Love love love that they have vegan options!! It's so hard to find vegan options in Mexican restaurants that aren't just giving "remove the meat and cheese and sour cream and hey, at least it's vegan even though there's literally nothing substantial left" vibes, lol. Instead, El Chupacabra has multiple vegan meat options and also vegan cheese that is actually tasty! So you don't feel shortchanged at all like at a lot of Mexican restaurants where the so-called vegan option is just some puny beans and lettuce thrown into a tortilla wrap. I normally get take-out, but this time we ate in. The server was super nice and fast and efficient. The vibes are dark and dive-y, with cute gothic decor (think sparkly bats and skeleton humour). The food was acceptable (Seattle just doesn't really do good Mexican food so that's the highest compliment I can usually give at a Mexican place, lol). The guacamole was good and had a nice little kick to it. The portion sizes were excellent. I had the vegan enchiladas with one "steak" and one "chicken" and liked both mock meats. My only slight gripe was cleanliness -- there were some cobwebs hanging over the seating divider and the booth itself had some crumbs etc. before we sat down -- but these didn't really negatively affect my opinion, just that the place could stand a bit of a deep clean after hours perhaps. read more

Warm July evening- Friday, waited about ten minutes for a seat on the deck. Friendly service, if maybe a little...aloof? But whatever...they were super busy. Chips, salsa and guac to start. It was nothing special. Tasty but not unique...just chips and salsa. Drinks next- house marg for me. I had two so ‍. Skinny marg for my friend. It lacked flavor. Horchata for the kid. He liked it but was not overwhelmed. He wasn't underwhelmed either. I suppose that means he was 'whelmed.' I had the carne asada enchiladas with red sauce. Pretty good, though the main spice coming through was salt. Others had chicken enchiladas and the chimichangas. All around we enjoyed it but were not raving. The atmosphere was pleasant. Loud music dominated a little... The price was reasonable, I suppose...$100 not counting tip, for three people. I ordered two enchiladas and could only eat one. Everyone else cleaned their plate. Visited El Chupacabra's deck on a gorgeous July noon. The place was quiet, allowing for instant self-seating. The shaded deck created a relaxing vibe, perfect for sipping margaritas, munching on chips and salsa, and enjoying a burrito. The deck's ambiance is fantastic, with full shade across all seats--ideal for lingering with drinks and browsing the web. I didn't check for Wi-Fi, and my iPhone signal was weak, but it didn't detract from the experience. The chips & salsa portion was massive, easily enough for two or more. The salsa reminded me of a watery Pico de Gallo. I only ate about a fifth the chips and, since they came with my meal, I'd skip ordering this separately next time unless with a group and having drinks. The 10" burrito was substantial; I ate two-thirds and couldn't finish it. They offered to pack it up, but it was too messy to save. Next time, I might try a crispy chimichanga. Overall, lunch was enjoyable, though the bill for drinks, chips, and an entree hit around $40--higher than expected, but fine for a carefree day. read more

My friend and I like to come here late on a Sunday night after she's done her work for the day. Usually should get the Pacifico and I'll get a margarita of some kind. I don't like the sweet but I like the citrus, so bartender extraordinaire Matt models the lime really well add extra soda to make it tall and delivers the perfect bitter fizzy cocktail for me. Recommend you always get the chips and salsa, because they have three side salsas to come with the fresh pico -- and the pineapple salsa is outstanding. My friend always gets the same thing, two enchiladas all beans no rice with red sauce. And I usually get some form of Christmas burrito -- meaning red and green sauce -- usually carnitas but sometimes Carne Asada -- and it's delicious. There's always enough for leftovers for the next day, if you order the large. I like to take the leftovers home to my son who appreciates the deliciousness. This place delivers. On a rainy night, there's a fireplace and plenty of locals who know where the Hospitality is. Try to sit at the bar if you can. Our neighborhood is lucky to have this place. read more

