We rolled into Cascade Locks on a Sunday in July, the kind of Gorge afternoon where everyone within fifty miles has the same idea: get out, get sun, get a burger. Eastwind Drive-In sits right on Wa Na Pa Street, red and white building, that iconic soft serve and hamburger sign swinging out front like it's been doing this since before any of us were born. And it has. The line was out the door and down the sidewalk by 3pm, easy thirty minute wait, and nobody seemed to mind. That tells you something before you even taste the food. We ordered the double bacon cheeseburger, and it did not disappoint. Real griddled beef, two patties, melted cheddar doing exactly what melted cheddar should do, crisp lettuce, all of it stacked on a sesame bun that held together through the whole ordeal, which matters more than people think when you're eating standing up in a parking lot with a dog giving you the full guilt trip. Speaking of: we took our food down to the park by the lake, picnic tables under the trees, and Willow, our English lab, decided that burger was the single most important object in the entire state of Oregon. Nose right up against it, patient as a saint, working every angle. She didn't get any. She deserved some. That's the tension of loving a good dog and a good burger at the same time. Prices are fair for what you get, hamburger starts under seven dollars, the shakes and soft serve looked like the real draw for half the line, and the menu board out front covers everything from tater tots to Italian cream soda, which is a detail I did not expect and now can't stop thinking about. I came for one thing-- an ice cream cone! I was NOT disappointed! Knowing that they have a reputation for being HUGE, I chose to only get a MEDIUM. I haven't had a cone this big since I was a kid and the little place in Sandy Oregon made these usage swirl ice cream cones! This was so big, especially for only $6! I ended up sharing with my pups (they were very happy about that, for sure!). Definitely have to stop here any time you're near Cascade Locks! Also worth mentioning that they open early (8 am, I believe) but also close early (5 pm). read more

We've been coming here every time we are in cascade locks. They have the best soft serve in town and they aren't messing around with the size. You can get a variety of flavor burst flavors on your soft serve. They also have great sandwich, burger, and fishwich options. It's a small family owned business but there is always a love at the walk up counter or the drive through. If you ask me, it's like a hidden jewel in the Columbia River Gorge. If you are ordering anything but ice cream through the drive thru you'll have to wait in the parking lot but the cook brings it out to you. There is no inside seating but a couple of tables outside. I usually order and go to the park nearby to eat. Great service and delicious food! read more

East Wind reminds me of an old timey ice cream parlor. The ice cream is my favorite menu item. It is located in the beautiful Columbia George. Outside seating in the summertime makes it possible to enjoy the beautiful views in all directions. We love to take our grand sons there for lunch and an ice cream treat! read more

Don't stop! Food was terrible. Worse than a public pool snack bar. Paid over $35 for lunch and they wouldn't let us have tartar sauce for our fish and chips. We always love this historic drive-through in Cascade Locks, I can remember coming here on field trips as a kid! They are one of the few places, if not the last, in Oregon that still has the Blue Goo ice cream that I love. The burgers aren't the best, neither are the fries, you can tell the burger patties were recently frozen and maybe a little freezer burnt and the oil was old for the fries, but overall we always stop in when we come by. Only suggestion I'd have is skipping the fried foods, the old oil gave us minor stomach aches and the ranch we paid 0.50c for had a weird taste and was yellow. Doesn't kill the entire experience for us but in the future we'll order something else! read more

After driving past East Wind Drive-In in Cascade Locks dozens of times, I finally decided to check out their flavor burst ice cream that is getting lots of attention on social media. Although it was a rainy and gray afternoon, this ice cream cone brightened my day! The drive-in is charming and unpretentious, with that roadside Americana vibe that is always so inviting. I was in the mood for their flavor burst ice cream cone that has a spiral of flavor injected into the soft serve as it fills the cone. It looks beautiful and tastes delicious! Be warned, though, the medium cone is more than enough! I think the large cone may be 12 inches tall, or more! The service was quick and friendly, and the staff came out to say hello to my pug. I recently stopped by here for lunch and ordered the bacon cheeseburger, a small curly fry, and a medium blackberry shake. The staff was working super hard. It seemed like there was only one person taking orders for both the front counter and the drive through. It looked like they could have used at least one more person. So, the wait was a bit on the longer side, but I wasn't in a rush. A lot of other people looked like they were on their lunch breaks, but I'm basically on vacation right now. Anyway, the shake was fire. I would definitely come back for that alone. I'm not sure what kind of ice cream or blackberry topping they were using, but it tasted delicious. Of course, this area of Oregon is famous for marionberries, which are my favorite. Yum. The curly fries tasted exactly like the curly fries you would get at any big fast food chain. The burger was honestly about the same. My sesame seed bun was actually a little bit stale, and the tomato slice was barely existent. It was still all good, and I definitely ate it all, but it was just average. Nothing special. $20 for the whole meal seemed a little high to me. The prices seemed to be more for the location than the meal. The location could not be more ideal. It's right on the edge of the Columbia River Gorge, within walking or cycling distance of Bridge of the Gods. The whole town is basically walkable. Definitely a cute place to stop by, but the food just wasn't my favorite. Except for the ice cream, which, like I said, I would definitely come back for again. read more

Found this place by accident yesterday while exploring the old Hwy 30 and checking out the beautiful waterfalls in the area. I love mistakes like this. I also love places like this because they remind me of my childhood and i like supporting small business so as far as i was concerned this was a win win. We ordered the bacon cheese burger, large curly fries and a medium blackberry shake, because we were informed that the blackberry were local. I absolute loved the service they were super friendly and the food was great. Skip the nasty corporate food and drive out to these guys. Our food with the shake was $20 which for us was a deal we shared everything between two of us and it was a perfect amount of food. We will be back in this area in a day or two and will probably stop by just to get another shake. While we were waiting for our food we noticed that the soft serve cones were very popular as that is what the majority of people were ordering. I highly recommend this little spot especially if you like nostalgic little places that serve great burgers fries and shakes. read more

While in Cascade Locks, I noticed a semi-long line at East Wind Drive-In and decided to stop for some ice cream on a warm day. The wait wasn't too bad, as most customers were ordering ice cream swirls from the window, which we did as well. We got a medium-sized vanilla with cherry swirls to share. Got a small tropical orange at 8am since we tried to come the day before but the hours were wrong on yelp and it was closed. Needless to say, it was empty. During the time we were there one other person came up to order breakfast. 100% worth. Left Cascade Locks without any regrets.
