The views are worth the experience. If you come in while it's a colder month you need to bundle up as they don't seem to use the heat much. Their dining room is very large and seems oversized for what their kitchen is capable of. I don't recommend dining here with larger groups. If your staying at the lodge I highly recommend you dine early as if any large groups come in they will tell you the kitchen can't handle any additional diners. I got the raviolis and it was decent. The drinks took so long to come from the bar they were very watered down. The views make it a destination, the food is an after thought. read more

We've lived in Stevenson for over 3 years and I keep forgetting that the lodge has the best breakfast in town. I got the smoked steelhead hash which was amazing!!! Highly recommend if you're into fish. There was a good amount of food. Pancakes were fluffy and you get a lot of them and the pimento chicken sandwich was delicious and it was gone within 4 minutes. I'd give them 2.5-Stars if half-stars were possible, so I'll round up. This restaurant is located in the beautiful Skamania Lodge hotel & conference center. This is their more upscale dining option there (elevated menu & on the pricey side), as they have a more casual lounge dining room on-site as well. This dining room is beautifully decorated, but it's your typical nice hotel style dining room that's large with high-ceilings, so it doesn't have an intimate or romantic feel. Not a problem, just mentioning it in case that's the vibe you wanted. The staff were friendly & helpful. Our food was delicious at the start when it was still hot/warm: the Hubs had their Lamb Ragu, and I had the Halibut. Portions were exactly enough for you to eat it all and feel just satisfied, but not stuffed, without any leftovers. I was hoping portions would be a little bit more, based on the price, but given the high cost of groceries these days, I understand. What wasn't so great? In a word: cold. Their dinner service starts at 5p and we arrived a few minutes after that time, so we were part of their first diners of the evening on a Saturday night. We ordered their small loaf of warm sourdough bread & butter to have with our meal. The bread was lukewarm, but the butter, which had been previously whipped & piped into a little ramekin ahead of time, was cold & hard, as it must have just came out of the fridge. The plates our entrees were served on were also cold, so halfway through our meals our food was completely cold. Even though their dinner service starts at 5p, I'm sure there's kitchen staff in there ahead of time that should get some of those little ramekins of butter out of the fridge ahead of time (or at least put under the warming lamp for a little bit before serving), and put some serving plates under the heat lamp or in a warming drawer. Perhaps they normally do this and on our night there someone forgot. Either way, it out a cold damper on what we hoped would be nice dinner out. read more

I'm giving this 3 stars only because the staff is always friendly and accommodating, but I've been coming here for over three years now and the food just is lacking. First I ordered something as simple as eggs over medium for breakfast. I had to return them several times as they just couldn't get it right... The whites were runny, which is why I order over medium. For dinner, I ordered a Caesar salad, and instead of chopped or shredded lettuce, they plated a whole head of lettuce sprinkled with some shaved Parmesan and what look like small pieces of toast. If I wanted a whole head of lettuce for dinner, I could have brought one from Trader Joe's. The rest of the food in my opinion is just lackluster. For a supposedly award-winning kitchen, there's no finesse in anything they do, and often the meals are hit or miss. My medium rare burger was overdone, I've had soggy fish with my fish and chips, and I think for the time being, I'm done eating here. I ordered the chai apple tart for dessert, and that too was just boring. ironically, everything sounds good on the menu. But when it gets to you, it's just not what you envisioned. It's a shame because the hotel is nice, the surroundings and scenery are beautiful, and again the staff is always welcoming and friendly. I hope the food staff gets their act together, or considers upgrading their food service. Lastly, on one night I ordered room service, and I asked if they could put my food on a real plate with real utensils, and they said they do not do that. I travel a lot and a number of hotels will give you the option. Unfortunately, Skamania does not. It's not a dealbreaker, but for the prices, it feels like drive-through eating, just my opinion. read more

So many things went wrong. We stayed at Skamania Lodge and attended a conference with hundreds of people you would think that the restaurant would be prepared for an event of this size as people are hungry. On day one, The restaurant service was poor and there seemed to be a lot of miscommunication between staff, they could not accommodate reservations And ran out of seating. When we finally did get our reservation accommodated, they had ran out of food. So we ended up leaving and going somewhere else for breakfast. On day two, we tried it again and experienced the same thing. So we actually never ate in the restaurant, however, you can call their order to go number and they will bring you your food if you are on site in the lounge or in your room which is a nice option to have, though you might be waiting a while. I did use it once and ordered coffee on my second morning. read more