We've been a few times now and the spouse and I have always had a good time. Plenty of vegan options, substitutions, alternatives, and such. The meaty folks we've gone with have enjoyed their food as well. The staff have always been great. They have a decent selection of beer, including some seasonal rotations. They also have a great selection of hot sauces to choose from- wellll beyond Tabasco, Tapatío, and Cholula. I feeling got this. Place are so complicated, as a vegetarian. The offers of plant-based meats and cheeses is so awesome!! They even taste delicious. This place has literally the best sausage of any bread I've ever eaten. However, the service is truly terrible. Three times we waved at called out to and attempted to flag down our server with no success. Came here on a hot July evening, to enjoy their deck. My take on 92 degree weather: Too hot to not be outside, too early to go to bed. Their deck is a great place to hang out, with a cold margarita and walfs of cooler air. Unfortunately, the experience goes straight downhill from here. After being served, Our margaritas are lukewarm after sitting for a half hour after ordered. Arrived watered down. Chips and salsa arrive after the margaritas. Chips are stale and salsa is watered down. Server is new and totally clueless on menu. One positive point I appreciate, is that they do offer vegan options on the menu. Please educate your staff on being able to answer questions about the menu ingredients and recommendations. Overall, There is this misguided spirit here. Like this place started with some great ideas. But, in implementation, It just falls flat in carrying it out. Resulting in Low standards for food. There are many mistakes, including Poor cooking techniques and food presentation. Also, service is lacking. There is Often rude staff. I understand you are may be understaffed. Me merely showing up at your restaurant is not worthy of staff scorn. I can easily experience rude service at a number of local restaurants, which I will no longer patronize. And I am a very easy to deal with customer. Another recommendation: Make sure you improve your cocktail service.Cocktails no one wants to order more than once, is no bueno. Especially in a Mexican style restaurant. Where is the hint of welcoming? Please shame me into ordering too much and leaving a big tip, because I feel so welcomed by your staff. Season your food. I come here to experience food tasting different from the usual Ango-American blandness. Give me a treat, something I can't get in an American diner. And, all your items appear indistinguishable from each other. Use different ingredients and sauces, to make a taco different from a burrito. Fish burritos would be much better if served warm. This is the second time we've been there and I'm absolutely surprised at the negative comments. The service was prompt and pleasant and the vibe casual. We ordered several different types of street tacos to share, shrimp, veggie, and beer battered. All were done well, shrimp was a little more spicy but delicious. They have three types of salsa, don't miss the pineapple habanero. So good. You can get the tacos with sides of beans and rice but didn't need any more. We had a couple of tacos left and asked for a container for the habanero sauce and the server nicely got us a bigger container and poured a good size amount and then gave us an additional one for what we had on the table. El Chupacabra is an accommodating Tex-Mex type of spot that seems to really appeal to groups and a younger crowd with its red lighting and industrial metal sounding tunes pumped through the speakers. It was mostly average from start to finish here. It wasn't really that busy on drizzly weekday evening. A few groups eating and Dashers here and there doing pickups, but it took a couple minutes to locate someone to help us be seated so that was a bit choppy. Waitress points to an available table we can sit at which was clean but looked like it could use a sweep under it. To start I got a house margarita at $7 that was pretty good. we got Tacho's for the table. I was expecting something a bit more interesting, maybe it's my fault for not simply asking but they're basically Tater tots with queso dip and some garnish. Very shareable with 3-4 people but forgettable beyond that. Wouldn't recommend. I got a burrito bowl, and the portion again is quite large, enough to save for leftovers unless you're real hungry. The presentation was ok, on a nice sized plate but everything was in a separate corner which I found a bit weird rather than it be stacked or side by side like maybe a chipotle burrito bowl. The Salsa was all on the left, the cheese all at the top of the plate, the meat on the right and the greens just kind of all over. The Carne asada was pretty