The quality of the food really needs a big time face lift. I ordered pork chow mein, and it was soaked in oil. When I looked at the bottom of the Styrofoam container, it had approximately 1/8 inch of oil. I'm sorry but this is unacceptable and I will have a difficult time returning to this business. I usually love all Chinese places, to the little holes in the wall, to the nice sit down restaurants. This one though was a let down. We ordered delivery beef and broccoli and fried rice combo plates and two others. The sweet and sour chicken was fine, standard fare. That's where the good ends. My beef and broccoli had a very fishy flavor. Tasted exactly like shrimp. I love shrimp and sea food but not sure why the beef tasted like it was a piece of fish. The fried rice tasted great until i took a bite and got an unmistakably piece of old pork in it. Threw the rest out right there. I wouldn't recommend it. There's plenty other places in town. Worst Chinese food in town, no contest. Let's start with the halfway remodelled dining room, I say halfway remodeled but it looks more like they just don't want people eating inside so they pulled most of the seating. The rest of the inside is dirty and bare. I should have left then but some of the best Chinese I have had came out of a bad looking storefront. Ordered the Mongolian Beef, even forward tipped the counter guy before getting my food, which was apparently a mistake. No joke, I get home and open my styrofoam container and what it looks is that they took a bunch of green onions, stir fried that, dropped 5 small pieces of meat in with it and called it good. Had maybe half a dozen of the white crispy things on the bottom and MAYBE 10 small pieces of julienned onions. And this cost my close to twenty bucks. If you live in the area, literally just go anywhere else. The Raleys on Robb does better Chinese than this place. read more

This little hole in the wall establishment has pretty good food. I've eaten there several times, and I've been pleasantly surprised most of the time. The food is consistent. The taste is authentic, but the front looks like a dump. I wish the would change it into a strictly take out place, and get rid of the old half booths, and metal chairs. But it's worth a try. I've been here twice in the past 24 hours. They have a nice chicken chow mein. It's our go to place when in NW Reno. We get take out since there are not really places to sit in. They also are super fast. Like 5-10m fast. Any places my kids routinely will eat certain things we will frequent, since they are super picky and eat very little. Okay, this was a horrible experience. The good i have none the bad it was everything and the ugly was the restraunt inside stacked with napkins and plates and very disorganized and dirty looking. The food 100% tasted the same between the generals chicken, and sesame i could not tell the difference (besides how they looked). Most of the chicken was dryed out and left a large amount of batter some cooked and some ultra deep fried. Ordered 3 meals for Father's Day. No one came close to eating all of their meal. In one case the chicken was so over cooked that it was impossible to cut with a fork. The two orange chicken meals were flavorless and and an odd metal tang to them. All three meals were thrown away with only a couple bites each. The shrimp and rices were nicely cooked and tasted great. The chicken was a bit over cooked and chewy. I had some trouble finding the up to date menu anywhere. It had been a long day on the lake, the last day of a family reunion, and we were driving back to Reno to our timeshare. We decided we wanted Chinese, so, to the trusty Yelp app I went. China Kitchen was right off I-80 in Northwest Reno, but it wasn't visible from the highway, so we were glad we had Yelp. It's in a mini strip mall, maybe four shops total. You walk in and there is a cooler one your left work bottles of water, soda and juices. The counter is straight ahead to order, but if you're eating there you can take a seat. The menu is under glass on the table. It's standard Chinese fare, the prices are very reasonable and there is a dinner and lunch special for about nine dollars. The staff was very nice, friendly and helpful. We asked for a special order item and they accommodated us without an issue. In our party we ordered pot stickers, sweet and sour chicken, General Tsao Chicken and sesame beef. Everything was cooked very well, good flavors. Honestly ignore the other reviews and just read this one. China Kitchen is the BEST Chinese food I have ever had! I've been eating here for one year now, and I'll never go back. Their fried rice is incredible, so much flavor and I love the fresh onion they add. The real winner, though, is the hot and sour soup. This palace is really good. So good that we decided to have it two days in a row. My first order was through Grubhub and I was surprised that it would deliver to me since I live out in North Valleys. Yes, a huge tip was given to our