We're back! 2 weeks later than my last review because the Gorge, Brandy our gracious and loving server, dining tent deck view/ambiance, FOOD and "gluttony memory" called us back! An epic Breakfast menu for foodies and standard fair breakfast/brunch lovers is new and ON at Clark & Lewie's - designed and prepared by Brandy's husband and chef Tony! A "first" review challenge for me: How to write in "groans and sighs." Because words just won't accurately communicate the sophisticated, savory flavors, texture and clear love of food like we experienced. Crepes. Yes crepes! They offer two varieties that I couldn't choose from, so they offered one of each! The first is bacon, cheese and egg, and the second with ham/cheese and raspberry jam? The first bite - oooooohhhh - the texture that hits your mouth says "do I have your FULL attention?". And the first auditory responses are moans, groans and a few unsavory expletives....for which you quickly apologize to your dining partner. And your eyes lock on your food and fork - and then partner - with some serious "affection." Holy crap! Then the biscuits and gravy...equally not your standard fair with ample extra creamy servings of love and satiation. We also had to try an extra side of their potatoes obrian which are also not you standard fair and clearly trying to hold its own as a lead entre vs side. Moist, savory and incredible dipped in the gravy:) And then the bloody Mary's! Please note in the pictures the massive thick piece of bacon, that they cook in the oven with cayanne and brown sugar! And ALL of this backed by a scenic Columbia riverside view with its sleepy, eerie and calming mountain peaks, clouds and shimmering light. I must again reference our (local) server Brandy, and her incredible multi-talented husband Tony- they are the heart behind your entire dining experience. Brandy's piercing blue eyes radiate her love of what she does and her life with her large family here in the gorge. Richness in every level that pleases all your senses and soul. Oh! And with a bag full of breakfast leftovers, we ordered a full serving of their famous beef and elk stroganoff to take home as well!:) We'll be back! read more

I came here to see one of the best bands in the PNW play, and that was absolutely the best part of the visit. Clark and Lewie's is a surprisingly great place to see a show, so long as the weather cooperates. The bands play outdoors against a stunningly scenic backdrop. There are also several chairs and places to sit. Immediately across the street is a large parking lot, which is extremely appreciated. Staff is very helpful, enthusiastic, and friendly. The food is just passable. Nothing is notably good, but nothing was heinously bad. I'd not recommend this as a dining destination, but if you want to enjoy a beverage or two by a scenic river, Clark and Lewie's fits the bill. read more

Samantha's husband trimmed a tree branch allowing us to have an amazing view of the Columbia River! Andrea and her kitchen staff prepared the most amazing Elk & Bison Meatloaf, Salmon, Garlic Mashed Potatoes! The Staff were amazing, attentive and helped to facilitate our magical day! We went in the other night for dinner. We ended up having a rather large crowd, yet our server handled it in stride. She was great. She took multiple orders for multiple tables with no problems. The kitchen also did a good job they cranked out food super quick and the food was good and hot. I know as far as our table they prepared everything perfectly and quickly. We had the Wild smoked salmon chowder. I know as far lot of people expect a chowder to be super thick, I enjoyed this version. It did need a touch of salt and pepper but once that was added the flavors really came thru. We also split a house salad and we added Wild smoked salmon to it and had the raspberry vinaigrette. The one negative is they give a small cup of dressing and it needed more. We also had a Reuben with fries. The fries were cooked perfectly and the sandwich was prepared well. Another person in our party ordered the fish and chips and she really enjoyed that, the last order was the chicken strip and fries and those were prepared perfectly and the portions were very generous. The view is beautiful, then when the paddle boat pulls up you get another nice shot. The design of this place is really nice and well thought out it blends perfectly with the town and the whole area. It's a nice ending to the day and the service was great. So if you are nearby definitely give them a try. read more

