We had a wonderful breakfast at Carmen's Kitchen. The staff were friendly and worked well together to ensure our experience was a good one. Two of us ordered omelettes and another ordered a burrito. The food was cooked well and we had no complaints. My boys can be picky when it comes to food and they finished all of their food. The restaurant was clean and the atmosphere was relaxed. A great lunch spot following a WA gorge wildflower hike. We came in between the breakfast and lunch waves and got seated at the two-top. Ordered coffee and then our meals. The breakfast crowd left and the team there asked if we wanted to move to any of the booths. We were fine but really appreciated the offer. I enjoyed my burger and fries and my friend enjoyed the zucchini omelet. Friendly and attentive team, street parking, wait to be seated/order and pay at your seats style dining exp and clean restroom. Would def stop by again on the way back from a hike. Had an absolutely amazing biscuits and gravy breakfast here with my best friend before a day of hiking. Paprika and dill were unique and made the dish stand out, which is impressive given what a staple they are of breakfast restaurants. Over-medium eggs were cooked to perfection and the breakfast potatoes were soft but still crisp. Great coffee, too, plus outstanding, friendly. Will definitely be going back. Owner was horrible tried to tell him the order wrong he took of ours, the Food could improve my eggs were undercooked & Along with my hash browns and my side order of French toast Was soggy with eggs .. tried to explain to the owner the quality of the food was terrible told us to get out and not pay. What a delightful find!! We stopped here on our way home after staying in Trout Lake to gaze at Mt. Adams and my husband and I really enjoyed our brunch here. I had the Junior omelet with gluten free toast and hash browns. It came with a drink and I had orange juice. Delicious! We sat in the window booth and enjoyed the view of the hillside on this sunny day. Customers were friendly and everything was pleasant. When my little tin of vitamins fell to the floor, the server (owner?) rushed over and offered a fork! How sweet! She thought I dropped my fork and anticipated my needs. One of the best tasting chilaquiles I have eaten. Interesting orange color instead of the usual salsa roja or verde. 4/5 Plating: I usually don't rate plating at a breakfast joint but for $11.99, I would expect a little garnish and a little more style. 3/5 Value: $11.99 is pricey for 2 eggs and tortilla chips. Granted the sauce was to die for but it's Bingen not Hood River. Geez for $12 garnish with cilantro and avocado and throw in some beans and rice. 2/5 Service: It wasn't busy and the service was attentive and excellent overall. 4.5/5 I like this place and will eat here again. Service was fantastic, atmosphere was great, however the Eggs Benedict was an unfortunate, gross mess. I'm not one to send food back, I will muster all that I can to chow through it before sending it back. But today, was not something I could stomach. The 1st try the eggs were overcooked and the hollandaise sauce was gritty, and separated. I sent it back, waitress was very understanding and accommodating. Came back with another one, this time the eggs were barely cooked watery and hollandaise was still gritty. The waitress comped our entire meal, we still left money that covered our bill, we truly appreciated her effort to make the situation better. Maybe the rest of the items are great, just don't order the eggs benedict or ask if the cook knows what they are doing. read more

When I order came out everything was cooked to perfection the red potatoes were delicious spices on those potatoes were amazing! Cooking is like art. Open to a variety of interpretations. Typically though if you're in a genre or on the theme your expectations become parameters. Take for instance huevos rancheros. Refried beans, avo, sour cream, a little salsa. Not here. They go way outta the box. 3 eggs, orange salsa, tortillas, and some diced under cooked spuds. I'm giving them three stars for pushing the limits which I generally applaud but their huevos rancheros are as close to huevos rancheros as it is to a fig Newton. After reading the previous reviews, this quaint little breakfast place served a flavorful chicken fajita burrito within a nice presentation of diced potatoes & pico de gallo. Great diner. I'm always happy to go here and enjoy anything on the menu and grab a cup of coffee.

Did not want to be in Oregon/Washington, but a family emergency brought me back out. Some of my family lives across from Hood River, and it's laughably difficult to find a place that will serve breakfast on that side of the river. The one place we went to in White Salmon just closed, which is a fitting end for any place that puts beets in the hash. The remaining places are more coffee shops than restaurants and seem hell-bent on serving breakfast pucks. I didn't even see Carmen's when I drove through Bingen or ate at my favorite pizza place just down the street from them. But Carmen's is the real deal. It's a diner, but not like the ones back on the East Coast. It's open only for breakfast and lunch, but it has chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, chorizo scrambles and a bunch of other Mexican dishes. The core dishes are exceptional, though. Hash brown were fried crisp, bacon was not (which is great, since I asked for them not to fry the life out of it) and the pancakes were thick and fluffy. They had a staff of three, but no table went unattended. It's a really tough place to spot -- and if you blink between the Subway and office building, you'll miss it -- but it's a great find for what's been an otherwise terrible trip. I just needed a diner to be a diner for about an hour, and Carmen's excelled at it. Thank you to all involved. read more

A very nice little quaint breakfast joint. Great for meeting up in the morning time to have your coffee and chat with friends. It is cozy and comfortable to have breakfast. However the breakfast was blah and no flavor. Even with salt and pepper it needed more help. The hash browns were really greasy and undercooked, the bread was hard and almost stale.
