We had the strangest dinner here. It was 9pm at night when our group showed up and we said there would be about 10 of us for drinks. They said they couldn't serve us at the restaurant even though there was room. Instead of telling us we could order food at the open table which we would have done but the host was blunt and rude we walked away and 10 minutes later they found the group saying we could sit back at the restaurant. We went in and ordered some drinks first and then looked at the happy hour menu. The waitress was very short with us. She didn't welcome us, smile or show any sign she wanted us there. We ended up ordering 3 or 4 pizza (each medium pizza cost $19) I can't honestly say that anyone should eat here. If you are looking for good food and a friendly environment in Stevenson try Big river grill, or red bluff. read more

This restaurant was a major disappointment. The food was not good, and the service was even worse. When we asked for a dessert menu, the waitress simply said, "Just chocolate cake with ice cream because it's after 9pm." It was 9:05 pm and the restaurant closes at 10. We asked what the options would have been for dessert before 9 pm and she said - "it doesn't really matter at this point." Do not order the chicken pesto pizza. It is a dry, flavorless flatbread. The only "pizza" worth eating was The Little Piggy, the only item that actually resembled a pizza. Overall, skip the restaurant. The setting is attractive, but the experience lacks everything else. It's like going on a date with someone who looks great but has a terrible personality. I'm torn between giving it a one or a two but a three never entered the picture. read more

We're staying at Skamania, so this is a natural go-to. We waited for a patio table, and were seated outside to enjoy the hot summer day. We started out with Rose' to kick off happy hour, and what goes well with that? Nachos!! I don't know if it was that I haven't eaten nachos in years (well, awhile) or that these are so over the top, but they were SOOO GOOD!!! They had tons of chicken, so much so that we shared the nachos and still left a good portion on the plate that we couldn't finish. And they were topped with green chiles, queso fresco, corn relish, black beans and cheesy sauce. They had a bit of a kick and were oh so flavorful. They really hit the spot!!! Like my review of Skamania Lodge itself, my experience with River Rock is tempered by multiple visits, but each of them so far apart, each may as well have been a fresh start. Fortunately, each of those experiences was very pleasant, so it's not as if there was a need for them to redeem themselves. The last time I frequented River Rock was for some corporate events, the details of which are lost in the shadows of time. I do, however, vividly recall a fantastic buffet, with ludicrously large cuts of juicy, tender prime rib, which is a pretty good testimony in itself. This time around, we only stopped in for a couple drinks on the way home, to enjoy the stunning vista view and uncommonly perfect spring weather in the PNW. Ordering our drinks was a simple matter of standing in line (when there was one, which only happened once), and selecting from the list of craft cocktails, or winging it and slinging a custom order of your own devising. Food can also be ordered take-away from the bar, but we were full from lunch at a nearby restaurant in Stevenson, so we took our drinks out onto the lawn, sat in a couple of the wooden chairs, and gazed out at the azure sky and calm waters, accompanied by a gentle breeze, laughing children, playful puppers and music from a wedding ceremony being held on the grounds, just down the hill. All in all, a pretty awesome way to wind down from what had been (at least at the start) a rather stressful and trying weekend for us. Upon our (likely inevitable) return to Skamania Lodge, there will be little reason for us to dine outside of River Rock, considering all of our combined experiences with their fantastic food, incredible service, romantic interior, and a breathtaking natural panorama just outside the massive windows. There are reasons this place has been so firmly entrenched in my memory for ~15 years, and all of them are (thus far) positive. I expect nothing less upon our next visit. read more

We put our name in with the hostess to be seated outside on the patio. She said if would be at least a 30 minute wait. No problem. We were seated with in 30 mins. The place was pretty busy for a Labor Day weekend. We were seated and it literally took 10 minutes for the waitress to come to our table. She finally showed up and gave us a couple menus. We already had our drinks from the bar. We ordered the chicken Cesar salad and the bacon cheeseburger. Both were really good. We got the sweet potato fries and they were good as well. Oh we asked for a water a couple times and she finally brought us waters. At the bar thy charge soy for drinks. $26.00 for a whiskey sour and a red wine. Ouch. Oh well, that's life. Overall it a great place to get a bite to eat and enjoy the wonderful view of the Columbia River Gorge. read more

