Service with a smile and food was beyond delish! Excellent service and quality food. When in hood river this place is a MUST! Food was delicious,portion sizes are HUGE and food was hot. One of the best meals we've had in a long time. Only complaint was that we ordered a $6 kids meal, eggs, hashbrowns and toast. Asked to sub a blueberry pancake for the toast due to a food allergy. When we recieved the bill, we were charged per individual item. We would of ordered a different meal if I knew that a kids meal was going to cost over $12- If the food and service wasn't so good, then we would of complained. Hello fellow Yelpers, I am back once again for a review of egg river cafe. While the split parking lot was difficult for our talented driver to spot (which is surprising because she is an eye doctor), the outside is simply welcoming. Now, Let me take you on a journey of our 5 senses as I talk about our experience. Smell: To be transparent (truth and transparency is very important to me), I was worried a cafe that cooks eggs and fish would smell horrible, but I can happily report the smell is pleasant. Sight and Sound: I have combined these 2 senses and taken exception to my 5 senses rule to make a long story short (I value conciseness and transparency equally). Wanna talk about overwhelming? Sitting in this cafe was like driving a minivan with 7 seats filled, music blaring, and everyone sharing a bag of birthday bugles. It was claustrophobic and loud, similar to flying on spirit airlines (I would never). Taste: I want to specifically mention that our driver (the doctor I mentioned earlier who was our driver), order the salmon burrito. To quote: "it was um yummy; salmon-y and eggy". This is a fantastic example of the food. Touch: while it comes with the territory of breakfast food, things got messy quick. The salmon bagel we ordered came deconstructed, and we were FORCED to assemble it ourselves. This is was an unpleasant culinary experience. I must pick a straw with the straw situation. I dislike cafes which choose straws over our world and our turtles. I'm not sure what went wrong with the negative reviews. Our experience was great. We were there on a slow weekday, so perhaps that helped. I ordered the Western omelette. It was HUGE and delicious. What a great choice! So happy we stopped here. We came in this past Friday morning on our way up to Washington for vacation. I was debating between this spot and another in The Dalles, so happy I chose this place. Very homey, cozy, warm and inviting when you walk in. The restaurant is an array of eclectic wall art pieces on the wall. My daughter was fascinated with the gigantic rooster over our table. It was pretty packed in there for a Friday morning. Either it's just always like that or no one was at work in hood river that Friday. The streets and other restaurants we passed were pretty busy also. The parking is almost non existent. It is like 3 spots. We were lucky to snag the spot right in front as a couple was leaving. Now, the good stuff. The food was AMAZING!!! Omg. Highly recommend the farmers skillet. It was so good. Very large portions. We ordered our daughter the blueberry pancakes off the kids menu for 4.95 and they brought out two giant pancakes bigger than her body lol. Next time we're going to order off the kids menu. Staff is super nice and friendly. You could tell most people who were in there were regulars. It was a fantastic breakfast. 3.5 stars? Seriously folks? In Portland, 3.5 stars almost means it's not even worth trying... You should DEFINITELY try this place out! I have been to nearly every breakfast place in Portland, and I still wish we had a place like Egg River. Things I like about this place: You can see MT ADAMS looming over the horizon from the big, bright windows. The side of fruit is not some, half-arsed 99% cantaloupe/honeydew tomfoolery. You can get ALL GRAPEFRUIT. Grapefruit is my favorite fruit, and to have a large bowl of fresh, peeled grapefruit, in the NW?! Heaven. They've got a lot of menu options, everything from organicy-"granola"-y stuff to down-home diner-style stuff. There really is something for everyone. I'm a sucker for specials, and this place often has 5-6 of them, and they all look tempting The coffee is real good. Most importantly: THEY OPEN AT SIX AM. So you can have a hot breakfast before you hike in the Gorge or climb in the area. No one likes to open early in Portland and I hate to cook, so this is HUGE for me. Oh, and since this place is NOT located in Portland: you can get them to split a check and they won't look at you like you just said the holocaust never happened. read more

