Chicken in black bean sauce, lemon chicken, fried rice
Mike B.

Egg Roll King in Lemon Valley really missed the mark. I grew up eating egg roll king and usually do not expect much but my most recent visit was disappointing. The food was bleh, the service was unfriendly and the dining area could use a deep cleaning. The chicken with black bean sauce was mostly onions and the chicken was almost nonexistent. Sadly, the egg drop soup had no flavor at all. When I received my order I asked for hot oil and sweet and sour sauce. The lady behind the counter slid it down my direction with some attitude like I was asking for too much. The old man with her had a lot of sass too. Then again, he's always been sassy for as long as I can remember. Lol As for the dining area, I noticed the chairs had a lot of grease build up. I would have loved to support egg roll king and have for a long time but I do not feel comfortable recommending them at the moment. I wish them well and hope things would get better.

Still my go-to Chinese place for easy and quick dinners. Idk if I mentioned it in my last review but they are SUPER FAST, like call and order and in 10 mins it's all ready to go. Also adding a new menu photo as I noticed the others are pretty outdated.

5:30 pm and shopping at smiths. Decided I didn't want to cook so called to order Togo. Their Phone is broke. Drove across the road to place order. Long long line expected since it's dinner time. Counter guy was very rude. Yelling at people. Had to wait about 10 min to order, then 15 min for food. While paying, I used a debit card. I always throw cash in the jar depending on how fast they take care of me. The old guy at the counter took the signed debit receipt, turned to the lady at the food window pointed at the zero tip, started yelling and making lots of gesture. The girl looked at me, and just shook her head and discuss. The guy looked me in the eye said a bunch of Chinese things, threw his hands up in the air and then slam the cash register. As I sat down waiting for the food, the guy kept looking at me yelling some stuff and the girl kept nodding in agreement and looking at me. Since when is tipping to pick up some food an entitlement. A friendly guy at the counter, asking how I can be helped, greeting me nicely. Telling me in a friendly way that my food will be ready. Sorry about the line, something else other than yelling at customers and slamming stuff around. You are not entitled to a tip. Gratuity is for service and expediency, Good quality food, nice and friendly. Not only do you have to earn it, but why would I tip before getting my food and checking it. No one goes to sit down at dinner and tips the waiter before they get their food. Though we love the Mushu here and the Singapore noodles, not sure if I will be back.

Sesame chicken and beef and broccoli

I used to really love this place, but recently, the food has not been good. I've never seen sesame chicken with a clear flavorless sauce, and the beef was so chewy and inedible. Hopefully they turn it around soon.

Orange chicken chef special, wonton soup, and an order of crab Rangoons we absolutely decimated. lol so good

Amazing food, GREAT price, and everything is fresh. So good, definitely recommend! We ordered crab rangoon, orange chicken chef special and an order of wonton soup that was fresh and delicious

I was craving Chinese food and I was out in Lemmon Valley. The closet one to me was Egg Roll King. I have never been there before, so I wanted to give it a try. It wasn't too busy, so I was able to put an order in right away. I got the sesame chicken and sweet & sour chicken with chicken chowmein. I also got crab rangoon. It was only a 10-15 minute wait from when I ordered till I got my food! So it is fast food, haha ;) Prices are fair. Not expensive at all. The taste of the food is satisfactory. Chicken wasn't too doughy. The chowmein was full of chicken. The crab rangoon was great! My favorite part of the meal. There wasn't a lot of sauce on the sweet and sour chicken, but it actually was good because it was enough for flavor. Not overwhelmingly sweet. Recommend if you are out in the North Valleys!

Sesame chicken, kung pao chicken, and chow mein

My wife and I both got a hankering for Chinese take-out and we ended up ordering from here for the first time since it was close. Ordering was easy on the phone, was told it'd be ready in about 15 minutes. I drove down and went inside. They have good indicators for social distancing and have a plexi-glass screen between the workers and the customers. The food we go was your typical Chinese take-out quality...not like sitting down at P.F. Changs, but good, and nice-sized portions. We ended up getting two meals out of our order that totaled $32. We'll be going back the next time we have that "hankering".

