Lunch Menu Chicken with Garlic Sauce
    Lana O.

I was hungry after being at the Reno DMV. With the help of a fellow YES (Yelp Elite Squad'25) member and my map program, I found this lil "whole in the wall" unassuming Strip-Mall restaurant less than a mile away. Lunch combination $12.50. I chose Garlic Chicken (spicy), BBQ Pork & Veggies, and 1/2 Pork Fried Rice, 1/2 Pork Chow Mein. HUGE plate of food!. Super friendly, helpful waitress. Quick service. I ate mine in-house, but the place does a huge To Go business. FYI... they carry Coke and Pepsi products.

I was in Reno visiting friends over the holiday weekend and I usually just let them pick the places to eat. This day, they picked this out of the way place for a Chinese food lunch. They said it had the best General's Chicken ever. OK, this I gotta see, even though General's Chicken isn't on my usual menu for Chinese food. The place is located in a sort of industrial area, you'd have to know about the place to come here. It's a basic interior and no problem finding seating. I was told during the week, you can order in English or Spanish. Weekend it's Chinese or English. We choose English, no problem. Besides the General's Chicken, we had the Singapore noodles, Beef Chow Fun with Black bean sauce with pot stickers to start. The pot stickers were nice, the deep fried variety and came with a good dipping sauce. Then the Singapore noodles arrived, holy moly, THAT'S a real plate of noodles all piled high! Then the General's Chicken came. Wow, that's the best looking General Chicken I ever saw, they weren't lying about this being the best! The fried chicken pieces weren't the usual thick battered pre made nuggets most places use for all those sauced chicken dishes, like sweet and sour, lemon or orange chicken. These were real hand cut dark meat chicken and hand dredged in a lighter batter, so it didn't end up like a corn dog! The taste was fantastic, even for General's Chicken! OK, I gotta say this is the best General's Chicken I ever had anywhere. Then the Chow Fun arrived last. Dang, where's the noodles, there all beef and sauce on top! No skimping out on the meat here! The noodles were on the bottom and I could tell they were made from fresh noodles as opposed to dry re-hydrated noodles, sort of like using fresh pasta vs. the dried past you boil. The noodles were super tender and had this melt in you mouth feel with that wonderful sauce. I haven't discovered this sauced version of Chow Fun till about a year ago. Before that it was just the dry version. The Singapore Noodles were super tasty as well! OK, I gotta say, this little out of the way place Hong Kong Diner II (I guess there's a Hong Kong Diner 1?) is some of the best Chinese food I've had even compared to the Sac Valley, definitely better than Red Bluff where I live! Come try this place out, it's a little hard to find, but use the GPS and it here!

Food always fresh and amazing. This time I ordered spicy crispy pork chops to go and I'm extremely satisfied. Everything cooked just right and more than enough food to eat a few times throughout the day. Staff are always extremely nice and helpful. I've been coming for years and will be a forever customer.

Huge bowl of hot n sour soup. It's the smallest bowl in the restaurant. Ha

Food - ordered combo with fried rice. Received double generals chicken. Had a hint of cinnamon and tasted great. A little bold and not too much spice - hits home Fried rice was dry. Hot n sour soup was fantastic. A little salty however it really really tasted great Huge portions. I mean really huge. Employee of the month= Maria She enjoys working here and goes out of her way to help and assure you that you're happy!! I can't say enough of how beautiful of a person she is. This place has a steady flow of regulars. Food comes out fast!!!

We were in South Reno and decided to give this place a try because they had pork dumplings on the menu. Wow wow wow, the dumplings are huge! So satisfied with everything we tried, my toddler loved the duck noodle soup. We will return. Service was friendly and prompt. It's a classic chinese diner, not fancy but cozy and warm.

