The crowd was slim, there was a party at a table, a couple sitting next to us staying at the hotel, two men at the other end of the bar. I am extremely accustomed to East Coast hospitality , it's different here but the service was efficient just not particularly chatty or informative about the menu. The meat was fabulous. Perfectly cooked, Smokey, juicy, fatty. Everything I want in a burger. The green chilis could have been hotter for my taste but they were flavorful and there were lots. Hmmm...I'm very sad to report this place has gone downhill. Per tradition, we came for margaritas on our first stop in town, and they were pretty awful. My house margarita tasted like straight up sweet and sour and my mom's Cadillac margarita was also pretty sub par. As we were sitting at the bar, a very loud and rude man was having a conversation on speaker phone about women being parasites and succubi. I understand not liking confrontation, but this guy had this conversation for well over 20 minutes on speaker phone the entire time and the bartender and employees didn't say a thing to him. I was about 30 seconds from asking him to take it outside when he finally ended the call. Del Charro is the restaurant connected to Inn of the Govenors, the hotel we stayed at while vacationing in Santa Fe. I wanted to love it, but really I loved the atmosphere, liked the margaritas, and didn't much care for the food. I went to Del Charro for drinks twice, dinner and drinks once, and breakfast three times, as they serve the free breakfast to hotel guests in the dining room each morning. We went to Del Charro for margaritas as soon as we arrived in Santa Fe, as we waited for our hotel room to be ready. My friend ordered the house margarita and I had the prickly pear. Both were good, and not too sweet. The house margarita is large in size, and has a good balance of mixers and tequila. I loved the atmosphere. All of the locals seemed to be drinking there at that time, and we were able to chat with some different people. Breakfasts were made to order for hotel guests, and we were given a choice of about 6 different options. I enjoyed it the day I chose the omelette, but the other days I found it to be greasy. When we had dinner there, I used my Yelp check-in order for free chips, salsa and guac. That caused some trouble as they had no idea what I was talking about. Also, strangely enough, in Santa Fe, restaurants seem to charge for chips and salsa. In the end, we were able to get free chips and salsa, but no guac. I also thought that the chips were broken up and messy on the plate. I'm glad we did not pay for them. My friend and I both ordered the enchiladas, which were served with rice and beans. We ordered the sauce Christmas-style (red and green). What we received were plates of food full of sauce that hid what we were eating. We couldn't really differentiate the enchiladas from the sides. It was sort of messy and the flavors all ran together. I also had one margarita there just as I was waiting for my ride to the airport. Again, the drink was good. They played old school country, which felt very fitting for the atmosphere. It felt relaxed and peaceful in the bar. All in all, I would recommend Del Charro for drinks. One of my favorites. My wife and I met a couple here the other day. I really like this place. Unfortunately, the main saloon was closed down - looks like renovation. The place has been around forever. This is an old-time place. I love the saloon - very old fashion. I hope they don't get rid of the feel. You will often see a cowboy (Fetus Parker type) or two. We had an early dinner and a marg. (I like the marg!) We arrived around 5.00. Place was very crowded. We all ordered some form of the burger. All came out great. Service is a little slow - you may be waiting. Prices are good here. While it is a big place, it is not too loud. Can't talk about parking since we took the train. read more

We were at an event at Meow Wolf, and since it was late, we found out on Yelp that Del Charro's kitchen is open late (they're open until midnight, though I'm not sure exactly when the kitchen closes). We sat in the dining room (complete with a fireplace), but there's also bar seating in the saloon area. Food ranges from caesar salad and nachos to chicken enchies and burgers. My colleague went for the stuffed green chile cheeseburger (it was huge!) and I ordered the chicken nachos (also yuuge). Service was verrry slow, and no one really checked in during our meal... The epitome of mediocrity. Everything my companion and I ate was made without love and resembled the worst of frozen/bulk Sysco supplies. None of the food was made with any attention to detail,let alone love. The restaurant gave off every red flag: filthy floors, a server who didn't welcome us,and being asked if we were ready to order the moment our server came over. The black bean burger was cooked to death and surely came out of a cardboard box. I've had better potato salad from grocery stores, and the chicken green chile chowder tasted like a heavy cream corn chowder that sat under a heat lamp for too long (but was still somehow lukewarm). The servers are working hard -- the restaurant is large and there aren't enough of them. But the food itself is below mid and with SO many other places to eat in Santa Fe, people would be better served going literally anywhere else. Avoid. read more