The Wife happened across this place with the Tax Deduction on a Gorge Road Trip. It took a few months to get back out to Stevenson, which is far too long because it is a cool town. This riverfront pub/restaurant is off the highway, but it is worth searching out. I am not a drinker, but the Wife says that the beers are legit. The menu is diverse, but I saw what I wanted right away, the fish & chips. Little places like this sometimes have the best fish & chips. The Wife had the Salmon Wrap. The inside space is on the small side, but if the weather cooperates there is a vast deck space to sit and enjoy the rare sunny days. One thing we liked was that dogs are welcome. Service was good, the bathrooms were clean, parking was plentiful, and the atmosphere was a cool vibe. The fish & chips were very good. Best ever? Probably not, but when I do return, I will order them again. The Salmon Wrap was very good, very fresh and bright. This is a restaurant worth your time and money. read more

Yea, it looks like an unassuming shack down by some railroad tracks, but then you step out onto the back patio and are hit with that awesome view of the Columbia River Gorge. Sure you could eat inside in the narrow dining area but that would be missing the point. Nothing fancy here - the patio is covered with canvas, with giant windows overlooking the River, and the solid menu consists mostly of burgers sandwiches salads and some seafood dishes. I ordered the salmon slider from the starter section; it came as a nice thick piece of fish wedged into a brioche bun, cooked to have a little char... really delish. Should've ordered two. Tap list has a nice selection of local brews, and there's usually a signature cocktail or two. I've found the service can be uneven, but they always make it right, and they'll always make you smile. Lovely down to earth folks here. Occasionally a crazy long freight train will thunder by right out front, which only adds to the charm of the place. Pro tip; if you wanna walk off that elk burger and IPA, there's a sweet little path just below the restaurant, on the river side. read more

We were staying at the Skamania Lodge celebrating my best friends 50th. We wanted to try a spot close in town. So we decided to go here. Service was amazing. Got a free birthday drink for my best friend. Chowder was weird they put salad in it and the taste was off and texture. Sliders were cold. Mac and Cheese a bit dry. We liked the location and the service. We'll give it a try during the day and order different menu items. I won't give up yet, I'll be back to try again!!!! read more

I've been coming to this restaurant for 15 years about two years ago. 2yr ago a friend and I made the mistake of going there for lunch; Rotten food and the worst service in the PNW. I had severe concerns concerning my salmon. I used to be a certified salmon inspector in Alaska for a college job. I know my salmon. The salmon we were served with rotten. My friend did not mind because she was so hungry, but I wouldn't eat . I brought up the food issue to the manager, she was unprofessional and evil. She told us not to come back. Hmm, so the next year I went back in alone thinking there's no way the owners kept that horrific manager. I Walked in for a table and was met by the same nasty piece of work. The place was packed and the manager yelled at me in front of everybody to leave! I left with my head high knowing I would not get food poisoning that day. Wow, Who gets double barred from a family restaurant who complained about rotten food once? How on earth does this place stay in business? Oh, stupid unknowing tourists on the riverboat. I bet they love getting food poisoning after they get back on their boat. read more

Soooo... been seeing some criticism about the Fish & Chips.. ummm. Some of you need to be checked. It's a small boutique restaurant. Quality over quantity. When you have multiple tables & get 12 orders at the same time & can only cook 2 orders at a time. ... it takes a bit to get them served. Small batches. They are hand dipped. Delicious. Be patient. Order another beverage. Enjoy the journey. My only gripe is the hours. But I know first hand how hard it is to keep staffed when the rent for a studio here is $1,600. This place was great, we went there in the middle of the afternoon, the server was INCREDIBLY nice. the food was pretty good, The sweet potato fries tasted great. We sat near the ocean in a room of glass, the view was great and they had a nice selection of drinks such as soda and beer. Spices were good and we had possibly the most AMAZING DESSERT that has ever been, cookie, ice cream, caramel, choco syrup. We had the chili and something that was like a French dip? We didn't finish either. Love the vibe!!! And the view....doesn't get much better. We popped into Stevenson while staying nearby. We were checking out the riverfront and this little place caught our eye. We walked in on a Thursday evening, around 6, and it was pretty packed. We got a spot on the deck to enjoy the views & hang out. Loved the staff, there were a couple of young ladies running the show, full of life & energy. We tried the Palomas on the cocktail menu. It's one of my favs and this did not disappoint. Very refreshing on a hot summer day! We had appetizers only, but boy were we full. The hummus appetizer had tons of fresh veggies, olives, super squishy pita and some pepperoncini's that had a kick. The chicken wings (ordered sauce on the side) were good, pretty standard as far as wings go. The vibe was fun! Good music playing. You could hear one of the staff singing inside on occasion (which we enjoyed), the view of the river topped it all off. Lots of good times happening here!!! I can attest to that! read more

