Horrific. The help were bragging about share-sneezing in my burger. Luckily I heard the entire staff including the managers laughing and bragging about sharing a sneeze in on my meal before I took my first bite of the burger. I couldn't help but at least try the onion rings, they were all cooked so perfectly who could resist. To that note the meals presentation was awesomeness! I'm always up for trying restaurants I've never been to before in my home state. Came with family and a friend and they both loved it. Food was really tasty and the chile wasn't too spicy but still flavorful. Ordered a strawberry margarita which tasted more like a strawberry Lemonade (which can be a good thing). Service was lacking, hence the 4 stars. Server who took our drink order just looked at us without asking us what we wanted to drink as if we're supposed to read his mind. Poorly managed and do not take complaints seriously. I complained about the temperature of my served food and the manager blamed the server and the kitchen. The server was blamed because I requested my meal be "stove hot" when I placed my order with her and it arrived at my table only tepid. The kitchen was blamed because it didn't make the effort to satisfy the customer request. The manager could only smile and make NO recommendation on what they could have done better. This is my first visit to Los Amigos. I went with several of my co-workers for lunch. The thing that impressed me first was the restaurant is separated into three main sections. The first two were very nice. We sat in the third section, furthest from the door, nearest the road. Our table was a white folding table and our chairs were white folding chairs. I wasn't impress with that, but perhaps that was due to our being a large party so it is probably the best they could do, under the circumstances. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt in this case. The other sections looked much nicer. I had the Carne Adovada Platter which came with pinto beans and Spanish rice. It was delicious! The free chips and salsa were great. My dish didn't come with a sopapilla, but one of my co-workers did. There are three things that impressed me about Los Amigos' sopa's. (a) they are the largest sopapillas I have EVER seen! (b) They had the thinnest dough of any sopa I've ever seen. I have no idea how they achieved that, but its quite an accomplishment. (c) They were the most bland tasting sopa's I ever tasted. (My co-worker allowed me a taste.) Even those I had some drawbacks, because of the quality of the food I believe this to be a really good restaurant. Well worth your time to visit. read more

I've tried this place twice and the food is mediocre but the customer service is even worse. I ordered the taco plate x2 Togo and they forgot the beans and rice on both of them. Not that big of deal but when I called to ask about it she said "what do you want me to do about it I don't pack the food." Excuse me? Who talks to customers like that. That is literally half of our meal. tacos, beans and rice and THEY FORGOT THE BEANS AND RICE?? When I told her they forgot half of our meals she argued with me and told me to bring all my food back. I just got home and I have a toddler I'm not going to bring it back. It really wouldn't of been that big of problem but her attitude made it so much bigger. I would have given this restaurant fights are review. The only thing that stopped me from doing that is the fold-out tables with the plastic chairs in the back room. I love their green chili more than the red chile. Service was excellent. When I asked for a refill on chips they immediately brought me some more. I never had to ask for refilling tea. you get a good amount of food for your price. I had the blue corn enchiladas with two tortillas, I added chicken to mine you can add beef to yours if you so incline. Recommend by some friends who have a home in the area. We would have never found this as well out of the main tourist area but definitely worth the trip and definitely a local hangout. All the meals come with a sopapilla or tortillas. Would recommend the sopapillas as they are huge and fresh. We are here twice on our short trip. First night I had the chile relleno plate and my wife had a combo plate. The chiles were huge and flavorful. My wife enjoyed all that was in her combo which I think included taco enchilada and tamale. The rice and beans are excellent and the sauces are excellent. Chips and salsa are excellent with good flavor. On the second night I had the chicken burrito and my wife had another combo plate. The burrito was STUFFED with shredded chicken breast and the green chile was excellent. The highlight of night 2 was a HUMONGOUS piece of 5 layer chocolate cake. We saw this the first night but did not get any. Could not pass up on night 2. I have never gotten a piece of cake at a restaurant this large. We shared it that night and had enough left over to share again the next night. Service was really good night one and a little slow the second night but still not enough to drop it off 5 stars. If you have transportation while visiting Santa Fe definitely make a trip to this local gem. read more

