We were visiting a wedding venue viewing on Sunday & was looking for a place for breakfast while we wait for the viewing to occur & chose this place. I am saddened to say I don't remember coming here several years back - per my husband- but I can say I won't forget again. This place is an absolute gem! Luckily we got there early (opens at 0600 - got there around 0800) because after we sat down, it had a constant flow of traffic. Our party of 5 was sat quickly & order taken just as fast. In Oregon, they can't serve alcohol until after 0700 and when I saw their mimosa options I was get happy. I went with the standard mimosa while my husband went for the dole whip option. They were both excellent & priced well. We split the special eggs Benedict which had great flavor& presentation but the egg was over done which was slightly disheartening. I got a side of bacon to go (for my puppies) and cinnamon roll to go as well. I was full but couldn't go without it ! It didn't disappoint and sure would have been better if eaten there directly. Overall the menu is expansive and I will be back to try more options! If in the area, I would highly recommend stopping & giving it a shot read more

Our experience here was more than disappointing and we won't be back. First off when we arrived, there was a table ready right in front of us - everything else was full. The server asked us how many were in our party and when we said 2 she looked at the people who came in after us and asked them how many and they said 4. She seated them instead of us saying to us, you can just wait until another table opens up since you're just two people- it shouldn't be too long. Both my husband and I were flabbergasted. It should be first come, first served. Then the table that finally opened up after 5 minutes of waiting was a table for four. We mentioned to the hostess that what she did was not right nor good customer service. Instead of apologizing, she argued and said you didn't have to wait that long... we couldn't believe she was so dismissive and rude. On top of all that, when our food arrived my husband's fried eggs were under cooked and my scrambled eggs were like leather and had no cheese on top which I had ordered. Both of our potatoes were so drenched with grease we couldn't even eat them. The country fried steak was more greasy batter than meat, and the coffee was lackluster. We had come here years ago and really enjoyed our meal and the service. It is totally not the same restaurant. They obviously don't take pride in how they handle their customers nor the food they serve. Don't waste your money or time going here. read more

Egg River Cafe was fantastic! I was expecting standard diner fare based from when I walked in, but I was pleasantly surprised by the menu options. Of course they have the typical pancakes, omelets, etc. I was impressed by the breakfast tacos, burritos, and the garlic & brie egg breakfast. My group ordered all of those items collectively. The chile relleno breakfast tacos were a sight to behold. They were stuffed and difficult to eat with my hands, but the flavor was incredible and the hot sauce on the side was actually hot. I tried a bite of the chorizo burrito as well and it was also delicious! Would definitely come back here if I am ever in Hood River again. read more

Service was great! The food was delicious and great portions! My husband and I like to share an entree as our appetites are smaller these days and this was perfect for that. Any decent breakfast spot is guaranteed to be crowded on a weekend in Hood River, and Egg River, due to its proximity to downtown, is definitely on that list. Still our wait wasn't terribly long, and was worth it. My Chile Relleno breakfast tacos were an absolute flavor bomb, with the chorizo stuffed peppers playing off the mole rojo like long lost friends, smoky with just the right amount of heat. Nice portion size, too. As you probably guessed, you can get almost any egg-influenced dish you can think of here, from scrambles to omelets to Benedict's and beyond, and it all looked so good coming out of the kitchen (we were sitting right by it). The place is definitely cozy inside, like a small cabin with a diner vibe, with a bunch of wooden tables and booths scattered throughout and kitschy signs and tchotchkes tucked into the corners, but it is definitely cheery. As I mentioned, it gets pretty crowded on weekends and parking is tight, so get there early. Despite the hubbub, our server was efficient and friendly, so there's a very good chance we'll be back. Egg River is a classic brunch spot. My friends and I arrived around 8:30 on a Sunday, the place was busy but we sat down quickly. Most of the staff is quite young about high school age, they were all friendly and attentive. The menu does include gluten free toast, but the items are not clearly labeled if they are gluten free or not. FYI, if you are gluten sensitive, stay away from county gravy as this is typically not gluten free. The restaurant has homey decoration like you would see at your grandmas house. The food was just alright. The orange juice was a bit watery and not very flavorful. I ordered a vegetable scramble and was pretty underwhelmed with the dish. Not a ton of flavor. Good portion size. My partner ordered the sopes that they had for a breakfast special, he enjoyed his dish. We were a little confused by the random chicken wing in the center of the plate. Cozy, warm and very enjoyable brunch spot in Hood River. This is my 2nd time here and I just want to keep coming back. I had the Reuben sandwich as my first meal here and it was amazing. I remember the sandwich just melting in my mouth and the house potatoes we on a skillet with grilled veggies (sort of a Tex-mex grill). Overall very delicious. This time, today, I ordered the salmon avocado toast with a chai tea latte, and it was pretty much the same experience. Very delicious and a melt in your mouth experience with the poached egg. Ever since egg river changed hands, it's just not as good. The service is very slow and impersonal and the quality of the meals have declined. As an example this morning, my bacon was cooked perfectly, yet my hash browns were over cooked, again, my over medium eggs were barely cooked, and my biscuit was bland and doughy. Started with soft homemade corn tortillas, (if you want flour you don't deserve to eat this dish)sweet potatoes, chiles, cheese, pico, perfectly cooked runny yolk egg, topped with mole, queso fresco and avocado. Spicy salsa on the side. if you want something different for breakfast, you owe it to yourself to give this a try. While the service was decent, the food earned this review a very low rating. Here, microgreens meant chopped up curly kale. The salmon for my toast lie on a piece of lettuce that looked a week old or more. The chili rellenos tacos had a human hair in it. I left grossed out and wish I went elsewhere. read more
