As I had mentioned earlier, they offer great gluten free dishes. So I ordered the Gluten free blueberry french toast. Holy moley, this is droolworthy. It tasted like CAKE!!! Super moist and fluffy with blueberries bursting with every single bite. It's not too sweet and the whipped butter adds a great salty note to the sweetness. Beautifully balanced. Even if you don't normally choose gluten free food, you should definitely give this one a shot. Other dishes my famjam ordered were the Crab cakes benedict. It was a good crab cake served on an English muffin topped with a slice of steak tomato and a nice hollandaise sauce. They also added their homemade hashbrowns and a side of fresh fruit. Again, beautifully done! The other dish we ordered was a spinach and chicken skillet with 2 poached eggs. Super yummy and hearty. Our waitress was great. This place is awful. I ordered Blackstone Benedict. Hollandaise tasted terrible, as if it was made out of straight mayonnaise. Bacon was awfully dry, and potatoes were lukewarm and tasteless. I adored my breakfast here, just adored it. It's a nice roomy place with two separate areas. The tables are nicely spaced away from each other and as a result, you can be comfortable and talk to each other. I ordered the Crunchy French toast combo with juice and coffee. Everything was great but the French toast, oh my the French toast. It was simply divine. I don't live near Wheaton but I wish I did because I cannot wait to have that dish again. Egg'lectic Cafe is always extremely busy. It's teeming with people in the foyer and just outside the door, waiting for the host to beckon them to their chosen table. I actually always get excited whenever they call my party's name, that is until I remember that I'll be eating at Egg'lectic. Besides a few fruity waffle dishes and their delicious sides of bacon, the rest of their menu is bland and ill-prepared. Stay away from the regular and breakfast burgers as well; I've ordered them three times and each time, it's been severely undercooked. If you tell the waitstaff your burger is undercooked, they won't stick it back on the grill. They will microwave it - it's happened twice. The atmosphere is actually pretty vibrant and loud. It's located on a well-traveled intersection of downtown Wheaton. It's got very high visibility and name recognition so it's got a lot of appeal in that way. It's tough to find close-proximity parking on the streets but there is a parking garage about a block away that always has spaces. Oddly enough, I've found that if you don't dress in your "Sunday best," you won't get treated as well nor will they place you at a nice table. This isn't completely anecdotal either, I've been dragged here often enough to experiment. Contact me if you'd like abstracts of my findings. There's a huge menu selection and plenty for someone who doesn't care for meat with her breakfast. The choose your ingredient scrambler was my choice today, with onions, peppers, and mushrooms. Plus pancakes - good, fluffy tasty pancakes - why are they difficult to pull off? They do them right here. Very fresh ingredients, reasonable prices, strong coffee, nice folks. Egg'lectic always has some tasty food, the service is ok, but they are always packed. The food gets 4 stars. They have a good selection to choose from on the menu. I don't think I've ever been disappointed in a meal at Egg'lectic. The pancakes are good, eggs are always cooked right, and the omelet's are yummy. The service is just ok. Nothing special, but nothing bad either. I always feel like I need to flag down a waitress, but they get so busy, I wouldn't count that against them. I thought this place was great. Worlds beyond Egg Harbor in terms of choices. The had some innovative stuff on their menu that you don't feel like a bluehair ordering. I had the Bacon Quesadilla. My wife had the shroom scram or somesuch, and really liked it. The Child's griddle plate is a hell of a lot of food for $3.99. I forget how cute Downton Wheaton is. Egg'lectic cafe seems like the perfect fit in Wheaton--cute and homey and feeding us well. Michele S and I stopped in after we completed the Cosley Zoo 5K Run for the animals. We almost didn't stop by because we thought it would be crowded after the run. Luckily, we were able to get seated right away! 5k's and breakfast, one of my favorite ways to start the day. The menu is huge but is full of the basics--pancakes, french toast, omelets, skillets, crepes, egg dishes, benedicts. So much to choose from. I had my eye on the Frosted Flakes french toast because yes, as an adult, i do like a bowl of FF from time to time. But what I didn't want was a sweet only breakfast. Glad I noticed the combos, because I was able to order eggs your way and sausage/bacon and one slice of Frosted Flakes french toast. If you've never met me or read my reviews, just know that I freakin' love breakfast/brunch. And this combo was perfect. Eggs fluffy and scrambled perfectly the sausage nicely seasoned. And that french toast--delicious. My friend's skillet looked really good and they were able to make it as specified--half potatoes only. which makes a lot of sense because sometimes there's just too much potato in the skillet dish. Had a lovely breakfast this morning under the tent! Service was quick and superb! I had the Santa Fe frittata which was absolutely delicious! I'm not really a big breakfast person so enjoying my meal as much as I did was a delightful suprise! I chose fruit as my side and the selection was all perfectly ripe and delicious as well. If all you want to do is have a good meal served quickly and don't mind noise & interruptions, then this cafe is one of the top choices for downtown Wheaton. If you want to really visit with guests or family members, you will only go away annoyed and frustrated. Wait staff will interrupt to ask about coffee or water even if you are obviously deep in conversation. I have even put my hand over my cup as an advanced answer to the inevitable