I have eaten in another Egg Roll King and it is fine for inexpensive Chinese food. Thought I would try it a d try my usual go to. shrimp egg foo yung. They will only make it when not busy but worth the wait. It was probably the best I have had in Reno. There was plenty to share and enough for leftovers the next day. What more can you want. Had some Wonton soup with it as well and I love wontons and theirs was pretty good. Guess I will be eating here more often. But just like most Chinese restaurants they need better hot mustard. Those little packets really are terrible. Is it that hard to find a company that sells good hot mustard in packets. I really really want to give these guys 5 stars. We've been eating here for years and obviously there is a reason for that. However, I've noticed over the last 12 months that the service has gone down and they sound annoyed when we order. There is a young gentleman who is there frequently and he's been really awesome. Unfortunately, the thing that turned us from a 4 star for service issues is the food had also taken a turn for the worse. The spice has been far too much and the meat is so dry that you can't even chew it. Maybe a new chef? We will keep trying because we love this place and hope things get better but I feel like this is a very fair review for the current environment. read more

Paid 65$ for food which ended up in the trash after a couple bites. Got the beef and broccoli which was horrendous. Only thing that was edible was the egg rolls, but they weren't good by any means. The delivery guy was nice but besides that, it was a complete waste of money. My girlfriend wouldn't even feed it to the dog. Only 4 booths and container and utensil boxes make up the establishment with a bare drink machine as soon as you walk in the door. Food - They had a "Lunch Special" (11:30 am - 3:00 pm everyday) I ordered the Sesame Chicken with Fried Rice that came with with a Eggroll. Not bad for $6.99. [Sesame Chicken] The sesame chicken was crispy..for what bits of chicken was there. It was mostly sauce coated batter. There was plenty on the plate but mostly inedible because it was hard and what chicken was there was dried out in the batter. But the sauce used was nice, to bad it didn't go well with the dish overall. [Fried Rice and Eggroll] The fried rice was excellent, knowing what I know now I would of ordered this alone. It wasn't overly oily or charred and had a nice flavor, maybe with chicken or shrimp it would be nice. The eggroll was nice, no meat but nice crisp veggies inside with a nice flavor. Made up for the sesame chicken which I didn't eat much of. Service - The service was dry, I felt a language barrier was definitely in play here. The guy at the register was kinda rude, after placing a order with him, my friends and I didn't see him at all anymore until the I assume "Owner" came in and took over everything else from there. Drink - I had a "Snapple" ($2.50) Overall - Decent Chinese food at a Decent price, the famous "Burger Me" of Diners, Drive In's and Dives is connected to this business. I had the Kung Pao chicken, my daughter had the Shrimp Fried Rice, and my husband had the General Chicken. It was ALL delicious!!! The owner recommended the Kung Pao chicken (which I would not normally have ordered) and I was very pleased with it. It wasn't too spicy, yet still had great flavor, texture and a little kick. The chicken on both of the chicken dishes was cooked perfectly - tender and juicy and flavorful. This place is under recent new ownership (formerly Armani Chef) and it is a fantastic improvement!! The two ladies who own the place are really sweet and nice. They go out of their way to make sure everyone is pleased with their order. I went and got a takeout cashew chicken lunch. When I got home, the egg roll was burned, and there were literally only three cashews in my cashew chicken. Yes, I counted them LOL. I would have ordered chicken with vegetables if I didn't want cashews. I went back. The person that waited on me told me the egg roll was not burned, that it was because the vegetables were wet??? And also that there are never very many cashews in cashew chicken?? He then gave me a container with maybe 10 cashews. He did not offer to give me another egg roll. I won't go back. read more

Meh. Just ordered lunch takeout. Not sure how you can mess up an order when there wasn't a single person in the restaurant. First we ordered soup, me egg flower, him, wonton. The egg flower was bland and had so much green onion in it it was over powering. He actually received WOR wonton soup. Not sure why these places advertise plain wonton soup on their menus if all they serve is WOR wonton soup. There IS a difference. I ordered the chicken and broccoli lunch special, what I got was chicken and vegetables. Granted, broccoli IS a vegetable but when all you want is broccoli and chicken and what you get is everything BUT broccoli, your parade has been rained on. Worst customer service ever. Completely got my order wrong for delivery. Out dinner was ruined. Potstickers and crab Rangoon with no sauce and no hot mustard to dip in. Soup completely wrong with added vegetables that I asked to exclude. I called them and let them know that they didn't have to send the delivery guy again to fix the order that I would swing by the next day and get new food. I liked the food till my daughter bit into an egg roll a few minutes ago and found a long dark hair hanging out of her mouth. The sweet and sour chicken had good flavor but a ton of breading. My first two egg rolls were good. The hair totally creeped my daughter and I out to the point. Where we just put it down and threw it all out. I have had ok meals here in the past and most of the time got exactly what I was expecting. So the three stars could have been one if not for other good experiences here in the past. I have ordered from China Kitchen for a few years now. The food used to be excellent. However, the last two post COVID orders have been horrible. What used to be flavorful is now bland as cardboard. What used to be succulent is now dry as leather. They charge a premium price for Chinese and a ridiculous delivery fee, and I'm OK with that if the food is top shelf. Sadly Panda Express had more flavor and half the price than my last two $80+ dollar order. After years of patronage, I am sorry to say that I will not be ordering from here ever again. read more

