with separate bills, in which each bill was higher than the amount of food we ordered. When questioned, the server told us gratuity was already included for the "clean up". BUT the majority of our group already had paid and added extra gratuity since it was not marked on our bills. It wasn't until after the fact that we did the math and were very upset. While visiting Santa Fe I ate breakfast here every morning and never ate the same thing twice, except the sopapillas (we'll talk about that later).
