BBQ Pork Chow Fun
Tiffany L.

*Visited on Sat. 12/28/2024 around 1:30 with a group of 7 I've heard some pretty good things about Chinese Duck House- especially from my family members who often come to Reno and usually stop by this restaurant- I was not disappointed. The staff here are very kind and attentive, and was quick to make sure everyone was situated and taken care of. Not to mention, despite coming with a group of 7, our dishes came out quickly and steaming. Chinese Duck House is a cozy restaurant in between Peppermill and Atlantis, and has some pretty decent dishes. Granted, I find this spot to be more of a Chinese Soul Food restaurant- if you're craving a good noodle dish or soup dish, I believe you can satisfy that craving here without breaking your wallet. OKAY THE FOOD: * BBQ Pork Chow Fun- pretty good and VERY filling. I could not finish my plate because there was so much, but if I could've eaten more I would. Towards the end, it was a little more on the greasy side, however this dish is typically greasy so I can't complain. * Beef Chow fun- I had a small bite from my partner's and found it to be pretty tasty as well, granted he did dress up his dish with plenty of chili sauce

Whole Duck and Salt Pepper Prawns. My absolute FAVORITE!!!

If you're anywhere near Reno and love roasted duck, this is your place. Their roasted duck is absolutely to die for. Perfectly crispy skin, juicy, flavorful meat, and that rich, savory seasoning that lingers in the best way. Hands down the best duck I've ever had! I've literally driven all the way from Stockton just to eat it once, then turned around and drove back. That's how serious the craving gets! Every time I visit the Peppermill Casino (which is several times a year), this spot is my first stop. My husband and I always order a whole roasted duck just for the two of us -- and yes, we usually finish the entire thing in one sitting. No shame. It's that good. The prawn with spicy pepper salt is another absolute favorite. The prawns are huge, super crispy, and coated in a flavorful mix of salt, pepper, and spices that hits all the right notes. Spicy, salty, and just a hint of sweetness. Every bite has that addictive crunch and depth of flavor that keeps you reaching for more. I also love their crab rangoon. Always served hot and crispy, with a creamy, delicious filling. It's a small place, probably only about eight tables, but that just adds to the charm. This is a true mom and pop restaurant with incredibly kind and welcoming staff. They remember us, greet us warmly, and make every visit feel personal. It's become a tradition for us, and I look forward to it every time I'm in Reno.

Once again I apply the do not judge the book before reading it. Wow I was impressed with the quality of the food, the large portions, how delicious and cheap it is. I ordered a special dinner in which I grabbed duck and honestly it was very tasty, it was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, the only thing I don't like is that it was a little salty to my liking but from there everything was good. The lady who attended us was very kind and the food didn't take long to get to our table. I really enjoyed eating here.

Small spot but packed with flavors. It reminded me of the hole in the wall restaurants I grew up going to in Chinatown in LA. I was craving roast duck and it was umami heaven and salty. I like salty. The vegetables were yummy as well. The portions are big and I ordered takeout.

Came here for take out lunch. Restaurant was clean but small with only limited seating . The staff was on point to take orders. The food was ready literally less than 2 minutes after ordering. Ordered beef fried rice to go. Good size and flavorable fried rice.

How did we learn about The Duck House? Would you believe that a random dude we were in line with for takeout at a Chinese BBQ deli in Newark, in the East Bay, told us about the awesome roasted duck at The Duck House. The girlfriend mentioned that we would be in Reno & he excitedly insisted that we should give this restaurant a try. Fast forward to this afternoon & I was there for lunch. The girlfriend had her spa experience so i had a free day & it was lunch at the Duck House. 1 look at the menu & i thought food here is cheap! I had the roasted duck w/tofu & veggies lunch combo & hot tea. I expected the veggies came separately but nope, all together in 1 plate. The duck was moist & juicy, much better than expected. I was pleasantly surprised & said so to the server. She said their ducks are popular and that loads of chinese people from the Bay eat there. I am not surprised by her declaration - good food & low prices? We are there

We ordered a stir fried chicken with cabbage (you wrapped it with this flour made wrapper and a sweet sauce that tasted like hoisten sauce) and singaporean noodle -- they feel like we are eating street food -- usually street food in Singapore, Taiwan, or in some market in China tastes really good, however the food we had didn't taste bad, but not the best Asian food as well. We felt like they put MSG too, at that time, 'cause I felt dizzy after eating. The food is not too memorable for us to come back. Maybe since we tasted the best Chinese food before, our standard is high, anyway, until now, we are still looking for the best Chinese restaurant in Reno, and so far, our quest still continues. In fairness, the service is fast, and the owner is friendly. The ambiance is a typical old Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. I find the carpet dirty. My son was trying to crawl on the carpet, but I stopped him because it was sticky and rough. I think the place needs a bit of cleaning.

I'm not sure if they are under new ownership or I had a bad batch but the beef stew over rice I ordered was very bland. Not the typical delicious beef stew i was accustomed to expect when it comes to Chinese Duck House. Not to mention, I found a PIECE OF HAIR on my entree which was a very big let down. For a $16 dish, I was not expecting low quality in flavor compared to its value. Hopefully, my next visit will be a whole different experience. For it may be my last.