Half the group is underage, so we were welcomed to the Governor's Room in back (separate from the bar area in front). Nice large selection of margaritas, bar food as well as the capability to order from the dining room menu I think. We ate dinner at the bar at Del Charro twice while staying at The Inn of the Governors this past May. The first night was after driving down from the Denver area on a Saturday. We knew we were going to arrive at the hotel late afternoon and needed to unpack, so had previously planned not to make a dinner reservation somewhere and go out (plus it was one of the NBA West Coast Playoffs nights and we wanted to watch it on a TV in the bar). Anyway, that Saturday, we went down 7-ish and found most of the seats at the bar occupied so we started at a table. Soon after we sat down, a couple of seats that were together became available, so we moved to the bar. We ordered margs (Patron Silver, fresh lime juice and Cointreau) and queso with chips while we perused the menu to decide on dinner. I decided on the Green Chile Cheese Burger with fries, and The Hubs had the Blue Corn Chicken Enchiladas dinner. Everything was really good! The chiles on the burger were the milder ones but had tons of flavor (I was glad they were mild, actually). It was an excellent burger that came with the full burger setup - onions, tomato, lettuce (don't think pickles were there, but not necessary anyway). I didn't taste The Hubs' dinner, but he said it was good. We had a great time , despite Steph getting injured in GAME1!! Our server/ bartender this night was attentive despite being extremely busy. The second night we ate here was a couple days later on the second night of the NBA series. We went down 7-ish and found seats at the bar immediately (of note here- we came to SF off-season for a reason). We ordered margs and guac/chips (the queso was way too much/filling for the two of us the other night (despite it being very tasty) to start while we thought about dinner and watched a sad (Warriers-minus-Steph) basketball game. HOWEVER - the highlight! Our server/bartender that night (Chris? geez, I hope that's right) was great!. He chatted and when we were thinking about a dinner entree, suggested the Seared Ahi Tuna Sandwich (don't see it on their current online menu). I had been considering it, but the total package didn't grab me. It came on thinly sliced rye bread with pickled ginger (which actually turned out to be really good), but whatever the side was didn't work for me. We worked with 'Chris' (again, I hope that's his name) and got it with a salad of mixed greens and tomato. It was so good! The tuna was seared to med-rare (we both ordered this, btw) and it was excellent! It was a very surprising find! Unfortunately, I don't see it on the menu today, but maybe their menu varies based on on-off tourist season and or just the season (they had daily dinner specials when we came down; now I just see weekend specials). Anyway, overall, I would recommend Del Charro. Our experience was great!. We found the service, food, and atmosphere to be very inviting In the bar. And friendly. Since the bar area is only part of Del Charro we had dinner in, I can't say about the non-bar restaurant area. read more

Del Charro is a nice little restaurant just off the beaten path in Santa Fe. Hidden behind the Roundhouse, it's a fun place to spot legislators having a bite and discussing business. The place has a neat wooden bar in the front. The bartenders are efficient and do a nice job of getting drinks out to their guests. The back of the restaurant is the restaurant. It is very open, clean, and pretty. The servers are a little bit and miss. They are usually pretty nice and efficient. There are times they seem to disappear, but overall my experiences have been positive. The food is good, if not spectacular. Good burgers, good tacos, etc. However, the chicken nachos were excellent! I mean, they were really great! The chicken was moist and delicious. Great chips, made to handle all the topping placed on the dish! Our party of six found ourselves in Santa Fe, NM on Thanksgiving Day as part of a weeklong trip thru Southern NM. After a lunch at the UFO McDonalds in Roswell, we wanted a traditional Turkey meal for dinner. We found it at Del Charro and it was delicious. The meal started with a Fall Salad with pecans, butternut squash, and more. Then the roasted turkey with green chile stuffing, Yukon mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce. Dessert choice was apple pie or pumpkin bread pudding. We tried it all. Although this isn't their standard fare, they knocked it out! I can only imagine how good their daily dishes must be. They were quite busy but seated us within minutes in a large room with a roaring fireplace. Oh! They had cocktails, too. Margaritas, Mules, Martinis. All good. Our server was friendly, attentive, accommodating, and showed no signs of being weary from the long holiday shift. We considered lunch here on Black Friday but wanted to try another Santa Fe place. I am giving it five stars, even though the service was lacking at the bar (which is rare for any bar)--- maybe they give more attention to the regulars (it's a locals spot) or maybe they were just too busy (it's a popular spot), or maybe the crew is so busy being social (it's nice they are a happy family, but it was hard to get eye contact). The ambiance in the bar area is perfect: comfortable and dark, the only light coming from the televisions. They divided the rest of the restaurant into small, bright rooms, which is less to my liking. But the bar is great; in fact, the Reporter readers voted Del Charro in Top 3 Bars for generosity, coziness, affordability, and friendliness for 2023. My wife enjoyed her Frito Pie, and I loved my hamburger because of the thick slice of red onion and "borderline-undiagnosed" unusual judging criteria: the ratio of size to manageability. In other words, the fresh meaty burger is as big as you can get without being hard to handle or fragile. The $5 ice cream "sundae" is a cheap way to end the meal, but it's really just a scoop of vanilla with a tiny amount of chocolate syrup. They should put syrup on the bottom. We got a bad table as it was crowded and only a 2 top with one chair facing the tv was available, thus only one of us could see the TV. Drinks were good. Burgers were good. Service was slow and ambivalent. Good bar vibe. We asked to move to a 4 top when the party of 4 was leaving but were told we would not like it as it had a cold breeze when the door opened. Odd since the folks sitting there in t-shirts didn't seem to be bothered by it. My guess is he didn't want 2 people sitting at a 4 top. We had a server that seemed like he didn't want to be there or help us. He ultimately did and it was fine but the whole thing just felt off. It kind of felt like we were imposing on him for being there. The food was meh. The guacamole was really flavorful but everything else was just ok.