I'm sorry, it just wasn't great here. I wouldn't leave a negative review on our food if we hadn't spent $80 on two pizzas, a side of fries, & 2 lemonades. The pizza was...well, as my kids both explained after their first bite, "just like Chuck E. Cheese!". So if that's your thing, you'll enjoy it here. The crust was good but the sauce was too sweet & the cheese was an underwhelming standard cheddary blend straight from the supermarket bag. Just...not great. The lemonades, I was excited for as they were huckleberry flavor, but they were pretty watered down and a crazy price once I saw the bill. Fries were fries..again, nothing amazing. When we arrived @ the lodge we were ready for a late lunch. I ordered Chinook Salmon chowder that is excellent and I had remembered how good it was on prior visit. Bill had buffalo chili served with 3 mini cornbread muffins. He asked to taste mine. Then ordered a bowl for himself. We were both full. I came back in for dinner while Bill attended a business dinner. I had a hard time deciding what I wanted due to the great menu selections. We were here for lunch on a week day. The River Rock is their casual dining place and bar. The menu is very limited and the evening menu after five is better but still doesn't amount to much. We were told the main dining room has about the same menu. This is a grand resort beautifully located with a wonderful view of the Columbia River and I expected upscale dining but it isn't so. We had fish tacos, a burger, and some fries, all just fine. The fries were crisp and hot as requested. Our server was excellent. Cost: $37 plus tax and tip. I can't get over the feeling that this resort deserves better. At one time there was a magnificent Sunday brunch in the vey nice main dining room. They're no longer doing that. We made a reservation for their famous prime rib dinner two weeks in advance and drove an hour and got a room to celebrate our anniversary. We waited 45 minutes past our our reservation and when seated learned they were out of prime rib. Our waiter told us this happens most Saturday nights by about the time of our reservation. Bummer. Had wanted to try their famous dinner for a dozen years. Very disappointing first for the wait and then for what felt like deception. We won't be back. read more

Visited while staying with family in Oregon; we enjoyed crossing the bridge into WA and the drive to the lodge was so pretty. We ate outside on the patio - such a gorgeous view. Our server was top notch, friendly and efficient. Everyone cleaned their plates. Three of us ordered the same salad with spiced nuts and chicken, and we all loved it. The River Rock is the bar/cafe located in the Skamania Lodge Hotel. It is a bright and airy space with an outdoor patio (in season). They feature a full bar, with some very tasty house cocktails, as well as a small but comprehensive wine selection and a much larger beer menu, with the emphasis on local selections. The food selection is smaller, but much more affordable than in the adjacent Cascade dining room. We had the Buffalo Chili (excellent) and the Mac n Cheese (again, excellent!). This is a great place grab a burger. The bar high tops look across the lawn and over the Columbia river gorge. It is loud during the afternoon when it gets packed, but if you have a large party they can fit up to 12 or 14 people at the large central tables. read more

Dined in on 2/25/23. Ordered a bowl of bison chili and a bowl of chowder. My kid had kid's burger and fries. The bowls were not bowls, they were cups. Very, very small portions for $11 each. We get no silverware or napkins. My $16 burger would've been better at McDonald's. The fries are terribly overcooked so much so that they are hollow in the center. I ordered pork nachos that had no real cheese and grossly old pork. I sent it back and when I finally got the burger for replacement my guests we're finished eating very poor never again. read more

We went here on a Friday night when the hotel was completely booked and were able to get a seat on the patio right away. I had the steelhead tacos because the server said it was his favorite thing on the menu. It came with 3 tacos with large portions of fish. They were delicious! The view is great from the patio. I have been coming here the last 6 years due to a work related conference. There is not much to do here in Stevenson, therefore, they have a pretty good market. The food can be a little pricey for a laid back lounge type of atmosphere but I have found it to be more than tolerable considering the view and the food. I like eating here as opposed to eating in their main kitchen; The Cascade Room, mostly due to pricing. I have had many things but the ones that stand out are: App: Fried Brie, Nachos with Brisket. Those are pretty yummy, I also really like the Middle Eastern platter but I cannot bring myself to pay for hummus, considering it's so simple to make Helen Keller can make it with mittens on. Entrees: I really enjoyed their burger, medium with cheese and bacon it does not disappoint. For $17 you can get their grilled wygu flank steak, this is not bad but it may leave you a little hungry if you do not get an app to precede it. The Drinks: They are great, especially since I have never had to pay for them, and no it is not because I have sexy legs and I know how to perfectly whisper softly..... So while in Skamania this is a pretty safe place to frequent, it is close, meaning in right next to the lobby and you can always get a discount if your are staying at the lodge. read more