House chow mein

Did a quick drop-in to this tiny restaurant. Husband was craving the house chow mein and I was craving the hot and sour soup. Chow mein is super simple, filling and tasty. The soup was a little heavy on the white pepper seasoning, but decent overall. Can always depend on egg roll king and their quick service.

The portions were generous with plenty of leftovers to pack up in takeout boxes for enjoying for another day. My favorite three were the ahi tuna, the black cod and the brilliant asian/french mash up of red Bean Creme Brulee. I also need to mention, I loved the lamb tenderloin. I am not a big lamb fan, but this New Zealand lamb was tender and non-gamey. The owners did an outstanding job of timing the dishes and engaging with our group while also taking care of other diners including non event patrons getting getting take-out and inhouse menu dining. The space is very small, but even with and almost full house, it didn't feel cramped. Even though Kwok's is right across the street from where I live, this restaurant would be at the top of my list of "I would drive out of my way to eat here"

To start, you can't go wrong with the enthusiastic welcome we always receive. Then quickly seated and wine poured. The 2026 CNY menu was fabulous, with some great surprises. The ahi tartare portion anywhere else would have been a shareable appetizer. But each person was served a large portion of delicious fresh ahi. Mmmm this course and a glass of wine could be dinner alone any other evening. The soft creamy rich egg custard was hidden under a thick seafood gravy. I really enjoyed this unique dish. The miso black cod is always flaky and delicious. And the crab fried rice it's nestled on also never disappoints. The rich New Zealand stir fried lamb and shiitake mushrooms over pea shoots was a fabulous hearty dish on this chilly March evening. The braised short ribs were so tender no knife was needed, they flaked apart with the fork. And the e mein noodles were perfectly al dente. The dinner wrapped up with a crème brûlée that only Kwok's could pull off - red bean. Creamy smooth. Not overwhelming. The perfect burnt sugar layer on top. The regular menu is just as delicious. Small inside seating area, so recommend always make a reservation. In the summer there's a fabulous patio area out front. Limited street parking.

In case you're not aware, though the name of this restaurant references a specific city in northern China and the menu has dishes from across the country, their specialty is the spicy and numbing cuisine of the Sichuan region. If you've never had this before, when you see dishes listed as spicy, they may be very different from what you're thinking. It's certainly can be a polarizing experience, with many loving this flavor and many not into it at all, but the broad menu makes this a great call for everyone. Now I love dining with others who are familiar because it lets you explore the menu through their eyes and enjoy selections made by others with taste diverse from yours. My friend picked several dishes I would've never noticed or ordered blindly this time, and I'm so happy about that. We enjoyed the cold Woodear or black fungus in chili oil, classic snow pea tips with garlic, as well as the quintessential Sichuan cumin lamb, but the other three dishes we had were 100% new to me. Those included Sichuan snails (unshelled in an oily spicy stir fry), scallops with garlic and vermicelli, and crispy spicy intestines. The snails were a win. These are small and somewhat chewy morsels that get wok fried with fried chili, chili oil, peppers and onions. The texture is similar to sautéed calamari, but a bit firmer, and the sauce coats everything with that signature numbing heat. The scallops were the big miss. This dish typically comes in the half shell with fresh scallops, but here they're using a lower quality scallop (likely frozen) and a lot of pre-minced garlic (like you'd find in a jar). It looks impressive but the scallops had absolutely not flavor and the texture was rubbery too. Skip this one for sure. The intestines were the surprise. I've had fried intestines and they crunch like a chip and have no distinct flavor that lets you know what you're eating. These were sliced on the bias and wok tossed until super crispy on the outside with a delicately chewy interior. The sauce really amplified the flavor and this all made for a great bite within the whole meal. All in all, this is a home run. If you haven't been, I urge you to check it out, as it's one of the best authentic Chinese restaurants around.