question, and yet they still interrupt and ask! Perhaps they're actually robots... Mind you, this has been my experience 95% of the time over a period of many years. Why 3 stars instead of 4 when the food is consistently good? - For me the entire dining experience is what I rate. Definitely the best breakfast around (in the west burbs). The food is delicious. I had the crepes with a sesame seed sauce and avocados, DELICIOUS! I would go back just for that. As a Wheaton College student, this is one of those places we hear about that is a "must go to" restaurant freshman year, but by senior year I think the majority opinion is that the three stars given on Yelp is a pretty accurate. Service has been hit or miss when I have gone and I sadly feel like Goldilocks when I think about the waitresses I've had... some have been too overbearing and wouldn't leave us alone, some were never to be seen after our order was placed, and some were 'just right.' The food here is good, but not great. I normally get the bacon waffle or French toast (with nutella, yum!) and almost always leave with that full feeling everyone loves about breakfast joints leading to a food coma later that afternoon. Personally, I'd look elsewhere for a breakfast joint, but if you have tried all the others then this place is a fine establishment to see if you like the way they do things. read more

My favorite place to eat in college. Three times a week, I'd wake up at 9:30a, rush to my car in my sweats, drive to Egg'lectic, order the bacon waffles with an overeasy egg, scarf it down, pay my $12 bucks, then head to class by 10:30a. Oh, I'd also brush my teeth before I went to class, but taking a shower in the morning when you go to Wheaton isn't the smartest thing as you would most likely freeze to death as you walk to your car. Its so cold in the winter that if you keep your eyes open long enough, the moisture in your eyes will freeze and as you blink, a thin sheet of ice will fall out. Everything they have is good - from the skillets to the omelets, take your pick. My favorite thing about this place is the unique spin they take on breakfast with cinnamon roll french toast, banana bread french toast and several other variations of pancakes and french toast options. You will not be sorry ordering the banana bread french toast that is my favorite but any of the p ankcakes/french toast options are a good choice. And I love that they have combos so you don't have to choose between the classic eggs and meat or french toast. You can get both! And the portions are huge! My husband raves about the omelettes here! They are again huge and come loaded with toppings of your choice. They are the best omelettes I have ever eaten as well. If you are in the area this is a place you wont regret check in out. Been here a few times since my first review. They are consistently inconsistent, but I keep going back, so they're doing something right. Breakfast food is very good. Portions aren't gigantic, but you will be filled up. Prices are very reasonable. I usually order an omelette with pancakes. There was a time when I ordered a BLT, and that was good too. The problem isn't the food; it is the service. There's a 50/50 split. Some waitresses are great: very attentive, talkative, and upbeat. My past two experiences have been the opposite. The waitresses have looked at me or one of my dining partners as if we were crazy when we asked for things repeatedly. Forgetfulness is not a trait to be desired for a server. Also, substiutions should not be difficult. Even when we acknowledge an up charge, some of the waitresses still won't make them. what the heck? Most of the waitresses here are great, but there are a select few who need to get the stick out of their you know what. read more

I came around 10:45 on a Saturday morning and got seated right away. The coffee was smooth and good- no bitterness. I got the steak skillet with 2 eggs and pancakes on the side for $11. It was pretty good. For a breakfast place, the portions were smaller than other places. I was actually able to finish both the pancakes and skillet which rarely happens! I usually like taking home the leftovers to have for a partial meal later in the day so this part was a disappointment. They hired a Santa to walk around and wish people a Merry Christmas. A 2.5 rating...in "downtown Wheaton", its just about the only place to go for breakfast. Good food overall, but if you have no fear of cholesterol the skillets are the best (bacon and onion lovers, I'm talking to you) and the avocado omelette is fab also. Portions are large. Shortcomings...the toast is always cold. Always. Sometimes the potatoes are too. We've been there multiple times and found the service is just so-so. No matter what time of the day we're there, the waitresses seem to love to congregate behind the counter and talk, talk, talk. You have to throw a flare to get a coffee refill. Ironically, they stand and talk right in front of the coffee station, which is right there also, but there seems to be a disconnect... I didn't think the prices were that bad, but one day we were walking out and an older couple who had just moved to Wheaton asked if there was any other place to have breakfast...they found the prices to be too expensive. We gave them other options away from the "downtown" (cough) area. May be expensive to some, I found it about standard. I can't complain about the quality of food here. I come most often for brunch, and they have so many options for breakfast food! I usually get something different every time. Their lunch options are pretty decent too, though a bit more limited than I'd like. Since I like me some breakfast-for-lunch, though, that doesn't concern me too much. I'd eat here all the time, except for one problem: the food is WAY overpriced. Just a cup of coffee is over 2 dollars (i.e., more than even Starbucks charges). Sure, you get refills every now and then, but the coffee doesn't taste all that great--certainly, not good enough to justify the price tag. And the food is just as expensive. Even an extremely basic meal--say, 2 scrambled eggs with toast and bacon--comes out to about 7 bucks with tax (and that doesn't count a decent tip, which would take it close to $10). Again, the food's not bad, but it's not nearly good enough to justify such pricing. You could make it just as well yourself for a fraction of the cost. Again, I like everything else about the place--the staff is friendly, the atmosphere nice, and the food decent--but I always come away feeling like I've been gouged by the check. It's a great place for an occasional Saturday breakfast, but too expensive for me to afford coming regularly. read more

