Strawberry rhubarb pancakes

We had a Delicious breakfast inside Skamania lodge. The pancakes were delicious and so was the eggs Benedict.

Nachos with chicken

We're staying at Skamania, so this is a natural go-to. We waited for a patio table, and were seated outside to enjoy the hot summer day. We started out with Rose' to kick off happy hour, and what goes well with that? Nachos!! I don't know if it was that I haven't eaten nachos in years (well, awhile) or that these are so over the top, but they were SOOO GOOD!!! They had tons of chicken, so much so that we shared the nachos and still left a good portion on the plate that we couldn't finish. And they were topped with green chiles, queso fresco, corn relish, black beans and cheesy sauce. They had a bit of a kick and were oh so flavorful. They really hit the spot!!! I highly recommend giving them a try!

Like my review of Skamania Lodge itself, my experience with River Rock is tempered by multiple visits, but each of them so far apart, each may as well have been a fresh start. Fortunately, each of those experiences was very pleasant, so it's not as if there was a need for them to redeem themselves. The last time I frequented River Rock was for some corporate events, the details of which are lost in the shadows of time. I do, however, vividly recall a fantastic buffet, with ludicrously large cuts of juicy, tender prime rib, which is a pretty good testimony in itself. This time around, we only stopped in for a couple drinks on the way home, to enjoy the stunning vista view and uncommonly perfect spring weather in the PNW. Ordering our drinks was a simple matter of standing in line (when there was one, which only happened once), and selecting from the list of craft cocktails, or winging it and slinging a custom order of your own devising. Food can also be ordered take-away from the bar, but we were full from lunch at a nearby restaurant in Stevenson, so we took our drinks out onto the lawn, sat in a couple of the wooden chairs, and gazed out at the azure sky and calm waters, accompanied by a gentle breeze, laughing children, playful puppers and music from a wedding ceremony being held on the grounds, just down the hill. All in all, a pretty awesome way to wind down from what had been (at least at the start) a rather stressful and trying weekend for us. Upon our (likely inevitable) return to Skamania Lodge, there will be little reason for us to dine outside of River Rock, considering all of our combined experiences with their fantastic food, incredible service, romantic interior, and a breathtaking natural panorama just outside the massive windows. There are reasons this place has been so firmly entrenched in my memory for ~15 years, and all of them are (thus far) positive. I expect nothing less upon our next visit.

Loved having breakfast here. We were able to order smaller oatmeal off the kids menu. Great service and food

Enjoying the view.

We put our name in with the hostess to be seated outside on the patio. She said if would be at least a 30 minute wait. No problem. We were seated with in 30 mins. The place was pretty busy for a Labor Day weekend. We were seated and it literally took 10 minutes for the waitress to come to our table. She finally showed up and gave us a couple menus. We already had our drinks from the bar. We ordered the chicken Cesar salad and the bacon cheeseburger. Both were really good. We got the sweet potato fries and they were good as well. Oh we asked for a water a couple times and she finally brought us waters. At the bar thy charge soy for drinks. $26.00 for a whiskey sour and a red wine. Ouch. Oh well, that's life. Overall it a great place to get a bite to eat and enjoy the wonderful view of the Columbia River Gorge.

We arrived at Skamania Lodge hungry! We went to the River rock room. Decided to sit outside. A nice day in the Pacific Northwest. What a view! Beautiful Columbia river and mountains. We ordered the deconstructed chicken nachos. Really good. Achiote pulled chicken,gr. Chili, spicy queso sauce. They had Blue, red, and yellow chips. Fresh. Yummy.

When we arrived @ the lodge we were ready for a late lunch. I ordered Chinook Salmon chowder that is excellent and I had remembered how good it was on prior visit. Bill had buffalo chili served with 3 mini cornbread muffins. He asked to taste mine. Then ordered a bowl for himself. We were both full. I came back in for dinner while Bill attended a business dinner. I had a hard time deciding what I wanted due to the great menu selections. Since I had a late lunch I ordered the Wild Forest Mushrooms. They were excellent and filled me up.

