Tucked into the Best Western Hood River is this lovely restaurant. The Mr. and I, along with our friends, enjoyed Sunday Brunch on the scenic patio. The Mr. and I both chose the Croissant Royale, S chose the avocado toast, and M had the Spiced Breakfast Burrito. The portions were generous and nicely plated. We all enjoyed our choices. Additionally, the Mr. and I ordered the strawberry shortcake to share. The base was a lemon scone, topped with fresh strawberries, and whipped cream. It was the best thing I ate in Oregon! I ate at this restaurant twice while staying at the hotel in March and April, once for dinner and once for breakfast. Both meals were great. Service was prompt, and the restaurant atmosphere is very pleasant. It's kind of funny because you'll have people in suits having a business meeting over dinner, and other regular hotel guests just dining casually in t-shirts and jeans. On both occasions, I was dining with another family member. When we were there for dinner, we were having a really hard time deciding what to order, and our server let us know that there was a 2-for deal going on for some of the pastas. Each of us had been considering a pasta, so that solved that problem! Both were delicious, and we had leftovers to take home. When we were there for breakfast, I was feeling adventurous and ordered the lox and bagel, which I've only had a very basic version of one other time. It was soooo good, and very filling. Several other options on the breakfast menu also sounded really good, but I'm glad I went with this for the experience. I'd definitely eat here again if/when I stay in the hotel again. Since there's no free breakfast offered by the hotel, they give you vouchers for the restaurant, so you can get a pretty good deal on a meal. read more

I'd give Riverside Restaurant a solid 4.5 stars based on our breakfast visit. I ordered the chilaquiles, and they were excellent, flavorful, still pleasantly crunchy where they should be, and just a really strong version of the dish. Definitely the standout of the table for me. Service was friendly and expedient, which I always appreciate in the morning when everyone is trying to get caffeinated and out the door. My companions ordered the protein bowl, which was a hearty mix of grains and grilled vegetables with your choice of tofu or egg. It leaned a little bland flavor-wise, but it did exactly what it needed to do: provided a filling, healthy base for a full day of activity in Hood River. Lovely location right on the river, exciting menu, huge lounge, great outdoor dining, delicious food and it stayed warm even while eating in the wind from the river. We enjoyed the fun cocktail menu, a must for me. The Javier Wallbanger was yummy, Smokey and sweet. My husband loved his lasagna and it was a good sized serving. The fried calamari is a must have and a large enough appetizer to easily serve 4. Our server was great and we're looking forward to returning. The ambiance here is immaculate. The restaurant features open views of the bridge and allows small glimmers of sunset via pink clouds over the river. The free bread was delicious and my favorite part of the meal. The gnocchi however somewhat uninspired for the price point though the portion was very generous. Despite it's location being inside a hotel, Riverside knocked it out of the park. We arrived about 30 min before they switched to the late night menu, and happily sat at the bar area. They have a great menu for non/low- alcoholic mocktails! They were one of the few places in town that actually uses Wilderton non-alcoholic spirits (distilled in the same area) in their mocktails. It looks seasonal too, since there was some holiday themed drinks when we were there. Our server/bartender said that they were doing a 2-for-1 pasta night so obviously we had to go for that. Not sure if that was typical on a Thursday night or if it was because we went there late. Pasta was delicious, nicely sauced and pasta still al dente! Ambience wise it was very festive, apparently this is where a lot of people stay for the Polar Express train nearby. So lots of people in pajamas! My daughter and I revisited Riverside- we stopped here 4 years ago after a great weekend together and after another fun experience in Hood River riding the Railbikes we were up for a meal & views!! Our server was fantastic and we remembered the beet salad from last time and reordered that- we also got steak sandwich to share. I'm glad we had the sandwich- the salad was totally revamped in a way that some may enjoy...but, we felt the previous version was better highlighting the beet. The new version was beautiful- but was too much... Too much carrot, and other root vegetables that overshadowed the beet. They removed it from the bill which we appreciated. The steak sandwich was very good, it needed a bit more fondue sauce to moisten the toasted bread...otherwise, great flavor! The staff here has always been so kind & we have not had to wait long to get sat & serviced. during the warmer seasons they have outdoor seating available with a wonderful view of the river and you see all these cute birds. they offer vegan and gluten free options! on one occasion my partner and i went out with his parents to celebrate a new job & a gentleman came out and gave us this vegan cheesecake! it was incredible and so kind. we have frequented this place many times as is it one of our favorites. read more

