This is one of our go-to spots on Hood River. We've been here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and somehow they manage to nail it every single time. Today's mission? Split the St. Helens Burger, an order of fries, and a side salad with the recommended goat cheese (trust them--it was the right call). The burger was everything you want it to be. A fresh poppy seed bun, a perfectly cooked patty, sweet caramelized onions... and then came the poblano pepper. That little bit of smoky heat tied the whole thing together. Now let's talk about the fries because they deserve their own paragraph. These are, without question, my favorite fries. They arrived hot, crispy, perfectly golden, and had that satisfying crunch that makes it impossible to stop at just one. If you're a fry person, these alone are worth the visit. The side salad was fresh and flavorful, and the creamy goat cheese took it from "just a side salad" to something I'd happily order again. It was the perfect balance to all those delicious fries. If you're looking for a place that consistently delivers great food in a welcoming atmosphere, Kickstand Coffee should absolutely be on your list. We've yet to have a bad meal here, and it's one of those places we recommend without hesitation to friends, family, and anyone who asks where to eat. I now wish I didn't let my husband eat more of the fries. Gotta head back up there soon! There's always something with this place! So, tonight, after a 10 hour shift on a Sunday, I catch up to a birthday party in progress for my youngest girl's day care provider, who just turned 60. I'm over an hour late. Everyone else is already finishing up their drinks and meals. Wanting just one drink after a long day, I head to the bar! My wife asks me to get her one too. Here's where it gets bizarre. Kickstand has a bar...well, it looks like a bar. But what I found out is that it's just for looks because it doesn't act like a bar. I thought ordering two cocktails and paying for my drinks would be easy, like it is at every bar in town. But the bartender, I mean employee standing behind a bar, asked if I was with the large group. I stated, "yes, I was." Then she proceeded to tell me that the drinks would be on someone's tab. But I showed up late...I don't know what's happening. I don't know who's paying for the "tab". I just wanted to buy two drinks and walk away. But that wasn't allowed at Kickstand. Then another employee walks up and attempts to take my drink order. Super confused, I tell her the employee standing behind the bar just took my drink order. And then we proceeded down the tab conversation again. The second employee said because "we" were a party of 8 or more, I couldn't pay for my own drinks and I they would have to put it on the party's tab. But again, I don't know who owns the tab. If it was the woman having the birthday, I didn't want to add to her bill...on her birthday. Then they suggested I "could just Venmo" the party girl. No! I want to just order two drinks and have Kickstand take my money. Why wouldn't they just take my money?! The place was dead tonight, other than the 5 or so small daycarel families, sitting at their own tables, that made up the "party". I canceled my drink order and walked away out of protest and principal. When asked if I was with the big party, I should have said no I guess. Lesson leaned for next time, if there is a next time. I was greeted with a friendly smile at the counter where you order. I ordered a couple of glasses of their Pinot Gris, the queso fundido, and the Baja fish and chicken banh mi tacos. The gentleman who greeted me got my wine right away and could see that my hands would be a bit too full carrying them to our table on the outside patio. He graciously offered to take them out for me and did so with another smile. The queso was delish and had just the right amount of crunchy edges that form around the outside. It's the best part IMHO. Both tacos were so tasty. The Alaskan halibut had just the right amount of crispy coating that actually stayed crisp in the taco. The banh mi tacos were so flavorful and def reminded me of a banh mi sandwich. The wines were from Oregon and not box wines like so many places serve with limited choices. The patio is dog friendly and our dogs loved it. They had water bowls for dogs, cold water for people readily accessible outside, and misters running because it was hot and humid day. Parking was easy. Overall a great place to stop and grab a bite to eat. read more

Horrible from start to finish! - $20 burrito: seems like they stuff all the leftovers from the kitchen and plates into a tortilla. Had yellow rice, old meat, strange spices, and tasted horrible. 