I hadn't been here since 1999 and remembered it was good back then but generally not a NM restaurant that people talked about or as popular such as Tomasita's. The Pantry, etc... Wait time wasn't long. Staff was pretty friendly. Started with chips and salsa (not gratis) & the salsa had a nice kick to it. BFF ordered a combination plate with a hard taco and Xmas (he said spicy but flavorful). I had a bean and cheese sopaipilla with red and it was delicious and red was flavorful. I used to love this place! Food is mediocre at best now, service is lacking. I call ahead of time to ask about the watermelon margaritas and told they are serving them. when I got to the restaurant about an hour later, I was told they don't have the watermelon margaritas. I've been eating here for 20 years but i noticed a decline food in quality this week. We had two orders of roast beef quesadillas and both orders had large chunks of fat gristle we had to remove. We had a group of 11 for dinner as part of the Santa Fe Foodies; I don't think I've been to this restaurant in 20+ years and didn't expect much. Boy, was I surprised at the superb food and service. I think everyone agreed that all our dinners were excellent. When I walked in, I saw Red Chile Pork Ribs on the special menu, which I ordered. The rib meat fell off the bone and was tender and moist, and the slightly sweet, savory red chile sauce was outstanding. For the sides, I had posole, which was excellent! Also, very good Black Beans and sopapillas. My wife had the Brisket tacos; the brisket was delicious, moist, and tender, and a great meat for tacos. She had the calabacitas as a side, and we both agreed that this version was very tasty. Portions are huge, I took three ribs home. I told the manager (owner?) that the ribs were amazing and that they should have them on the menu; he told me that they could be ordered at any time, and they always have them. Apparently, this was his grandmother's recipe. Try them! They are a bit spicy (med heat) but to die for. Our server was Brandon, and he did an excellent job with a large group; all the food came at the same time, we always had our beverages filled, and we got much-needed extra napkins (the ribs are messy in a good way). Came here with my family looking for traditional Native food. Food was not too bad, the meet from the tacos and quesadilla where good, my boyfriend liked his chicken quesadilla, I got the stuffed sopapilla with chicken and potato which was just a bed of hash browns with shredded chicken breast and a sopapilla with melted cheese on top (the cheese had a really good flavor, but I did expect something stuffed not just on top...). They bring to the table chips and salsa which they charge you for... and include a 25% tip if you have a party of 6 or more... we were 5 adults and a 4 year old who "counts" because he got a kids meal, so that made it 6 plates. The appetizer was green chili with cheese which had no flavor we had to add salt and when that didn't fix it we put the salsa that came with the chips in it, and it was a lot better then. The service was not bad, we did waited a long time for our food, and since we had been traveling all day we were hungry so we kept on eating the chips and got full by the time the food showed up. Your plate includes sopapillas that you eat with honey, and definitely that was the best part of all. Overall, I am disappointed because we were recommended to this place, and what really upset me was the fact that they added the 25% tip, and when I asked why the response was that is the way it is, I explained we were not notified of it and even though it says it on the menu, I never thought my kid was gonna be counted to reach the 6 party number. There is a bar section with a couple large TV's that had a football game on the day I went. Restaurant and restrooms were nice and clean. Host and server were very friendly. The menu was a little confusing as it only indicated Breakfast & Lunch but it appears you can order any of these items for dinner as well.