Ehh, nothing too special but if you hiked six or so miles before settling down to lunch you would definitely be satisfied. They do have good beer on tap and their wood fired pizzas are good, if you order correctly. We ordered the Farmer's Market pizza (Roasted Tomatoes, Red Onions, Artichokes, Mushrooms, Goat Cheese, Truffle Oil) and had them add chicken. I need my protein and the only other meat-pizza option was BBQ chicken. The view from the deck is nice, if you can get a table, they are certainly at a premium on weekends. Umbrellas will shade you from the sun on a warm summer day. The bartender and wait staff were average. The hostess here left a lot to be desired so I hope she was just having an off day or gets some training. The conversation went like this: Us: Hello, Hostess: Hi. Us: We'd like to have lunch. Hostess: . . . [silence] Us: Is it open seating or do you seat us? (as we're looking at her to see if she has a name tag, I started to think maybe she didn't work there) Hostess: I can seat you. Small menu but good variety. Salmon chowder needed seasoning. Would've been more flavorful if it was smoked salmon. Nice and creamy though. Caesar salad was HUGE. Ok, so you're at a resort (or in this case lodge but same difference really) and you don't have a ton of choices unless you leave and go into town or whatever. The River Rock is sort of the bar at Skamania Lodge and they offer some pub style foods to accommodate those that want to have some grub or a snack while they're enjoying their day in The Gorge. Yes, their prices are a bit spendy but this is to be expected because, again, it's a resort type destination. I have yet to stay at a locale like this that doesn't have mildly inflated prices so I won't bother with that angle. It wasn't hyper inflated but a good pint will set you back $8 or so. I had a couple pints of a local beer brewed in Stevenson, WA called "Walking Man IPA" and it was dang tasty. Great floral notes, good hopping, and very smooth. My wife went with mixed drinks to start and they offer all the standard alcohol to make pretty much whatever you want. We had a half plate of Nachos here for $8 and it was more than enough to get us a good snack in and prepare us for a day of lounging in the sun, hiking around the grounds of Skamania Lodge, and drinking copious amounts of beverages. The Nachos were damn good too, lots of cheese and salsa, and the chips weren't overly salty either. We came back a couple times throughout the day for a drink and the nice thing is you can grab something and go walk around after paying for it, so you're not confined to the inside of a bar. The service was amazing and the waitress who helped us initially was friendly and prompt and had some good pointers for if we had time to check out anything outside the lodge even (we didn't have enough time to do any real exploring unfortunately) but the experience was great! I was really impressed with the menu offerings. Everything we ordered had fresh ingredients and was presented nicely but not too pretentiously. The deck view was calming and enjoyable. The place was very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Something for everyone on the menu. For two people we felt that it was pretty expensive for taco lunches with two drinks, coffees, and two desserts (over $110) but aside from the $$$ it was a lovely experience and I'd return. read more

On a beautiful clear sunny day, our family enjoyed a relaxing weekend afternoon on the spectacular outside deck! The waiter never let our water glass go less than half full, the kids were overjoyed to run amuck on the expansive green lawn, and the kids meals were well priced and kept them full! I would give 10 stars for the ambiance of sitting there overlooking the Columbia River Gorge, and the service was spectacular. I take off a star because we drove all the way there from Portland for their salmon chowder, which used to be full of salmon chunks and flavor. Instead it's turned into a white potato chowder with barely a hint of salmon flavor, and no discernible chunks at all! Still, I'm happy to overlook it for the joys of everything else! read more

Stayed at the lodge and enjoyed the Sunday brunch buffett. $19 gives one a delectable selection of fruits, pastries/muffins, scrambled eggs, thick cut bacon, sausages, roasted potatoes, salmon hash, oatmeal and coffee/tea/OJ. I wish I was able to express the same feeling about the food and the service, but is not the case. The food was not cook properly, no flavor either, the Prime rib was truly disappointing, two of us did not eat the prime rib steak it ended up in the trash. I feel sad saying this because I love prime rib, the cook or chef needs a better handle on their cooking. The Pizza was one of the worst we have eaten. Customer service that evening was far from good service. The following morning was completely different and much better. There is 15% tip added to your total, not sure why since they are not providing a service of catering to us at the table, we are only buying the food. Everyone eating outside had to clean their table and trash their leftovers and run back inside to get your own refills. To us, our party, we are accustom to leave 15% to 30% base on the service and food. read more