It's not a bad place to eat if you are staying at the lodge, the food was good overall and while we did not fall in love with any dish, we didn't hate anything either. We had Brussels sprouts, Ravioli, chowder and soup of the day. The views from this place are great especially if you sit during the day. We were staying at the hotel so decided to eat there. Big mistake. Our waitress was horrible from the get go. I asked about how their mocktails tasted...she said soapy? What. We ordered house salad minus a few things, she took everything off. We were seating near not one but two tables of 20 plus people. Obviously part of a corporate retreat. It was so loud we could not hear each other talk. Then our dinner took forever. Others were getting their food but not us. It took an hour and 15 minutes for the food to arrive. Our waitress was full of excuses. Luckily the manager stepped in and comped our meal. The food was just OK. Believe it or not we ate breakfast there the next morning. Had a lovely waitress and a decent meal. But again loud, screaming toddler, and the food was cold. My entire experience was not very good definitely not going back. read more

We went for dinner & our experience was pretty good, not the most amazing food wise, but our server was excellent. The check in desk is chaos..reservations are needed & there's still waiting time so everyone waits for tables & the two staff at the desk scrambled to work through who goes where, etc. For the meal, I am pescatarian so I had the limited option of gnocchi on the menu, & I also chose the Caesar salad to share with my kids. We loved the salad, it was done well. My gnocchi dish was far from what I expected but I enjoyed that & it had great flavor. A little rich between the gnocchi and the sauce that was more like a dip, but good. My husband ordered the prime rib rare and he enjoyed it, practically licking the plate clean. We don't complain so when our server noticed the steak wasn't rare as it was ordered, we appreciated her eye and offer to take it back. It wasn't necessary so he ate it as is, it's just nice to note that your server will take care of you here. Another little mishap happened with dessert...it hadn't come until around 30 minutes. Without even saying anything, again our server commented on it and took it off the bill which was more than appreciated. We felt bad for all that she was noticing and how busy she was. Clearly working against some issues coming out of the kitchen.. One thing I found difficult was finding a meal for our 12 year old..he's too old to order from the kids menu, but he also doesn't need a $40 plate of chicken off the adult menu. I would suggest that they modify their menu in the future so there is a wider variety of options to choose from. The chowder he chose was $11 and we only found out when it was ordered that it was only a "cup" size..not a lot of info is given for each item on the menu until your server explains it. We got sat at the window and it was stunning. I think they have some organizational issues to work through to bring it up to the expectations of the menu prices..but overall it was a pretty good dinner. read more

We really wanted to like it, in fact, the ambiance was gorgeous- got a window table with a view. Food was good and bad. The good - steelhead chowder, and steelhead entree. The bad - short rib, quite fatty and caused food poisoning. Service started out great, but quickly fell apart...no offer of a second glass of wine until after the entrée, and the check took a long time to get. Really long. Ugh! So much potential. read more

The food is good, the decor is great and the scenery is awesome. The reason for the 3 of 5 star review is due to the lack of details on the menu and the silly, expensive pricing. For example, we ordered a "Shareable" - which strongly implies by the name that it is an appetizer that you, oh, I don't know... share? We ordered the Scallops shareable which was very expensive and were all looking forward to enjoying them. When they arrived there were 2 medium sized scallops. Yes, you read that correct: 2 as in 1+1 = 2. And the Scallops were medium sized and on a giant pile of greens. NEVER again! The menu did not indicate that this "shareable" was not intended to be a "shareable". For the price, there should have been 4-6 large scallops, easily. This ruined my Mothers 80th birthday and she was upset the whole evening - which could have been avoided if the menu indicated: two medium scallops on top of blah, blah, blah.... Otherwise, the service was wonderful. read more

Man this place has gone downhill. They used to have the best Sunday brunch buffet. Now it's just pathetic. I remember coming to this place and getting crab legs, bottomless mimosa, and an amazing omelette bar. That apparently is only on "special occasions", even though we were there for father's day. So my wife ordered eggs Benedict after seeing how stripped down the buff was. They couldn't even poach an egg right. It was basically hard boiled. To top it all off the bar/brew pub doesn't open until 2pm now. I don't know who is making the decisions over there but they have ruined this place for me. Our waitress was great though. Honestly I don't know how they get away with charging so much money for such average tasting food. Over the course of a weekend my husband and I stayed at the lodge so we had three meals here (finally just went down to Stevenson to get better food for less). Our meals consisted of chili, a burger, fish and chips, pulled pork sandwich, "chefs special" prime rib and steal head. Everything was under seasoned, under salted and over cooked and the portion sizes for the prime rib and the steal head (the most expensive meals) were scanty. Unfortunately, we weren't alone in our tastes. We heard at least 3 other people talk about their unenthusiastic experience with their meals here. read more