The River Rock is the bar/cafe located in the Skamania Lodge Hotel. It is a bright and airy space with an outdoor patio (in season). They feature a full bar, with some very tasty house cocktails, as well as a small but comprehensive wine selection and a much larger beer menu, with the emphasis on local selections. The food selection is smaller, but much more affordable than in the adjacent Cascade dining room. We had the Buffalo Chili (excellent) and the Mac n Cheese (again, excellent!). This is a great place grab a burger. The bar high tops look across the lawn and over the Columbia river gorge. It is loud during the afternoon when it gets packed, but if you have a large party they can fit up to 12 or 14 people at the large central tables.

We enjoyed the view and the $30.00 prime rib meal! It's a very cute restaurant for dinner and the lodge is stunning!

I also order the steak bites and together makes a tasty meal. Big enough I take half of each home for a meal later. My usual go to is the Taphouse Burger. I often add a second patty. The owner Tina is so kind and sweet and she has a great staff. The newer outdoor BBQ area that is open when its nice out is freaking out of this world tasty with all the meats!! We're back! 2 weeks later than my last review because the Gorge, Brandy our gracious and loving…read moreserver, dining tent deck view/ambiance, FOOD and "gluttony memory" called us back! An epic Breakfast menu for foodies and standard fair breakfast/brunch lovers is new and ON at Clark & Lewie's - designed and prepared by Brandy's husband and chef Tony! A "first" review challenge for me: How to write in "groans and sighs." Because words just won't accurately communicate the sophisticated, savory flavors, texture and clear love of food like we experienced. Crepes. Yes crepes! They offer two varieties that I couldn't choose from, so they offered one of each! The first is bacon, cheese and egg, and the second with ham/cheese and raspberry jam? The first bite - oooooohhhh - the texture that hits your mouth says "do I have your FULL attention?". And the first auditory responses are moans, groans and a few unsavory expletives....for which you quickly apologize to your dining partner. And your eyes lock on your food and fork - and then partner - with some serious "affection." Holy crap! Then the biscuits and gravy...equally not your standard fair with ample extra creamy servings of love and satiation. We also had to try an extra side of their potatoes obrian which are also not you standard fair and clearly trying to hold its own as a lead entre vs side. Moist, savory and incredible dipped in the gravy:) And then the bloody Mary's! Please note in the pictures the massive thick piece of bacon, that they cook in the oven with cayanne and brown sugar! And ALL of this backed by a scenic Columbia riverside view with its sleepy, eerie and calming mountain peaks, clouds and shimmering light. I must again reference our (local) server Brandy, and her incredible multi-talented husband Tony- they are the heart behind your entire dining experience. Brandy's piercing blue eyes radiate her love of what she does and her life with her large family here in the gorge. Richness in every level that pleases all your senses and soul. Oh! And with a bag full of breakfast leftovers, we ordered a full serving of their famous beef and elk stroganoff to take home as well!:) We'll be back!

Dialing…read more"4000" from our room phone, we ordered the Steelhead Omelet and the Breakfast Tacos, and both were delivered lightning quick! Like, I jumped in the shower, and it arrived before I was finished! How's that for service?! The dishes arrived hot and fresh, packaged in to-go containers, as is the norm these days, but that did not detract from the experience. The Breakfast Tacos were incredible, perhaps the best I've had, thanks to an awesome salsa topping, a dash of lime juice, and delicious roasted potatoes. I would have trouble ordering anything else for breakfast here, on future visits. My wife's Steelhead Omelet, filled with delicious smoked salmon, cream cheese, and assorted veggies, was also wonderful (I had a few more bites than I probably should have), and more fantastic roasted potatoes on the side. It doesn't look all that fancy, but it's like a Christmas present: who cares about the packaging, when the stuff inside is what counts?! Prices are surprisingly reasonable for the things that we ordered, considering the size of each entree. I've had far worse meals, for far more money, so we were very content with every aspect of our order, and without any added overhead for the "convenience" of having it brought to our room. When it comes to "room service", this is the kind of service you want, every time. Very recommended.