After reading a couple of reviews from other yelpers, I decided to come back and try this place again. It has been years since we've had the duck here. One thing I remember, for the price it is the only place in Reno where you can grab some quick ' duck to go' and they do a good job. It is not Peking style, but it is similar. We ordered A whole roast duck and a few other items. tried to order shrimp in oyster sauce, but they said they did not have it. They did have other shrimp dishes though? they do have large portions, that is one thing I can say for the price. What we ordered: Whole roast duck House fried rice Beef with green beans Pan fried potstickers Cashew shrimp Barbecue pork with vegetables Didn't take too long for the order. Again the portions were large, and the duck was spot on. But the rest of the food, was meh... there was definitely a lot of fives spice on all the food. The duck was good as expected. And they gave a huge portion. $42 for a whole duck. Finally the potstickers were pan fried, but stuffed with a starchy paste. Couldn't tell if there was actually meat in it. That is a huge change. I do remember they had great potstickers in the past.

Chicken Chow Mein Lunch Special

This has been my favorite place to visit for some quality Chinese food in town. Locally owned and in a good location this place brings a lot of good food. My favorite time to go is for lunch where I can order the lunch special chicken chow mein with fried rice and an egg roll. It also comes with your choice of soup. This place brings back a lot of memories as a kid it's been in the community for many years now. Definitely recommend checking it out.

From start to finish, it was an outstanding epicurean delight…read more Our group of five fierce women completely and absolutely enjoyed every moment and every bite of the beautifully presented dishes. The portions were generous with plenty of leftovers to pack up in takeout boxes for enjoying for another day. My favorite three were the ahi tuna, the black cod and the brilliant asian/french mash up of red Bean Creme Brulee. I also need to mention, I loved the lamb tenderloin. I am not a big lamb fan, but this New Zealand lamb was tender and non-gamey. The owners did an outstanding job of timing the dishes and engaging with our group while also taking care of other diners including non event patrons getting getting take-out and inhouse menu dining. The space is very small, but even with and almost full house, it didn't feel cramped. Even though Kwok's is right across the street from where I live, this restaurant would be at the top of my list of "I would drive out of my way to eat here"

I try to never miss a Chinese New Year or Fall Harvest Moon dinner here…read more They never disappoint. Both require a reservation made at least a month in advance, they are always a sell out. To start, you can't go wrong with the enthusiastic welcome we always receive. Then quickly seated and wine poured. The 2026 CNY menu was fabulous, with some great surprises. The ahi tartare portion anywhere else would have been a shareable appetizer. But each person was served a large portion of delicious fresh ahi. Mmmm this course and a glass of wine could be dinner alone any other evening. The soft creamy rich egg custard was hidden under a thick seafood gravy. I really enjoyed this unique dish. The miso black cod is always flaky and delicious. And the crab fried rice it's nestled on also never disappoints. The rich New Zealand stir fried lamb and shiitake mushrooms over pea shoots was a fabulous hearty dish on this chilly March evening. The braised short ribs were so tender no knife was needed, they flaked apart with the fork. And the e mein noodles were perfectly al dente. The dinner wrapped up with a crème brûlée that only Kwok's could pull off - red bean. Creamy smooth. Not overwhelming. The perfect burnt sugar layer on top. The regular menu is just as delicious. Small inside seating area, so recommend always make a reservation. In the summer there's a fabulous patio area out front. Limited street parking.

The place is pretty big.. they have 2 separate rooms good for parties.. its clean and bright. The staff is nice but overly nice or fake which can get annoying so I love it..lol.. they are on top of Refills! They have lunch combos specials that includes a couple appetizers, one main entree, choice from 2 different rices, 2 soups...good prices.. The first time there i got the lemon chicken..its a breaded and fried piece with a lemon sauce and its so good.. The 2nd time I got the sweet and sour chicken. The pieces were good but needed a little less sauce. Ill get it again but ask for light sauce. Im picky about friend rice. I love a good amount of egg and not overly cooked rice and they do it right.. I got so excited with the big pieces of egg.. The best thing that im obsessed with is their scallion pancakes and the dipping sauce.. something that has to be tasted..

My fianceé told me about the Lemon chicken she tried for her first visit and how much she loved it! It's not her usual to to for the lunch specials, but she highly praises it. I am very happy to say that I do too now. The chicken was cooked perfectly and reminded me of chicken Katsu, light and crisp. It wasn't drenched in a gelatinous over lemony sauce either. Everything was light and refreshing, if you love lemon I suggest asking for a couple more wedges. I can't wait to have it again very soon. The entire time we were there which was about 45 minutes there were hardly any other customers for a Friday I thought it would be much more busy around lunch time. I do not believe this place deserves to be that slow on a Friday at all. I'm seriously going to be dreaming of more scallion pancakes with that sauce! The dining room and bathroom was very large and clean. Also, I really love the pictures of the food along the windows. Pictures are always very helpful. On our way out we picked up almond cookies for $2 per bag (sandwich bag ziplock). When I bit into it I was immediately transported to the Japanese tea garden in San Francisco. I have very fond childhood memories there. We always had almond cookies with our jasmine tea. Well done all! See ya on the next visit