Found this place on google. Stayed in the south suburbs and Sunday morning was calling for a brunch. This is place is situated in downtown next to the train station what makes it very easy to visit coming from Chicago. Very nice and clean place with a great seat organization. You can come in alone or with a big group of people. Each and every will find the right size table for themselves. The signature sausage I was offered was the best I ever tried. We needed food stat, and we were already 5 minutes late to the apt. My mom ran inside and asked if they do take out: perfect, they are more than happy to accommodate us. She ordered two quick BLTs, but the princess in me had to speak up and say that I didn't like bacon and didn't want a BLT. (I know, I know. I get crap for not liking bacon all the time.) So they quickly changed my order to a turkey club (which ended up being HUGEEEE) and my mom nommed on her BLT before we migrated across the street. They took our payment ASAP, offered us drinks and water, even though we had already paid, and made sure that we had everything we needed. I only wish the food was as good as the menu makes it sound. After two visits I have come to the conclusion that this is an OK breakfast place but nothing to get too excited about. The flavors run from bland to acceptable. My Huevos Rancheros lacked kick and my Crabmeat Benedict (forget the real name) was passable. The dish was saved by some really nice potato pancakes. I love me my eggs benny and I'm always excited when I see something a little different. They have a lobster and asparagus eggs benny and I knew I had to try it. I kinda was thinking they were gonna skimp out on the lobster since it was only around $12 and it's some little breakfast joint in Wheaton - but they did not! There was a ton of lobster and a ton of asparagus which really made it a killer eggs benny. I swapped my country potatoes or whatever they call them for hash browns...even though their hash browns weren't that great either. Still definitely worth it to try out this eggs benny, I would go back and have this again. There are 2 locations, the one one Hale and another in Old Town Square (Naperville Rd, north of Butterfield) that I go to now. Sick if the same old breakfast? I was, until I found this gem. It's definitely a step above your typical breakfast/lunch joint. The food is consistently above average, healthy and not so healthy variety that goes beyond your standard fare and 95% of the time a super friendly and efficient staff. But hey, no one's perfect. My husband and I go here every Sunday! The service here is always amazing (we've been going there every weekend for a year now) and the food is always perfect. We always go there for their breakfast menu: their skillets and omelettes are the best. My only advice though, and this is the only reason I've seen people complain, is don't be silly and go during Sunday rush. Sunday rush is when all of the church crowd and hungover teens are all coming to eat breakfast (11-1PM) usually so you MAY have to wait awhile to be seated. That's not the restaurant's fault - that's the nature of Sunday Rush. The food is good, the coffee variety is good and the service is good. Mostly booths available too, which is nice! read more

We've been coming to Eggclectic since they opened some 20 years ago. A wonderful family tradition. Great food, and super friendly staff. Just today, the hostess remembered my father who passed away 10 years ago. Really nice people. The butcher shop omelette is one of my favorites, and their Eggs Benedict are fantastic too. Don't miss the amazing almond French toast filled with cream cheese. They also have really good healthy breakfasts too. I used to come to this place quite a bit, but have lately found it to be less than satisfying. I visited last Saturday with my family, we arrived early AM, so there was not a wait. We were promptly greeted and served coffee. I had the crab cake Benedict, my spouse had the classic Benedict, and my folks had a french toast combo, and a cinnamon french toast. I'll start with the Benedict's. The hollandaise sauce was horrible. I don't know if there wasn't enough butter, but it was watery and flavorless. The crab cakes didn't taste very fresh, so the hollandaise kind of just killed the whole dish. My spouse agreed with me on the sauce... The side item's were potato pancakes and fruit. The potato pancakes seemed under cooked, and I was really disappointed to receive day old (at least) fruit. It was slimey and discolored and I just couldn't eat it. My folks seemed somewhat happy with their dishes, and my father like the sausage links. I wasn't impressed by the bites I stole from their plates. Visited yesterday for the first time for breakfast. This is a traditional, homey breakfast place with good food and big portions. Our server was super friendly and patient as we decided what to order from their huge menu. We ended up ordering three different omelettes, which was more than enough food for four people. The omelettes, potatoes and pancakes were really tasty, and we had leftovers. The only criticism would be the coffee. There are so many small regional coffee roasters nearby, and I feel like they could greatly improve the quality of the coffee with a local roaster. read more