Soo it's okay.. a bit overpriced but than again whenever staying at any resort what restaurants on sight aren't overpriced. The customer service was amazing, However the food was like bleh okay. I ordered the Parmesan fries and the shareable Brussels sprouts. The fries came in a big plate but the Parmesan was legit that powered stuff they sprinkled on top. Like you don't actually taste the Parmesan unless you scoop with your fry and hope it doesn't fall off before it gets to your mouth, the Parmesan was just a cute garnish. The Brussels sprouts were way overcooked like all the leaves have fallen off and were burnt. There weren't that many Brussels sprout heads to actually eat. So with drinks and food plus tip our bill was $99 for two adults. ( my husband ordered the tacos and a salad) Would I come back maybe just because it's convenient but I would be super mindful what I get and I wouldn't come hungry. Lol read more

Three stars is about right for the river rock. This is based on four stars for the food and two for the service. I had the cavatappi with salmon and my wife had the wedge also with salmon. Both were well prepared and tasty. The service was all over the place. It took 15 minutes to bring the water. We ask to ask another server to get ours to come. Then we asked for a wine list, and the person brought the same menu that we already had, which she could've seen on the table if she had just looked. That menu was cocktails and wine by the glass. She recovered a bit later. The wine list is good, the beer list is very limited especially for the northwest, and considering that there are like 15-20 breweries within 1/2 hour of here. But I noticed a lot of people drinking coors light (which my predictive text tried to spell as coots...), so maybe they've never felt the need to expand the list. read more

Ate a late lunch here after arriving at Skamania Lodge. Despite the ratio of waiters to tables being 1-to-1, the service was really bad. Our waitress never told us there were lunch specials (I overheard the specials after we ate our meal and someone else sat at the table next to us and had a different waiter). She also was nowhere to be seen throughout our meal, so we couldn't order a cup of soup that my daughter wanted when she tried mine, and it took about 15 minutes before she noticed that we weren't eating our meals. My daughter ordered the kid mac and cheese. We sent it back. You know how you make a roux with butter and flour and then whisk in cheese? Well this tasted like they forgot the cheese and the flour wasn't cooked down and they dumped this runny, floury sauce over whole wheat pasta tubes. It was amazingly bad. When the waitress finally resurfaced, I asked her if the kitchen tasted their food before sending it out. She seemed irritated by that. I had a black bean and quinoa burger. It was mushy. I was starving. I ate it anyway. It was a looooonnnggg lunch, not because we wanted to linger over it but because of the non-existent service. And little did I know that the poorly trained wait staff was to be a repeat at dinner service in the Cascade Room, where again, we got a waitress that seemed to not know what the specials of the day were and didn't care. It's a shame Skamania Lodge has two such disappointing restaurants on site. It really brought down my opinion of the place. read more

I had a cup of the salmon chowder and split the sliders, all of it was delicious and the ambiance was very casual and laid back for being an upscale establishment. My kiddo had some really really cheesy Mac and cheese, can't complain at all about the experience. The view was great from the patio and we really enjoyed walking around the grounds afterward. read more

While I was staying at the Skamania Lodge for a work meeting, I dined in the RIVER ROCK, which is the bar and grill in the hotel. I went there twice actually. Once for a beer, the other for dinner. They do have a decent selection of premium beers and local selections on tap, so I enjoyed a local IPA and chatted it up one evening. The bar was pretty cool. But the second night, I tried the four cheese flatbread - and frankly, it sucked. I think it might have been the sauce, but it just tasted plain and boring. Basically, zero soul or love was put into the making of this pizza. Let's face it there isn't much to do in Stevenson, Washington. So, I'd recommend the River Rock for Beer and Appetizers - but I didn't really like my dinner there. 2.5 Stars read more

My wife and I ate breakfast here for our first year anniversary. Our server was a very friendly kid who unfortunately got my wife's order wrong (he brought her out over cooked bacon instead of ham).