A hole in a wall place with DELICIOUS food. A family of 4 adults and 1 teenager devoured: salt and pepper pork chop chilli, house fried rice, crab rangoon, orange chicken, beef pepper steak, and house pan fried noodle. We would have taken a photo of our food, but we were starving and this food hit the spot. Service was great and we come for the taste of the food. I order online for delivery and realized they had the wrong delivery address. I thought I had order direct with the restaurant so I called them to change the address and the person on the phone was rude and unhelpful telling me they were not having delivery orders for the night. When I said I just order she said it must have been through DoorDash, I asked if she could please update the address she said no and that I should contact DoorDash. I made a comment that they could easily update the address but she again refused. As I was on the phone with DoorDash to update the address the restaurant canceled me order. And as a result canceled a customer. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, the food was hit or miss and they have horrible customer service. read more

The spicy salted pork chop was excellent and I would recommend that to anyone. The appetizers were meh and the hot-and-sour soup was poor. I'm giving them two stars mainly because of a bad experience. I won't return. I got to China Kitchen at about 5:10 p.m. I placed my order at the counter because I wasn't sure if they had waiter service. I guess they do. I ordered the pork chop because it looked like the least Americanized thing I could find on the menu. I wanted to try different appetizers to see which they did best. Since the pork would be spicy, I knew I should have gotten a non-spicy soup to balance the meal, but I like hot-and-sour soup too much, so I ordered that. I paid and made it clear I wanted to eat it there (in large part so I could get good photos of the food). The younger girl who took my order said "Here?" and I said yes, so she waved me over to a table. There are five four-tops and two were occupied. I took the third one. The dinner rush showed up and within five minutes or so the two remaining tables were taken. Then there was what appeared to be a family of four waiting for a table. Finally, the young gal who took my order came out of the kitchen holding a bowl of soup. She made eye contact with me and smiled. I assumed it was my soup. Then an older woman behind the counter gestured with her hand and said something to the younger gal with the soup,. She walked back into the kitchen. I never saw a bowl of soup out of the kitchen the rest of the time I was there. Finally, several minutes later, the young gal came out of the kitchen with two bags of food to go. She came over and set it on my table. I explained I wanted to eat it there. "Here?" she asked. Yes, here, I replied. "Here?" she asked again? A little more assertively I said again, yes here. She seemed resigned to the fact I was going to eat there, so she started taking the food out and plating it. There was no spoon on the table and there was no spoon to go in the to-go bag either (maybe it wasn't originally done to go?) so she got a spoon from behind the counter. I started with the hot-and-sour soup. It was definitely off. I don't know if it was missing an ingredient or had too much of something else (maybe cornstarch). To tell you how bad the hot-and-sour soup was, they brought it in a to-go container and I left at least half of it there. I liked the barbecue pork skewer among the appetizers, but nothing else jumped out at me. The spring rolls and fried chicken both had what I call a refrigerator taste like they had been in the refrigerator too long. The person who cooked the spicy salted pork chop showed some real talent though. Nicely spice. Probably too much salt but I still liked it. But also tender and flavorful. The selection of vegetables was also disappointing. There were five choices and three of them were some variation of tofu. My entree was better than the typical Chinese fast food place but China Kitchen did not fare well in too many other categories for me to return. read more

I've been wanting to try this place because of reviews and the pictures of their food look so nummy, and last night we finally, well, attempted to. Last night we were across town and called in a to go order. When we got there it wasn't ready, and that's totally fine. My husband went in to pick it up and when he got there, our ticket was on the counter. But while he was waiting for the guy behind the counter to figure things out, the guy turned away from him and started ignoring him so he just sat down and waited. Then they lost our ticket. And so he had to tell the guy our order again, and again. Multiple times, and also had to correct him after telling him because he kept messing up or mixing up our order. We spent a half hour there, me in the car, him waiting in the place, only for him to come out in frustration because no progress was being made on our order. Luckily he hadn't paid yet because he'd been left to wait or ignored most of the time there so we just left and went to Burger Me instead. This means we won't be coming back because I'm not going to able to convince him to go again and I'm just, super disappointed. And I want to add, that my husband was super put off the by the guy behind the counter. And I guess he'd messed up a lady's order ahead of us, and after he fixed it he said, "Sorry dude." so it sort of sounds like he either just does not give a shit or he's not being trained to handle the situation properly. Still, I hate to give anywhere a bad review without getting to even SEE the food, but I sort of feel like this place just refused us. Who waits 40+ minutes for take out, most of it sitting at the place? And then only to leave with nothing? Messy. read more

The Appetizer sampler was good, Right out of extremely hot oil making everything crisp and not soggy with oil. Would probably try the pot stickers next time. We had the House Chow Mein (soft noodles), Broccoli beef and Kung Pao Triple delight. Ample serving sizes and served piping hot!! The Kung Pao was excellent! Great flavor, not just hot for hot sake. Vegetables across the board were bite size, and perfectly cooked, not all soggy stems. No skimping on meats or shrimp and all the sauces were very tasty. There may be a fight for the leftovers in the morning. Only seating for about 20 (5 booths), so if you are going on a busy night, get there early. it is worth it. This place use to be called Armani Chef, it was ok had only been there twice since moving to Reno 2 years ago which is odd since we love Chinese food and only live about 5 minutes away. We decided to give it another try today and when we got there we realized it was no longer Armani Chef it is now called Chinese Kitchen. We decided to check it out and I'm glad we did, everything we ordered was delicious and tasted fresh. I recommend asking for spicy chow main noodles (to die for). The quality and taste of food is so much better then before. The staff was nice and friendly which makes you want to come back. We will be back soon. Strike three: The orange chicken was probably made in the morning and reheated 100 times before we received it tonight. It was more like chicken jerky.
