We put our name on the list and were seated about an hour later - no worries, limited seating because of COVID guidelines, but just know there will likely be a long wait if you go in the evening! I ordered a mango margarita and shrimp enchiladas. Both super good, and enough food for me to take home (seems like their plates are pretty big because I saw a lot of people leave with to-go boxes). My sister got a pomegranate margarita and a chicken chimichanga and said she would give it a 4.5/5. Overall really good and will be back, but will plan for a less busy time! read more

Great find out near Phinney Ridge. It has a young, hip vibe, with colorful signage, lots of colorful decor. We had drinks initially with guacamole and chips & salsa. I tried the skinny margarita - it was pretty good. You can never go wrong with guacamole and chips & salsa. Hubs and I shared a smothered burrito with al pastor. We opted for both red and green sauce- or as my husband (from New Mexico) says "Christmas". The food was superb! We gobbled it all up! We had to try the fried ice cream - and it did not disappoint. Good old chuppie, Is it amazing, is it going to blow your mind and send you soaring on some sort of magical food journey? No, but it's solid. Let me be clear, you want the wet burrito, everything else on the menu doesn't matter, the wet burrito is king, it is a heavy sloppy mess of glory that will lull you into a food coma. Was really hoping the food here would be good, but sadly it was a let down. My husband and I both had veggie burritos (mine vegan) and both were super bland. There was no salsa so the burritos were super dry. There was a pineapple salsa on the table in a bottle but it really wasn't tasty. The server also took my credit card then brought the check and card back not having run it. I had to go and wait for a while for them to finally run it. Chips aren't the best- but the salsa is delicious! I had the pazole- it was sooo flavorful, but wasn't a pazole my family would make. This version had carrots and bits of celery, almost like a better chicken noodle but with pork. Either way it was really really good! I would recommend. My husband got the enchiladas and cleaned up his plate. Our friends got tacos and the serving size was generous! I can only base my review off of the margaritas as well as chips and salsa; all of which were relatively mediocre. The mango margarita was incredibly sweet and a bit watered down. The cadillac margarita was slightly better and worth going back for if you're looking for a Marg under $12. Went here for the first time last week. It was so good I wanted to go back the next day!! We arrived just in time for a happy hour house margarita while waiting for our table. NOTE: there is a sign in sheet for a table in the middle of the restaurant. It should be closer to the door. The house margarita is the best house margarita I've had outside of Mexico. No fake sugary mixer used here. It was so good we HAD to have a second one. ;) Got seated at a table in about 10 minutes time. Ordered a basket of chips with their in house made guacamole & salsa fresco. Excellent! Sampled all the hot sauces on the table too & especially liked the chipotle pineapple sauce & am inspired to try to make my own. Hubby had the large fish burrito with cheese & sauce added to the top. It truly is large. He took about 1/4 of it home. He loved it so much he had it again on our return visit. I had the street tacos with pork al pastor. Normally served with 2 corn tortillas so they hold up better. These weren't so they were a little messy to eat. No worries. They are not served with rice & beans but I was full enough on the 3 tacos so I didn't miss them. On our fist last night I ordered the chicken verde enchiladas. They are served with a red enchilada sauce so you do lose a bit of the verde flavor. Not sure if green sauce is an option but if so I think it would be even better. Large chunks of white chicken inside. I brought 1 home with half of my whole pinto beans. (Substituted for red fried black beans). This is our new favorite restaurant. Loved all the non meat options. Got the mock steak added to my veggie tacos. Sooo good! Their hot sauces (not so hot) are a fabulous addition to the flavor combinations. The food isn't that great for how awful the service is. Literally, go anywhere else. In theory, the food, drinks and ambiance have it mostly down. But I'm not sure management knows how to hire anyone who is nice, or at least happy to be there. I've lived in the phinney hood for years and probably will never go back. read more

I've been coming here for a few years now. The punk rock/cantina/Halloween vibe makes for a great pick-me-up when I'm feeling down. Like much of the fare in Greenwood/Phinney, it's pretty OK. But there are a couple standouts. Get the TOTS! They are the crispiest I've ever had and the sauce it comes with is also bomb (especially when you add some of the squeeze bottle table salsa in there). Their Chimichangas are very decent and reliable. I usually get the Carnitas, but the chicken Tinga is also pretty flavorful even if it's a little dry. Drinks are alright. At the end of the day it's hard to go wrong with their house Margarita. The service here is usually pretty good. We usually come for lunch and have never had a problem. All in all, you have to give this place a try. It's a beloved local institution with a fun and lively atmosphere and pretty decent food. read more

Finally, finally we made it to the legendary El Chupacabra! And we were not disappointed. The small veggie burrito I ordered started out with bites of mostly rice and too little avocado, a problem with any burrito. The saving grace were the flavors that really made the meal delicious. That fresh pico de gallo was everything, and when paired with the chipotle pineapple sales - yes! I went to El Chupacabra last Monday and dined on the outdoor patio - it was toasty due to the outdoor heaters. I didn't try any of the food but the server was very generous in offering me hot water for my tea bag. Yesterday, I returned to the restaurant with my girlfriend and we ordered a chicken tinga chimichanga and I had a carnitas chimichanga. We ordered some chips and salsa on the side, and my girlfriend had a pineapple pomegranate vodka cocktail. The chimichangas came out quickly and they were superb. I wish the menu had noted that sour cream was drizzled atop the chimichanga as I am lactose-intolerant and wiped it off. Ah well. My partner was thrilled with her chimichanga and asked if we could make this our regular spot. Will be back. Our total was maybe $40. read more

I love coming here in Spring or Summer and eating on the patio. The food is solid too! I always get the same thing, a chimichanga, but the tacos and everything else look good too. Just a nice place for Mexican food and sitting outside. Sitting inside is not as nice, though, especially in the summer. First off - I'm from Texas. This is the first and only place I approve of for Tex Mex in Seattle! It's the kind of food that's laid back, reasonably priced, and just hits the spot. We've done this place twice now. Once for take out, and once for dine-in. Both were great. I've gone with the mission burrito both times and I don't see a reason to order anything else! Make it wet with red & green sauce... I'm a big eater and the large size was almost too much for me. Chips are decent and the salsa has a nice spice to it. The cod tacos got a good review from the wife. We did the happy hour house made margaritas and those were just ok...they needed a little bit of sweetness to balance the sour. Overall this is a great local Mexican joint with some good food and a cool vibe! read more