The soups here at Hong Kong Diner II are often overlooked, but are some of the best Chinese soup versions I've come across locally. They really give super generous portions of the soup features, like the wontons in the war wonton soup and all the stuff included in the egg drop soup that no other restaurants give you. I had the War Wonton soup last time is it was more full of wontons and other meats and veggies than I ever had anywhere else. Damn, there was so much stuff in the big soup bowl, there wasn't room for as much broth, which was very well done too. My friend likes the won ton soup, but not the wonton dumplings, so I took all the dumplings and put some hot chili oil on them! Tasty this way! The Singapore curry rice noodles was excellent as well. Big portions! The deep fried spicy tofu was the best anywhere I've ever had. Nice fried cubes of crispy spicy tofu, firm on the outside and oh so creamy on the inside. They do this dish like nobody else. Communication is no prob here, you can order in English or Spanish. Check out some of the food here other than the lunch specials!

I found the food here to be authentic and the service was very pleasant. The place was clean and presentable. The portion size was very generous which I found to be hard to find in this area. The pork chow mein had lean slices of BBQ pork which I appreciated. The amount of curry used in the Singapore noodles was just the right amount to give it the taste I expected. I look forward to trying other food items the next time I am in the south Reno area.

I've been here few time for late night snacks with friends but never have a chance to review. Came here on Tuesday night and it was quite busy. The service is as you can expect at fast food asian restaurant. You get seated very quick, a quick in and out. I ordered egg rolls, spicy pork chop, and pho. Egg rolls were fine. Little mushy when you bite in, less meat flavor. Spicy pork chop was my least favorite. I ordered it because it is one of the popular dish but mang it wasn't what I expected. Some pieces are salty, onions aren't cooked well. It was very hard to swallow. It comes with rice btw. Pho was so so. No mints including, only been sprout.

For fast decent chinese food, I would recommend this place! They are not easy to find. I truly enjoyed the staff and their friendliness! The price was definitely reasonable. They serve pretty fast too. I want to go back and try some other dishes soon!

Sweet and sour pork, Kung Pao chicken, chow mein/ fried rice (they allow this if you ask)!

The portions were generous with plenty of leftovers to pack up in takeout boxes for enjoying for another day. My favorite three were the ahi tuna, the black cod and the brilliant asian/french mash up of red Bean Creme Brulee. I also need to mention, I loved the lamb tenderloin. I am not a big lamb fan, but this New Zealand lamb was tender and non-gamey. The owners did an outstanding job of timing the dishes and engaging with our group while also taking care of other diners including non event patrons getting getting take-out and inhouse menu dining. The space is very small, but even with and almost full house, it didn't feel cramped. Even though Kwok's is right across the street from where I live, this restaurant would be at the top of my list of "I would drive out of my way to eat here"

To start, you can't go wrong with the enthusiastic welcome we always receive. Then quickly seated and wine poured. The 2026 CNY menu was fabulous, with some great surprises. The ahi tartare portion anywhere else would have been a shareable appetizer. But each person was served a large portion of delicious fresh ahi. Mmmm this course and a glass of wine could be dinner alone any other evening. The soft creamy rich egg custard was hidden under a thick seafood gravy. I really enjoyed this unique dish. The miso black cod is always flaky and delicious. And the crab fried rice it's nestled on also never disappoints. The rich New Zealand stir fried lamb and shiitake mushrooms over pea shoots was a fabulous hearty dish on this chilly March evening. The braised short ribs were so tender no knife was needed, they flaked apart with the fork. And the e mein noodles were perfectly al dente. The dinner wrapped up with a crème brûlée that only Kwok's could pull off - red bean. Creamy smooth. Not overwhelming. The perfect burnt sugar layer on top. The regular menu is just as delicious. Small inside seating area, so recommend always make a reservation. In the summer there's a fabulous patio area out front. Limited street parking.