Busy and packed with a folk band on the patio on a Saturday. Good no problem we will wait for a table. Oh wait, server 1 says we have two barstools. OK! Sounds good. Moments later, server 1 says we have a table for you on the patio. Ok even better. We head out there but there are no tables at all and our barstools were grabbed up right away. Awkward! So now we are standing on the dining patio looking confused. Two different couples graciously offer for us to share and we ended up moving some tables around. Ok. Oh by the way it's my husband's birthday and he likes this place. So here we are. Server 2 comes, apologizes for the mixup, she's super frazzled and on mental overload, doing her best. We finally order drinks and already know what we are having. Birthday boy wants the tacos special that is on the chalk board/sandwich board by the door. Sorry, they don't have those. Ok. He'll have the salmon tacos and a beer. I ask for a Bloody Mary and a chicken Caesar salad. "What kind of dressing would you like on your salad?" Gosh I shoulda ordered something else right then! it was the worst ceasar I've ever had. Lettuce was dry, not cold, rusting at the edges and some occasional nearly rotted leaves. Not tossed, dressing just poured on top. Flavorless croutons, chicken was on par with some kind of pre cooked and pre seasoned chicken you might get in a bag at the grocery store. You can get a better ceasar at the Costco food court or in a bag from Safeway. I ate about half. My husband would have ordered another beer, had considered ordering more food since he only ate salmon tacos and I'd still have considered the desert menu since it's his birthday. I'd have had another cocktail as well. But our server brought our check soon after bringing our food, never checked for second drinks or desert. It was just like ok, guess she's done with our @ssses! She was trying!! But it all created a very awkward and disappointing experience combined with the sub par food. I'd still stop in for a drink sometime but this place is just not it for me, for a quality dinner. I thought when this place opened the menu was elevated and really good but it's bar food at best. The place was okay and service was adequate - but the food was either mediocre or actually disgusting - the bison burger was okay but nothing special - but the salmon wrap was so gross - so fishy - definitely not smoked salmon - it actually tasted like pink salmon you can get from a can - mixed with way too much mayonnaise - I was hungry and couldn't even finish half after trying to drown in it bbq sauce. read more

My deepest apologies to the staff at the restaurant for posting this so late!!! I was at this restaurant in September 2024. While the food was good, it was an extremely hot day and there was NO air conditioning. Also, the back seating area, while having a fan, was no cooler. I criticize the owners for having NO air conditioner for, not only the customers and waitresses on the first floor, but none for the poor cooks in the kitchen DOWNSTAIRS????!!!! Are you MAD???? Ordered the elk/hamburger stuffed jalapeños poppers for $16.00. Presentation was nice but taste was bland and cold. We asked if the poppers were microwaved as it was clearly not fresh. We were informed they were made on Thursday and then heated up on a grill. We visited the place on Saturday and item did not have any grill marks. Gave the rating a 2 star as location is great but menu item ordered did not seem to have any pride in ensuring freshness especially for the cost. read more

Great little spot right on the Columbia River in an old building they've been improving (forgot to snap a pic of the canvas-roofed waterfront deck in progress). Great views of the river to watch the windsurfing and kiteboarding action. As it was a travel day on my own, I just ordered the fish and chips (no cocktail, dessert, etc.). Absolutely perfect basket of battered fish, fries and coleslaw, with a garnish of lemon slices. Portland brand catsup and malt vinegar already on the table. Coleslaw was housemade with flavorful dressing, albeit a tad too saucy. Service was prompt and friendly. I'll be back for a bigger meal (with others) next time I'm near the Columbia Gorge. read more