0/10 - Thai Salad with "Crispy" Tofu: AVOID! Terrible. Crispy tofu?? It was beyond soggy, wet, and seemed so old. Dressing on the salad got old quick. $20 for some lettuce, soggy tofu, and maybe 1/4 of an avocado. Make it make sense. And don't advertise "crispy" if you don't know how to make it. - staff had attitude, werent helpful, were distracted, and when I asked for a bottle opener, I was completely ignored. Overall, go elsewhere. We went to Solstice after this for dinner (after debating to go there for lunch), and it blew this junk out of the water. Not sure why it has high reviews on Yelp. So good! I haven't been here in years and I've been wanting to come back. Very glad I did! The food tasted so fresh and yummy. We came on a Friday, so they had some brunch food. I had the burrito bowl of some sort, with pork barbacoa, eggs, beans, salsa, added guac, etc. and it was so delicious. I posted a photo online and all my friends wanted to know where I got it haha. I also had a half sweet vanilla latte and that was super good too! My daughter had their quesadilla, also very good. I have been in a slump lately with restaurants around me all tasting like the same Sysco crap, I'm not sure where kickstand gets their food, but it at least tasted fresh and homemade, and they had a good variety on their menu. Loved their patio seating, dog friendly, they turned on their mister right as we were leaving too, I'm sure that's nice on a hot day. We stopped in after the morning rush for breakfast before heading west to hike to several waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge. Needless to say, coffee was first priority, but we also were looking for a decent breakfast to keep us going. At 9 am on a Wednesday, we were the only customers in the place. The barista/waitress was very helpful answering questions about the menu, and even gave us a view tips on which waterfalls to visit. Our lattes were very good, but my Breakfast Sandwich with Barbacoa ranks as the absolute best breakfast sandwich I've ever sampled. Wow, such an incredible palate pleaser, and very large for a breakfast sandwich. I just wish I lived a lot closer! We hung out for 90 minutes waiting for the skies to clear before starting our day. Went here on our way home to Corvallis after being in Hood River for days.. I was met with immediate REGRET.. regret that we hadn't been coming here every day we were in town. We stopped in for coffee and to try the donuts to take on our way out and I actually went back and bought more of the maple bacon donuts to take back. The donuts are incredible and the coffee was great. I wish we would have gotten to try everything else but if we ever come back to Hood River this is a must stop! I was fully committed to my burger, unwilling to put it down until it was all the way gone, burger juice running between my fingers, when I was startled by a complete disregard to cultural norms. (See image of psychology influenced colored light switches) When this guy was at Home Depot, the bright white bin must have been only one shelf away from the almond bin. Because thats a choice. This isn't creativity. This is psychopathy. I only can assume that what this switch does, is so bad, you mustn't speak of it and you certainly can't document it with a label maker. This cafe had amazing coffee and awesome breakfast! The lattes were super creamy and delicious. My group got breakfast tacos, the Ricky Bobby, eggs Benedict, and avocado toast. All of our group was super satisfied. My breakfast tacos were two stuffed flour tortillas, with super well rendered bacon and the green chili salsa that came with it was flavorful. We went to this cool spot for breakfast based off of other reviews. We were not disappointed. We shared a cinnamon sugar donut as an appetizer and then I had the Avocado Eggs Benedict which was SO DELICIOUS and my fiancé had the Auto Pilot and he really enjoyed it. Amazing! I wanted a healthy and filling breakfast after a long walk with the pup and this was the spot. I am gluten free and vegetarian PLUS wanted to eat indoors with my dog, and this place checked all boxes. I got the carmelized onion omelette with a side of gf garlic bread and fruit. Amazing! The sauce, onions, and cheese were fantastic and it was a large portion for the price. They also had a quality fruit bowl with berries and oranges, not all melon! The garlic bread was divine. My dog enjoyed a puppuccino with some little treats in it, so fun. You order at a bar and put your own dishes away, but the servers are still pretty cool. One server chatted with us and told us all the cool spots in the area we should check out. Great sense of community here, I loved how kind everyone was and how much love my dog got. I have had Molé all over the map, this place makes some of the absolute best house made Molé ever! It's a brown Molé, smokey, salty, and spicy, I couldn't taste any hints of chocolate. I HIGHLY recommend the Molé fried chicken burger. The chicken is buttermilk fried chicken with fantastic crispiness. Service is excellent, everyone is friendly there. Came here based on a local's recommendation during lunch time. When I arrived, I noticed the parking was limited and the coffee kitchen was actually connected to a bike shop. I walked through their open garage door, grabbed a menu, and sat down. Once I was ready to order, I went up to their bar to order all following their instructional sign. I ordered a lavender matcha latte and a banh mi street taco. The lavender matcha was well balanced and not too sweet, the way I like my drinks. The bank mi street tacos (2) was okay. Think they put a bit too much fish sauce on their chicken, and the pickled veggies want enough to balance the flavor. What a fun restaurant a bit tucked away into a neighborhood on the side of a (really cool) bike store. Good service, nice beer and mimosa, and inventive breakfast. I had the barbacoa Benedict, and my husband had something called Ricky Bobby (would love to know the story behind that name).