Unfortunately, the flavors were quite different from what I expected. The food wasn't bad, but it tasted different from what I'm used to. The popcorn chicken was more on the sweet side rather than savory. The fried rice was okay but not very flavorful. The zha jiang mian was also sweeter than expected. Usually the ones I've had in Asia are very savory. I've even had zha jiang mian in Alameda, California, and that version was savory, not sweet at all. At one point my husband even wondered if they might have accidentally used sugar instead of salt. The mapo tofu was also a bit too sweet. The best one was the beef noodle soup. That was 7/10 it was my favorite out of all. In general, we didn't enjoy the food very much. The service was okay. I understand they were very busy, so it's understandable. In case you're not aware, though the name of this restaurant references a specific city in northern China and the menu has dishes from across the country, their specialty is the spicy and numbing cuisine of the Sichuan region. If you've never had this before, when you see dishes listed as spicy, they may be very different from what you're thinking. It's certainly can be a polarizing experience, with many loving this flavor and many not into it at all, but the broad menu makes this a great call for everyone. Now I love dining with others who are familiar because it lets you explore the menu through their eyes and enjoy selections made by others with taste diverse from yours. My friend picked several dishes I would've never noticed or ordered blindly this time, and I'm so happy about that. We enjoyed the cold Woodear or black fungus in chili oil, classic snow pea tips with garlic, as well as the quintessential Sichuan cumin lamb, but the other three dishes we had were 100% new to me. Those included Sichuan snails (unshelled in an oily spicy stir fry), scallops with garlic and vermicelli, and crispy spicy intestines. The snails were a win. These are small and somewhat chewy morsels that get wok fried with fried chili, chili oil, peppers and onions. The texture is similar to sautéed calamari, but a bit firmer, and the sauce coats everything with that signature numbing heat. The scallops were the big miss. This dish typically comes in the half shell with fresh scallops, but here they're using a lower quality scallop (likely frozen) and a lot of pre-minced garlic (like you'd find in a jar). It looks impressive but the scallops had absolutely not flavor and the texture was rubbery too. Skip this one for sure. The intestines were the surprise. I've had fried intestines and they crunch like a chip and have no distinct flavor that lets you know what you're eating. These were sliced on the bias and wok tossed until super crispy on the outside with a delicately chewy interior. The sauce really amplified the flavor and this all made for a great bite within the whole meal. All in all, this is a home run. If you haven't been, I urge you to check it out, as it's one of the best authentic Chinese restaurants around.

Tucked away in the back of an unassuming shopping mall is Chinese cuisine well worth making a trip for. I was immediately greeted when I entered, and started with some hot tea. I ended up ordering Garlic Cucumbers and Dry Stir Fried Pork Intestines. The cucumbers were light and refreshing with a punch of garlic. The intestines came out crispy and piled high with red fried chilis and szechuan peppercorns. I am a huge spice nut and this absolutely hit the spot! (If you have a low spice tolerance you may want to ask for less spicy as the server did not ask how spicy I wanted it). The cucumbers were the perfect accompaniment to balance the heat and numbing from the chilis. When I first looked at the menu, I thought the prices were a bit high. After seeing the enormous portion sizes, it all made perfect sense. There was easily enough for 2 full meals for me (245lb, 6ft3in man with an appetite). The portions are clearly designed to be shared. On that point they also feature traditional Chinese style banquet seating with the lazy suzan in the middle for family style eating. All told I was extremely impressed with the food quality, service, portion sizes and ambiance. I will absolutely be adding Shanghai Bistro to my regular rotation!

They were offering a BOGO on the combination plate, and so that's what I went for. I had the garlic chicken, and the chicken with seasonal. Veggies. On both dishes, the chicken was moist and tender. The veggies were done well. Just the right consistency, not mushy at all. The taste was great. The only thing I could say, was, the garlic chicken was a bit spicy. About medium on what I like for spice, you could definitely see the red pepper flakes on that food. Unfortunately, nowhere in the menu did it mention the spicy part of it. I did like it, and the spice was within what I like, but I think the next time I would order something else. The fried rice was very well done with a good flavor also. It was just the rice. It had no egg or veggies in it. I had enough for two meals on the first combo, and the second one went into my portable cooler, and is going home to Sacramento with me. For all I got, the price was extremely reasonable, even if I would've gotten only one combination. Thank you very much.