Friendly place, Egg River has classic big, big breakfasts: hash browns, eggs, toast and coffee in a diner style setting. They feature organic coffee, locally made and friendly local servers. Coffee roasted locally, but it did taste like diner coffee, just the same. Food was diner food, elevated with ingredients we were told were "local" and "fresh." These words were bandied about a lot during our visit to Egg River, and I appreciate that, but it didn't always translate into our overall experience. For example, the homemade corn tortilla in our huevos rancheros order --I really appreciate the flavor and texture of a homemade tortilla. Unfortunately, those huevos rancheros were so packed full of precooked, gritty bacon bits, it ruined the dish. A classic case of overkiill. While breakfast was $3 for kids elsewhere in town, here, we were not offered a kids menu (do they have one?) so our daugther ordered a huge adult breakfast at $15, of which she could eat only about a third. The best part was a homemade buttermilk biscuit --in hindsight we should have just ordered a biscuit and side of scrambled eggs. My husband's breakfast was your typical egg overload. Not inspired, but big, and man friendly. Our tab for three was about $20 more than a much better breakfast experience we enjoyed (for less) in town the following day. This was an overwhelmed, but well meaning service experience. When our youngster spilled a giant water glass, rather than generously helping us clean up a tidal wave, so we could all move on to eating food we had just been served, we were thrown an old yellow towel, which we used to try to sop up the mess as our server ran away, not to return again for 20 minutes. Sadly, the towel we were left with was insufficient to stop the spill. This giant wet mess was then left on our table for over fifteen minutes, meanwhile our food cooled, and we were wet, grumpy and quickly losing our appetites. We had to get up to ask them to remove the wet towel. Ugh. Think local dinner, well meaning, busy spot with big big portions and solid but really, just okay food. We arrived and asked to wait to clean up the table. The person used a dirty cloth from a bucket with the work almost black to clean it. So, I went to the bathroom got toilet paper, and cleaned it with the alcohol wipes we have. We thought the food could be worth it. Pancakes and omelets came tasting mushy, watery. I returned my complete and ate the toast only. The kids took a few bites from their packages and pushed it back. We go two Americanos that we could not drink. I only took one sip. Th Americanos are 4.50 each. This is the most expensive food that I was not able to eat or drink. I paid 40 for breakfast that I didn't eat. We left to another place down the street and got breakfast. The place is not clean and the food is not good. I would avoid it at all cost. read more

I thought this was a new place but DH reminded me that we'd been here before. Decent breakfast place with very little wait. I had the two egg breakfast while the DH had the sausage scramble. Both dishes were delectable and easy to go down. I wasn't that hungry but I ate almost everything!! Always like returning here. Cute country decor here. Great little place for breakfast, both my wife and I really enjoyed our meals (eggs benny and a skillet). The coffee was good, a major factor for me as I do love my coffee at breakfast. The servings were hearty, the service was efficient (although our waiter was somewhat aloof and impersonal). We both enjoyed the fun décor. Seems to be a pretty popular place: we arrived around 9:30 on a Friday morning and the place was packed. By 10:00, there was a line-up. But as others have noted here, the prices are high. Our meals were $14-15 each, so with coffee and tip, about US $40/CAN $52 for breakfast. And unless you get lucky enough to snag one of the 4-5 parking spots in front of the restaurant, parking isn't all that convenient. There's no WiFi in the restaurant. Still, we'd likely come here for breakfast again when we next visit Hood River. read more