If you want ambiance of sitting by the river while sipping an excellent wine and then having an excellent meal, here's your stop! We sat right next to the waters edge outside on the patio. What a spectacular view for enjoying wine and food in Hood River, Oregon! We decided to order a Cesar salad to share, and the portion is easily large enough for two. The dressing on the Cesar is excellent. We then ordered the fish and chips and the Sleeping Beauty "Alfredo" that uses Cascadia Creamery Sleeping Beauty cheese, butter, chili flake, fresh linguine OMG. Both of these offerings were outstanding! The fish and chips comes with two very large prices of cod and chips (fries). I haven't seen fish like this in years! The batter was light and crispy and super flavorful. The Sleeping Beauty Alfredo was truly a dream. So rich and creamy we couldn't stop eating it and devoured it all. Great stop after a fun day exploring the Columbia River Gorge. The beet salad was so fresh, filling, and delicious. We heard someone in town suggesting the Best Western restaurant to a fellow shopper. We were checking in there next and thought it was a good sign to just eat here. The power went out in the town and hotel/restaurant. When lights came back on we headed to dinner. They had a modified light menu only. It didn't include any of the yummy dishes we just looked at through the online menu. Super disappointed, but at this point we needed somewhere to eat. We tried both of the flatbreads, which were not crisp enough on the bottoms and the toppings were not anything special. Got the pepperoni and the other pear one. It's so easy to make homemade pizza that I don't really understand how this can go so wrong sometimes. We also ordered the fish n' chips. The batter is not good and bit too thick and oily, but interestingly the fish inside was moist, flaky, and pretty good. The fries were meh. Would order the calamari again. Decided to swing by after staying in the BW and our party of four were mostly happy with our meals. There was a range of food options and the views were beautiful. The salmon was the hit of the night. The fish and chips were not very good though - thin portions stuck to the breading and fries that were way over cooked. We arrived at about 4:40 pm. Their happy hour runs until 5:00 pm. We asked the server about ordering off the happyhour menu and he said we couldn't. One of the members of our group told him that she was told that we could order until 5:00 pm. Server said OK and left. He didn't come back until after 5:00 and took the happy hour menus and said we couldn't order off of that menu. It was pretty much down hill from there on for me. The food was OK nothing to write home about. I had lemonade for dinner it was $6.00 a glass and if you wanted another glass it was 6.00 again. They also included the tip on your bill and it was 22%. Atmosphere was nice and wait staff were pleasant and helpful. However, the food left us all disappointed. Several of us had mussels and were disturbed by how overly fishy they smelled and tasted. We did not mention it to the waiter because we are from the East Coast and thought maybe it was just the variety of muscle itself. Spicy cauliflower was soso, zuppa pasta quite good, clam chowder tasty but too heavy on potatoes and the cioppino nice quantity of seafood but tasteless broth. The specialty here are their pasta dishes, and the prices of the meals are reasonable. Service was good, wine and alcohol very expensive. The setting is very nice looking over the Columbia River. Dinner: it would be beneficial if the menu indicated which items were gluten free as our server had to keep checking with the chef since the menu had recently changed. Nice green goddess dressing! Salmon was delicious and the focaccia bread was awesome. Breakfast: the breakfast menu is marked for gluten and vegan friendly items. I had the avocado toast and husband had a traditional gf eggs, potato and toast breakfast. This establishment seems to be committed to offering plant based menu items if that's what you are looking for. Staff is very friendly and the river view is exceptional. I wished they had a chicken Parmesan on the menu. We were going to try the eggplant Parmesan. However, plant-based cheese is not our jam. The mussels were ok, but not a fan of olives in the broth. Horrible experience. Either the place was understaffed or the employees didn't care. Took 20 minutes to get a drink order in, another 20 minutes to get the drinks. We had family visiting last November so we took them to Hood River and stopped by this spot for lunch. The best thing we ordered was the steak sandwich, literally so delicious. The clam chowder was the next best, super loaded with seafood and potato. The chicken pasta was good, slightly on the heavy side. The least favorite item was the Cioppiano, seafood was good, but overall was just ok, not sure if we will get again. Views were nice from this restaurant. Would be great to come during the spring! Enjoyed a lovely 4 course meal here for my birthday and it was truly a 5 star restaurant experience! Every staff member we encountered was extremely friendly and very accommodating; from the kind gentleman who helped us arrange to be able to move to the other area and that brought us bread to the servers we had taking care of us. The place itself has a lowkey upscale vibe to it, very moody lighting and great views if you're by the window before the sun goes down - perfect for a date night!! We had bread and salad while we waiting to move to the other dining area. The bread was ridiculously good (and they just kept bringing it!!) also the strawberry lemonade was one of the best i've had in a long time. We both enjoyed a salad as well until we moved and had pastas - both of which were delicious, I had the gorgonzola pasta and he had the pork pasta. We even got dessert to-go; tiramisu and strawberry shortcake. Loved both, especially want to note that the biscuits they use for the shortcake are exactly what I want when I order a strawberry shortcake.