Tucked away in the back of an unassuming shopping mall is Chinese cuisine well worth making a trip for. I was immediately greeted when I entered, and started with some hot tea. I ended up ordering Garlic Cucumbers and Dry Stir Fried Pork Intestines. The cucumbers were light and refreshing with a punch of garlic. The intestines came out crispy and piled high with red fried chilis and szechuan peppercorns. I am a huge spice nut and this absolutely hit the spot! (If you have a low spice tolerance you may want to ask for less spicy as the server did not ask how spicy I wanted it). The cucumbers were the perfect accompaniment to balance the heat and numbing from the chilis. When I first looked at the menu, I thought the prices were a bit high. After seeing the enormous portion sizes, it all made perfect sense. There was easily enough for 2 full meals for me (245lb, 6ft3in man with an appetite). The portions are clearly designed to be shared. On that point they also feature traditional Chinese style banquet seating with the lazy suzan in the middle for family style eating. All told I was extremely impressed with the food quality, service, portion sizes and ambiance. I will absolutely be adding Shanghai Bistro to my regular rotation!

The entire time we were there which was about 45 minutes there were hardly any other customers for a Friday I thought it would be much more busy around lunch time. The filling was a little bit sweet, and a little bit savory, and the shell was well fried, crispy, and not oily at all. They were offering a BOGO on the combination plate, and so that's what I went for. I had the garlic chicken, and the chicken with seasonal. Veggies. On both dishes, the chicken was moist and tender. The veggies were done well. Just the right consistency, not mushy at all. The taste was great. The only thing I could say, was, the garlic chicken was a bit spicy. About medium on what I like for spice, you could definitely see the red pepper flakes on that food. Unfortunately, nowhere in the menu did it mention the spicy part of it. I did like it, and the spice was within what I like, but I think the next time I would order something else. The fried rice was very well done with a good flavor also. It was just the rice. It had no egg or veggies in it. I had enough for two meals on the first combo, and the second one went into my portable cooler, and is going home to Sacramento with me. For all I got, the price was extremely reasonable, even if I would've gotten only one combination. Thank you very much.

We decided to make it our next date night spot. We went on a Friday around 5:30 and it wasn't very crowded yet. They asked if we preferred a table or a booth, and we went with a booth near the front. The restaurant itself is really nice, but I'll say the booth felt a little tight. Next time, we'll probably go with a table for a bit more space. The service was top notch. The staff was incredibly attentive, and our drinks were constantly refilled. Our glasses were never empty, which always stands out. About 15 minutes after we sat down, the place filled up fast. It seemed like most people coming in had reservations, so I'd definitely recommend making one if you're planning to go after 6 pm. We decided on the Shanghai Dinner. I ordered the sweet and sour pork, and my wife got the sweet and sour chicken. I was tempted by the cashew chicken and kung pao chicken, but we'll save those for next time. The appetizers were amazing. The meal comes with spring rolls, crab rangoon, paper wrapped chicken, and honey glazed BBQ spareribs. Everything was delicious. My wife loved the paper wrapped chicken, and for me, the ribs were the standout. They were tender with just the right hint of sweetness. Honestly, I could've eaten a full plate of just those and been happy. For sides, I had the egg flower soup, which was really flavorful, and my wife had the salad. She could not stop talking about how good the dressing was. Both the sweet and sour pork and chicken were great. The sauce had that perfect tangy, slightly sweet flavor. That said, next time we probably won't order the same sauce for both dishes. I think pairing something like sweet and sour with kung pao would give a better balance with a little heat to cut through the sweetness. Overall, this place is a winner. Great food, solid portions, and the price is very reasonable at about $33 per person for the Shanghai Dinner. My wife enjoyed everything so much that after seeing another table order the duck, she's already talking about coming back to try it.