I had 2 pm lunch, was surprised how busy it was at 2 pm. I ordered the margarita, on the rocks. Waiter said they do not serve margaritas on the rocks but slushie style only, so I agreed to try it. I ordered the tres enchiladas. When served, the enchiladas are in middle of plate with pinto beans on one side and rice on other....WHAT? We used to call in an order every Saturday for my son. Tortilla burger, XMas. But the last time we went they gave us a burger with like 3 melted slices of cheese instead of the usual shredded cheese. It looked like the burger was covered in nacho cheese. So when we asked why that was the co owner, I think her name is Maria(Rudy's wife) was rude, acted like the burger always comes like that. She was so rude that we're not going back. Probably because we're Chicano and not Mexican like her. I noticed they only cater to their own kind. By the way my son hated the burger. I recently went to a couple of the highest rated mexican restaurants around in Santa Fe, and got to try a majority of their food. Carne advova- The taste portions and tenderness is excellent. Definitely recommend this here Chips - average chips, free Sopapilla- this sopapilla is the best I've had in Santa fe. We ordered it on the side after everything was done and it came out crispy and huge Ribeye Steak- Quite good, original taste, no need for steak sauce or anything. We arrived in Santa Fe in time for dinner, road buzzed and hungry after the long miles that day. We were greeted with smiles and seated quickly. Our waitress was quick with our water and cerveza order and took our dinner order. The food arrived quickly and was steaming hot. It was quickly apparent that lots of the ingredients were fresh and locally grown. The flavor was fantastic and bright. The waitress came by several times to fill our drinks and check on how we were doing. Let's talk about the sopaipa, it was great! Great in flavor, freshness, and size! Solid food, but nothing spectacular. This place may even be slightly below average, since there are so many great NM restaurants in Santa Fe at various price points and grease levels. I've eaten here twice and been underwhelmed. Like I said, solid, but I don't think it's likely that I'll come back, despite the fact that the service was great, and the place is full of locals. The chile rellenos have an odd aftertaste that makes me suspect that they're stuffed with cream cheese. Also, FYI, these are the type of rellenos that have a thick layer or batter. On the upside, the beans aren't overly salty, but they're also not super flavorful. The Spanish rice tastes good, but tastes too much like canned tomatoes, and not enough like spices for my taste. The red chile was pretty good, although it's of the "bright" flavor, as opposed to the smoky flavor I prefer. La Choza/The Shed definitely have better red chile. The sopapillas are too large, which is problematic, since they don't fry well, and end up doughy. read more

Maybe it was a mistake coming to this popular restaurant on a Sunday. Although we had an 'okay' lunch, we were virtually ignored by our waitress during our entire visit. No chips & salsa; no drink refills; no 'how's it going.' I had a chicken Caesar salad that was soaked with salad dressing. The broiled chicken was nicely seasoned. The deco is very Santa Fe style and the food is very typical New Mexico where you can get comfort food smothered with green and / or red chiles and cheese. We ordered the Mexico platter, breakfast sandwiches, Huevos Rancheros and side of sopapillas( fried bread). They were greasy-spoon brunch and hit the spot! We've been coming here for years but recently there has been a steady decline in quality and quantity. The lackluster decor can be offset by the good service, but the food isn't good. I won't come here again to pay $11.99 for an enchilada plate. This consisted of a stack of three flat tortillas topped with about 3/4 cup of tasteless ground beef. Add only about 2 tablespoons of lettuce/tomatoes and some green chili. The beans to the side were hard and the rice bland. Throw in a chipped steak plate from 1980 or earlier. Could you give me some sauce, or a dollop or sour cream? And I don't need a sopapilla larger than my head. read more

Bro J and TT arrived on Friday and we headed to La Choza without reservations. When we learned of the one hour wait, we got back in the car and headed for Café Castro. Hmmmmm, closed since last year, so Yelp helped us find Los Amigos, a little off the path beaten by the tourists. It is well rated without having 200 reviews which I always find promising. From the outside, it is deceiving. It is not all lit up and is not on a main street where a lot of people would drive by and just say, "Hey, there is a place, let's try it". Yet they were full with a 15 minute wait, which tells me they have a loyal local clientele. The salsa would not be a reason to go here, it is pretty much sweet, tomato puree, but then I never go somewhere for chips and salsa, so that was a throwaway. On the other hand, Bro J's carne adovada was remarkable, nearly the best of the trip so far out of 3-4 places. This is about the richest carne adovada can be without being too much so. Absolutely delicious with tender, moist well cooked pork. This put Maria's in perspective. Get your red chile fix here. I ordered a big bowl of pork and green chile stew. It is a brothy style, with largish chunks of pork and potato. It did not have a ton of green chile, but it was really good, a homemade style. I dressed it with a squeeze of lime and a dash of salt and it was perfect. TT had her usual chilles rellenos. The red chile she had on top that was extremely rich, like the adobo on the carne. Bro J's side of posole stayed with the rich red theme. This is not soup. It had large chunks of very good pork and not so much corn. The style is redder, richer and thicker than typical. Very good. On the slight downside, the frijoles are pintos, served whole (which is good) but I thought they needed a little salt and somehow they were a little sweet. The rice was the plastic pellet kind, like Maria's and pretty tasteless. So far we are 0 for 3 on rice this trip. In summary, this is a great, home style place. You will enjoy excellent carne adovada or pork and green chile stew. Our service was excellent and the prices are reasonable. You can expect to wait a little but it is worth it. read more