Food was plentiful and service was super friendly and efficient. Prices just a bit higher than I expected but not unreasonable for brunch. My meal was around 14. The Mexican skillet. It was good with chorizo, eggs and potatoes. You could have hash browns j stead as with most meals. Might have gone up a notch with some salsa or sour cream. Menu is huge if you like tons of choices. I found it really hard to decide. Full bar which we enjoyed with brunch. Domestic on tap super inexpensive!! Saw other meals delivered and all were very generous portions. We probably should have shared. There was enough but I managed to eat it all on my own. My friend had the chicken fried steak and eggs. Again a huge portion. *Breakfast Review* Located at the corner of Oak and 13st streets just West of downtown Hood River, Egg River Cafe (formerly Egg Harbor Cafe) is a good place to have breakfast prior to playing in the outdoors of the Columbia River Gorge. I had the Traditional Omelet with bacon and jack cheese inside. It was large, tasty and not greasy. Bravo! I was also pleased with the side of cut grapefruit, as the sweet fruit countered the salty bacon omelet. The wheat toast was also very good...yes, I am actually commenting on the toast. My wife tried the strawberry waffles and they were tasty, though way too sweet for her tastes. Think strawberry pie. If sweet is your thing, you may want to give the waffles a try. Egg River Cafe was worth the trip. The food is good, the service above average and the view of Mount Adams (on a clear day) is wonderful. Tip: Parking can be tough, as there aren't street spots close to the restaurant. Try their small lot across the street if the few on-site space are full. read more

Visiting Hood River for the first time, found this place on Yelp... Drove around for a little bit trying to find parking (but I assumed that was a good sign!) ... Very friendly staff. I was alone, but it's definitely a family and group friendly place to hang out and eat. Food was great! ... At the recommendation of a fellow yelper, I tried the corned beef hash (which I love, but always end up disappointed with when I order it at restaurants)... NOT DISAPPOINTED AT ALL!!! We 5 (+ twins - almost 2 yrs) had breakfast during the week while on vacation. The"place was packed" with what appeared to be "locals." Probably 15-20 tables. We waited 1/2 hr to get seated and another 45 minutes to eat after we ordered. Had this happened elsewhere "I'd have been OTD (out the door) but, this experience was different. The "kidz" were "occupied" and it's a "good people watching" place. The food arrived which was excellent. The eggs "over easy" and undercooked as I had requested. The link sausage was good too. However for me it is a shame because the food is so good and Randa who claims herself to be in charge couldn't even be a bit sympathetic to a group of customers who had not noticed the policy on splitting checks. I won't lie, I was only here because my usual spot was closed. There's a pathology in our society when you can buy half-price socks at Freddy's at 5am on Black Friday, but you can't meet your basic human need for food [I know I'm being dramatic, but you see my point]. I've driven past this place a few times and wondered. From the outside it looked charming, unlike the first place I considered, which had the ambiance of a laundromat. Inside, it was generally charming, although slightly phony, as if they had bought a bunch of stuff from the "homey rustic feel" page of the restaurant supply catalog. The place smelled strongly of bacon, which would be a blessing for some patrons, but I prefer a neutral olfactory experience. No big deal though, at least it didn't smell nasty. Service was slightly slow/indifferent, but not a big problem, my coffee cup never went empty (my #1 service criteria at breakfast). As others have noted, prices seem a bit steep. I had a breakfast sandwich on bagel, which came with potatoes, and I think I paid about $16 with coffee. That's not shocking, but more than I would expect for a casual cafe on the, ahem, less-sophisticated end of the highway through HR. Food was pretty good. Potatoes were unique, and the sandwich was perfectly fine, nothing to complain about. Everything was presented well; my breakfast looked appealing. Almost forgot, there was no music. That always seems odd, especially when it's right after opening and the place is quiet. Overall, a nice enough experience, and glad I gave it a shot. read more

Wasn't sure if I accidentally left my horns uncovered, or, if it was the drinking straw that I asked for that caused the attitude. Whatever it was I will not be back. I honestly have no words, absolute ten out of ten experience. The service was extremely quick and friendly, but the highlight was definitely the menu. Not only did everything sound amazing, they had an extraordinary assortment of vegetarian and vegan options incorporated into every part. I got the farmers omelet, which was incredible, but my partner's veggie burrito really stole the show. This is a fantastic option for both vegetarians and carnivores alike, and I will be coming back every time I'm in Hood River to try something new! read more