The curries are rich and flavorful, the noodle dishes are excellent, and the spice levels are done right if you like authentic heat. Our waitress Nid was great, friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable, and the service is friendly and welcoming. Overall, Moo Dang Reno is one of the best Thai food spots in Reno and definitely worth a visit if you enjoy authentic Thai cuisine.

The food was unfortunately a big let down, this is my 2nd attempt to like Moo Dang, but my drunken…read morenoodles had absolutely zero chili in them. I then had to fight to flag a waitress to ask for chili paste to get any heat in my entire dish. I like that there are veggies with it and the noodles have a good chew, but I've found zero dishes with anything near Thai spices here My partner got the pad thai, which was sickly sweet yet didn't taste like tamarind, fish sauce nor contain pickled veg. The wood ear in it was excellent, but I've never seen it in pad thai. The thai ice tea was good, maybe a bit heavy on sweetener. I don't understand the high ratings here, based pireh on food. Thai Chili has far better flavors, and is rated lower. The wait staff/food runners lacked politeness, and never checked if we enjoyed our food or needed anyone. Sans the person filling everyone's water, we were never checked on in any other capacity. The restaurant was a cacophony of noise and conversation, I had to lean across the booth to have any chance of hearing my companion. The noise level is overwhelming if you have sensory issues at all. The decor is pretty cool.

My wife knows how much I love Chinese food, so when she came across a TikTok review of Palais De…read moreJade, she asked if I had ever been. I hadn't, but I had definitely heard of it. We decided to make it our next date night spot. We went on a Friday around 5:30 and it wasn't very crowded yet. They asked if we preferred a table or a booth, and we went with a booth near the front. The restaurant itself is really nice, but I'll say the booth felt a little tight. Next time, we'll probably go with a table for a bit more space. The service was top notch. The staff was incredibly attentive, and our drinks were constantly refilled. Our glasses were never empty, which always stands out. About 15 minutes after we sat down, the place filled up fast. It seemed like most people coming in had reservations, so I'd definitely recommend making one if you're planning to go after 6 pm. We decided on the Shanghai Dinner. I ordered the sweet and sour pork, and my wife got the sweet and sour chicken. I was tempted by the cashew chicken and kung pao chicken, but we'll save those for next time. The appetizers were amazing. The meal comes with spring rolls, crab rangoon, paper wrapped chicken, and honey glazed BBQ spareribs. Everything was delicious. My wife loved the paper wrapped chicken, and for me, the ribs were the standout. They were tender with just the right hint of sweetness. Honestly, I could've eaten a full plate of just those and been happy. For sides, I had the egg flower soup, which was really flavorful, and my wife had the salad. She could not stop talking about how good the dressing was. Both the sweet and sour pork and chicken were great. The sauce had that perfect tangy, slightly sweet flavor. That said, next time we probably won't order the same sauce for both dishes. I think pairing something like sweet and sour with kung pao would give a better balance with a little heat to cut through the sweetness. Overall, this place is a winner. Great food, solid portions, and the price is very reasonable at about $33 per person for the Shanghai Dinner. My wife enjoyed everything so much that after seeing another table order the duck, she's already talking about coming back to try it. I've been trying to get her to try duck for a while, so I'm looking forward to that next visit. We'll definitely be back.

It has come to my attention that for the last 31 years that when I am craving really good authentic…read moreChinese food, I automatically go to PDJ. When some asks about bona fide Chinese dining that I always suggest PDJ first. The experience is sit down, formal, and shockingly consistent. The service level makes you think you are dining in this families home. The food is still the star of the show. The Peking Duck and Seafood Birds Nest are highlights. In reality, no matter what you like and spice level you are comfortable with you can't go wrong here. If you want to impress your lunch date, colleagues, or treat your loved ones, bring them here. The parking lot is cramped and gets busy during peak times. Thank you and congratulations on more than 35 years in Reno.