Decided to cross over the Bridge of the Gods to find a lunch spot in Washington and happened upon this charming place. Cute little bar with a great outside sheltered and covered deck to enjoy the awesome scenery. They have heaters and blankets to keep you warm. Friendly service and a nice craft beer selection. The menu is standard pub fare. We were happy starting with the hot pretzel followed by the fish and chips. Ended with the lava cake which was ooey gooey yummy. read more

Lunch time in the middle of the week, we were seated in the back overlooking the river, great way to start the meal. We order the Fish an chips (cod), Hamburger, local Zeppelin amber and a Lewis and Clark mule. Fish was cooked to perfection, fries same. Burger was cooked medium as requested and it was great. Zeppelin was a very good amber and the she enjoyed the cocktail. Recommended dining when in Stevenson. read more

We were quoted a 30 minute wait time and it took about an hour and fifteen minutes to seat us. We called an hour prior to our visit. We had a party of 8. The staff acted put out when we began checking in with them after an hour. I asked the host to order an appetizer but she said I had to ask the bartender. The bartender was not at the bar. She made no effort from there. When we were seated the food was okay and the service was much better. My father and my brother in law had the fish and chips but they were overcooked and pretty black. My steelhead wrap was excellent and a large portion. The charcuterie board we ordered as an appetizer had very tasty cheese but could've had more meat on it. No other restaurant in recent memory has garnered as esteemed a place among our list of favorites as Clark and Lewie's. In my previous review, during our first visit, I raved about the Bloody Mary having ruined all others, and a year later, that reputation still stands. No one else has come close. Since then, we've returned at least three times, and each experience has only compounded the good things we have to say about this place. Perhaps it's due to Clark and Lewie's somewhat unique use of two of my favorite carnivorous choices, buffalo and elk, but those choices alone aren't what make it stellar. No, they are just components to be used, pieces of a much larger puzzle. Whoever came up with their menu is an absolute genius, who knows how to pair rustic ingredients and pair them with flavors that enhance and embellish the experience in subtle, yet superior ways. The Bloody Mary is another perfect example of their synergistic superiority: easy to make on paper, bog standard at so many other places, but here, it is elevated to almost an art form. I really can't rave about it much more, because I honestly don't understand what makes it special. It's not the garnishes (although they're fantastic, and that bacon is perfectly thick, crunch and lean every time). It must be the vodka, or the mix, or just a symphonious combination of the two. Just...just order it, for God's sake. You'll see what I mean. Over the course of our visits, I've never repeat ordered anything (sans Bloody Mary), which is *unheard of* for me, as I usually gravitate to one or two things on any menu, at any location. Not here. There's just too many awesome choices. We've had the Bison Burger, Elk Burger, French Dip, Beet Salad, and an assortment of appetizers and starters, including the charcuterie board, hummus platter, sliders, Sgt. Floyd's meatballs and Lewie's Poppers. My wife, who is pretty much a strict pescatarian, has torn into each of them as ravenously as I have, each time. There are few testimonials better than that! And the crazy part is, I've seen other people order the fish and chips each time, looked upon them longingly, and yet somehow haven't chewed through the rest of the inviting menu choices and ordered them. Something always jumps out at me and cuts them off, which mean I am going to have to make a special trip out here just to satisfy my curiosity, because they look *phenomenal*, and if everything else on the menu is any indicator, they're likely to jump to the top of my favorites list. Man, my stomach is rumbling just thinking about them. OK, this has been a wordy review, so I am going to cut to the chase: just come here! Sit on the patio, order the Bloody Mary, then blindfold yourself and throw a dart at the menu, because I guarantee that whatever arrives on a plate in front of you is going to make you happy. You can thank me when you do; we'll probably be sitting at a table next to you. read more
