Would never come back again. ============= This review got flagged by Yelp HQ, let me rewrite this and be clear of what happened. I walked into El Callejon Taqueria and Grill, located on 208 Galisteo St Santa Fe, NM 87501 on Aug 22 2026. It was on a Saturday night, right before 9pm. This was my first weekend in the city of Santa Fe, on both Yelp and Google this location shows the restaurant closes at 11pm. When I walked in the bartender told me that it was closed. I wouldn't care that a business is closed before the listed hours; it was the way the bartender went about it. He could have politely told me that the kitchen was closed, and I would not have had any problem with it. He walked up to me within arm's length and continuously repeated "sorry we are closed" multiple times while getting closer to me. It was one of the worst experiences I have had to get escorted "asked" out of a restaurant. The experience was not good. To be clear I never get to try the food here.

The thick cafeteria plates are hot when they arrive at the table. For today's lunch, I ordered an enchilada plate, swapping out one of the enchiladas for a chile relleno. My oh my did that hit the spot. The chicken enchilada was delicious. The chicken was moist and flavorful. The plate came with some posole, beans, and red and green sauce. I did not have a margarita with lunch, but have had margaritas there in the past. They're fine, though nothing spectacular. Do yourself a favor and skip the long line at the Shed.

I was told the wait was an hour. Not sure we believed it so we ordered takeout from the car. By the time we finished our order and paid for it, we get a notice that our table was ready. YIKES !!! Ok, so we went inside only to find an almost empty waiting area. This was about 8pm. What did they do with ALL those people???? We were guided to a table and noticed there were a few more empty tables. What did they do with all those people??? Found out it was International Film Festival weekend. So my advice is check the events page for Santa Fe and DON'T GO DURING AN EVENT. However, Tomasita's is a legend and a must so GO. And you might even find a few of those missing people.

Very glad I did--we nabbed a courtyard table, and enjoyed our time immensely. It's a beautiful, comfortable spot. The food was satisfying and generous. Really recommend the corn chowder--tons of flavor, great consistency. The huevos rancheros were solid, not spectacular. Just not as spicy as I would have liked and the pintos were just average. The pork sliders were awesome, a great deal. Service was friendly and efficient. Lots of solid pros working together.

We were not able to score one of the coveted reservations for dinner, so we braved the walk-in queue in the courtyard, which actually moved quite fast -- with a wait time of about 45 minutes for a party of two on a weekday night. The menu features all the classic New Mexican flavors you'd expect, from enchiladas to burritos, and the kitchen is happily open to accommodating most dietary restrictions. At our server's recommendation, we split a bowl of the Vegetarian Posole ($9). While it was packed with corn, butternut squash, green chile, and garlic, we both agreed it didn't quite live up to the massive hype. On the other hand, the entrees completely redeemed it. I thoroughly enjoyed the Tamale Plate ($18.50) -- two tamales (your choice of red pork chili or green veggie chili -- I did one of each) served with beans, Spanish rice, and a side of red or green chile that packs the perfect punch. My dining companion loved the Fish Tacos ($17.25), which came loaded with sautéed cod, avocado, cabbage, and a beautifully citrus-forward pico de gallo. Both of us thought the portions were filling without leaving us feeling stuffed and the flavors were completely spot on. Overall, a great 4-star experience with wonderful flavors, great value, and solid service despite the chaotic dinner rush!

This is a simple family restaurant with red booths and a no frills plastic booths filled patio. We were pleased they had a liquor license! Turns out it was a great choice for dinner, even though I didn't have a huge appetite tonight. No chips and salsa for free in this town, we plowed into drinks and entrees instead. Our server was a patient and relaxed young man, happy to take my order and then let me change it before he left the table. The $8 sangria was huge and boozy, in a sweet and very good way. Dos XX bottle came with a chilled salted mug and lime. Prices were reasonable. Our server was excited to serve me my first Frito pie ($9) with red chile, no beans, it was the perfectly sized smaller portion meal for me with no leftovers! I ate all of it, then maybe had a little regret. I wish I had ordered Christmas style to try both the red and green sauces, but the red was pretty spicy and I felt it the next day. Covered in lettuce, tomato, cheese and sour cream, it doesn't look like much on a plate but I am a big fan of Frito pie now! Husband had the Grande combo with beef taco, cheese enchilada (red), chicken tostada, rice, posole and beans. This is where Valentina's shines! The tostada chicken was extremely tender and moist shredded meat in a fluted blue corn tortilla cup. The cheese enchilada was gooey and perfect, the red sauce dark, rich and earthy. The beef taco crispy and satisfying. It seems in NM that posole is served with everything, feels strange to this Arizona gal to have hominy and pork as a side. It isn't super flavorful but its traditional, so we picked at it. This plate came with a flour tortilla to boot, overkill! Rice and beans were solid contributors, but this was a huge plate and a struggle to finish! In the end, it ended up being one of our most economical and memorable dinners in our week in Santa Fe, thanks Valentinos!