decent actually. Decently seasoned and a fair portion. A great and easy going time. I've popped in a couple times now. Once for brunch on a weekend and another for dinner after a few drinks down the street at a wine bar. This place has a great atmosphere, they offer a covered patio that is perfect for the summer or for those braver few that enjoy listening to the rain. But as a restaurant, all the food items are super simple and taste the same. They have maybe 3-4 proteins.. whether you get a taco, burrito, quesadilla, whatever.... Was so hungry when the food came I forgot to take pictures. I ordered to a la cart tacos. A fried fish taco and a vegetarian taco. The fried fish taco was one of the best fish tacos I've had in a long time. A perfectly fried piece of fish with a yummy sauce on top with a cool crisp slaw. I shared a side of rice and beans with my lunch company which came with three sides of salsas. They were so spicy!! Except for one little side of a mango salsa. The margarita was so good! Very tasty Mexican food with tons of vegan options, including some really nicely done vegan meats. I stopped in for lunch on a Saturday, was able to find a seat right away, and a server came to take my order within a few minutes. They have an expansive menu that was tough to make a decision on. Ultimately, I ordered some vegan enchiladas (comes with two) with red sauce, one with vegan steak and one with vegan chicken -- the dish comes with refried beans and rice ($16 plus tax). The food came out in about 10-15 mins with a generous portion. The enchiladas were really nicely done -- the vegan steak was cooked particularly nicely, being somewhat crispy and charred like steak. The red sauce was great, and their homemade salsas amp things up beautifully. Honestly couldn't ask for much more. Large menu, tons of vegan-friendly items, friendly service, and pretty good value. Me and my friends came here to grab drinks, eat, and watch the Love Island finale on our phone while enjoying each other's company. We weren't bothering anyone, just sitting in a booth, completely out of the way, minding our own business. The restaurant was loud already, and our show was playing at a low volume. I had been meaning to try this place and wanted Mexican. The positives are that the Al Pastor Mission Burrito, service, and ambiance are great. I don't know if the prices are temporary, but I guess I didn't know they charged for chips and salsa, plus $4 for a can of Diet Coke is pretty damn steep. It's been a long time since I've been here but my partner's folks were in town and were crazy some sit-down Mexican. We had another choice which ended up being closed so we came to El Chup, with the idea of a happy hour marg before dinner. The restaurant was busy but not crowded, plenty of staff and the atmosphere was welcoming and pleasant. Happy hour runs from 4-6pm and there are a few appetizers and drinks on it. Loved seeing a short margarita as an option so we had that and nachos. Perfect way to start our meal. The salsa are fabulous, especially the very hot (maybe habanero?) one. I smothered it on and paid for it, in the very best way possible. Such good flavor! For dinner I had the special chile relleno, my partner had fish tacos and Moms had the chimichanga. We all loved our food, ordered with rice and beans (extra charge but worth it) and it was a good move. Service is funny, observant and kind and treated us very well. Don't know why this isn't on our go-to roster of easy dinner spots but it will be now. Bonus, the prices are super reasonable. read more

I've been going here for years! Not sure why they are rated lower than a 4 or 5! The burritos are huge and so good. All the delicious flavors all together in one wrap. Count me in! When I need a burrito fix this is my place! It's small inside so you may have to wait a bit. They also have an outdoor patio which is lovely when the sun comes up. I usually start by reviewing food, but with El Chupacabra I have to start with the ambiance. I adore their big front deck, winter or summer. Seating (inside and out) is comfortable, and tables are spacious and far apart. This place has a rustic "old Seattle hippie" vibe that is so comfortable and relaxing. Great place to hang out with a beer or margarita. The food is old-school "West Coast Mexican." In addition to the usual burrito and taco offerings, they have crispy tacos, which can be hard to find in Seattle. The fillings have some non-traditional flavorings, but they're tasty because the ingredients are good quality. El Chupacabra is generous with their (three types of) salsa. read more