Great views of the Columbia & mountains. We enjoyed a Window table. The menu has something for everyone. Pizza & burgers& more. A local Steelhead. a hanger steak,& short ribs. Lots of other tasty sounding dishes, and appetizers. I wanted the crispy brussell sprouts, with gochujang, pepperdews,cashews & bacon. Yum. However- hubby not interested. Each entree I saw looked amazing. We started with a Caesar salad. Split. Even split it was plenty for each of us. Tasty dressing and croutons. There was a steelhead chowder that sounded good. We can't eat so much. We decided to have the special, a delicious prime rib. It was a 10oz cut. Cooked to our liking. Served with au jus & a good horsey sauce. The entree came with delicious mashed potatoes. Smooth,creamy, a hint of herbs. Grilled asparagus topped it off perfectly. We enjoyed dessert room service later in the evening. When we checked in at 730 pm, they told us they needed another 10 to 15 minutes as it was busy. I asked them to text me when the table was ready - at 750 pm we did not get a text - went back to the front desk and they told us we were 3rd in line (at least one group in front of us did NOT make reservations). This is more of a 3.5-star review. Just a few tweaks would easily bump the rating to 5. The negatives first: The bright lighting in this area is diner-like. The restaurant would benefit from a softer, more romantic lighting option. Just my humble opinion. The prime rib my husband ordered arrived at a medium to medium-well temperature even though he requested medium rare. The main entree menu does not include a poultry option. Not a big deal, but had our daughter been with us, we would have been hard-pressed to find a menu option she'd like. The positives; Our server, Dustin, was stellar...friendly, knowledgeable about the wines and food options, and attentive without being overbearing. The skillet mushroom starter with rogue blue cheese and thyme is delicious. The prawns and grits...I'd order just a side of grits if I could. Decadent and creamy. Yum. The menu offers several gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegetarian options. The view from the dining area is spectacular. Such a pleasant experience. Brought some out of town visitors over to Skamania Lodge to hear Mo Dickson, a local singer songwriter. Not disappointed. Our guests had two Wirehaired Griffins - Trish Dickson, SL Staff, was so welcoming and accommodating. Of course we couldn't have the dogs on the dining side of the patio, but she got us set up close to the stage and even brought us biscuits and waterbowls for the dogs. Ordered a simple Ceasar salad to go. With a glass of Pinos Gris it couldn't have been more perfect looking out to the Columbia and listening to good music. Mo Dickson was fabulous and played his guitar and Ukulele. Entertained and Engaged the crowd, including our friends. This is what good memories are made of. Thank you Skamania Lodge! read more

My previous outstanding meal here was 20 years ago, and when the waiter said the menu was brand new that night, I wondered how different it would be. Not to worry-my mushroom risotto was perfectly prepared, and my husband's lamb special was exactly the way he wanted it. The view, quiet atmosphere and service were as 5 star as I remembered. The Cascae Room is the premier dining room of the Skamania Lodge resort. The space is huge, brite and airy. The service is exceptional. The food is excellent. I would have given my experience here a 5 star rating, except for the excessive noise of the venue. everything else was wonderful. The service especially was attentive, friendly and personal. My wife had the goat cheese salad (great!) and the mushroom risotto (sublime). I had the lamb chops with grilled asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes (wonderful). We topped it off with the peach cobbler a la mode (hot, crisply topped and delicious!). They offer a full bar and a small, but reasonably priced wine list, which features several excellent local wines. We had the Maryhill Sangiovesse and it was great. read more

I've been going here for over 20 years and have always loved it. Over this time the food has been good to terrific. This year, I found the food very disappointing. From poor descriptions on the menu, odd flavor combinations, a caesar salad with no garlic to lukewarm and cold food in the buffet. I sure hope next year is better. We have taken visiting professors and board members and family to the Sunday brunch many, many times, and every time everything has been excellent. I love the omlets, my wife loves the lobster and prime rib, and every time everything has been cooked to perfection. And you can't beat the setting. read more