driver, well deserved. The food heat was really tasty, the meat was fresh and tender. Our favorite dish was the Triple Mongolian. My do. Wow! I haven't had this great of Chinese food in years. I got their Chow Mein and Kung Pao Tofu. It was incredible. They offer very large portions and do not use MSG, as well. I would like to this restaurant using different packaging (maybe just a standard to-go box) as styrofoam never biodegrades and can't be recycled. This place is the worst. I stopped by to order some quick food and I feel like I got ripped off because I paid $72 dollars plus a tip for super bad food. I ordered chicken fried rice which was greasy and a piece of the chicken I bit on had gristle or something. I ordered Moo shoo pork that was mediocre at best and beef with broccoli that was okay, but I found a random peanut in it which was odd. Next was orange chicken for the kids. The feedback on that was, "It was ok, but it was just dry." Don't even get me started on how bad the appetizers were...okay, I'm reviewing so here goes. Crab Rangoons were empty. No crab in there. Heck, no cheese either. There was literally a fried empty wonton with about 1/4 tsp of cream cheese on the top of them. Next, the fried wonton with pork...dry AF and just bad. Last, was potstickers. Dripping in grease and the kids were like, " What ARE those?!" Yes, they know what pot stickers are supposed to look like... I should have turned around when I walked in. It smells greasy and looks like it could use a good deep clean. I gave it the benefit of the doubt, but it was a complete waste as we threw away stuff because it was just...gross. Do not go there expecting quality food. Also, the two people in the front of the house could use a brush up on customer service. I think they couldn't have cared less about being there. I ordered the kung pao beef, egg foo young, house fried rice and shrimp. Also added 2 canned Thai teas, which I love! More Asian restaurants need to have it, either in can or homemade. I know they are pricy but they are delicious and worth it! The lunch was decent for sure, and good quantities. The fried shrimp was fine, nothing extraordinary, just ok. The kung pao beef was tasty, with decent sauce. Again, nothing mind-blowing, just ok. The egg foo young was interesting and very good. The sauce that comes with the egg foo young, looked like yet another dish, which was great! I really enjoyed the sauce which had nice pieces of chicken and lots of veggies. Having ordered from China Kitchen several times in the past three years, I thought I knew what to expect: slightly above-average standard Chinese/American fare. This time, no such luck. I ordered my usual Beef Chow Mein ($9.99) which was simply "meh" not bad but not good. (It was barely warm), the Appetizer Combo: two egg rolls, two fried wonton, two crab Rangoon, two fried shrimp, two chicken teriyaki sticks ($12.99) and a Wor Wonton Soup ($10.99). The appetizer combo was pitiful. EVERYTHING was dried up into an un-chewable rubber-band situation and nothing was even warm. The wontons were not even identifiable as such, and the chicken sticks were - well, there's no way to describe what they were. The only positive? The sweet & sour dipping sauce was good (but not good enough to improve this dish). The wor wonton soup that I received was NOT "wor wonton", it was merely wonton (no shrimp, etc). The wontons were so soft, mushy and overcooked they barely retained solid form in the soup. And the soup broth, while mildly spicy, had zero flavor. None. I'm serious, it tasted like spicy water. I immediately thought I had contracted the COVID so I booked a test (it was negative). So this meal cost THIRTY BUCKS and wasn't really even "just okay". I always order the sesame chicken, the General Tso's chicken and the chicken friend rice. I personally love how the chicken is prepared because I like small crispy pieces. Some people prefer larger chunks of chicken but I don't like it that way. I prefer small strips that are nicely breaded and extra crispy. That way if you're ordering takeout, like I always do, it's not soggy by the time you get home. We ordered 5-6 items from here the other day and fed 4 people for $17/each with tax/tip and still had leftovers! Everything from beef chow fun to generals chicken was so delicious, high quality ingredients, perfectly sauced and crispy. The beef and broccoli had so many veggies and they were cooked perfectly! You should definitely try the crispy tofu with sesame sauce. I've never had a crispy tofu where the inside wasn't completely gone from the frying process, but China Kitchen's still had silky creamy tofu on the inside. The only thing I wouldn't recommend to order would be the fried pork wontons, they were a little too much wonton wrapper and not enough pork. But overall this is a great Chinese place with a HUGE and extensive menu on the northwest that you can try out plenty dishes without breaking the budget! I will definitely be ordering again. read more
